CD Review: PAUL EVANS - Steelin' From The Heart

Steelin' From The Heart
Bars of Steel - Will The Circle Be Unbroken - Faded Love - Harbour Lights - How Great Thou Art - I Love You Because - Last Date -Life's Railway To Heaven - Sunday In Dixie - Steel Guitar Rag
This Ontario, Canadian, steel player is way way up there.  Not just 'north' up there, I mean way up there in his ability to play a really really neat steel.  He plays a special Fulawaka steel guitar, and according to Paul, "I have never played a steel with such smooth action and the sound is awesome."  Yes, I have to agree, the sound is awesome.  What is also awesome is the selection of material Paul picked for this very nice album project.  Paul has been playing the steel for well over forty years, and it is definitely apparent in how well this album came together.  His father was an evangelist, preaching the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.  According to Paul "He was a wonderful man and had a love for souls.  I promised dad that when I learned how to play the steel, and I sure hope that I know how after 40 years, that I would record an album for the Lord's work."  Paul certainly has done that with the songs "How Great Thou Art" and "Life's Railway To Heaven."  Steel guitar has been Paul's first love, and it shines through on everything he is doing with music.  I find some nuances in his playing that I've not heard before in steel playing, and I believe that comes from individual musical gift and how it is processed and passed along, which Paul does really well.  I'm sending this off to the Rural Roots Music Commission although it is early in the transpiring time frame of doing that. Not sure Paul would want to come to our annual Rural Music Gathering in Fremont, Nebraska, where those kind of awards are made, but I sure have my fingers crossed.

CD Review: MICHAEL T. WALL - The Singing Newfoundlander

The Singing Newfoundlander
Introduction - Hibbs - The  Singing Newfoundlander - The Heritage - Folks of Newfoundland - Island of Newfoundland - Squidd Jiggin' Ground - Shake My Hand I'm From Newfoundland - Tribute to Cornerbrook - The Man In The Moon Is A Newfie - Come Home Newfoundland - Wearing of the Map - Discovery of Newfoundland 1497 - Old to Newfoundland
Michael T. Wall was the recipient of a "Living Legend" award at the 41st National Old Time Country Music Festival in LeMars, Iowa, in 2016.  This well deserved award is made by the National Traditional Country Music Association, and awarded it to Mr. Wall for his unswerving dedication to his homeland of Newfoundland, as well as his undying devotion to doing country music in a 'country' way.  What's very interesting about this fine CD is the incorporation of an older style of music coming from that part of planet earth.  Incredibly gifted instrumentalists gather behind Michael T. as he presents his original music, written as a historical as well as an entertaining point of view, the history lessons land well on eager ears.  Well recorded and certainly well written and produced, is a 'gem' among gems in the country music world of planet earth.  Michael T. has been gaining considerable attention and fan base in the country of Australia, where he is now a regular traveler and performer.   He's definitely not ashamed of being from a 'farm' base, he lauds the country life in nearly every song he has written for this very well done 'travel' musical adventure.  He doesn't phase out the traditional sounds either.  The accordion plays a very prominent part in this entire presentation.  Obviously a very necessary instrument to the legendary music of Newfoundland, the player here (not identified) is exceptionally good.  He lends the instrument as a very well founded part of the original 'story' song Michael T is telling in song.  He not only does this with song and music he does it with advertising brochures he carries with him at all times, encouraging the reader to take notice of the wonderful opportunities existing as a visitor to this beautiful land.  The "Living Legend" award Michael T received from the NTCMA is not his first award by any means.  It's a life-long dedication this Newfoundlander has simmering in his soul, no matter where he goes, no matter what he does, no matter what he is doing.  More power to this great promoter, surely the only one of his kind from his homeland.  Where else...Newfoundland.

Justin Moore

William Michael Morgan, Brett Young Round Out Lineup
as Direct Support

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (September 20, 2016) – Lee Brice and Justin Moore, two of country music’s most dynamic performers, will ring in 2017 with their co-headlined “American Made” tour kicking off January 12 in Indianapolis at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse. William Michael Morgan and Brett Young round out the tour as direct support. (Morgan and Young’s specific markets are noted in the tour schedule below.)

Moore released his fourth album ‘Kinda Don’t Care’ — his third #1 debut on the Country charts — in August. The lead single from the album, the Top-5 and-rising “You Look Like I Need a Drink,” lines up right alongside his chart-topping Platinum and Gold-certified hits “Small Town USA,” “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away,” “Point at You” and “Lettin’ The Night Roll.” This also follows two Gold-certified albums ‘Justin Moore’ and ‘Outlaws Like Me.’ He debuted music from his new album last month with a live performance during the Fox & Friends’ All-American Summer Concert Series.

Lee Brice is a multiple ACM and CMA award winner with a GRAMMY nomination, six RIAA platinum singles – and more than 10 Million singles sold —under his belt. The “melodically eloquent” (New York Times) power vocalist, songwriter and producer has celebrated five #1s including “I Drive Your Truck” and “Drinking Class” and was most recently honored by the RIAA during a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden for the platinum certification of his #1 radio single, “I Don’t Dance.” He quickly followed that career milestone with performances on NBC’s “The Voice,” “Today” and ABC’s “The Bachelor Live.”

“It's very exciting to get back out there as a headliner,” Justin says. “To be able to do it with my buddy Lee is even more exciting. I've been a fan of his for a long time. It's gonna definitely be a party every night. I hope the fans are as jacked up about it as we are.”

“When we put this tour together we thought about the fans first,” says Lee who kicked off 2016 with his own headlining “Life Off My Years” tour after being the only country artist in 2015 to perform in all 50 states. “I love playing live but what’s even more fun is interacting with the amazing people in the audience. That’s what it’s all about. I can’t wait to get out there to play the songs everyone already knows but we’re also planning to give these audiences a sneak peek into a few songs off the new record!”

About Justin Moore:
Justin Moore’s long-awaited fourth studio ‘Kinda Don’t Care’ was released in August and earned the singer his third consecutive #1 album debut. It features his current Top 5-and-rising single “You Look Like I Need a Drink.” The project is chock-full of new music with 16 tracks on the deluxe version which shot to #1 on the iTunes Country and Billboard Country Albums charts upon release. The Arkansas native spent three years putting the project together, which serves as a follow up to his second #1 album release, Off The Beaten Path.

Moore holds five #1 singles under his signature white cowboy hat including “Point At You,” “Lettin’ The Night Roll” and the Platinum-certified “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away.” He has seven Top 10 hits and sold almost 8 million tracks to date.

The Valory Music Co. recording artist has earned multiple ACM, ACA and ACC Awards nominations including being named the 2014 ACM New Artist of the Year. USA Today has exclaimed, “he has come to represent the best of a new generation in country music.”

This is Moore’s third headlining tour having sold out dates across the country previously for his Outlaws Like Me and Off The Beaten Path tour stops. Describing his electrifying live show, Billboard said “Fans literally started screaming for the Arkansas native from the beginning notes of “Till My Last Day” and continued all the way through his hit-filled set…”

He has shared the stage with Brad Paisley, Miranda Lambert, Hank Williams Jr, Blake Shelton, Eric Church and is currently on the road with Brantley Gilbert once again for the Take It Outside tour.

About Lee Brice:
With his latest album, ‘I Don’t Dance,’ (9.14) Lee has scored two Billboard Country #1 smashes. “I Don’t Dance” and “Drinking Class,” with “That Don’t Sound Like You” earning a Top 10 chart position.

As “one of the finest singer-songwriters country music has to offer” (USA Today), Lee has written songs for artists including Garth Brooks' “More Than a Memory,” Tim McGraw's “Still,” the Eli Young Band's “Crazy Girl.”

Lee Brice released his debut album, ‘Love Like Crazy,’ in 2009. The title track reached #3 on the Billboard Country chart and set a record as the longest-charting song in that chart’s history. In 2012, he topped his own success with ‘Hard 2 Love,’ an album that went Gold and featured three #1 Country singles, including “I Drive Your Truck,” which won Song of the Year at both the CMA and ACM Awards. The record earned raves everywhere from NPR to Country Weekly and found the New York Times hailing him as “a sensitive macho man,” a compliment that perfectly encapsulates both sides of Brice’s persona. ‘Hard 2 Love’ also garnered Lee his late-night debut with a stirring performance of “I Drive Your Truck” on NBC’s “The Tonight Show.”

Brice took it a step further on his latest album, ‘I Don’t Dance’ (9.14), relishing the role of producer with a flair for experimentation, resulting in the album’s title track hitting #1 at radio the week the album came out. Lee can currently be heard alongside long-time friend and label-mate, Jerrod Niemann, on Jerrod’s latest single, “A Little More Love.” Lee will continue to tour through the fall while also writing and recording his fourth studio album slated for release in 2017 on Curb Records.

The single also topped SiriusXM’s “The Highway” Top 45 Countdown chart and was touted as a “Country Song of the Summer” by Billboard. Morgan was named an “Artist to Watch” by Pandora Radio, while CMA Close Up declared the 23-year-old Vicksburg, MS native “a leader of a new wave of traditional Country Music singers,” noting “Morgan’s voice is unabashedly old-school velvet.”

Rascal Flatts Surprises Breakout Newcomer With RIAA Plaque Onstage In Indianapolis

Nashville, Tenn. (September 19, 2016) – Big Loud Records breakout star Chris Lane was surprised with a GOLD record plaque for his #1 single “Fix” Saturday night (9/17) in Indianapolis, as he celebrated the final night opening for Rascal Flatts and Kelsea Ballerini on this summer’s RHYTHM & ROOTS tour. The plaque, commemorating 500,000 sales and streams of Lane’s smash debut hit, was presented by Rascal Flatts in an onstage ceremony that followed Lane’s set and had the boisterous crowd roaring with applause.
“I'm excited to reach this milestone,” shared Lane. “I love seeing people show up and sing along to ‘Fix.’ This means that people are listening and believing in me, I don't take that for granted.”
“Fix,” which marked Lane’s first #1 at Country radio, hit #1 on the CMT Hot 20 Countdown this week, leading into his late-night TV debut September 28 on NBC’s Late Night With Seth Meyers.
Lane’s debut album Girl Problems – produced by superstar studio ace Joey Moi (Florida Georgia Line, Jake Owen) – was released August 5 to media applause for his bold, fresh sound and standout falsetto. The album features current single “For Her” as well as “Fix,” which surpassed an impressive 24 million streams on Spotify and 5.5 million views on Vevo, and gave Big Loud Records its first-ever #1 with its first single – an unheard-of start for a new label. Lane has won shout-outs from massive industry names like Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Selena Gomez, Florida Georgia Line, Lucy Hale, Daughtry, and more, after starting his career selling out club shows in his hometown of Kernersville, NC, before going on to open for Dustin Lynch’s sold-out HELL OF A NIGHT Tour and spending his summer on the RHYTHM & ROOTS Tour. The “For Her” video, featuring a romantic, real-life wedding proposal, was released September 17 with an exclusive CMT world premiere.

NASHVILLE – Reaction to the release of the “Forever Country” single has been immediate and overwhelming as fans respond to the message of life on the road, love for the fans, and the joy of “making music with my friends.”
“Forever Country” is a fresh take on three Country classics: John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again,” and Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You.” Denver, Nelson, and Parton are all former CMA Entertainers of the Year.
“We all thought this music was something special, but to see the reaction from the fans and our friends at Country radio has been so rewarding,” said Sarah Trahern, CMA Chief Executive Officer. “And it is only the beginning, with the companion music video sneak peek on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Tuesday night. Now the fans will not only get to hear these great performances, but see the artists in a dreamlike setting.”
Immediately following the sneak peek on “Dancing with the Stars,” fans will be directed to ForeverCountry50.com to see the full-length version of the music video.
“Forever Country” features 30 CMA Award-winning acts. The single was produced by CMA Award winner and CMA Board member Shane McAnally and the video was directed by Grammy Award-winning director Joseph Kahn.
Following the global roadblock of the “Forever Country” single, which premiered on hundreds of Country radio stations simultaneously on Sept. 16, interest skyrocketed and #ForeverCountry quickly became a top trending topic on Twitter, while the single quickly became a Top 10 on digital retailers, topping the Country sales list.
Fans fell in love:
“#ForeverCountry is incredible! It feels like a love letter to every Country fan out there, young and old,” said Joey Grillo (@JoeyGrillo_).
“#ForeverCountry is everything I love about Country Music in one. This is why I fell in love with the genre so many years ago,” said Alyssa (@alyssaa711).
“Just listened to the first radio play of #ForeverCountry. Such a great mix of voices old and new and a great celebration of Country Music,” said Alastair Clark (@cheesemeister97).
As part of the U.S. radio roadblock, CMA’s radio partners (except for CBS) launched a “Forever Country” sweepstakes allowing fans to enter for their chance to win the “Ultimate CMA Awards Experience.”
The winner of the sweepstakes will be granted two tickets to “The 50th Annual CMA Awards,” round trip coach airfare to Nashville, two nights of hotel accommodations, the opportunity to walk the CMA Awards Red Carpet, sit in the Red Carpet fan section, present an official CMA Broadcast Award at the pre-broadcast Awards ceremony, and receive a $250 Visa gift card for food and transportation. Fans can learn more and enter to win at ForeverCountry50.com.
While listeners were getting their first listen across the Country radio universe, ABC’s “Good Morning America” announced the full list of talent for the music video and released a 90-second, behind-the-scenes video teaser on GoodMorningAmerica.com on Yahoo.
Universal Music Group Nashville is exclusively partnering with CMA to market and distribute “Forever Country” worldwide. The song is available now at all digital retail and streaming outlet partners. CMA profits from the sales and streaming of “Forever Country” will benefit music education causes through the CMA Foundation.
“The 50th Annual CMA Awards” will be hosted by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood and broadcast live from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Wednesday, Nov. 2 (8:00-11:00 PM/ET) on the ABC Television Network.

New Single, "Love Can Go To Hell" Top 5 Most Added at Country Radio

Audience Network (DIRECTV and AT&T U-verse) to Spotlight Clark in 2016 Season + featured in this week’s NPR  To The Best of Our Knowledge
NASHVILLE, Tenn./LOS ANGELES, Calif./BIRMINGHAM, England (Monday, Sept. 19, 2016) – “I wanted [Big Day In A Small Town] to feel like it was Any Small Town, USA,” Brandy Clark says of her sophomore album that came out in mid-June, “but to be general, I think first you have to be specific,” she shared with Charles Monroe-Kane from a studio in Nashville on this week’s NPR’s To The Best of Our Knowledge when discussing the influence her hometown played in the process of writing for this record. With a series of C2C U.K. tour stops underway following last week’s sold out Hotel Café show in Los Angeles and a taping for the Audience Network to air this fall, it's clear Clark’s specificities are doing just what she hoped—relating.

In fact, earlier this year The Tennessean’s Cindy Watts referred to her as “a singer who can relate” in a cover story reminding readers of Clark’s humble beginnings upon moving from the 900-person town of Morton, Wash. “Brandy Clark was lured to Music City by hooky songs, recognizable names and dreams of fame. Today, she’s one of country music’s leading women, lending a thoughtful, articulate voice to small town life.” The Wall Street Journal's Barry Mazor opined, "she’s a major country songwriter, consistently able to devise narrative portraits of down-home people (many of those stories haunting, some plain funny), and to furnish them with precise images and metaphors that stick. She’s also proved to be a winning singer with an unadorned and touching vocal style..."

Her new single, "Love Can Go To Hell," dubbed "a wistful break-up treatise ... which nails the sadness and anger of the post-love life over a pretty bed of layered acoustic instruments and a chugging groove" (Rolling Stone), is a prime example of her depictive writing on Big Day and was top 5 most-added at Country radio.

Of her voice, well, Clark's just happy to hear others joining it on tour. “I’m never happier than when I hear the crowd singing along to the words I’ve written/to the songs I’m singing,” shares the singer/songwriter. To have opportunities to really connect with shows like last week at Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles/tomorrow in Birmingham, England or when performing for fans on television, Clark adds, “I've gotten to see, hear and discover a lot of great music through series like those on the Audience Network or shows like last week where a friend would let me tag along, and I try to go into those shows asking myself, 'what would the younger version of me -- the one hoping for a chance, dreaming of an opportunity to pursue my passion for music want to hear/see?' And I think as long as people will show up, tune in, or listen to my songs, I'll show up anywhere I'm wanted!"

Brandy Clark U.K. tour dates are as follows, with special guest Ben Glover:

Sept. 20       Birmingham, England Birmingham        Glee Club
Sept. 21       Glasgow, Scotland                                   Glasgow Oran Mor
Sept. 23       London, England                                     London Cadogan Hall
Sept. 24       Manchester, England                               Manchester Gorilla

Brandy Clark’s Audience Network Concert Series performance exclusively airs on DIRECTV and AT&T U-verse. Check local listings for viewing.

The Morton, Washington-native received her first of four career GRAMMY nominations in 2013 in the Best Country Song category for co-writing the Miranda Lambert No. 1 hit “Mama’s Broken Heart.” She won the 2014 CMA Song of the Year Award for “Follow Your Arrow,” which she co-wrote with Shane McAnally and Kacey Musgraves, and was also named the 2014 Music Row Breakthrough Artist of the Year. The Academy of Country Music voters nominated her for Female Vocalist of the Year in 2015.
