Thomas Rhett Tangled

The Sophomore Album Delivers A Rule-Bending Signature Thomas Rhett Sound

Nashville, TN – August 3, 2015 - Multi-PLATINUM selling Thomas Rhett spent his childhood listening to the sounds of the FM radio. He would regularly flip from one station to another, cranking up a mix of country, pop, R&B, rap, rock, and oldies. It was a tangle of music. Decades later, he's tipping his hat to those days with TANGLED UP (The Valory Music Co.) out Sept. 25, an album that mixes the sound of his influences with equal doses of groove, melody and twang.

"I didn't grow up listening to just one style of music," shares Thomas Rhett. "So, I don't know how to write just one style of music. Whether these songs have more of a pop influence or more of a hip-hop influence or a completely country influence, they all — in some crazy way — cohesively sound like a me song."

Produced by a combination of music’s most respected and fresh talent, the 13-track album is filled with party anthems, dance tunes, drinking songs, love ballads, and everything in between, all tied together by a dynamic singer who's unafraid to blur the lines between genres. The record was written across the country before and after shows, while Thomas Rhett’s body was still flushed with adrenaline.

"At our shows, there aren't any rules,” Thomas Rhett continues. "There's no such thing as standing still and just singing a song. I love jumping into the crowd. I love to dance. The whole show is very uptempo, high energy, and completely unpredictable.”

Maybe that’s why TANGLED UP feels like such an upbeat, energetic record. Its "retro, contemporary and edgy” (Billboard) first single "Crash And Burn” has already climbed into the Top 10 and earned GOLD certification long before the album's release.

CD: MARGIE LeBLANC - Live At The Opry

"Live At The Opry"
I'll Be There - Above & Beyond - Miles & Miles of Texas - Faded Love - Once A Day - Farewell Party - Don't Worry 'Bout Me - Always Have, Always Will - I Can't See Texas From Here - Heartaches By The Numbers - Stand By Your Man - Don't Touch Me - Clinging To A Saving Hand
The instant recognition of what Margie LeBlanc does with country music is the fact that she is in control.  She knows exactly what she wants to accomplish with her songs, and it doesn't take long for the backing musicians to understand this, thusly bringing her music exactly to the interpretation that she is making of it.  Just as soon as you hear her sing, you recognize instantly that she is steeped in the music known as 'country' long before it was plagiarized and turned into a kind of nothing music of today.  This CD is an instant return, as well as a tremendously enjoyable 'today' experience, listening to 'country' music as a very real genre of music.  This is very unlike so-called country music of today, which in the minds and ears of most real country music fans, is a very very pale imitation of what country music in the past was, and still is in the voice and determination of a country singer like Margie LeBlanc. This very nicely recorded CD was done 'live' at the Liberty Opry, down Liberty, Texas way, with some amazingly good 'real' country musicians. Why do I keep talking about 'real' country musicians.  It's simple, this is the music of choice for these players.  They aren't really concerned with playing anything and everything that comes down the pike, and then attach the name 'country' to something that is everything but that.  So that makes them honest, sincere, and simply very very good at what they do.  The same goes for Margie.  This combination is hard to beat, when you bring together good musicians with a tremendously good vocalist.  "Live' recordings are very difficult to do without a 'master' at the sound board, trying to match the front speakers with an equally good 'taped' sound. In some spots the drums are a bit loud, but on the whole, this is one of those rare recordings where everything melded together, not only with Margie, and the band, but also with the very appreciative listening audience.  Margie LeBlanc is making the trip to LeMars, Iowa, the first week of September (2015) to receive a "Lifetime Achievement" award from the National Traditional Country Music Assn. who has been doing this for 40 years now.  Her ceremony will take place on Sept. 4th at 8pm, and all are welcome to see this marvelous woman be honored for her many years of contributing to the 'real' sound of 'real' country music. I'm also interested in who the musicians are, not named on this CD, simply because they are the very heart of enhancing a truly gifted vocalist.

CD: PHIL NUSBAUM - The Dark Before The Storm

The Dark Before The Storm
The Dark Before The Storm - From Moville to Red Oak - Stumbling - Forever Yours - A Fine Day - Boys Of Wexford/Scotland The Brave/Come Dance And Sing - Limehouse Blues - Remembrance of You - Wind Chill - Blues For Shorty - In Your Face
This enchanting CD was recorded in a number of sessions utilizing the very obvious talent of a number of terrific acoustic musicians in Minnesota.  Standing out front of course is the '5-string banjo' of Phil Nusbaum, but he also used a trio of fiddlers on various songs that created an atmosphere of very different sounding banjo interpretations of various musical endeavors that 'matched' the additions of the fiddlers, as well as some super original banjo 'licks.'  Ron Siegel, Joe Davoli, and Gary Schulte provided the violin/fiddle additions throughout, and it made for a valid listening experience, quite a lot different than a typical 'bluegrass' music show, including some bluegrass of course but much more, even including a trip into very 'old-time' sounding music that isn't very bluegrass like at all, and certainly not heard very much anymore, so that alone made the musical adventure super fun to listen to.  I was hoping there might be lyrics to "From Moville to Red Oak" both Iowa towns of importance to me personally, instead it's a delightful interlude to the trickly little things the fingers can do on a five-stringed instrument not often found in melody lines like this.  Phil created this one, along with quite a few other numbers, some of them he wrote from snookering as they often call it in developing musical melody lines.  All of these numbers are super well done.  The first vocal number is an old Carl Perkins song "Forever Yours" which definitely took me back to the 'twenties' in style and vocal interpretation.  What fun this must have been to record.  Another interesting song is "Limehouse Blues" a roaring twenties style song, but on the 5-string rather than the 4-string tenor banjo.  This entire CD is  kick-back to what music was like in the past, and what it sounds like in the present, and will certainly extend into the future.  Phil Nusbaum, who does a lot of radio work for National Public Radio in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, is being recognized for his long tenure playing and promoting old-time music with a new twist, by being inducted into America's Old Time Music Hall of Fame this year at the 40th annual convention of the National Traditional Country Music Assn.  (August 31-Sept 6, LeMars, Iowa) on Thursday, Sept 3.  The last song on this album "In Your Face" uses a heavy bass line to do exactly that.  Thoroughly enjoyable, this album goes to the Rural Roots Music Commission, hopefully they'll still have time to consider it for honorarium this year, but I might be too late.

Kenny Chesney Breaks Pink Floyd’s Record

Kenny Chesney Breaks Pink Floyd’s Record
57,368 Fans at Arrowhead Stadium Topples Two Decade Old Number
Kansas City, Mo. (August 2, 2015) -- The traffic on I-70 was backed up for well over an hour going both directions. The parking lots were flooded as soon as they opened the gates. It should’ve been obvious before the tickets were tallied something special was going on; but for fans coming to Arrowhead Stadium for Kenny Chesney’s Big Revival, it seemed like it was the annual rite of summer for the No Shoes Nation.
But when the tickets were counted, Chesney had shattered Pink Floyd’s 1994 record of 56,134 with 57,368 in attendance. This year’s show marked Chesney fourth headlining stand at Arrowhead Stadium.
“I had no idea about the number when we took the stage,” Chesney marveled when he was told. “Pink Floyd are rock icons. Every kid’s high school experience… I never ever would've thought something like that could happen. We’ve been coming to Kansas City for years, and they’ve always been really loud audiences. But when we hit the stage, it felt like all those years, all those shows were added up into one – and that was what we were being hit with.”
Chesney, who attended practice with the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday, was clearly in the zone. Hailed by The Dallas Morning News as “Two parts Mick Jagger, one part Springsteen, one part Billy Graham,” the man who’s broken his own record at Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field, Green Bay’s Lambeau Field, Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field and Minneapolis’ Target Stadium for the third time recognized the night was special before he even hit the stage.

"I could hear the cheers when the intro film was running,” Chesney said. “It was so loud, I could barely hear the music – and from the very first second I was out there singing, the audience was electric! It felt like being at the bottom of a mountain, and an avalanche just kept rolling over you. The energy, the heart, the passion had that much force and it didn’t let up – not once all night."

The crowd took over on the songs-watermarking-life “I Go Back,” then came back with a deafening response to his 27th No. 1 “Wild Child.” They were also loud and proud on the long gone summer love “Anything But Mine” – and brought “American Kids” to a whole other threshold.

“Kansas City took ‘American Kids’ to a whole other place,” Chesney explained. “They made it their own. But they took over a bunch of the songs – and it was awesome. When you’ve played somewhere for several years, and the passion grows, that’s what you’re trying to create. It’s the best part of what we do up here. And man, Kansas City just leveled me. Every show we’ve ever played, all the way back, they hit us”
There are plenty more stadiums to come: Denver’s Sports Authority Stadium at Mile High Aug. 8, E. Rutherford, NJ’s Met Life Stadium Aug. 15, Detroit’s Ford Field Aug. 22 and a double at Foxboro’s Gillette Stadium Aug. 28-29. Those shows will take the only country act on Billboard’s Top 10 Touring Acts of the Last 25 Years to 135 stadium plays since 2005. Having taken a year to get ready for The Big Revival 2015 Tour, Chesney hit the road with a real passion – and the fans have absolutely reciprocated in kind.
