Internationaler Country Music Award 14. – 16.11.2014 in der Pullman City

Internationaler Country Music Award

Solo: 1. Juke West
2. Jeffrey Backus
3. Mooses
Duo: 1. Soulfire
2. Backus & Cole
3. Unplucked
Trio: 1. Jolly Price
2. Zack Dust
3. CHAN
New Country: 1. Real American Country Revival (CZ)
2. Loose Moose Band
3. Pete Stone Band (GB/D)
Country Rock: 1. Old Johnny's Crew
2. Riffmen 'n' Groove
3.
Linda Lou (Italien)
Traditional: 1. Willie Jones Band (USA/SK)
2. Poa Pratensis (Ungarn)
3.
Hee Haw Pickin' Band
Newcomer: 1. Soulfire
2. Old Johnny's Crew
Best Songs: 1. Soulfire
Schade.

ANGIE SENGER - Country Style

ANGIE SENGER
Country Style
Satin Sheets - Storms Never Last - Truck Drivers Dream - Don't Be Angry - High-Test Woman - I Need Somebody Bad - You're Lookin' At Country - Dim Lights, Thick Smoke - The Rodeo Came To Town - Just For Tonight - Red Hat Salute

This Minnesota country singer is in fine form on this particular CD "Country Style."  Country style it is, no doubt about that. Angie has a very nice voice, and she knows how to use it.  After listening to all the songs on this particular CD, I was wondering why, as the lyrics so plainly indicate, why she is constantly looking for a man, but when she finds one, she leaves him for someone more satisfying.  Oh well, that's the stuff of country songs, not real life.  Whoa, wait a minute, that's not quite right.  Everything is set straight in the very wonderful song written by Jessi Colter, "Storms Never Last."  Angie is a fine musician too, performing on acoustic guitar; bass; mandolin; plus the lead and harmony vocals.  Recorded at What's Hennepin Studio in Cedar, Minnesota, I like the mix.  Tom Kesanen plays harmonica throughout this project, and adds 'just-right' drop ins at the right places.  Joe Chock is very audibly present with steel and Dobro.  I think I like him best on Dobro, it blends so well with the harmonica, and somehow makes the entire presentation more authentically country.  Angie has a very nice vibrato in her voice, and knows how to use it to embellish a good song.  Angie is also a very proficient songwriter.  Five songs are hers, and some second verses composed by Angie in other songs.  My favorite is "Red Hat Salute" written to Hank Snow's melody of "Movin' On," about those wonderful elderly ladies that travel around wearing red hats and having fun.  Come and see us Red Hats, we guarantee you'll have a good time.  This CD is one of Angie's older projects, but it still holds true to what country music is all about.  Highly recommended for a good-time listen.

IAN HANDS & ZETA BURNS - Rolling Along Queensland Country Style

IAN HANDS & ZETA BURNS
Rolling Along Queensland Country Style
Australia - Blazin' The Trail - I'm Movin' On - Golden Pathway - Answer To Geisha Girl - Folsom Prison Blues - Beautiful Island - They Don't Play Country Music At The Opry Anymore - You're Lookin' At Country - Goodbye Danny Darling - King Of The Brumbies - My Broken Heart - Lights On The Hill - The City Bushman - The Sunshine Mail - Nightingale Yodel - Mount Isa - Answer To Where The Yellow Roses Bloom - Rollin' Along - They Don't Make Them Like My Daddy Anymore - Just Le Me Sing And Yodel

Crikeys, I just love the way the Australians keep country music country.  This has got to be one of the best 'real' country albums I've ever heard from down under.  Zeta Burns doesn't only have a stunningly beautiful country voice, she is a very accomplished songwriter.  First song out of the chute is a lovely tribute to her homeland.  Ian Hands is also one terrific singer, but more than that, he can yodel like no one I've ever heard in that particular style.  AND he also can do some of the standards like "Movin' On" and make it sound real.  I also like Don Brose who adds some interesting songs on this CD.  I have never heard anyone but Sharon Kenaston (Nebraska) do Jerry Chesnut's song "They don't Make Them Like My Daddy Anymore" and do it so well, but Don Brose does a nice job with this absolutely great song.  It's Zeta Burns lovely country voice that really steals the heart away however.  What's even more incredible, though she sounds about 30, this wonderful lady is over 83 years old.  Much of the backing music was provided by Graeme Jensen who played lead; bass; rhythm; mouth organ; mandolin; accordion; and sang harmony.  Candice Patrick added the fiddle tracks.  Ian and Zeta have had an interesting career doing old-style country music, as has Don Brose, and I would certainly use my Executive Privilege to nominate this trio into our America's Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame.  If they can get to us from Australia is another story, we'll see. This is a very impressive CD, especially to someone who likes their country music to be country.  Zeta wrote a very defining song "They Don't Play Country Music At The Opry Anymore," and says it as well, or better, than most of the folks who feel the same way about how far removed today's so-called country music is from it's roots.  Come to Iowa you three wonderful troubadours, and we'll make you feel right at home.

ALBUM RELEASE

In conjunction with our baron of baritone legend taking his much earned and deserved place in music history, IN THE  "BCMA" Music Hall of Fame" on November 23, 2014 , STU STEVENS has arranged the songs on this album in tribute to the visible backbone of livelihood... the WORKING FORCE of men and women of the world.   After more than six decades of writing and singing some of the worlds "best of songs" ... Stu is still turning them out as rich and strong as ever. Dubbed "the voice" by deejays and fans alike since the 1960s, Stu Stevens keeps proving that indeed he is unmatched by contemporaries in any genre' of today's music sounds. Retired more than thirty years out of the regular music scene, and one fan recently described Stu as still having that deep, velvet "chocolate" voice.  "The voice" is still in demand from all parts of the world.
