Eric Church shocks event organizers, attendees and honorees

Eric Church shocks event organizers, attendees and honorees

Kannapolis, N.C. (Oct. 16, 2015) - Long before receiving a CMA Entertainer of the Year nomination and shattering venue attendance records on his The Outsiders World TourEric Church beguiled audiences in gritty dive bars with solo renditions of his then lesser-known hits amidst his show while giving his band a break from grueling three hour a night-plus set. Last night, Church found himself back in a small theater in North Carolina in a familiar yet slightly different situation after breaking in through a second story balcony, but still standing on stage with his trademark aviators and an electric guitar in hand wondering what in the hell he should play.

It all started innocently enough...

After wrapping earlier than expected at a private event in his home state, Church found himself only an hour and a half away from the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame ceremony where his mother, Rita Church, accompanied by his sister Kendra, were attending the induction to accept the invitation on his behalf. Realizing he had no time to spare, Eric borrowed the keys to his father Ken's vehicle and--with his wife Katherine and assistant Marshall Alexander in tow--they rushed in an attempt to make it to the Gem Theater in time for the dedication. While Alexander drove, Eric was busy texting his sister--unbeknownst to her or the hundreds in attendance--to see if he could arrive in time as he now had set his mind on attending and surprising the crowd.

When only a few miles away, Eric learned his mother had stepped on stage to read her remarks of gratitude for the honor, but instead of chalking it up to a missed opportunity, Alexander and the Church's proceeded on, whipping the SUV into an alley where they hoped a back entrance existed to the theater. There, the trio spotted cords snaking into a second level balcony entrance, and without hesitation or clarification, Alexander scaled the wall to gauge the scene, bursting through backstage balcony barn doors. Startling a group of musicians prepared to take the stage next to close out the ceremony, Alexander confirmed that indeed Rita Church was currently on stage speaking to the black tie clad crowd. Always resourceful, Alexander grabbed a nearby ladder and threw it over the edge, urging the Church's to hurriedly ascend in order to make it in time for Rita's closing remarks.

Rita continued, "...and on behalf of our family, my son, the fans..." then her speech was interrupted by an eruption of screams and applause as Eric stepped on stage to echo her sentiments and thank the crowd.

But before he could leave, the crowd demanded their Hall of Fame inductee play something. Unprepared having barely made it for the ceremony, the North Carolinian borrowed a beat up electric guitar, and said, "well, let's see what I can play in whatever key this is in..." And with that, Church played a new solo rendition of "Carolina" before exiting down the ladder, getting back into the car, and heading back home.

JASON ALDEAN STAMPS WE WERE HERE 2016 TOUR
WITH LAUNCH OF NEW MUSIC VIDEO

“Gonna Know We Were Here” Music Video Takes Aldean Back to his Hometown
and Premieres Today Exclusively On Yahoo

Nashville, TN – Oct. 16, 2015 – RIAA’s top digital country male artist of all time Jason Aldean will launch his WE WERE HERE 2016 TOUR on Jan. 15 following a monumental run that sold over two million tickets and hosted capacity crowds at the nation’s biggest stadiums, amphitheaters and arenas. Tickets for select shows on the 24-city run with special guests Thomas Rhett and A Thousand Horses go on-sale next Friday, Oct. 23 at JasonAldean.com and LiveNation.com. Additionally, next spring Aldean will make his first-ever trip to Australia where he’ll also play a string of headlining tour dates.

“This song pretty much sums up how I feel like me and my fans live our lives,” said Aldean. “That same excitement is what we feel out there on the road every night, which made it a great name for next year’s tour. It was pretty cool that we could bring that vibe to the music video too by shooting it back in Macon with a ton of people from my hometown. Getting back there and on that high school football field really reminded me of that rush of just living life without any regrets."

The CMA nominee simultaneously releases the official music video for his Top 15 single from which the new tour drew its name. Directed by Shaun Silva, the spirited video for “Gonna Know You Were Here” takes Aldean back to his stomping grounds in Macon, GA. To watch the video on Yahoo click HERE.

Aldean will wrap his 2015 BURN IT DOWN TOUR next weekend, which has been praised by critics all year-long as he “ushers in the era of the new country star; he's equal parts rock star, sensitive balladeer and wild-eyed backroads guide” (Billboard). Capacity crowds and triumphant stadium shows have been a common denominator as fans “loved it from start to finish" (Toronto Sun) and were “burned by fiery guitar licks and Aldean's brand of smoking hot country” (Arizona Republic). The three-time and reigning ACM “Male Vocalist of the Year" will close out the tour on Oct. 24 in West Palm Beach with his 10th Annual “Concert For The Cure” where a portion of they year’s ticket sales will be donated to Susan G. Komen South Florida. Aldean has sold more than 10 million albums, with each release being certified PLATINUM or better. His “most ambitious album to date” (Associated Press) OLD BOOTS NEW DIRT was the first country album released and certified PLATINUM in 2014 and has yielded three consecutive No. ones marking Aldean’s 16th career chart-topper. It is currently nominated for “Album of the Year" at the approaching CMA Awards as well as “Favorite Country Album” at the upcoming AMA’s where he also nabbed a “Favorite Country Male Artist" nod.

PLATINUM-selling Thomas Rhett leads the pack as one of country music’s elite new artists with four consecutive No. one hits leading into his new single “Die A Happy Man” off his recently released sophomore album, TANGLED UP. Rolling Stone notes "he's discovered the artist he was always meant to be,” as the new music follows his debut album IT GOES LIKE THIS (The Valory Music Co.), which spawned three chart-toppers hits, making him Billboard’s first male country artist to do so from a debut album in over two decades. Initially garnering attention as a gifted songwriter with credits including hits by Florida Georgia Line, Jason Aldean and Lee Brice, it is his “high-energy all the way” (El Paso Times) live show that has “the audience dancing all the way up in the rafters of the stadium” (Billboard) that continues to catch the attention of critics out on the road.

A Thousand Horses is a fresh fusion of classic sounds – a hybrid of Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Allman Brothers, Black Crowes and Exile on Main Street-era Rolling Stones - wrapped up in a modern-country context. Their first single “Smoke" went to No. one after making Country Aircheck history as the highest debut for a new artist’s first single and becoming the first band to send a debut single to No. one on Billboard Country Airplay Chart this decade. The band initially gained momentum playing clubs across the South with Rolling Stone Country hailing the foursome as the Best Up-and-Comer at 2014’s Austin City Limits, and USA Today named them one of 2015’s Artists to Watch and an On the Verge Artist. Their first album on the Big Machine Label Group, Southernality, is now available on iTunes and the second single from the album, “(This Ain’t No) Drunk Dial" is currently making its way up the Country charts.

The Nashville Connection Songster Bus Songwriting Contest

The Nashville Connection Songster Bus Songwriting Contest

The ultimate songwriting experience and opportunity for up-and-coming songwriters and singers to boost their skills and careers started Tuesday with the take-off of the Songster Bus.

The Songster Bus is a competition where songwriters are divided into teams and assigned hit songwriters mentoring them to write the best song possible while being on the road on a bus for seven hours.  Country Music News International had the privilege to be on one of two buses observing the talents and the process.  Before we boarded, there was a relaxed mingling at a hotel lobby.  We say relaxed, because the contestants that we talked to were more looking forward to the friends they were making along the way (no pun intended) than nervous about what was ahead of them.  When all were aboard, the mentors, super hit writers Dave Gibson and Bernie Nelson, made sure the participants felt at ease as well, providing their expertise and ability to seemingly without any effort at all provide the right words and the right chords at the appropriate times.  It looked as if the process was orchestrated, but it wasn't - it was purely perfected professionalism.

For the songwriting challenge, the teams were provided a theme to go by while writing.  The theme could be used literally or as an outline to create the song's ambiance.  A challenge both teams on the Songster Bus we were on took on with vigorous glee.  While eighteen wheelers swiftly passed by and were passed by, potential country hit songs were created.  The bus was an actual tour bus, with comfortable grey leather seats in the front and the back along with tables complete with much needed cup holders.  In the middle of the bus were the bunk beds, and for this occasion instead of providing rest for weary, touring musicians, they served as the perfect storage places for everyone's guitar cases.

Several of the songwriters had served in the military, so, in between songwriting creativity spouts and fine tuning of guitars, there were war stories told about lost buddies, heroes. That was very appropriate, since this challenge is only one part of a weeklong musical experience that has a Jamming For The Cause with Irline Mandrell, an Unveiling Ceremony of a "Remembering Our Fallen" exhibit and a Heroes Salute concert with Wade Hayes at The Nashville Palace as its Grand Finale.

Contestants came to Nashville from states like Mississippi, South Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee among others, and found out about this contest in several different ways.  Some from twitter, some from their boss and yet some earned their spot as winners of the Nashville Connection's talent show called Shine Night.  There were also talented writers who qualified for their second year in a row, like for instance Hannah Clayton, who's aiming to become a Vocal Instructor and Bert Murray (Veteran), previous year's Songster Bus winner.  Murray has released a concept EP and is working on an album with all original songs.  Another participant, Gabriel Wren (Veteran), is unique in that way that he has only been singing and writing songs for a year.  Still, he was as comfortable co-writing in this environment as any other songwriter.  Come to find out, he has already co-written with several big names in the industry, has had songs chosen for TV-shows and has the well known Nashville Producer Buddy Hyatt as a mentor.  For only being into music for that short period of time, that is already an impressive tenure.

Both Bernie Nelson's and Dave Gibson's songwriting teams finished their songs within an hour before arriving in Nashville.  One competition participant, Pete Reddan, who also is a Veteran, expressed:  "We have built the skeleton; the lyrics [the melody] and the structure, we only need to polish it a little". That they will be doing for two days with the help of music industry professionals, coaching them to have their song sounding as good as possible for their performance in front of the judges on Friday.

After seven hours on the road including a stop at a Sushi restaurant in Madison, Alabama, our Country bus arrived (perfectly synched in time with the Pop/Rock/Urban Crossover bus that came from Atlanta) to the Legislative Plaza in Nashville welcomed by press and supporters.  First time competitor Shelby Lee Lowe said "It was less stressful than I thought" about the songwriting process.  He walked off the bus with his team member country/singer/songwriter Bethany Kathleen, who was in Nashville for her fifth time.  The producers Dave Brooks and Joan Betros held cheerful welcoming speeches receiving  even more cheerful "yeay's" from the participants and bystanders.

The winner of the Songster Bus competition will have the honor of performing their song at The Heroes Salute Concert on Saturday, opening for Wade Hayes.
