Surprise Nashville Performance at Sony Music Nashville’s Annual Boat Show Set the Stage for the Great Music to Come

LOS ANGELES – Friday, February 28 – Four-time Grammy winning band the Doobie Brothers with Michael McDonald are teaming up with country’s biggest stars including Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Zac Brown Band, Sara Evans, Chris Young, Jerrod Niemann, Love and Theft, and more to be announced for an album of all-new recordings of the Doobie Brothers’ biggest hits. Releasing later this year on Sony Music Nashville, the album was announced during last week’s Country Radio Seminar at Sony Music Nashville’s annual, invitation-only show aboard the General Jackson Showboat, which treated radio, media, and industry VIPs to a surprise performance by the Doobie Brothers collaborating with album stars Paisley, Evans, and Young.

The album has come together organically over the last few months with artists picking their favorite Doobie songs and recording them with the Doobies. Many of the artists have performed Doobie Brothers songs live in concert, and Sony Music Nashville label head Gary Overton’s first live concert was a Doobie Brothers show in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1972.
Overton shares, “Seeing the Doobie Brothers perform all those years ago was such a thrill for me. I loved their sound, and the enduring appeal and influence of the Doobies runs deep. Artists have been telling me how excited they are to be a part of this project, and that alone speaks volumes about the amazing heritage of music that the Doobie Brothers have created.”

As durable as American steel, Northern California’s four-time Grammy winning Doobie Brothers sound has become part of America’s musical firmament, sampled on dance records, reinterpreted on “American Idol,” and a fixture on radio formats from top 40 to classic rock. They continue to write and record new material and tour the world, boasting one of the most loyal fan bases in music, all while breaking new creative ground. In 2011, the band marked a new chapter, filming a CMT Crossroads special with superstar Luke Bryan, and appearing for the first time ever on the Grand Ole Opry. Their relationship with Nashville continues to unfold with this new project.

The Doobies have rung up a glittering track record that would be the envy of any band. Beginning with their multi-million-selling sophomore collection Toulouse Street (1972), the Doobies have 3 multi-platinum, 7 platinum and 14 gold albums. Their Best of the Doobies (1976) has sold more than 11 million copies – a rare “diamond record.” The Doobies’ propulsive, roots-based, harmony-laden, guitar-driven style has sold more than 30 million albums.

Their No. 1 singles “Black Water” (1974) and “What a Fool Believes” (1979), both gold, lead a catalog of indelible songs that include  “Jesus Is Just All Right,” “Rockin’ Down the Highway,” “Long Train Runnin’,” “China Grove,” “Take Me in Your Arms,” “Takin’ It to the Streets,” “Minute by Minute,” “You Belong to Me,” “The Doctor” and more. In all, the Doobies have tallied-up five top 10 singles and 16 top 40 hits.

Formed in 1969 by fellow singer-songwriter-guitarist-lead vocalists Patrick Simmons and Tom Johnston, the Doobies made their mark with a run of punchy, melodic hits on Warner Bros. Records. They attained radio and chart ubiquity in the early ‘70s. The group’s expanded line-up was later augmented by Michael McDonald, whose soaring lead vocals pushed the band to new commercial and critical heights.

The years have witnessed many changes in the Doobies, but the band’s most recent studio lineup harkens back to their earliest days. Simmons and Johnston continue to front the group. And multi-instrumentalist John McFee’s history with the Brothers dates back to 1978, after his stint with Southern Pacific. Michael McDonald returns to the Doobie Brothers for this project.

Jim & Jesse Radio Shows album reaches #1 on AirPlay Direct
Nashville, TN (February 27, 2014) – Inducted in 1964, Bluegrass legends Jim & Jesse are celebrating 50 Years as members of the GRAND OLE OPRY this year.  On March 1st the Grand Ole Opry® will honor Jesse McReyonlds as he celebrates his 50th year as a member of the Grand Ole Opry®.  The success of their 60’s radio shows prompted Martha White Flour to bring them to Nashville to star on their early morning show on WSM.  In 1964 a life time dream came true for Jim & Jesse when they became regular members of the Grand Ole Opry®.
Deep in the mountains of southwest Virginia still stands the white aging farmhouse Jim & Jesse first called home. Raised in the small community of Carfax, located near Coeburn, VA, the boys grew up in a family steeped in traditional mountain music.  Their harmony was exceptional, a rarity some say only brothers can produce. Jim's enhanced high tenor combined with Jesse's deep lead and unique mandolin style set this duo apart in the world of traditional music, now termed Bluegrass.
Very early in their career, Jesse developed a "McReynolds style" technique on the mandolin, combining his invention of "crosspicking and split-string playing", which distinguished his picking from others. Many have imitated, but few have successfully mastered his unique style of fast execution of intricate melodic patterns.
In 1952, Jim & Jesse debuted on their first major label, Capitol Records. Since that time, they have recorded for various labels including: Columbia, Epic, again for Capitol, Opryland, CMH, Rounder, and their own, Old Dominion. In 1960, their first single for Columbia, "The Flame of Love" backed by "Gosh I Miss You All The Time" spent weeks climbing the top 100 national charts. "Cotton Mill Man", "Diesel On My Tail", "Are You Missing Me", and "Paradise" are a few songs regarded as Jim & Jesse classics.
The year 2002 was a difficult one for Jim and Jesse. Jim was diagnosed with cancer and passed away on December 31, 2002.  His death ended the longest active professional brother duet in country music history - 55 years.

Jesse has carried on the Jim & Jesse tradition and has since gone on to play throughout the world with the Virginia Boys. And the beautiful music that originated from the brothers in the mountains of southwest Virginia back in 1947 is as timeless as ever.
The Jim & Jesse tradition continues to grow in 2014 with the release of the album RADIO SHOWS which is currently #1 on both the AirPlay Direct Global Radio Indicator Charts for “Top 50 Albums” and the “Top 50 Bluegrass Albums for the month of February.

“Jim & Jesse have captured something truly special here.  A lifetime of radio fans and professionals giving them input on which songs were best, I LOVE IT…!” - Robert Weingartz, Chairman & Founder – AirPlay Direct
Originally released in 1978 as a 2 record set on the Old Dominion label, RADIO SHOWS will be available for the first time on CD and digital formats on March 4th.  RADIO SHOWS was recorded in 1962 and contained mainly songs never before recorded by Jim & Jesse and The Virginia Boys, and were selected because of the heavy requests for them on their radio shows.
Produced by Jesse McReynolds and Gordon Reid, RADIO SHOWS contains 24 songs on one compact disc remastered from the original master tapes with performances by Jim & Jesse McReynolds, Allen Shelton, Jim Buchanan, Don McHan and David Southerland.
A special added value feature to the album includes online access to a Jesse McReynolds video interview reminiscing about the RADIO SHOWS album and era, as well as, exclusive photos from his private collection during this wonderful period in the lives of Jim & Jesse.
Jim & Jesse recorded and released many albums on the Old Dominion label dating back to the early 70’s including “The Jim & Jesse Show”, “Superior Sounds Of Bluegrass”, “Jesus Is The Key”, “Jim & Jesse Show Live In Japan”, “Songs About Our Country”, “Palace Of Song”, “Songs of Inspiration” and more.

NASHVILLE, Tenn., February 27, 2014 – The Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum will explore a year in the life of Grammy Award-winning superstar Miranda Lambert with the exhibition Miranda Lambert: Backstage Access, which opens on May 16, 2014, and runs through November 9, 2014.
The exhibition will include gowns, stage costumes, awards and much more from the reigning and four-time CMA and ACM Female Vocalist of the Year; Lambert’s own Tweets will provide the narrative thread of this journey through the artist’s life in 2013.
“The Country Music Hall of Fame is a place to cherish what country music is all about, and I'm so honored to have an exhibit in this treasured hall,” said Lambert.
“Miranda Lambert is one of contemporary music’s most popular and acclaimed artists, and for good reason,” said Museum Director Kyle Young.  “She’s a dynamic performer; an emotive and powerful vocalist whose voice is equally at home with lyrics tough or tender; and a songwriter with a deft touch for feeling and place.  Her numerous hits, from empowering anthems like “Gunpowder and Lead” to introspective set pieces like “The House That Built Me,” are rich contributions to country music’s storytelling tradition.  We are looking forward to taking our visitors behind the scenes with Miranda during her amazing successes in 2013.”
Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Miranda Lambert is the reigning four-time CMA and reigning four-time ACM Female Vocalist of the Year. Her last album, Four The Record, made history when it debuted atop Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, making Miranda the first country artist in the 47-year history of the chart to have each of her first four albums debut at # 1. All four of those albums have also been certified platinum.
Lambert recently released the song “Automatic,” the first single from her highly anticipated fifth album, which will be released later this year. Written by Lambert, Nicolle Galyon and Natalie Hemby, the autobiographical song reflects on the days of pay phones, learning to drive a stick shift, driving to Dallas to buy an Easter dress, recording the country countdown on her cassette recorder and more.
In addition to her award-winning music, Lambert has designed a shoe line that is available at DSW and other retailers across the country. She also dedicates much of her time to her MuttNation Foundation. The foundation has raised more than $1.5 million to aid organizations and governmental institutions or entities whose purpose is to build animal shelters for better care; increase pet adoption and encourage responsible pet guardianship; rehabilitate sick or unsocialized animals; fund spay/neuter programs; and reduce and eliminate euthanasia of healthy animals.  She also owns two lifestyle boutiques, general stores she named the Pink Pistol. The stores are located in her hometown of Lindale, TX, and in Tishomingo, OK.
Accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum is operated by the Country Music Foundation, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization chartered by the state of Tennessee in 1964. The museum’s mission is the preservation of the history of country and related vernacular music rooted in southern culture.  With the same educational mission, the foundation also operates CMF Records, the museum’s Frist Library and Archive, CMF Press, Historic RCA Studio B and Hatch Show Print®.
