CD Review: THE SWON BROTHERS - The Swon Brothers

The Swon Brothers

What I'm Thinking About        3:20
Later On                        3:37
Chasing You Around            3:55
Songs That Said It All            3:15
Pray For You                    3:54
Breaking                        4:01
95                            3:11
Pretty Beautiful                3:17
Colder                        3:57
Same Old Highway            2:52
This Side Of Heaven            3:56

If every country debut cd was as good as THE SWON BROTHERS no country act would ever fail  The cd opens with “What I'm Thinkin' About” and while I was still smiling “Later On” came on and my smile got bigger.  “Chasing You Around” should please the ears of every cool-retro-country fan with the killer bridge “...and with one last broken promise I finally realize, I may be yours but you're not mine”.  “Songs That Said It All” left me a little flat, although the harmonies are spot on fantastic.  “Pray For You” is okay but the chorus first line “Sometimes you need more than whiskey” in a non drinking song didn't ring true to me.  “Breaking” is a knockout ballad and “95” is a great upbeat summer song ala It's Five O'Clock Somewhere.  “Pretty Beautiful” might be the most sonically wonderful way I've ever heard you're-perfect-so-let's-go-F??? sung, followed perfectly by “Colder”, a really nice cool-retro-coountry ballad.  “Same Old Highway” continues to leave me wondering whether the singers are physically looking for the girl or the whole song is about saving the relationship because the lyric never seems to tell me.  With the great singing, great melody and great guitar this song would have been well placed as the last song on this cd instead of “This Side Of Heaven”, an intense downer song which could have been a heart wrenching cigarette-lighter-lit song but instead leaves me taking the cd out of my player instead of tapping my foot right into the first song repeat.

All in all, THE SWON BROTHERS will be a much played cd in anyone's collection and I truly look forward to their sophomore release.

Due September 30 (Chesky Records)

McEuen Brings Together Extraordinary Artists From Diverse GenresTo Produce A Quintessential
Roots-Based Project

The World’s Greatest Pickers & Singers Perform David Amram, David Bromberg, John Carter Cash, John Cowan, Steve Martin, Martha Redbone & More

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  (July XX, 2016) – Grammy-award winning producer, songwriter and musician John McEuen has announced his plans to release his sixth solo album titled MADE IN BROOKLYN (Chesky Records).* The 16-track collection of signature originals and songs from yesteryear was created in similar fashion to the landmark WILL THE CIRCLE BE UNBROKEN and will appeal to all genres and all generations. MADE IN BROOKLYN is scheduled for a
September 30, 2016 release.

Much like the iconic Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s WILL THE CIRCLE BE UNBROKEN  album (initiated by McEuen in 1971), John convened an exceptional group of musicians (all of whom have been instrumental in molding American Music in their own right) in Brooklyn. Together they created a “music-to-your-ears” audio feast purposefully produced to enable the listener an “in-studio experience.”
“With the CIRCLE projects, my brother Bill’s production method put all the players in a circle, with all the mics mixed live to two tracks. The highest quality method at the time--it made listeners feel like they were sitting in the front row of a small concert,” McEuen introduced. “The Chesky technology utilizes just one special binaural mic and the performers circle around it; the listener feels like they’re in the band.”
MADE IN BROOKLYN, part of Chesky’s Binaural + Series, is poised to rank among the audiophiles’ top “must-have” recordings. Borrowing from an old-fashioned, live production method, all musicians were strategically positioned in a reverberant church (located in Brooklyn, NY) for a single-pass recording. The live performances were captured in high-resolution (24-bit/192kHz) with the single “Dummy Head” microphone system, affectionately named “LARS.”  (Lars' ear microphones are specially calibrated to recreate the spatial characteristics of human hearing to offer a spacious, lush and multi-dimensional listening experience).
“Put on a set of headphones and you’ll hear the three-dimensional sound Chesky recordings have become known for,” said Norman Chesky, President of Chesky Records. “MADE IN BROOKLYN is exquisite; you’ll hear some of the most natural and pure cool music ever recorded. We’re extremely proud of John’s project as an example of musical perfection with the binaural process.”
MADE IN BROOKLYN showcases signature originals (such as “Miner’s Night Out,” “Acoustic Traveller” and “Jule’s Theme,”) while paying homage to John’s roots with “Blue Ridge Cabin Home” (Flatt & Scruggs), “I Still Miss Someone,”  (Johnny Cash), “She Darked The Sun” (Bernie Leadon/Gene Clark) and Warren Zevon’s "Excitable Boy.”  The contemporary, fresh rendition of “Mr. Bojangles”   (one of McEuen’s all-time favorite songs) spotlights David Bromberg’s vocal performance, Andy Goesling on clarinet and David Amram on flute. A special gem is “My Favorite Dream,” a never-heard nor recorded Felice and Boudleaux Bryant song brought to John by their son, Del Bryant. In McEuen’s opinion, “this is a tune that has been overlooked and will become a new classic standard.”
“Just as the CIRCLE album reached across lines of acoustic, Bluegrass and country, and appealed to folks from all walks of life, I believe MADE IN BROOKLYN will too,” added McEuen.
Making early introductions to the project, Chesky Records will release the debut single “Excitable Boy;” the track will be available via all major retail digital and streaming outlets on August 26, 2016.

  lead singer.)

Over the course of his 50-year career, multi-instrumental "String Wizard," John McEuen has performed more than 9,500 concerts, covering more than three million miles globally with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and as a solo performer. McEuen has recorded over 40 albums (6 solo)--four platinum and five gold--garnering awards that include GRAMMYs, Emmy nominations, CMA and ACM awards and IBMA Record of the Year honors. As a musician, McEuen has built a lasting legacy including his seminal work on the WILL THE CIRCLE BE UNBROKEN album, recognized as "the most important record to come out of Nashville" (Rolling Stone) and "the most important record in country music" (2004 ZAGAT survey).
Beyond performing, McEuen has produced more than 300 concerts throughout his career (the first in 1965 in Long Beach Calif. with Bob Dylan). In 2010, his record production of THE CROW (Steve Martin) won a GRAMMY for “Best Bluegrass Album.”
McEuen has a rich history in creating, producing and preserving original, traditional folk and acoustic music and taking it to new audiences. McEuen's THE MUSIC OF THE WILD WEST was honored with the Western Heritage Award; he scored a GRAMMY nomination for STRING WIZARDS II and earned the Uncle Dave Macon Award for “excellence in preservation and performance of historic music.”
John is show host of the popular "Acoustic Traveller" radio show on Sirius/XM's The Bridge (now in its 8th year) and is the CEO of, a music and political news website.
Chesky Records opened its doors in 1986.  The label is the brainchild of recording artist David Chesky who had the personal insight to recognize that standard audio albums lacked the subtle nuances of live performance, and that the human ear hears much more than modern stereo techniques reproduce. Enlisting the help of his brother, Norman Chesky, the business partners formed the NY-based label with one simple philosophy: to create the illusion of live musicians in a three-dimensional space--to capture and produce “music FOR your ears.”
Home to multiple GRAMMY® award-winning recordings and artists (including Macy Gray, John Hammond, McCoy Tyner, Herbie Mann, David Johansen and the Harry Smiths, Joe Henderson, Chuck Mangione, Paquito D'Rivera, Ron Carter, Larry Coryell, John Pizzarelli, Bucky Pizzarelli, Babatunde Olatunji, Ana Caram, Rebecca Pidgeon and more), Chesky Records has become known for its superb, high-fidelity audio design.
Specifically engineered to heighten the listening experience, Chesky’s Binaural+ Series rank among the top recordings on audiophiles’ must-have list.  The label has also introduced HD versions of numerous albums via its download website HDtracks. Listeners can enjoy higher resolution recordings not otherwise captured by the compression limits of a compact disc.
Projects and songs recorded by Crosby, Stills & Nash (first three albums),
Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson
and Johnny Cash have also been distributed through  HDtracks. Other notable artists include Carole King, Janis Joplin, Michael Jackson, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, as well as Allison Krauss, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, The Eagles, Carrie Underwood and Blake Shelton.

Nashville, TN - July 28, 2016 - Multi-PLATINUM singer/songwriter Kip Moore was on hand at the opening of a new skatepark in Cincinnati, OH yesterday as part of his “Comeback Kid Skatepark Project.”  The Warsaw Federal Skatepark, a project of the Lower Price Hill Neighborhood Enhancement Program, features a 35-foot-by-68-foot pump track, three grind rails and a Hubba skate ledge. Kids in attendance were surprised with free skateboards, helmets, knee pads, and backpacks filled with T-shirts and socks.
"I'm always searching for purpose in my life,” said Kip Moore.  "I battle the feeling of if I'm doing enough with the small amount of time I have on this earth each day.  I'm so blessed to get to do what I do, but I have always believed with those blessings come responsibility. Days like today give me that feeling of purpose. I get to see a direct impact in a needed community. I get to see the smiles on these kid’s faces and the positive impact it creates.  There are so many things I wanna do in the inner cities and this is just the beginning.”
The "Comeback Kid Skatepark Project” is the first initiative of "Kip's Kids Fund," a donor-advised fund through The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee (CFMT) focused on youth and teens.  Other skatepark locations include Nashville, TN; Boston, MA; San Marcos, TX; Annapolis, MD.  For more information and to make a donation visit here.
A constant road warrior, Moore is currently gearing up to headline Nashville’s Ascend Amphitheater next month, as part of "The Big 98’s Annual Guitar-B-Que Benefitting St. Jude” and recently revealed dates for his headlining ME AND MY KIND TOUR, which will see Moore visit cities across the US and Canada through early December and includes red-hot newcomer Jon Pardi. As Moore continues to be "met with more deafening applause” (CMT) he is currently on the road for Miranda Lambert’s Keeper Of The Flame Tour.  Hailed as a “career song” by Billboard, Moore’s current single “Running For You” continues to climb the charts and is taken from Moore’s critically acclaimed sophomore album WILD ONES, that Taste of Country deems is “tailored for his live show and the thousands of die-hard fans that pack theaters several times each week to see him,” and Huffington Post declares as “one heck of an album… set to produce hit after hit after hit.” WILD ONES follows Moore’s debut album UP ALL NIGHT which was certified GOLD by the RIAA and spawned three No. One hit singles including GOLD certified “Beer Money,” PLATINUM certified "Hey Pretty Girl," and the DOUBLE PLATINUM breakout hit "Somethin' 'Bout A Truck.”

Ein vorausschauender Rückblick - Bruce Springsteen veröffentlicht am 23. September seine Anthologie "Chapter And Verse"

Image Label

Juli, vorbestellbar. Hier ein Trailer des Filmemachers Thom Zimny zu „Chapter And Verse“:

Billy Talent

ARIZONA - Robin Schulz Remix

Akon.
Hamburg, Barclaycard Arena // 15.12. München, Olympiahalle // 16.12. Berlin, UFO im Velodrom // 17.12. Oberhausen, König-Pilsener-Arena.

Jason Derulo

So You Think You Can Dance” aktiv.

Major Lazer

Mal gestreamt.

Regina Spektor

Ihre letzte LP “What We Saw From The Cheap Seats” enthielt u.a. den Grammy-nominierten Titelsong der Netflix-Erfolgsserie “Orange Is The New Black”, alias “You’ve Got Time”.
Düsseldorf, New Fall Festival @ CCD // 29.10. Stuttgart, New Fall Festival @ Liederhalle.
