Charlie Daniels Reflects on Million Mile Reflections Exhibit
Charlie Daniels is the latest contemporary artist to be honored with his own exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville. Titled Million Mile Reflections, after Charlie's widely popular album of the same name, the exhibit officially opens to the public on Sept. 23. But industry insiders and members of the media got a preview of the exhibit at a special reception for Charlie at the Country Music Hall of Fame Tuesday night, Sept. 20.
The exhibit contains memorabilia and artifacts from Charlie's career and personal life. It includes archival photos, several guitars and Charlie's CMA and Grammy awards trophies, among many other items.
Before the preview, Charlie addressed the crowd gathered in the BMI Hall at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. “At the age of almost 80 years,” Charlie began, “God has chosen to bless me with yet another wonderful blessing.” He recalled moving to Nashville from his native North Carolina in the late 1960's with little money but plenty of big dreams. “I was determined that no matter what, Nashville would be the termination of my career,” he noted. “I was going to stay come hell or high water.” Charlie continued, “I was just one of the hopefuls who desperately wanted to be a part of what was going on in Music City.”
As fans know, Charlie became one of Nashville's most in-demand session musicians, playing on recordings by Bob Dylan and other stars. He embarked on a solo career and scored such hits as “Uneasy Rider,” “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” which became his signature tune, “Drinkin' My Baby Goodbye” and “Long Haired Country Boy.”
This past year, Charlie was named as one of the new members of the Country Music Hall of Fame, making this exhibit doubly sweet. Charlie made sure to to pay tribute to the Hall of Fame during his remarks at the exhibit opening.
“It's a place where country music fans from around the world can come and take a look at the artists,” Charlie said, referring to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum building. “It's a place where the past is respected and the future is excitedly anticipated.”
Fans can check out Charlie's Million Mile Reflections exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville through March 5, 2017.

(September 21, 2016) – Charlie Daniels’ co-founded non-profit, The Journey Home Project, hosted their annual dinner at The Palm Restaurant in Nashville on September 13th. The event, emceed by SiriusXM’s Storme Warren, raised over $100,000 with proceeds going to returning veterans and furthering awareness of the issues they face when they return home from serving the United States of America.

Annual Event Celebrating Daniels' 80th Birthday Sets Fundraising Record With Help From Special Guests Buck Taylor, Mark "Oz" Geist, John "Tig" Tiegen, Ryan Weaver, Marisa Wayne and More
The program included American heroes, Mark “Oz” Geist and John “Tig” Tiegen, Buck Taylor of “Tombstone” and “Gunsmoke” fame, a performance by Ryan Weaver, Marisa Wayne of the John Wayne Foundation, and the man of the hour, celebrating his 80th Birthday, Charlie Daniels. The evening included a renowned live auction, silent auction items, the Palm’s signature Surf & Turf dinner and live entertainment.
“The yearly Journey Home Project at the Palm was, at least for me, the best yet. Raised a lot of money, had a lot of fun and made a lot of friends,” said Charlie Daniels.
“Thanks to our remarkably supportive sponsors, friends and guests, we have set a fundraising record for our organization while having an entertaining and fun evening. The Journey Home Project continues to be able to serve our veterans and returning servicemen and women thanks to the continued support through events like this, Volunteer Jam and more throughout the year,” said Mercedez Longever, The Journey Home Project Board Member.
2016 has been and continues to be one of the biggest years in Charlie Daniels career. The year began with an announcement that he would be in the Country Music Hall of Fame’s class of 2016 alongside Randy Travis and Fred Foster, the Charlie Daniels’ Band played on one of country music’s biggest stages, Nissan Stadium at CMA Festival, in June and just last week, an exhibition was announced at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum featuring artifacts from Daniels life and career. To top it all off, the southern rock legend will turn 80 years old on October 28 followed by a celebration of his birthday with friends Kid Rock, Chris Stapleton, Luke Bryan, Larry the Cable Guy, Travis Tritt and more at Charlie Daniels’ 80th Birthday Volunteer Jam on November 30. Rounding out the year, Daniels’ will have played over 100 shows in just 365 days, an astounding accomplishment at any age.
About The Journey Home Project
The Journey Home Project is a not-for profit organization that assists other not-for-profits in securing funds to help causes that benefit veterans of the United States Armed Forces. The Journey Home Project was founded in 2014 by country music legend Charlie Daniels and board members: David Corlew and Joe & Mercedez Longever. Conscious of the need to assist our nation’s veterans, they have set out to partner with organizations that do the most good, with the least overhead. Working in tandem with these organizations, The Journey Home Project is making a difference in the lives of American patriots.
As a result of funds raised through Daniels' 40th Anniversary Volunteer Jam at the Bridgestone Arena last year, The Journey Home Project has been able to donate funds to help with the completion of the state-of-the-art Veterans and Military Families Center on campus at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), among various other fundraising events for veterans. This year’s Volunteer Jam on November 30 will bring Kid Rock, Chris Stapleton, Larry the Cable Guy and more to the Bridgestone Arena stage to celebrate Charlie Daniels’ 80th Birthday. Tickets to this event can be purchased here.

JASON ISBELL, CHRIS STAPLETON BIG WINNERS
AT AMERICANA MUSIC ASSOCIATION’S 15TH ANNUAL HONORS & AWARDS
Stunning Tribute to Guy Clark, Merle Haggard, Dr. Ralph Stanley and Allen Toussaint Opens
2016 Show, Which Also Featured Special Appearances by Bob Weir, Dwight Yoakam, Margo Price, Timothy B. Schmit, Shawn Colvin, Jason Isbell, George Strait And More
Two of the most talked-about roots music artists of the past year — Jason Isbell and Chris Stapleton — highlighted the eclectic mix of honorees, presenters and performers at the 15th Annual Americana Music Association Honors & Awards show Wednesday night at Nashville’s famed Ryman Auditorium.
Isbell took home two trophies, one for Album of the Year for his 2015 release “Something More Than Free” and one for Song of the Year for “24 Frames,” while Stapleton was awarded Artist of the Year honors for the overall impact made via his 2015 solo debut “Traveller.”
Isbell, now a six-time Americana Award winner, noted a key to keeping an artist grounded if success comes one’s way while accepting the Song of the Year award. “If you can, keep people around you who will tell you when you’ve done something awful, whether it’s in a song or in your personal life, and listen to them if at all possible,” Isbell said, thanking wife and fellow artist Amanda Shires as that key.
“Thank you to all the Americana radio stations out there, it’s been a big part of what we’ve been doing,” Chris Stapleton said, genuinely touched by the Artist of the Year award. “I’m nervous, there’s so many heroes out here in audience and up here on the stage, this is a remarkable thing.”
Each year, the Honors and Awards show celebrates current Americana projects, a slate of Lifetime Achievement awards, and a set of unique, unforgettable performances. Musical legends such as Grateful Dead founder Bob Weir and country music megastar George Strait graced the fabled Ryman stage alongside buzzed-about newcomers such as Margo Price, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats and The Lumineers.
Price picked up this year’s Emerging Artist of the Year, while longtime musical collaborators Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell earned Group/Duo of the Year (their second win in this category), and fiddler Sara Watkins was named Instrumentalist of the Year (the first female to win this award).
“What an extraordinary event!” said Jed Hilly, executive director of the Americana Music Association. “Once again, the Americana community raises the bar of integrity and excellence. It’s such an honor to be in the room with talent of that level.”
Lifetime Achievement Awards went to Shawn Colvin (Trailblazer), William Bell (Songwriting), Bob Weir (Performance), Jim Lauderdale (WagonMaster), Woody Guthrie (President’s Award), and Billy Bragg (Spirit of Americana/Free Speech In Music, co-presented by the First Amendment Center) with the posthumous President’s Award Presented In Honor of Woody Guthrie to Lucinda Williams on behalf of the family.
Bob Weir, who helped open the show playing the Merle Haggard classic “Mama Tried,” part of the tribute to recently departed musical giants including Haggard, Allen Toussaint, Ralph Stanley and Guy Clark, took note of the synthesis of musical traditions that shaped not only his own experience, but encapsulates modern-day American roots music.
“You take musical traditions from England, Ireland, Scotland, Spain a little bit, a little bit from France, and blend them together with a rich variety of African musical traditions, and stir it up,” Weir said. “You let it simmer for 200 or 300 years and see what happens. This could only happen in a new land. Physically, culturally, and spiritually. That place was and is America. It could only have happened here.”
For the 14th consecutive year, Jim Lauderdale hosted the awards show Emmylou Harris calls “the shining star of Nashville and music everywhere” while multi-faceted producer/songwriter/performer Buddy Miller assembled an all-star band to contribute to the night’s amazing music, this year featuring Dave Cobb, Stuart Duncan, Fred Eltringham, Steve Fishell, Matt Rollings, Chris Wood and The McCrary Sisters.
