So what's really going on with the music business today?

So what's really going on with the music business today?

Quite often I hear, Danie, the music business is dead. Really? Is that why Rihanna just sold 100 million downloads? & independents who are investing in their music career, are making an incredible living from it? Today's business of music means you must invest in yourself & your craft. There is more opportunity for independents today, than there was ten years ago. Are you doing enough? do you know what to do? 99% of musicians, artists, bands out there today are independent. Back in 'the day' you sought out backers, labels, percentage deals. If you still have that mind set today, get out of the business because you will never survive it. Today you must builda name for yourself, your name becomes your 'business'. Your business must be promoted. Your fan bases become your 'consumers'. You are slowly developing a brand.

Ultimately you must respect all media ( radio DJ's, PR people, publicists, journalists etc. ) because it is THEY that will reach your needed audience. To have 100,000 followers means nothing unless those people are 'true' fans, buyers of you, your shows, your music. I find that people, today,  are too focused on social media numbers & not on 'normal business dealings'. Traditional methods must be applied. Invest in your 'career' just as you would by opening up any business. By invest I mean hire a publicist/PR person.

Does it take courage? YES. Because the true question to ask yourself is this, do I feel confident enough with my music, my talents to put money into the promotion engine? How much do you really want this?  If this is a hobby for you, invest nothing. If this is your  'calling', your 'life',  get ready to promote & on a long term basis, not on a one/two time promotion. It's a  big world out there. Our world has a home for all styles of music. The key is finding that outlet which many cannot do on their own. This is where a publicist comes in. Stay positive, think logically. Envision yourself already there. Build your TEAM.

RAY GIBSON RELEASES DEBUT EP OCTOBER 16

CANADIAN COUNTRY SINGER RAY GIBSON RELEASES DEBUT EP OCTOBER 16

Toronto, ON - Up and coming country singer, Ray Gibson will release her self-titled debut EP on iTunes October 16, 2015. The EP will top what has been a fantastic year for the young singer, whose debut single "In Your Kiss" was released to Canadian radio on September 14.

The six-track EP sees Gibson collaborating with several noted Nashville songwriters, including Frank Myers (Alabama, Reba, Lonestar), Kelsea Ballerini, Jeremy Stover (Emerson Drive, Justin Moore) and Jimmy Robbins (Florida Georgia Line, Keith Urban). Jeff Johnson, Jordan Oorebeek and Tom and Carly McKillip each produced tracks for the release and the result is an EP that delivers a diverse selection of songs, each highlighting Gibson's powerful voice and various musical influences.

"What a ride this project has been!! I'm so blessed to have worked with an incredible team of people during this journey leading up to my EP release; it was nothing short of amazing during the entire recording process," enthuses Gibson. "This EP covers all ranges of emotions and genres bordering country music right now. I'm so excited to finally release to the public what I've been working so hard on for the last year and a half. I hope you enjoy the new music and will continue to follow me on my music journey. My new survival kit? Spare guitar strings and coffee."

This year Gibson placed in the Top 6 of the CCMA Discovery Program and was selected as one of the Top 10 for the Boots and Hearts Emerging Artist Program. In both 2014 and 2015, Gibson was the first ballot nominee for the Female Vocalist of the Year Award by the British Columbia Country Music Association.

Gibson's interest in music began at the age of three, when she began to play songs by ear on the piano. At 15 she began to play the guitar, and once again found herself able to play with proficiency. Gibson first gained widespread attention over social media, by posting videos of herself singing. In 2013, her cover of Carrie Underwood's song "Good Girl" was re-posted by the country superstar. As Gibson's online presence began to draw more attention, she began to land performance opportunities alongside country musicians such as Aaron Pritchett, Tyler Ward and Wes Mack. She recently performed at an after-party for stars Florida Georgia Line in Kamloops, BC, at Boots and Hearts Festival and in Halifax during Country Music Week for the Discovery Showcase.

For Anderson, the single was born out of a sincere thankfulness for all the opportunities he’s been given to pursue his music.

“I’ve always loved the Lord and been very thankful He’s allowed me to do what I do. That’s a pretty good message for anybody, no matter whether they like the song or not,” said Anderson.

“Don’t Forget to Thank The Lord” is even more powerful when performed live. To see Anderson on tour across the United States, visit JohnAnderson.com for a complete list of upcoming tour dates.

Anderson released his new album, Goldmine, on May 26, which also marked his first album release in nine years.  Released on his own record label, Bayou Boys Music, the 13-track collection of original material features authentic lyrics and Anderson’s signature sound.  The award-winning and Hall of Fame songwriter wrote or co-wrote 12 of the album’s 13 tracks. The album is currently available on iTunes, Amazon, and other major digital retailers.

Raised in Apopka, Fla., John Anderson grew up listening to both rock and traditional country, with plenty of country gospel mixed in for good measure. In the end, Anderson chose to pursue his country music dreams, a decision for which all his fans are very grateful. Anderson is recognized as one of the greatest country singers to ever step up to the microphone, possessing one of the most instantly identifiable vocal instruments in the history of the genre.

Anderson got his start in 1977 when he signed with Warner Brothers Records.  He went on to have his first major hit in 1980 with Billy Joe Shaver’s, “I’m Just an Old Chunk of Coal (But I’m Gonna Be a Diamond Someday).” Other hits include the classic “Wild and Blue,” released in 1982, and “Swingin,” the No. 1 Billboard Country single co-written with Lionel Delmore that would lead Anderson to garner the CMA Horizon Award

Throughout his career, Anderson has produced 23 albums and released more than 60 singles (26 of which charted in the Top 10). He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame on October 5, 2014, and holds a wealth of industry awards including Academy of Country Music Career Achievement Award
