Step Up To Help Raise Money for Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital At Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, TN - August 17, 2015 – Multi-Platinum entertainer Dierks Bentley has announced that his 10th Annual "Miles & Music For Kids" celebrity motorcycle ride and concert, will kick off CMA Awards week on Sunday, Nov. 1 in Nashville, TN.  Over the course of the event’s history, Bentley has raised more than $3 million dollars for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals across the country. This year, he will be joined by an all-star concert lineup including Florida Georgia Line, Thomas Rhett, Cole Swindell, The Cadillac Three, Canaan Smith, Brooke Eden and emcee Storme Warren.

“When I think about all the artists and riders and fans who have come out to support this event over the years, I get a little emotional…there is just no way for me to possibly say thank you enough,” shares Bentley. “We started out at the fairgrounds and then moved out to the Loveless Café and then it grew so big we took it to Riverfront Park.  And now we've got the new Ascend Amphitheater locked down for this year.  We are going to do everything possible to make No. 10 the best yet!"

The 10th Anniversary celebration will once again begin at the Harley Davidson of Columbia (1616 Harley Davidson Blvd., Columbia, TN) for an hour-long ride that will end downtown at Nashville’s new Ascend Amphitheater to close out their inaugural season. Following the ride, Bentley will take the stage for a family-friendly day of music with a lineup that will continue to grow as the event approaches.

Dierks Bentley fan club members will have first access to presale tickets for the 10th annual "Miles & Music for Kids” this Tuesday (8/18) at 10:00A CT through www.ticketmaster.com. CD: JOHN CONLEE - Classics 2

JOHN CONLEE
Classics 2
Domestic Life - Stuff That Works - Walkin' Behind The Star - Hit The Ground Runnin' - A Lot Of Things Different - Mama's Rockin' Chair - Love In The Real World - Pocket Full of Crosses - Harmony - The In Crowd - Bread And Water - Sure

Before I got deeply involved in country music, during my college days I played a tenor-sax.  Jim Horn does that in this new CD by John Conlee.  I sort of dropped the sax to play 12-string guitar and harmonica in my efforts at keeping some of America's most beautiful rural music alive.  Jim is doing that too, another time element perhaps, but the sax sounds great on the opening song 'Domestic Life.'  Mr. Conlee is looking for the 'right' songs to record.  His very distinctive voice has placed him at the top of the charts many many times, and here he is, still as strong, still as vivid, still as 'country' as he's always been.  The messages in the songs he's recording is best represented in "Stuff That Works" which talks about blue shirts and boots.  Typical 'country' and in my words the 'rural' approach to music. He does it well.  I really like John's voice, I'm 79 years old and my hearing is beginning to fade, but I can understand every single word he is singing.  That's not always the case with some of Nashville's new-country, which I don't hardly recognize any 'connects' with rural music anymore.  John Conlee overcomes that quite easily, and uses his voice to make it understandable two ways, in the way he uses language and the way he uses confirmation of the words he sings.  Mr. Conlee was just about at our annual National Old Time Country Festival in LeMars, Iowa this year (2015), to be inducted into America's Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame, but a conflict of dates occurred so he didn't make it, but we are sure holding the door open for him in 2016. Rob Ickes (a super bluegrasser) plays Dobro on this session, oooooh so sweet it is.  Aubrey Haymie on fiddle keeps it country as does Mike Johnson on steel. Without these instruments in the swell of the music it really isn't country music anymore if they aren't present.  It could be labeled city music, or at best suburban music, but it's not country music.  John Conlee IS 'country music.'  I really like Dirk Johnson's keyboard accordion sound on "Hit The Ground Runnin" wow, that really takes it back to an early country sound, terrific.  And then on "Pocket Full of Crosses" his keyboard sounds like a huge Hammond Organ.  How neat is that?  Good song too, excellently written by Leslie Satcher.  I'd like to hear John record "Far Side Banks of Jordan" some time, his voice and the words are a perfect match.  Super super album Mr. Conlee, keep it up.  You might think you are an older man, however your spirit and your recognition of great musical words and works make you a pretty neat young guy.

CD: VANESSA KENASTON - Country Sunshine

VANESSA KENASTON
Country Sunshine
Till All These Dreams Come True - Tears Will Be The Chaser For Your Wine - Beneath Still Waters - You and Me - Paul's Ministry - Just As Long As You Love Me - Country Sunshine - Nothing But The Wheel - Born To Run - Never Grow Old - Cry Myself To Sleep - You're Looking At Country

It never ceases to amaze me how 'dance' among country music enthusiasts has evolved down through the ages.  Early rural dance consisted mostly of a kind of 'clog' dance, which eventually evolved into the man holding the woman in his arms, waltz's being the most predominant style.  Today dance enthusiasts still ask for, and get, that style of music.  Vanessa Kenaston is a long time proponent of this style of country music.  She's a real pro when it comes to 'getting the message across.'  Her incredibly lovely voice, and her full understanding of what those dancers (include among this group anyone who remembers what country music sounded like before the hip-hop-rock take over sounded like) wanted.  This CD is full of those wonderful songs that made people not only happy on the dance floor, but also made any fan of 'true' country music so happy to listen to, and still do.  Vanessa has a huge following, from the Sandhills of Nebraska to all of the upper Midwest, including Midwest Country Television Show on RFD-TV.  Super pickers on this project include her brother Roger who adds acoustic & electric lead guitar and Dobro.  Vanessa plays a terrific acoustic rhythm guitar, and she added the essence of 'real' country music by having Bruce Hoffman (Branson musician) play the fiddle, steel, and mandolin, making it a definitely 'real' session.  One of our favorite musicians Mark Jenkins added some harmony to the vocals, and Sharon Kenaston (Roger's wife) is on the upright bass and percussion, also adding harmony vocals.  Another well known western Nebraska picker, Jerry Porter picks his 'Chet Style' on several of the selections.  Vanessa has been a champion in keeping country music country, and her impeccable spirit and loyalty to the genre is very apparent in this CD.  Country Sunshine is a most accurate title, that is exactly what Vanessa is, and features the 'Chet style' picking of Jerry Porter.  Aside from her terrific music, she is still a rancher, raising cattle on a ranch that's been in the family for 135 years.  This was produced and mixed by the Kenastons in their own studio, who have a keen ear for this kind of music, and it was mastered by Will Shenk of National Media Services, keeping the mix and the strength up front all the way through

CD: RICHARD LYNCH - A Better Place

RICHARD LYNCH
A Better Place
Daddy's Radio - New Beginnings and Old Honkytonks - It's All In My Head - She's Got Me Drinking Again - Texas Front Porch Swing - Look Out Below - You're The Reason God Made Oklahoma - All By My Lonesome - Hold Your Horses - You Show Me Yours - I Like My Music Country - A Better Place

I was just about to the point where I'd never see or hear some decent country music from today's deliverers.  Then along comes an Ohio country music maker, Richard Lynch, who quite frankly is brilliant with this album.  The very first song proudly displays a little bit of music from Hank, Ernest, and more, as he introduces "Daddy's Radio." This is a super representation of good modern country music.  The steel is still there, and used most effectively, and again in "It's All In My Head."  This guy is real country, and so much more than the Keith Urban and others who insist that rock and roll should be the predominant sound of modern country.  It doesn't have to be at all, it just takes the music into a so-called new genre that isn't country at all, far from it.  Richard Lynch is able to keep his music in the vein of today's country music, but he keeps it country.  This music business is sometimes like panning for gold, hoping you might find a little kernel to keep it 'real.'  So far what Nashville has been producing for the last many years is devoid of gold.  But here, if they would just take a listen, they would find what the real 'evolvement' of the music should be sounding like, and not the hip-hop-rock-slop sound they have contaminated the genre with.  This album is truly named correctly, "A Better Place."  Certainly for traditional and classic, and even Highwayman style of country. Richard holds true throughout, and by the time we get to "You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma" with some help from David Frizzell & Stacy Houston, we're right back on track with some super sounding country music.  I think the drums were too far out front in the mix, UNLESS you are doing this as a 'dance' album, mostly because there's so many good musical sounds coming from the other instruments, and the too-loud drums distract from that, as well as the beautiful voices and lyrics we are listening to. Richard Lynch is simply brilliant, in "All By My Lonesome" he brings the everlasting 'fiddle' back to his music, and our listening pleasure.  The Nashville musicians, who can really play anything you want, must surely have enjoyed this terrific 'country' session.  I wish I could have had this album a little earlier to send to the Rural Roots Music Commission for this year's selections for CD of the Year.  Thank you Richard Lynch for a super nice listen.
