Murphey Leaves 2013 Behind As He Prepares For a Busy 2014
NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE — Having just wrapped up a wildly successful 20th Anniversary Cowboy Christmas Tour, iconic singer songwriter Michael Martin Murphey is looking forward to what could be one of his busiest years yet in 2014.
In January alone, Murphey will play the popular Steamboat Springs Music Fest (Jan. 6 & 7) in Steamboat Springs, Colorado — along with other notable artists like Bruce Robison, Kelly Willis, Dean Dillon, J.D. Souther, Lincoln Durham, Gary P. Nunn, Cody Canada, Hayes Carll and more — followed by a rare trip to the Northeast where he will perform in New York City (Jan. 11 at Hill Country BBQ), New Haven, CT (Jan. 13 at Cafe Nine), Sellersville, PA (Jan. 15 at the Sellersville Theater), Wilmington, DE (Jan. 16 at World Cafe Live), Kansas City, MO (Jan. 19 at Knuckleheads) and, finally, at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko NV (Jan. 30 & 31).

ALBUM NEWS: Five-time Grammy nominee Rhonda Vincent, the New Queen of Bluegrass as deemed by the Wall Street Journal, is clearing the lane for her upcoming 2-Disc combination release that includes six-songs of Bluegrass and six Country.  The project, appropriately titled ONLY ME, is set to release on January 28, 2014. The Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas will host Garth Brooks: The Man, His Band And His Music for two days; Jan. 3-4. Garth’s Six Disc Box Set CD exclusive to Walmart, sold 166,000 off the shelf during Thanksgiving weekend. Otis Redding, Gladys Knight, Rod Stewart, Patsy Cline, Elton John, Stevie Wonder are just some of the 44 artists, Garth covers on this deluxe collection.
He was certified by the RIAA in 2000 as the number one selling solo artist in US history; Garth Brooks has sold in excess of 128 million albums and has received every accolade the recording industry can bestow on an artist. In January, 2012 he was named the best selling artist of the last two decades by Billboard, Nielson and Soundscan, with a whopping 68.5 million sales.  Garth was recently inducted into the International Songwriters Hall of Fame in New York as well as the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. In October, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Performing for his induction were his heroes George Strait, James Taylor and Bob Seger.
TRIVIA NOTE: Garth was turned down twice by the same major record label executive and he was told by another, “Go back to Oklahoma”.

CHARITY NEWS: The Kenny Rogers Children’s Center, which has provided a wide array of occupational, physical, and speech therapy to children since 1973, has recently undergone a 7,000 square foot expansion. This expansion has added a Motional Analysis Lab to the center, which is currently the only one in the state of Missouri. In addition, The Kenny Rogers Children’s Center has been awarded a $500,000 grant from the Missouri Foundation for Health.  With the help of this grant and its current resources, the center is able to serve more than 350 children with special needs up to the age of 21 with no charge to the families. Kenny Rogers, the Gatlin Brothers, and other stars participated in benefit concerts throughout the ‘70s, which eventually generated enough funds to lay the foundation for the new Kenny Rogers United Cerebral Palsy Center of Southeast MO.  The center officially changed its name to Kenny Rogers Children’s Center in 2000.

CRB NEWS: Brett Eldredge, Tyler Farr, Cassadee Pope, Thomas Rhett and Charlie Worsham were named for the 2014 New Faces Show. The event is sold out.

DEEPEST SYMPATHY: To the family, friends and fans of Country Music Hall of Famer Ray Price.

CD: JACK LANGLEY - Reflections

The Mighty Muddy Mo - The Last Recall - One Day At A Time - Wildwood Flower - Old Rugged Cross - Your Memory Strikes Again
I believe everyone in the upper Midwest knows by now that Jack Langley is one of our very best singer songwriters in 'real' country music.  I'm so glad that Jack Langley lives in Iowa, it means country music will still survive, at least in our rural state, so long as he is with us.  That's a real comfort, and so is this CD.  Not exactly sure when this was recorded, but Jack is doing this one with his son Mike who was 9 months old when the photo on the cover was taken in 1964, listening to a young Jack Langley picking and singing to the little lad.  Three of these songs are Jack Langley originals, and even when doubled with other great songwriters like Kristofferson and the Carter Family, the originals of Langley are just as good, and in my opinion better than the super-star ones.  He never ceases to amaze me with his wonderful ability to write a 'story' in his songs, so rare in today's pop-rap-country music.  He's also a fearsome vocalist.  Langley has that perfect-pitch that allows him to put 'feeling' in places where others fear to tread.  I found the harmony between father and son really interesting and really good on the old song "Wildwood Flower."  Mike is singing the high tenor above his dad's lead-line, and the 'match' is pretty astounding to me.  The last song on," the album is "Your Memory Strikes Again," and hits me with reality.  No matter where I go, Jack Langley will always have a spot in my heart for good country music.  I hope he teams up again with a flute player who would really sound good on this last song, so very good.

CD: BUDDY RICH - New Life Comin'

New Life Comin'
Down On My Knees - If You Think This Is Livin' - Walk With Jesus - Jesus Is Greater Than Our Burdens - Family Tradition - Nothing Left To Hide - New Life Comin' - Where Can I Go - Works Of The Lord
With all that is happening in the world today, especially in our 'free' beautiful United States of America, and hearing the fall-out from the Duck Dynasty Phil Robertson's expression of truth, and the attack he is under from the gay community, this CD is exactly what I needed to hear, and hear I did, several times.  Indeed there's a "new life coming.'  This CD really tells us the truth about Jesus Christ.  Buddy Riche is the father of Duane Riche one of the movers and shakers behind the very successful Gospel group 'Other Side of Sunday."  This CD is a very strong reflection of Buddy Riche's belief in Jesus Christ as our Savior.  It's also pure country, done exceptionally well.  Keith Wilson provides some outstanding 'steel' to make the point, many times.  Buddy also included several of his own originals, "New Life Comin"  and "Walk With Jesus."  He also added some new lyrics to "Family Tradition."  It is so refreshing to hear someone singing to and for Jesus Christ.  Buddy Riche is convinced, and convincing, in his belief that Jesus Christ died on the cross so that we might know that He will, and does, forgive our sins, and promises us salvation....forever.  It doesn't matter how old you are, each and every day takes you, and me, and everyone, closer to the 'end of the road.'  What does matter is where you are going when you reach that point in your life.  Buddy Riche knows.  He's sure.  So am I, my entire soul, and all of me, and all that I have done, belongs to Jesus Christ, especially when I reach Jordan's chilly shore.  This is how Buddy Riche feels too.  Buddy Riche might not be the Eddy Arnold of today, but he's one fine sincere singer of true classic and traditional country gospel music.  Keith Wilson who also added some fantastic fiddle to some of these incredibly beautiful gospel songs, did all this fine work at C-Lee Production Studio.  All the way around, this is without a doubt the best Gospel music I've heard in awhile, and I especially need it today when our world seems in such 'soul' turmoil.  Buddy brings the serenity of rural Iowa to our ears.  He brings us the 'truth' of Jesus Christ to our ears.  Buddy Riche brings salvation of our souls to our ears.  We hear you Buddy Riche, please just keep on doing what you are doing. Buddy has a close connection to

CD: Alaina Blair - Alaina Blair

Sweet Talkin’ Lola 4:10 Fall From Grace 4:05 Down  3:44 I’m a Mess 3:28 More 3:49
Why 4:25 Goodbye to Love 4:15 Tellin’ Time 3:54 Place to Escape 2:43
I Dream That Way 4:11

Have you ever just sat back watching the signs of what you think will happen? As a writer, I’ve become accustomed to it. People call you “paranoid,” some may say you are insecure until your predictions come true. I really began watching what I was saying around this person. Later on, I found the idea I had, was being promoted to others behind my back. I think Sweet Talkin’ Lola would try and attempt this. I’m sure we all know people like this. I’m just glad I could make the predictions.
Fall from Grace is a beautiful song. Just knowing that feeling of jumping in the ocean and coming out to clear blue sky with the sun beating on your salt skin. One of the first things I did after returning from nine years in Asia, a car crash and brain surgery in Thailand, and losing everything I had left in Taiwan was go down to the beach out back and dive in. Maybe the lyrics meant more to me than most, but the melody really made me relive that moment.
I think I just stepped in a time machine. The 70’s are here in Down. I enjoy the funk flying out of the jukebox. I just wish I was wearing roller-skates and hanging out on a Friday night at the local roller rink. The disco ball spinning, my stripped tube sox, my matching wrist and head band, and my short shorts were all thrown away a long time ago. I’m a Mess, I can understand. It’s hard to peg this woman. I haven’t done my research yet but this song makes me picture a lot of hairspray, skintight black leather chaps, and the 80’s which I’d rather forget.
This next song, More, sounds like it really matches her voice. I can’t explain why, it just does. I don’t know why, Why, is next. But, it begins with an acoustic jam that rolls behind her voice. After a few minutes a drum beat brings it up a notch. Goodbye to Love has the same feel.
I Dream That Way is another one that really displays her lyrical ability. The writing displayed, especially on the last four tracks is well thought out and put together. Overall, I like the sound. It’s well produced. I may consider it a ‘girl’s album’ just like I believe some movies are ‘chic flicks.’ But, any way there is a great deal of musical talent displayed on it. In this day and age it’s refreshing to listen to lyric driven songs versus song driven lyrics.

CD: Billy CURRINGTON – We Are Tonight

Billy CURRINGTON – We Are Tonight
Mercury Records Nashville
Genre: Country

  1. "Wingman" (Jeff Silbar, Chriss Gelbuda) - 4:00
  2. "One Way Ticket" (Gregory Becker, Troy Jones) - 2:55
  3. "23 Degrees and South" (Tom Douglas, Hillary Lindsey, Gordie Sampson) 4:00
  4. "We Are Tonight" (Marc Beeson, Sam Hunt, Josh Osborne) - 3:52
  5. "Hard to Be a Hippie" (Deanna Bryant, Scotty Emerick, John Scott Sherrill) 3:40 im Duett mit Willie Nelson
  6. "Closer Tonight" (J. T. Harding, Marv Green, Shane McAnally) - 4:59
  7. "Another Day Without You" (McAnally, Barry Dean, Andrew Dorff) - 4:08
  8. "Banana Pancakes" (Jack Johnson) - 4:37
  9. "Hallelujah" (Shy Carter, Brad Warren, Brett Warren) - 3:03

ROUGHROAD – Acoustic Country Music

ROUGHROAD – Acoustic Country Music –
