Full of Trouble’ for Country Music

Laura McCormick Opens Pandora’s ‘Box Full of Trouble’ for Country Music’s Boundaries

2014 has been a pivotal year for country artist Laura McCormick who recently gave up her successful career as an ICU nurse to pursue her true passion, music. Going from band aids to band rehearsals, McCormick has been hard at work on her debut album Box Full of Trouble, which is available today on iTunes, Amazon and other online retailers.
This gutsy Tullahoma, TN native has seen her risky move pay off. McCormick’s music video for her current single, “Feel the Fire,” is currently airing on ZUUS Country and Great American Country online. Box Full of Trouble, which showcases McCormick’s powerful set of pipes, southern rock spunk and heartfelt lyrics, is proving to be ‘trouble’ for country music’s leading ladies of today, who are now faced with some fierce competition.

"I grew up loving country music but have always had rock and roll in my soul,” says the Southern spitfire. “I always knew music was what I was meant to do and I’m so excited to finally be living my dream.”
What makes this tunesmith’s debut release even more impressive is the fact that she co-produced and co-wrote all 8 songs on the album. From party girl, whiskey-drinkin’ anthems to soulful songs about heartbreak and vulnerability, this album is a profound display of McCormick’s songwriting skills. Songs like “Feel the Fire” and “Tuff Chick” show off Laura’s classic rock influences whereas tracks like “One” and “I’m Gonna Break Your Heart” display her earthy folk-infused vocals.
“It’s just so surreal to even think that I have my own album! I’m extremely grateful to finally share my music with the world,” says Laura.
With years of performing under her belt and an infectious and passionate personality, it is clear that Laura McCormick is ready to take the industry by storm. Providing audiences with a much needed dose of feminine edge, Box Full of Trouble has introduced a fresh face to country music’s female roster.

The Cains Trio To Release Debut Album, Stay On Board

The Cains Trio To Release Debut Album, Stay On Board

Album Available on iTunes, Amazon and Other Major Digital Retailers on Oct. 28

(Nashville, Tenn. – Oct. 7, 2014) – Up-and-coming sibling group, The Cains Trio, will release their debut album, Stay On Board, on Oct. 28, with an iTunes pre-sale beginning on Oct. 10. Stay On Board will be released through DayStreet Records/GMV Nashville. The album follows the group’s release of their current single, “Be Yourself With Me,” to Country radio, which recently garnered the group MusicRow Magazine’s prestigious DisCovery Award.

Award-winning songwriter Ed Hill commented about the group, “The Cains are the most exciting group I’ve ever worked with. This dynamic trio is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to raw talent - unusually interesting harmonies, contagious energy and addictive songs. I believe they’ll play an important role in pioneering positive change in today’s quality of country music, attracting and impacting listeners and fans of all ages.”

The emerging group has already achieved success in their home state of Alabama and has garnered a solid fan base by performing shows at music venues across the state. While all three were students at Troy University, the trio entered into a video contest, eventually winning the opportunity to open for Dave Barnes at WorkPlay in Birmingham, Ala. They have also opened for Andrew Ripp and share co-writes with Ed Hill, Billy Lawson and Roger Murrah.

Of the new album, the trio’s Madison Cain commented, “The album (Stay On Board) is an accumulation of years of writing and singing together, and we can’t wait to introduce it to our fans. We feel as if our debut single, “Be Yourself With Me,) truly represents the trio perfectly, and we’re looking forward to sharing more of our musical labors of love with our fans and radio as we dive into this journey!”

In addition to their new album release, The Cains are currently honing their songwriting and recording skills by collaborating with established songwriters in both Nashville and Muscle Shoals. Besides drawing from their own DNA, their original music is inspired by a vast combination of genres from country, soul and pop to Americana, folk and contemporary Christian. Even with a wide variety of influences, they know exactly what they want in their music.

“Our hope is to brand ourselves as fun music,” says Logan Cain. “No matter the song or genre, we want our songs to be uplifting, joy-filled and fun.”

The group’s current single, “Be Yourself With Me,” is a mid-tempo, tenderhearted tune about allowing loved ones to take their guard down and be open and honest with one another. To hear the single, visit the group's SoundCloud at www.SoundCloud.com/TheCainsTrio, or, click here. The group has also released a music video for the single, which can be viewed on their YouTube page at www.YouTube.com/user/TheCainsTrio, or, click here

Drunk Americans

Toby Keith's New Single Raises A Glass To "Drunk Americans"
Celebratory Track At Radio And Retail On Oct. 14

(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) Singer, songwriter and entertainer Toby Keith is making a splash with brand new music timed to wet the whistle of fans with his latest track "Drunk Americans," which releases to country radio and will also be available everywhere for digital download on October 14.

Written by Brandy Clark, Bob DiPiero and Shane McAnally, the song celebrates those communal moments when glasses go up and the barriers that separate us all come down. "We ain't east, we ain't west. We ain't left, we ain't right. Ain't black, we ain't white ... we just came here to drink," Keith sings as the tune opens, cheering the folks who "all sing it wrong ... but we all sing along."

Also today (10/6), the #DrunkAmericans Challenge launched on tobykeith.com. Over the next four weeks, fans can enter multiple times
by completing tasks such as sharing a tailgate photo on Instagram, tweeting their favorite lyric from the song and listening to "Drunk Americans." Prizing includes a custom Toby Keith beer pong table, cornhole boards, Yeti cooler and a tailgating tent.

Like his unparalleled catalog of chart-topping music, Toby's new single will fuel a powerful machine that includes acclaimed albums, standing-room-only tours (such as his ongoing Shut Up And Hold On Tour Presented by Ford F-Series) and extended business ventures such as his Wild Shot Mezcal. But such successes pale next to Toby's passion for helping children through his foundation and his tireless work in support of America's fighting men and women.

To that end, last week Keith helped honor combat wounded veteran Damian Schuyler at his Camden, NJ show. Sergeant Schuyler's military retirement is pending following combat related injuries sustained in Afghanistan and Iraq. He was brought onstage during the show to receive a mortgage-free home courtesy of Project Rebuild, Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, Wells Fargo and the Military Warriors Support Foundation.

Marty Stuart Celebrates Two Sides of Country

Marty Stuart Celebrates Two Sides of Country

On Sept. 30, Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives released Saturday Night & Sunday Morning, an ambitious exploration of the age-old Country Music drama between hardcore living and heartfelt apologia, between Saturday night sinning and Sunday morning spirituality, through 23 songs that blend Stuart originals, covers and new as well as traditional hymns.

“I’ve been living with and through this record for over eight years now,” Stuart said. “I’d get close and say, ‘That’s not it,’ and pull back. We’d try something else and go, ‘No, that’s not it.’ Three, four, five years went by, but it just wasn’t right. It wasn’t truly authentic.”
Authenticity is a word Stuart uses a lot when talking about Country Music. Not surprisingly, narrowing down the final song choices and arrangements wasn’t easy. “But it finally just clicked. One day, I just laid it all out, and it was like a string of pearls. I said, ‘There it is.’ It finally felt right.”
“Country Music and gospel music share such a unique relationship,” Stuart continued. “I’ve always loved them both since I was a kid growing up in Mississippi. It goes all the way back to Hank Williams, the biggest rounder, or Johnny (Cash) or Willie (Nelson) or Merle (Haggard) or myself, all of us standing out raising Cain. But then at some point, we say, ‘Friends, we’d like to do you a gospel song.’ The whole mood shifts. Country audiences love it, because it’s part of them.”
Stuart credits his band — bassist/steel guitarist Paul Martin, drummer Harry Stinson and guitarist Kenny Vaughan — with being the creative catalyst for Saturday Night & Sunday Morning. “I wouldn’t have been able to do this album if it weren’t for them,” he stated. “When I put the Superlatives together 12 years ago, the way we learned to sing and learn about each other was by way of black gospel and bluegrass gospel music. Everyone brought their favorite denomination of gospel music, and we’d sit in dressing rooms and drive up and down the road in buses, singing gospel songs. Then we started writing our own gospel songs. And when my television show came along (“The Marty Stuart Show,” aired Saturday nights on RFD-TV), we needed a gospel song for each show, so it just became a part of who we are musically.”
Stinson, the Superlative drummer and high harmony vocalist, ventured that the debauchery/devotion theme of Saturday Night & Sunday Morning reaches beyond Country audiences. “People have 9-to-5 jobs, go to work every week, come home on Friday and blow off steam Saturday night,” he noted. “On Sunday morning, they’re right back in church. You don’t have to listen to Country Music or be a fan to identify.”
The double album includes familiar favorites, including “I’m Blue, I’m Lonesome” (co-written by Bill Monroe and Hank Williams), “Old Old House” (Hal Bynum and George Jones) and Pops Staples’ “Uncloudy Day,” which features daughter Mavis Staples and Stuart playing her late father’s Fender Telecaster — a gift from the Staples family. But fully 16 of the tracks were written by Stuart. The closing track, “Heaven,” was penned by Stuart and his bandmates and recorded with all four Superlatives singing live around a single microphone. It’s not a process seen often these days, but it reflects Stuart’s belief that the past has a lot to offer.
“There was a moment when we were recording ‘Heaven,’” he summed up. “I looked at all of us around the microphone, and I remember thinking that in my wildest dreams, I never thought I’d be singing this kind of music. It really stretched me. I think at the end of the day, that’s what I was looking for with this record. It speaks to who I am and how I’d like to be remembered.”
