The Album “Rise” consists of 10 songs:
Another Side of Home – No Reason To Feel Good – Crazy If You Let It – I Can’t Talk About It Now – Let Them Go – Where The Water Meets The Sky = Rise – Another Swing Another Miss – You Make Me Whole – Ships
Andrea Zonn is extremely talented and puts her all in being a Recording Artist, Song Writer and Violinist. She has completely different styles of music in this second album “Rise” and is very fluent with these musical genres. It has a touch of folk, Celtic, jazz and country music in it and it works pretty well. She also has a great ability to adapt her voice to sing brilliantly in any genre and get you emotionally attached to the songs. The lyrics have moved me like no other. Ms. Zonn wrote the songs herself in collaboration with some of the finer songwriters of all time like Peter Cooper, Kim Richey, Thom Jutz and Bill Lloyd. They are encouraging and inspiring listeners to be hopeful. Melodies are uplifting and beautiful. These are the type of songs that put a smile on your face no matter how you feel. The musicians played beautifully. To hear her play the violin and to listen to country star Trace Adkins’ bass is a pleasure in music. Andrea Zonn’s voice gives my ears a treat.
“Rise”, the title track is a moving and inspiring collection of songs and it’s deeply personal. Challenging moments get us down sometimes and making it through the hard times in life is not always as easy as clichés make it sound. The sky gets dark, the wind picks up and fear sets in. It tells about finding a safe place where you can face what you’re dealing with head-on, rise above the storms in life and keeping the faith intact. The album “Rise” will take you on a journey through music. Andrea sings, “I keep spinning with the seasons. I keep singing ‘bout the good old days. I don’t need any reason, don’t need no reason to feel good.” It tells how her life is unfolding. “Crazy If You Let It” tells about going through tough times and facing two choices, whether to shroud oneself or move forward with joy. Life has its ups and downs and when the going gets tough, we need one another. “I Can’t Talk About It Now” gives the wisdom of the importance of our presence and the way to love our family and friends through tough times. Sitting with them, listening and not rushing them through their pain can really help. Bottom line is to love them selflessly and support them unconditionally. In the song “Rise”, Andrea continues to sing, “Child, don’t you worry, it’s out of your hands. We all have trials we’re not meant to understand. Still we rise, rise, rise.” It’s so beautiful how Andrea Zonn puts her soul in her singing. Her entire album has an amazing and inspiring message of having the faith in dealing and rising above the storms of life and living victoriously. She knows how to take you into an adventure with her music. Andrea Zoon is supported by famous guests like James Taylor, Vince Gill, Keb’ Mo’, Mac McAnally and Trace Adkins in this album. Her music is indeed worthy of close attention.

LEON RUSSELL'S WIFE RELEASES STATEMENT ON PASSING OF ROCK AND ROLL LEGENDNASHVILLE, Tenn. (November 13, 2016) – Leon Russell, born Claude Russell Bridges, who sang, wrote and produced some of rock 'n' roll's top records, passed away Sunday, Nov. 13 at the age of 74.
Leon’s wife, Jan Bridges, released the following statement:
“We thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this very, very difficult time. My husband passed in his sleep in our Nashville home. He was recovering from heart surgery in July and looked forward to getting back on the road in January. We appreciate everyone’s love and support.”
Leon’s last performance was July 10 in Nashville.
Known as "The Master Of Space And Time," Leon was a legendary musician and songwriter who performed his gospel-infused southern boogie piano rock, blues, and country music for more than 50 years.
Leon, born in Lawton, Okla., began as a nightclub piano player in Oklahoma at the age of 14, also backing touring artists when they came to town. Jerry Lee Lewis was so impressed with Leon that he hired him and his band for two years of tours.
He wrote Joe Cocker's "Delta Lady" and in 1969 put together Cocker's "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" tour, which spawned a documentary film and a hit double album.
As a musician, primarily a pianist, he played on The Beach Boys' "California Girls" and Jan and Dean's "Surf City." Leon also played guitar and bass.
Leon has also toured with Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, Edgar Winter, The New Grass Revival, Willie Nelson, Sir Elton John and performed with George Harrison and Friends at the Concert For Bangladesh.
Leon produced and played on recording sessions for Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra, Ike and Tina Turner, the Rolling Stones and many others.
He recorded hit songs himself like "Tight Rope" and "Lady Blue" and participated in "The Concert for Bangladesh." John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison played on his first album, Leon Russell.
His concerts often ended with a rousing version of "Jumpin' Jack Flash." In 1973, Billboard listed Leon as the top concert attraction in the world. About this time, he was the headline act on billings that included Elton John and at other times Willie Nelson.
In a 1992 interview with The Associated Press, Leon said music doesn't really change much.
"It's cyclical, like fashion. You keep your old clothes and they'll be in style again sooner or later.
"There are new things, like rap. But that's a rebirth of poetry. It's brought poetry to the public consciousness."
He and Elton John released The Union, a critically received duo album in 2010.
Besides his music, Leon was known for his striking appearance: wispy white hair halfway down his back and that covered much of his face.
Leon relocated to Los Angeles in 1959, where he became known as a top musician, and later to Nashville.
In the early 2000s he began his own record label, Leon Russell Records. Leon was inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame and the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2011.

Let Me Die In A Honky Tonk
Let Me Die In A Honky Tonk - Could You Spare Me A Quarter - I Will Hitch A Ride With Joe - Jack, Johnny, Jim, Jose - Bertha - Break One-Nine - I Don't Give A Damn About A Damn Thing - Coyote Yodel - Nuthin' Honey - There's Something In Between Us - How Come They all Know? - I Don't Wanna See You No More - Happy Yodeling Man - Roughshod Records Sidekicks
This second CD from Roughshod Records is by the owner himself, Mike Johnson. Mike is well known today, and has been for a long long time, as country music's number one black yodeler. This is not something to be taken lightly, not only are there only a handful of black yodelers, if that many, there is only one that can claim the title "Country Music's Number One Black Yodeler." That is Mike Johnson. He's never given up on his gift of music. He's had some slow periods, but he has never stopped making great music. He's had some distressing times in the music world, but he's never been side-tracked. He just keeps right on writing, and he just keeps right on singing, and he just keeps right on recording his great songs. His new side-kick is a 21-year old white boy named James Adelsberger, also a Virginia music maker that knows exactly what Mike's music is all about. James is the instrumentalist that brings Mike's music to a complete flowering, that magic ingredient that includes a complete understanding of what Mike is writing, what he's saying, what he's singing, and why. What a very nice complimentary combination. Super easy to listen to and super easy to like. There's four super yodeling songs on this release, including "Coyote Yodel" which is in a class all by itself, including some terrific mandolin playing by James. Also it should be noted that Mike wrote all 14 songs on this release. Like I said, his is a very prolific writer, and he puts in a few words what many of us need books to say. Michael Romans is the only other musician on this production, performing some incredible fiddle work, especially nice on "Nothin' Honey." Mike Johnson is a very young 70 years old, and he's still doing what he loves doing best, creating and producing great 'real' country music. His story songs are some of the best I've ever heard. There's another aspect of Mike Johnson that I find very appealing. His melody lines are all his own. Sometimes songwriters have to struggle to find an original melody line that will fit what they are writing. Mike doesn't seem to have this problem. His melody lines are right down that 'real' country music road, but they are all his own. This must also make it interesting to James who is providing the music backing. Each and every song presents a new and interesting challenge. Mike Johnson won't die in a Honky Tonk, but before he does exit planet earth, he's still got a lot of things to do with music. I would hope he and James keep turning out anything and everything they can possibly do together, and just keep it coming. Every song on this CD is a keeper. I would guess Mike had a hard time with placement. The usual method is to put the strongest track in space number one. BUT, so many of Mike's songs are so strong that must have been a problem. I like them all, including "Roughshod Records SideKicks" where both artists individually take the lead on each of their releases. Super good.

My Heart Still Sees
My Heart Still Sees - Pictures On The Wall - High Lonesome - Here We Go Again - Another Lonely Night - Livin' Two Loves - Always For You - Sittin' In A Truck Stop Down IN Georgia - Face Without Name - He Wrote The Song On The Jukebox - I Don't Know Where They've Gone - Back Into The Fold
I received a couple of CD's from Roughshod Records, a Virginia based company that still produces and promotes 'real' country music. When I say 'real' country music, what am I talking about? I'm talking about the raw talent in America that has not given in to the samo-samo sound of what country music has become today. I would much rather listen to a singer or an instrumentalist or a recording artist that hasn't reached their epitome in the music world yet, especially if they are staying true to their musical calling. That's exactly the case of the two talents involved in both the CD's I am reviewing today. Mike Johnson the mover and shaker behind the record company, wrote "Roughshod Records SideKicks" to honor the investment of both talents. However Mike Johnson is also a prolific country music singer-songwriter with a huge catalog of songs to his credit. He wrote every song on this James Adelsberger release, except for a couple of co-written songs that Mike did with James. It's a remarkable listening experience because the songs are so original and so unlike country music today. On "High Lonesome" we even hear Mike Johnson doing his amazing yodeling, right in tune with what James Adelsberger is doing with the songs that he does so well with his young voice. James is the master-mind instrumentalist in this entire production. He's one of those young geniuses that can play anything, and play it well. He's also a fine vocalist that carries the song, the meaning and the beauty of it whenever he is interpreting it in his own distinctive style. Listening to him perform on guitar on "Here We Go Again" he takes us right back to a jazzy western swing country style that we just don't hear anymore. It's almost a 'twenties' sound that really stands out. There's only one other musician participating in this studio production, Michael Romans, who adds a very gifted fiddle to the mix. All in all, though it must have taken quite some time to put this production all together, it sure makes for a beautiful listening experience. I just love Jame's 'production' abilities, He uses all his musical talent to pull it together, everything from keyboard and steel guitar to some incredible acoustic guitar picking. A total package of super fine music, and I can truthfully say Mike Johnson's leadership in making all this possible keeps it right in that really fine 'real' country sound, some of it going all the way back a long long way (James even includes some fine banjo backing on "Livin' Two Loves"), and some of it keeping the 70's and 80's sound alive and well. I've heard some of Jame's previous recordings, and I'm glad to say he's getting better with everything he is doing, but he was already incredibly good when he started, so now I'm looking forward to what the future holds. Kudos to Mike Johnson for taking this young talent under his wing and producing such a remarkable listening experience.
