The Steep Canyon Rangers Celebrate IBMA Awards

The Steep Canyon Rangers Celebrate IBMA Awards Nomination for instrumental recorded performance of the year for "graveyard fields"
Former 2011 Entertainers of the Year will also perform at
IBMA’s Wide Open Bluegrass Festival, Oct. 3 in Raleigh, NC

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (August 14, 2014) — Nominees for the 2014 International Bluegrass Music Awards were announced yesterday at a press conference at The Factory at Franklin and the Steep Canyon Rangers have been honored with a nomination for the 2014 Instrumental Recorded Performance of the Year for "Graveyard Fields," off their latest album Tell The Ones I Love. Known as bluegrass music’s biggest night of the year, the International Bluegrass Music Awards acknowledges the year’s outstanding talent and achievements, honors new Hall of Fame inductees, and waves the worldwide flag for bluegrass music.
Heralding a new era of bluegrass with both their artistic contributions and the unwavering dedication that they invest into every performance and recording, the 2011 IBMA Entertainers of the Year have previously been awarded with IBMA’s Emerging Artist of the Year in 2006 and Best Album Artwork in 2012 for their GRAMMY Award-winning bluegrass album, Nobody Knows You.
"Graveyard Fields" written by Mike Guggino and produced by Larry Campbell (Bob Dylan, Levon Helm) was recorded at the famed Levon Helms Studio in Woodstock, NY last fall. The band wanted Tell The Ones I Love to reflect the spirit of their live concerts—an original, freewheeling, high-energy approach to bluegrass so they recorded the album almost entirely live, using few overdubs. Guggino's instrumental "Graveyard Fields" is a bluegrass tour de force. Guggino says, "I'm honored to have 'Graveyard Fields' nominated alongside songs written by so many of my bluegrass heroes. Since my early years as a mandolin player I've always been inspired to write instrumental music. I'm grateful to my bandmates for helping make these songs come to life!"
The Steep Canyon Rangers – Woody Platt (lead singer/guitar), Mike Guggino (mandolin), Charles Humphrey III (bass), Nicky Sanders (fiddle), Graham Sharp (banjo), and Mike Ashworth (percussion) – will also be performing at the Wide Open Bluegrass Festival on Oct. 3 following the 25th annual International Bluegrass Music Awards on Oct. 2 in Raleigh, NC.
Formed a decade ago during their college days at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Steep Canyon Rangers ongoing commitment to roots music has only deepened with time. Their recordings and performances are marked by fierce instrumental prowess, soaring harmonies and deeply moving original songwriting and harmonies, which infuse traditional bluegrass with a uniquely contemporary perspective. They continue to perform bluegrass to a larger audience than any other group in the genre, introducing more and more listeners to roots music instrumentation and the rich history of bluegrass, thanks in part to their collaboration with entertainment icon, Steve Martin.
Winners will be announced during the 25th Annual IBMA Awards, hosted by renowned artists Lee Ann Womack and Jerry Douglas, on Oct. 2, 2014 at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts in Raleigh, NC.

Al Brake Releases New Single Hot Pink Lady!

Canadian Country Artist Al Brake Releases New Single Hot Pink Lady!

Canadian country artist, Al Brake, recently released his new single “Hot Pink Lady” from his self titled album. Al’s album was produced by industry great, Bob Bullock who has worked with country legends such as Shania Twain, Reba McEntire and George Strait. This song brings you back to the carefree roots of traditional country. You can hear the unmistakable influences of Kenny Chesney, Doc Walker, Tim McGraw and Uncle Kracker that all had a hand in shaping Al’s very own unique style.
"I'm excited about Al Brakes new release "Hot Pink Lady" in the U.S. Al has been getting a lot of attention in his homeland (Canada) with his fresh brand of songs, and it is great to see him breaking into this Market. I have really enjoyed working with Al on this project and look forward to his music getting out to a larger audience"- Bob Bullock
In April of this year, Al won the Indie Music Channel’s award for Best Country Band. He also received two awards from IMC in 2013 for Best Country Producer and Best Country Recording for songs from his self titled Album.
Born the 11th of 11 children (8 Boys 3 Girls), Al started playing guitar around the age of 8. He observed all of his brothers and sisters playing and singing with his parents. Al’s father, a WWII veteran, was a talented fiddle player that greatly influenced him and his music. His mother had an amazing voice and expressed her love for singing on a daily basis around the house. “I do not remember a time when there wasn’t music around the old homestead. As a family we would performed in public for local festivals and Garden parties. I had my own band by age 18 and I started writing in 2008 and had some of my songs produced in 2010 in Nashville.” When Al is not performing or in the studio he spends his time with his wife and children in Canada.

Jason Crabb Nominated for Three GMA Dove Awards

Nashville, TN (August 13, 2014) – Jason Crabb, Grammy Award winner and 21 time GMA Dove Award winner, has received three nominations for the 45th Annual GMA Dove Awards. Announced during a press conference this morning - August 13, 2014 - at Lipscomb University's Allen Arena, Crabb was honored with nods in the following categories:
  • Short Form Video of the Year - "Love Is Stronger," Roman White (director), Michelle Abnet (producer)
  • Southern Gospel Performance of the Year - "Love Is Stronger," Jay DeMarcus (producer)
  • Southern Gospel Song of the Year - "Love Is Stronger," Michael Mobley (writer)
The message of "Love Is Stronger" has impacted lives around the globe, highlighting military and special needs families, giving hope in the lyrics. Premiering on USAToday.com, the video has been viewed around the world through airings on GAC, CMT, UPtv, and YouTube, among others. Recently the video and song were highlighted during the National Down Syndrome Congress in New York City with the star of the video, Ashley DeRamus - a woman living with Down Syndrome, making a special appearance.

"When my producer Jay DeMarcus brought me this song, I knew it was special and I couldn't believe I was going to get the chance to record it, " Crabb commented. "To be nominated for the GMA Dove Awards for this video and song is very humbling. Every time I sing it, I am thankful that God chose me to spread this message. Just as the song says, yes, life is tough but love is stronger. His love is the love that knows no bounds. I am very grateful. Congratulations to my family and peers on their nominations as well."

Between signing a brand new record deal with Provident Music's Reunion Records to criss-crossing the country on two tours - the "Love Is Stronger" tour with special guest Natasha Owens and "Music & Madness with Mark Lowry and the Martins" - writing children's books and reading scripts for upcoming movie appearances, it's been a busy summer for Jason Crabb and there's no signs of slowing down!
