Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell: Two Friends With Their Second Duet Album "The Travelling Kind"

Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell: Two Friends With Their Second Duet Album "The Travelling Kind"

Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell's latest effort in the studio is made to sound effortless. The voices on "The Traveling Kind" are relaxed and convey tenderness; they are melancholy and powerful at the same time. There is a perfection in the production that shows that less is more - no more instruments than necessary and no less. It is a follow up from Grammy Award winning "Old Yellow Moon", their first duet album that was released in early 2013, although they have different producers: "Old Yellow Moon" was produced by Brian Ahern and "The Traveling Kind" by Joe Henry. The new duet album is starting where the first one left off because of this particular line in the title track "Old Yellow Moon" (which also is the last track on that album): "But still I'm making my way into the heart of an unknown highway", and then this new release of May 12, 2015 has the title track "The Traveling Kind" as its opening song.
Where this album travels is to blues-ish "Weight Of The World" and "Bring It On Home To Memphis", to bluegrass in "Just Pleasing You", country neostyle "If You Lived Here, You'd Be Home Now", the "Diamonds & Dirt"-feeling song "No Memories Hanging Round" and the Lucinda Williams "I Just Wanted To See You So Bad". All made with respect for both styles of the Americana singer/songwriters.

The two four decade long friends have voices that blend extremely well and "The Traveling Kind" is a very smooth listening experience with the ability to transfer you from emotional place to place with a smile - though journeying through the land of complexity - because it all ends with a dance of joy.

CD: The Kentucky Headhunters with Johnnie Johnson - MEET ME IN BLUESLAND

MEET ME IN BLUESLAND (Alligator Records)
The Kentucky Headhunters with Johnnie Johnson

CD review by Preshias Harris for Country Music News International

This is the album that almost got lost forever. But thanks to Alligator Records we can finally hear this amazing project that puts one of America’s most original and underrated bands together with the man that Rolling Stone called “the greatest sideman in rock and roll history.”

Back in January 2003, pianist Johnnie Johnson was booked to record a piano track for a song to be included in “Soul,” an album being recorded by the Headhunters, but he almost didn’t make it. The previous evening, he’d been in Houston, joining the Rolling Stones onstage to play ‘Honky Tonk Women’ and only just managed to catch the plane to Kentucky.

The Headhunters had long admired Johnson whose piano playing can be heard on virtually all of Chuck Berry’s hit records. They got to meet him at a Grammy party in 1992 and formed an instant and lasting friendship. They later recorded an album together, “That’ll Work” (Nonesuch Records), and frequently appeared on stage together.

When they reunited in the studio in 2003, something magical happened, and they all found themselves jamming, improvising and creating music that went far beyond the confines of the original intention for “Soul.” They had created an amazing and completely original set of songs, but the label had all they needed for “Soul” and the eclectic Headhunter/Johnson tracks were put aside and all but forgotten. Until now.

Meet Me in Bluesland” presents arguably some of the best work the Headhunters have ever done. The band and Johnson create magic together, as if the piano virtuoso had been their keyboard player since the get-go.

Johnson and the Headhunters collaboratively wrote all of the tracks together with the exception of the Chuck Berry classic, “Little Queenie,” in which Johnson can finally play it the way HE wanted to!

The entire album has the feel of a non-stop jam session with everyone having a great time, never wanting it to end. This was to be the last time they recorded together as Johnson passed away in 2005. But we have this superb set that serves as a fitting memorial to Johnson and a showcase for the Headhunters, a driving mix of southern roots rock, blues and R&B.

There’s not a dud on the album, but standout tracks include “Stumblin’,” “Party in Heaven,” the hard-driving instrumental “Fast Train,” and the title track, “Meet Me in Bluesland.”

Duo Set to Play the Bud Light Plaza Stage at CMA Music Fest June 14
“Outlaw In Me” Tour Continues Through the Summer with More Dates Added

Nashville, TN (June 3, 2015) – Debuting at #3 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart with their fourth studio album, Outlaw In Me, Average Joes Entertainment/Backroad Records’ hit country duo, The LACS, are on fire. The duo has been fanning the flames with a record-breaking tour that will include a performance at CMA Music Festival June 14 on the Bud Light Plaza Stage at 2:45 pm. Outlaw In Me is available for download here.
"On Outlaw In Me, not only do The LACS stretch their artistry to include more sounds outside of the infused country and southern hip-hop realms, but their lyrics courageously go beyond the country boy and muddin’ cultural norms as the duo rhyme about their southern upbringing, their views of the world and their ideas about life. With the mud off, we finally see The LACS for who they are and at their most honest, a fairly outlaw concept in this day and age, and as a result, they’re at their best yet." – Bear Frazier, Arena.com
"The LACS’ Outlaw In Me is the work of an act that is able to grow their artistry while remaining true to the core music their audience craves." – Matt Bjorke, Roughstock.com

KIP MOORE COMEBACK

KIP MOORE LAUNCHES “COMEBACK KID
SKATEPARK PROJECT" TO BENEFIT INNER CITY YOUTH

Phase One Skateparks Planned for Nashville, Boston,
San Marcos, and Annapolis
Nashville, TN - June 3, 2015 - MULTI-PLATINUM artist Kip Moore announced plans for his “Comeback Kid Skatepark Project,” a charitable initiative that will oversee the construction of a series of skateparks to benefit communities and “comeback kids."  At a press conference today, Moore along with Mayor Karl Dean and Salemtown Board Co, revealed the phase one cities of the project including Nashville, TN; Boston, MA; San Marcos, TX; and Annapolis, MD.  The inspiration for the name of the project comes from “Comeback Kid,” a personal anthem from Moore’s upcoming album WILD ONES.
“What started off as a pipe dream of mine years ago, has truly become a passion project,” said Moore. “It came from me wanting to give kids in inner cities a safe outlet, where they can form the bonds I know can be made from having somewhere awesome to go and be a part of something they enjoy. I wrote the song 'Comeback Kid' at a time when I felt like a comeback kid, but now when I sing it I think less about myself and more about the kids we are doing this for and how much I admire and respect them.  We're starting with these four cities, but the plan is to keep growing this as far and wide as we can.”

Each park will have a unique design to provide the perfect first step for anyone of any age to learn how to skate. Making the most of the size and space available, most skate spots will range from 1,500 to 3,000 square feet and will include elements such as quarter pipe, bank-to-curb, hubba ledges, hand rail and step up.  Most of the phase one skateparks will be up and running by this Fall.

The "Comback Kid Skatepark Project" is the first initiative of "Kip's Kids Fund," a donor-advised fund through The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee (CFMT) focused on youth and teens.  As an avid rock climber, surfer, skateboarder and outdoor enthusiast, Moore has been drawn to the outdoors and alternative sports for much of his life.  He also has a heart for small town and inner city kids growing up with too few options.  As a result, the "Kip's Kid Fund" provides alternative outlets for youth to engage in healthy habits and physical activities like skateboarding, in addition to the traditional sports offerings where they live.
