Kacey Musgraves will Perform at G Fest in Honor of Merle Haggard
Plans Unveiled for Merle Haggard Monument and Street in Muskogee, Okla.
General Admission Tickets Available for $109 until May 15;
Single-Day Tickets Now Available Starting at $39
“Artists like Merle Haggard are important because they became legends and set trends not by worrying about money and fame but just by being themselves. So it just inspires me even more to uphold what’s important to me as a person and songwriter first and not worry about the rest,” said Musgraves.
The Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame has been given the green light to place a Merle Haggard monument on the north lawn of the Muskogee Civic Center, a step forward for a project about five years in the making. The memorial, as originally envisioned, would include a bronze sculpture of Haggard sitting on a bench with a guitar case and hat. It would be placed where visitors can take photos of "Old Glory down at the courthouse" and the Civic Center, where Haggard recorded the album Okie from Muskogee. OMHOF Executive Director Jim Blair believes an opportunity exists that would expand the scope of the memorial and add a monument Haggard designed and asked a Ponca City artist, Dan Jones, to create. Haggard planned to have the piece placed at his ranch near Bakersfield, Calif.
"They want to see that placed in Muskogee," Blair said about those who are part of Haggard's organization. "The bench will be great, but what a story to tell — to have a memorial standing next to it that was designed by Merle himself."
In addition to the monument, organizers plan on revealing the "Merle Haggard Avenue" street sign in the coming months.
Single-day tickets to G Fest are now available, with Thursday available for $39, Friday for $49 and Saturday for $59 until May 15. General Admission three-day passes are available for $109, and VIP Reserved Seating and VIP Party Pit tickets for $329 until May 15. VIP Reserved Seating and VIP Party Pit gives ticket holders access to an exclusive area directly in front of the stage, parking, designated bathrooms and a separate bar. For fans wanting the true G Fest experience, primitive camping is available starting at $90 and RV camping starting at $375.
Festival organizers are giving ticket holders the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see their favorite stars up-close-and-personal with the Party Pit. Located directly in front of the main stage, the Party Pit puts fans steps away from their favorite artists during their performances! There are a very limited number of passes in this standing-room-only area, and passes must be purchased in addition to three-day or VIP tickets. Prices vary by artist and start at $10.

Florida Georgia Line - H.O.L.Y. (Single Review)
Release Date: 29 April 2016
Label: Big Machine Label Group, LLC
Time: 3:16 minutes
Available for download on Amazon | UK iTunes
FGL open a new chapter showing a softer side on H.O.L.Y.
The self-appointed bro-country multi award winning duo Florida Georgia Line (Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley) return but this time with something a whole lot more meaningful.
They display a fresh maturity which should reach out to, and be embraced by a wide age demographic given its universal appeal.
In terms of quality this could well be their best effort yet and certainly their most noteworthy since the mid-tempo Billboard #1 ballad "Dirt" dropped on July 8, 2014.
H.O.L.Y. (writers Nate Cyphert, William Larsen and busbee) opens with a gentle acoustic guitar and piano underscored with a soft back beat.
It finds Tyler Hubbard’s role depicting a desperately lonely, thoughtful and reflective mood. As winter sets in clinging onto threads of hope, he sings:
I couldn't find a day I didn't feel alone, I never meant to cry, started losing hope...
As the rain clouds disperse and love is found, a new biblical-like chapter is opened as Brian Kelley joins in on the chorus lines:
You're holy, holy, holy, holy, I'm high on loving you, high on loving you
Although the pair didn't write the worship-like tune they obviously became emotionally attached to the song. They show a deep respect, honour and gratitude towards their wife's who they've desired for so long to marry and to raise their future offspring.
You made the brightest days from the darkest nights
You're the river bank where I was baptized
Cleanse all the demons
That were killing my freedom
Let me lay you down, give me to ya
Get you singing babe, hallelujah
We'll be touching, we'll be touching heaven
The number with its overtly spiritual vibe is thankfully uncluttered production wise. It allows Hubbard’s vocals the space to shine and soar as he digs deep to evoke the necessary emotion and passion without crossing the line for it be considered too syrupy, thus delivering a sweet yet honest sentiment:
You're an angel, tell me you're never leaving, Cos you're the first thing I know I can believe in
Lyrically, Hubbard trades both personal experiences and metaphors on “H.O.L.Y.” like a sweet love letter to his significant other with the words:
I don't need the stars cos you shine for me, Like fire in my veins, you're my ecstasy (You're my ecstasy)
Later in the track a faint organ and steel drift over the background harmony.
As the love song gently fades and with healing hands soothing the hurt FGL are it seems Forever Grateful Lovers!
With summer on the country horizon this will be another welcome addition to what is becoming an already ballad laden Billboard chart! The genre it seems, in this currently crazy world, feels there's a need for positivity, hope and to spread genuine love.
In fact, FGL have another song waiting in the angel’s wings called "Music Is Healing" on their forthcoming third studio album named DIG YOUR ROOTS.
Joey Moi has returned to produce the record, and Tim McGraw is slated to make an appearance on one song.
Brian Kelley & Tyler Hubbard got their start playing guitar and singing in church both separately and together (worship leaders) and return to that vibe on “H.O.L.Y.”
"God's been good to us and on our side and I think this one's going to shine big" said Kelley.
Don't be surprised to see this gently "cruise" to the top of the charts.

You might not be familiar with the name Bryan Chalker. Probably because he makes his home in England. I never got to actually meet Bryan, but I sure did listen to him when I was traveling Europe on tour, sometimes two or three a year when I started recording for Moses Asch. Bryan was a disc jockey in Britain, one of the most popular ones working, mostly because he had no stringent 'play the charts only' disposition. He wanted to play what he liked, and what he thought his listeners liked. This of course led to some disagreements with those who 'call the shots.' Bryan wound up on pirate radio, maybe you remember 'Radio Caroline' which was broadcasting from a boat three miles off shore from England making it a legal broadcasting station. What I heard back in those days was this very music that Bryan has now recorded himself. America's traditional music at its very best. There are no less than six songs on this album written by my good friend Jimmy Driftwood. Driftwood and I go back quite a long ways, and it is a real treat for me to hear his music still being recorded and played. Bryan has a very interesting bass-baritone voice that captivates not only the listener, but the very song itself as he presents it the way he likes to hear it. He has some incredibly good old-timey musicians working with him, acoustic guitars, mandolin, jew's harp, fiddle, autoharp, upright bass, piano, Dobro, banjo, and harmonica, in very many different groupings and lead playing. I also like the 'mix' on this CD because it allows me to hear every word Bryan is singing, therefore able to 'understand' the stories in the songs without having to bend over backwords trying to 'hear' what is going on, a definite problem with country music coming from Nashville these days. It's amazing how Bryan is keeping this music so very 'alive' and so very 'well done.' It's rapidly disappearing from America's radio stations, with those dedicated to it existing mostly in the east, or at least in the Appalachian Mountain area. I listened to every song, sometimes twice, and am quite impressed with how well Bryan has put this album together. His voice is very distinctive and 'fits' the mood and mode of all of these songs. Many of them are survivors from an era long past, but Bryan keeps those 'history lessons' right on track, and they sound great. I was impressed that although he didn't do Driftwood's 'Battle of New Orleans," he did record "The Road To Chalamette" which is the same battle, but told through the eyes and viewpoint of the British, who Andrew Jackson defeated that day at the place called Chalmette. This entire CD is a wonderful work of art. How can I say that? Because art is in the eye, and in this case the ear, of the beholder. What a neat job Bryan Chalker has done in keeping some of America's most famous historical events alive and well. Thank you Mr. Chalker. This CD goes promptly to the Rural Roots Music Commission, and Lord only knows how Bryan Chalker is going to find his way to America if they give him a CD of the Year award.

COSETTE 'COZY' HEMEN
Knuckles Duff And His Pick-Up Truck
Knuckles Duff and his Pick-Up Truck
This CD is a single song DJ copy of a song written by South Dakotan writer Cosette Hemen. It was a kind of challenge, she attends the annual Old Time Music Festival in LeMars, Iowa, and being the good songwriter she is, decided to enter the songwriting contest. The 'topic' she drew to write about is the name of the song, "Knuckles Duff And His Pick-Up Truck." It's all a very interesting story, Mr. Duff is a very successful man who makes his home in Newport Beach, California. He was born and raised in Iowa, however, and likes to come back to help-out at the LeMars Festival, doing very important Emcee chores. He does them well, and when his nick-name came together with a down-home pick-up truck, it was a natural for Cosette to write the song about him. As it turned out, it's a very complete story about Knuckles Duff and his experiences with his pick-up truck, and how he heroically saved the day in an interesting festival situation. Cosette played guitar and sang the lead, and Rick Anderson added some fine harmonica licks to the project, and recorded it at his R & H Studio. Hopefully this 'single' recording will lead to others, perhaps even a full CD of songs chock full of upper Midwest experiences like Bob Duff's pick-up truck.

Watch What Happens - Lincoln Skyline - Pomegrante Rag - A Night In Seville - Riverside Stroll - Flip Of A Coin - 12 Street Blues - Whiskey Before Seven - Out in The Moonlight - Peaceful Thunder
Wow, I can't begin to tell you how impressed I am with this young musician, 16-year old Matthew Davis. He just gave a monster concert at the Oak Tree in Anita, Iowa, and I suspect he is going to find his road in life full of music surprises as he makes his way to a very high success experience. He plays all kinds of music, but he excels on the 5-string banjo (meaning he's a great bluegrasser), but he also excels on acoustic guitar (meaning he's a great vocalist and rhythm-lead player), but he also excels on mandolin (meaning he can find a spot in his heart for some interesting folk music), but he also excels on piano, especially the old upright tight and solid. Rag of course is his supreme favorite which this CD has a ton of, but he also likes jazz, and we find a lot of this too. What's so very interesting about this young guy is that he plays piano, guitar, banjo, bass, mandolin, and drums on the entire experiment, and lo and behold he plays all of them extremely well. His brother Nicholas Davis is the sound board mixer, meaning he had his hands full putting the music into a listenable experience, and he did remarkably well bringing all these individual tracks together so magnificently. He also contributed some saxophone, trumpet, and rhythm guitar to the project. Whaaaaat! Where did these two young brothers come from? From Nebraska, where else. Born and raised in the Alma area, they both got the same 'musical education' listening to what is available out here on the great prairie lands, which is definitely not 'limited' to what we hear as country music today. They can get it all, and enjoy it equally well with their own listeners and fans. This CD "By Request" is chock full of that old-time style. And by old-time I mean it takes in vaudeville to the hilt, 'Pomegranate Rag,' 'Flip Of A Coin' and 'Out In The Moonlight' sounds like it just walked in from 1920, proud and gushy full of that old-time sound, even a washboard effect, but it's the lead guitar that 'fills' the music with expression, and please don't forget the banjo in that old-time style, and all the other lead instruments that take turns. Piano is the major lead instrument throughout, and 'Riverside Stroll' sounds exactly that, only in my imagination as I listen, it's me and my wife Sheila walking along the Seine River in Paris, France, which we've done. My favorite song is "12 Street Blues" extremely well done with the electric guitar taking turns answering each other in a stereo effect. Super well done, especially the mix. Wow, this instrumental CD will take you back in time to another era, another sound experience, another wonder. Even though it precedes the great traditional country instrumental sound I so enjoy coming off the Appalachian Mountains, this particular CD sails with little effort in capturing and captivating the listener, because no doubt, it will require more than one listen to acquaint oneself with all the interjected and interspersed interplay that happens on this delightful project. Highly recommended for jazz listeners, but even more recommended to any traditional or classic music lover that wants to hear something incredibly well done, and incredibly well executed. Off it goes to the Rural Roots Music Commission.
