Ralph Stanley is not only an American treasure, but an international Icon.

KELSEA BALLERINI MAKES SWEET GRAND OLE OPRY DEBUT

KELSEA BALLERINI MAKES SWEET GRAND OLE OPRY DEBUT

Nashville, Tenn. (February 15, 2015) – Black River Entertainment recording artist Kelsea Ballerini made her Grand Ole Opry debut last night on Valentine's Day. Following the performance of her top 30 single "Love Me Like You Mean It," the Knoxville native choked up before performing her solo write, The First Time, announcing it is also the title track of her debut album due May 19.

"I wr
ote this song a long time ago about learning the lesson that sometimes the past should stay in the past,” said Kelsea. “I never thought I'd be so thankful for that experience and that I'd be playing it at the Grand Ole Opry! My album The First Time is named after this song and it's coming out on May 19. I've been dying to tell people this!"

The first time Kelsea heard she'd be making her debut at the Grand Ole Opry came as an unexpected surprise from country music superstars Lady Antebellum. Caught on video here, the trio broke the news to Kelsea on the ACCA red carpet as she was interviewing them as a special correspondent for Radio Disney

Newly named one of CMT's "Next Women of Country," songwriting is cornerstone in Kelsea’s composition as an artist. Kelsea’s songwriting is on full display throughout the upcoming album as she’s writer on every track found on The First Time.

Black River Entertainment’s Vice President of A&R Doug Johnson is confident in Kelsea’s future as an artist.  “Kelsea Ballerini is the most naturally talented writer/artist I have ever known. She was born to do this,” said Johnson.
Produced by Black River Publishing's songwriter/publisher Forest Glen Whitehead along with Jason Massey The First Time contains all of the tracks from the previously released digital EP and seven additional original tracks.
Kelsea’s current single “Love Me Like You Mean It” (Ballerini/Kerr/Whitehead/Carpenter) is climbing the country radio charts, selling more than 5,500 unites per week and has landed her on several ones to watch lists for 2015 including Billboard, Country Weekly, The Huffington Post, CBS Local’s Radio.com, Spotify, #CMChat, Country Music Is Love  and more.

Do You Wanna Be Hannah Bethel Man?

You Wanna Be My Man Reveals a Bold and Sassy Side to Country Artist Hannah Bethel

Vibrant country artist Hannah Bethel brings a whole lot of sass to country radio with the release of her single, You Wanna Be My Man, off her newest album Never Ending Sky. This upbeat, playful song is impacting radio and is on the newest CDX #612, which was just shipped.
This latest release has a sexy, pop-country vibe that stands out from Hannah’s previous folk roots. “I wrote this song with David Myhre a week before we went into the studio to record for Never Ending Sky,” says Hannah. “I loved the song immediately and knew I wanted to include it on the album.”
After her previous releases, No Where Left to Roam, Medicine and If I Don’t Love You Anymore, she has received great praise from radio and industry critics. Digital Rodeo said “Sometimes you just know, by the very first notes delivered, that an artist has that special sound and presence that stands out among so many others. Hannah was born to share her light through music.” MAVERICK said “Hannah shows that she has the vocal chops and writing talent to make it in country music.”
Never Ending Sky includes 8 songs which were written/co-written by Hannah and features top-notch musicians on the record including Adam Ollendorff (Kacey Musgrave’s pedal steel player) and Tim Horsley (played drums with Keith Urban, Gary Allen, Jamie O’Neal, etc). Finding a different creative outlet with this new project, she incorporates a mix of new and old sounds and styles from an array of musical icons, along with her own unique touch. She brings an organic taste to her eclectic approach to country music. Her influences include Fleetwood Mac, Miranda Lambert, and Willie Nelson.
Hailing from Northern Michigan, Hannah has spent the last year touring the United States, performing shows from Alaska to New Jersey and everywhere in between. She has shared the stage with such artists as Frankie Ballard, Canaan Smith, Charlie Worsham, Joe Nichols, Rodney Atkins, Trisha Yearwood and Buddy Jewell. Hannah was named one of CMA’s Who New to Watch in 2014.

CD: DON JOY - Train Keeps A Rollin'

DON JOY
Train Keeps A Rollin'
Bring Her Back From Mexico - Light Of My Life - Not That Good At Saying Goodbye - Our Love Memories - Why Not Let Her Go - Wedding Bells - I'm Still In Love With You - Train Keeps A Rollin'

You might remember that I recently reviewed an album by Don Joy and Melanie Lynn, and was quite impressed with this farmer from Missouri who writes such good 'love' songs.  This particular album is one of his older works that he done on his own.  All of the songs are his own compositions, and all of them are, again, love songs.  He's got a very interesting approach to love, love lost, love won.  Don has a unique way of rhyming his words in such a way that the 'story' of each song he writes, is magnified simply by doing that.  "She kissed me goodbye, as she got on the train, as the tears slowly overfilled my eyes.  You know that I love you, and I'm sorry for the pain."  See how he managed to get 'train' and 'pain' in one paragraph that makes a small story in itself.  This is the work of a great 'real' country music songwriter.  Great musicians 'feeling' Don's original music at the session too.  I think he records in Arkansas somewhere, but not sure about this project.  Terry Scarberry on guitar; Steve Short on drums; Mike Myers on bass (no not that Mike Myers); Don Johnson on keyboard (no not that Don Johnson); Greg Letlow on fiddle; and Johnnie Helms on steel.  All of the musicians seem to 'feel' Don's songwriting abilities, and my guess is they grasp the 'feeling' they want to get early on.  We'll be definitely be looking forward to having Don Joy at the LeMars Festival, and who knows, maybe Melanie Lynn will join him.  I like the 'title' track best of all "Train Keeps A Rollin" it's fast moving, it's old time rail road, it's a great song, would even do good as a bluegrass tune, for sure.  All of Don's graphics are great too.  He know's what he wants, and he's determined to make it happen.  I have a feeling this guy is going to find a very substantial outlet for his music, it's just the right person at the right time waiting to happen.

CD: SHERWIN LINTON - Thank You For Serving

SHERWIN LINTON
Thank You For Serving
The Marine Hymn (to the tune of Ghost Riders) - There's a Star Spangled Banner Waving Somewhere - The Battle of New Orleans - She Wears A Yellow Ribbon - Don't Sit Under The Apple Tree - Thank You For Serving - Ballad of the Alamo (Pam Linton) - Yellow Rose of Texas - Ragged Old Flag - Stars and Stripes Over Iwo Jima - Fraulein - You Are My Sunshine - Have I Told You Lately That I Love You - Vaya Con Dios - (with Pam Linton) - They're Bringing Johnny Home Today - Do You Remember These - A Soldier's Visit From Santa - Thank You For Serving - God Bless America (Pam Linton) - Coming To America/My Country Tis' of Thee

Maybe for starters one might not think the 'Marine Hymn' sung to the tune of 'Ghost Riders In The Sky' would work?  Wow, but it does, super good.  Sherwin Linton has a deep beautiful baritone voice and when he puts his gifted music aura and dedication behind it, it's quite a wonderful experience to hear him sing in this very dedicated way.  This whole album is chock full of great 'memory' songs, an obviously genuine desire on Sherwin's part to 'remember' not only the old songs dedicated to our military, but also to reflect his own very strong desire to "Thank You For Serving" to every military person in the USA, which he wrote himself at the suggestion of a high school classmate some 17 years ago.  Sherwin didn't actually serve in the military.  He almost did, when he and twenty classmates from Watertown, South Dakota High School had plans to join the United States Marines.  Sherwin passed up the military to pursue his music career, and has been very devout ever since playing military songs, doing military salutes, and honoring the military at every opportunity.  I spent four years in the Navy, and wouldn't turn it down for anything.  It even led me to eventually recording for the Smithsonian Institution where Sheila and I have spent nearly three years researching our latest project for them called the 'Traveling Museum of Music.'  We, like Sherwin, have huge thanks and appreciation for our military, at every turn, at every opportunity.  This CD of Sherwin's is actually a compilation of songs he has recorded over the years,  some of them with old-time instruments like the banjo and autoharp, and some of them in the Johnny Cash style which Sherwin does so well.  It's a real trip back in time, visiting some old country tunes we don't hear anymore.  It's also a singular tribute to those of us who spent time in the military, and it's greatly appreciated.  The 'thank you's' weren't very frequent at the end of the Viet Nam war, but the military does get a lot of appreciation these days as we look forward to more unrest and war on the horizon.  It's our freedoms that the military has established for all of us, and Sherwin Linton takes a minute out of his busy musical career to thank each and every one of us.  There's 20 great songs on this compilation, 20 great songs to bring back some incredible memories.  The final mix is great, especially when it can be difficult to 'match' songs from different recording sessions.  And, it takes awhile to listen to all of them.  I can't really 'pick' a favorite out of this smorgasbord of really good music, so it's a winner all the way around.
