CD: THE KNIGHT FAMILY - Armed & Ready

THE KNIGHT FAMILY
Armed & Ready
Armed & Ready - Be Not Weary - When The King Comes Back - War With Life - Live in Me - Fourth Man First - At The Last
Trump - What Will you Do With Jesus - When I Think About Love - I Believe, Help My Unbelief

I and my wife Sheila record for the Smithsonian Institution, and our travels as old-time music entertainers take us on some magnificent adventures.  We were asked to perform some old-time rural gospel songs on the first Gospel Bash in Stewartville, Minnesota, and it was an experience to say the least.  One of the groups on the bill was a kind of bluegrass/country band called the Knight Family.  Adam Knight of that family writes and produces some of the most interesting gospel music I've heard in a long time.  This particular CD takes us on a musical journey containing some old time gospel, but also some 'new' gospel that directs us to the conditions we are living in today, examining the amazing things happening before our very eyes as the old planet earth continues to revolve, awaiting the return of the one Lord Jesus Christ to appear before His subjects. Adam expresses in his words exactly what is happening in the Christian world today.  We are in a battle.  That is obvious, and the 'battle' is good against evil.  Even though evil seems to be winning the battle today, the 'war' is far from over, and we all know how that is going to turn out.  We are reminded, on this CD, that we MUST hold our ground, our beliefs, our upbringing, our Christian teaching. We MUST try to save as many of our brethren as we can, we MUST abide by the Lord Jesus, and we MUST stand patiently, together and strongly.  Music is a way to do this, and in the case of the Knight Family, it is done amazingly well. They are very passionate about their messages, and the music that contains the messages.  All of the instrumentation on this CD is very very good, but it is the voices that bring the message to it's true destination, the minds of fellow Christians and even those that aren't so sure who they are what they are.  The 'power of the blood' is obvious in the mind and music of Adam Knight.  He is putting on the whole and entire armour of God as he enters his own battle field.  We not only approve and applaud him, we are standing behind him every step of the way.  We'll be sending this CD to the Rural Roots Music Commission to see if there is a "Gospel CD of the Year" award lingering somewhere in their selection process.

CD: ROGER KENASTON - Gospel Guitar

ROGER KENASTON
Gospel Guitar
Just a Closer Walk With Thee - When The Roll Is Called - Old Rugged Cross - I'll Fly Away - Softly and Tenderly - Uncloudy Day - It Is No Secret - Never Grow Old - Amazing Grace - In The Garden - What A Friend - How Great Thou Art

I just returned from the Wahoo, Nebraska, Country Music Festival, which by all standards in the music business today, is truly a very 'real' country music gathering.  It is produced and directed by Roger & Sharon Kenaston, pioneers of a sort who keep country music 'country.'  Their 'roots' go far back into the prairie known as the Sand Hills of Nebraska where their families homesteaded and claimed the land, and Roger the songs and music that made life more liveable and happier during those hard years of making the soil theirs.  Roger took up playing the guitar when he was just a boy, and now these many years later he is without a doubt one of the best guitarists in the entire upper Midwest.  He plays by ear, which means what he expresses using those six strings of an acoustic musical instrument, is what he feels in his mind, in his heart, in his hands and fingers.  His wife Sharon joins him on bass and rhythm guitar on this remarkable CD they recorded for Roger's mother Arvilla.  They performed some of the songs on this CD at their recent festival, and I noticed there was not a dry eye in the entire large audience that listened, including myself.  Roger is able to not only capture the 'power' of the melody line of these songs, he adds his own very real personality to the 'expression' of those melody lines.  His "How Great Thou Art" is without a doubt an incredibly moving piece of music.  I have to say, as I listen to this remarkable presentation, that Roger Kenaston has taken the simple and beautiful rural gospel songs of the past to a symphonic level similar to the more popular classical music of the ages.  Not only worth listening to, but well worth 'remembering' the wonderful rural traditions and musical heritage of our great prairie lands.  Today, with the contemporary-country music 'business'  obviously attempting to eliminate the 'real' country music of the great plains of America, this single CD will stand the test of time long after the demise of today's so-called 'country' music.  We are already arranging a special old-time gospel program featuring this gifted guitarist at the 'National Old Time Country Music Festival' in early September in LeMars, Iowa. This CD is also obviously going to the Rural Roots Music Commission.

NEW YORK, NY (June 29, 2015) The National Music Council which is set to honor music legends Kris Kristofferson, Charley Pride and Jim Lauderdale, along with music management icon Jim Halsey and country music producer/director Sherman Halsey during the 32nd Annual American Eagle Awards, has announced Rosanne Cash, The Oak Ridge Boys, John Oates and Jack Ingram to the stellar lineup of talent to help honor the honorees. The American Eagle Awards presentation will take place on July 11, 2015 at noon, during the annual NAMM convention in Nashville, Tennessee.

The National Music Council is celebrating its 75th year as a forum for the free discussion of this country’s national music affairs and challenges. Founded in 1940 to act as a clearinghouse for the joint opinion and decision of its members and to work to strengthen the importance of music in our life and culture, the Council’s initial membership of 13 has grown to almost 50 national music organizations, encompassing every important form of professional and commercial musical activity.

Through the cooperative work of its member organizations, the National Music Council promotes and supports music and music education as an integral part of the curricula in the schools of our nation, and in the lives of its citizens. The Council provides for the exchange of information and coordination of efforts among its member organizations and speaks with one voice for the music community whenever an authoritative expression of opinion is desirable.
