YOUNG LOVE BUILDS KIP MOORE'S

KIP MOORE'S "YOUNG LOVE" BUILDS EXCITEMENT FOR UPCOMING ALBUM AND IS AVAILABLE ON ITUNES TODAY

Moore Nominated For Four American Country Awards

Nashville, TN- Nov. 25, 2013- MCA and PLATINUM-selling recording artist Kip Moore's "Young Love" is setting a powerful tone as the lead single from the follow up to his debut album, UP ALL NIGHT.  The track is available today on iTunes and is eliciting rave responses from critics and radio already.

"Moore channels his inner Bruce Springsteen while reflecting on his early days of romance…'Two wrongs never felt so right,' the raspy-voiced country singer recalls, imbuing just the right amount of warmth and nostalgia in each wistful phrase."  Billboard

Moore is nominated for four American Country Awards including "Artist of the Year: New Artist," "Single of the Year," "Single of the Year: New Artist" and "Music Video of the Year: New Artist."  The show broadcasts live on FOX Dec., 10 at 8pm ET.
Last year, Moore shot out of the gate with the best selling debut country album of 2012, UP ALL NIGHT, which spawned the PLATINUM, two week chart-topping hit "Somethin' 'Bout A Truck," followed by two more No. one singles, "Beer Money" and "Hey Pretty Girl."  Moore has relentlessly toured the country coast to coast this year with Eric Church, Brantley Gilbert and Toby Keith amid selling out his own headlining shows, often in just minutes.  Moore's headlining BURN THE WHOLE WORLD DOWN Tour picks up in Oxford, OH on 12/4 and goes through Dec. 14.  In January, he will join Lady Antebellum for their TAKE ME DOWNTOWN TOUR.

Nashville’s New Year’s Eve “Bash on Broadway”

Nashville, Tenn. – Nashville will ring in the New Year with multiple days of free music, fireworks and a midnight "Music Note Drop®". Start the celebration on Monday, Dec. 30 with a Music City Bowl pre-game performance by Nashville vocalist Jason Eskridge and a post-game performance by Country trio The Shuggah Pies. Both concerts take place at the New Year’s Eve stage on Lower Broadway near 1st Avenue. For years, I have not performed on New Year's Eve in honor of my father, but this year is a monumental year in the history of Hank Williams. If daddy would have lived, he would have been 90 years old this year. I hope Music City is ready to boogie woogie, because Bocephus is going to bring the party to Nashville."

The show, which is free to the public, will take place on Lower Broadway between 1st and 5th avenues beginning at 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. Revelers attending the festivities will count down to the New Year as a 15-foot-tall red “Music Note Drop®,” drops slowly from a 115-foot structure triggering a fireworks display and confetti cannons at midnight.

RED HEN STRINGBAND - Birds of a Feather

RED HEN STRINGBAND
Birds of a Feather

Martin Said To His Man - Off The Griddle - Cluck Old Hen - Little Bird - Down In Mississippi - Blue Yodel #3 - Walnut Gap - Do You Love An Apple - Jute Mill Song - Free Little Bird - Farewell Trion - Ishikawa - Colours - Smithland Farm

Wow, what a treat to get this CD to review while I'm sitting in an ice-storm in Texas waiting for the weather to clear. For all practical purposes this intriguing project definitely has cleared my mind.  It's also very timely, the third song on this remarkable adventure is "Cluck Old Hen" recently the name of Ricky Skagg's newest CD release.  He however spells it a little differently "Cluck Ol' Hen."  Not that makes much difference except in cultural and traditional oral tradition which ultimately 'changes' the being of something.  Nothing need change with is remarkable string band. Sometimes when we speak 'string band' we hear..."oh one of those jamming groups"   Aaaaah this could not be further from the truth.  Here is string music done the old way, but oh my done so much better than even the old masters.  Harmony singing is super (especially on "Cluck Old Hen").  A near mandatory instrument in string band music is of course the frailing or drop-thumb banjo.  Far far removed from Earl Scruggs, this galloping style of playing has an energy and beautiful sound all its own. David Kiphuth, a very Mark Twain like genuinely looking 'master' of the instrument, of which he plays several different makes, the Fielding I like very well on "Little Bird." That same song very reverently offers the extremely lovely voices of Jane Rothfield, & Linda Schrade, in harmony with life, love, and certainly a little bird.   I can't begin to express how deeply impressed I am with the 'sureness' of this group as they play.  Much of the music keeps going back to David (even bluegrass style on Blue Yodel #3 on his Mastertone), but the fiddle, so diligigently played by Jane Rothfield, is also a very apparent and needed instrument to bring it full circle into that old-time style, so popular in rural America back in those old days, and still so very unique, so beautiful, and so entrancing when done well today.  Allan Carr plays the upright acoustic bass, and he adds the 'just-right' runs as well as that solid 'beat' that takes the place of unecessary drums.  Add to this the sustaining guitar of Linda Schrade, you find a 'gathering' of gifted music makers determined to keep this music alive and well.  The Albany Times Union says "Supergroup.  It's an overused term, but sometimes it fits just right, such is the case with Red Hen."  As a music historian, Smithsonian recording artist, and festival producer I couldn't agree more.  All of this great music is coming from Wepecket Island Records, 573 Rockdale Ave., New Bedford, MA 02740, of which I have a couple more recent releases from this company.  If they are half as good as this one, my time will be well spent.

TRADITION BULLETIN NOVEMBER 25. 2013

TRADITION BULLETIN

Wow, it's a cold dreary day where we're stuck at in Van Horn, Texas.  Snow, sleet, hail, ice, blizzard conditions, wind, and lightning.  Not good. We've been stuck here two days, probably one more and we can head further west.  Willie Nelson's bus, westbound on I-30 crashed into a bridge pillar causing some injuries to the musicians.  Willie wasn't on the bus.  Paul English suffered a broken ankle, Billy English a bruised hip, and Tom Hawkin a cracked rib.  All of Willie's November gigs have been canceled, but they will be made up.  Saw a picture of the bus, it was tore up pretty bad.

Bob & Sheila Everhart "were" on our way to Albuquerque for a couple of reasons.  One to perform for Manny & Ethel, friends we met through Bob Duff, who also came to see us in Anita.  All the Albuquerque stuff failed to materialize because Manny died unexpectedly.  Another reason, we wanted to be in Albuquerque last night to attend the Western Music Association's 25th Anniversary Awards Show at the KiMo Theatre.  Then we were going on to Santa Fe for our traditional Thanksgiving celebration.  Here we sit in Van Horn, Texas, unable to move, waiting for the ice storm to go away.  Looks like we'll be able to get back on I-10 tomorrow, but we'll be heading to California now.

One of Blake Shelton's close buddies, Wayne Mills, was shot to death by Pit & Barrell bar owner Chris Ferrell.  Happened early Saturday morning in Nashville.  Ferrell said he had a dispute with Mills about smoking in the bar which is prohibited.  Mills attacked him, and Ferrell drew a gun and shot him.  Mills has had previous arrest records, including driving while under the influence and reckless endangerment.

President Obama notes that after 50 years in the business, Loretta Lynn still reigns "as the rule-breaking record-setting queen of country music."  Obama presented Loretta, and 15 others, with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest award the United States can bestow upon civilians.  He pointed out that he was just 19 when she first won big at the local county fair, for her canned vegetables.  He went on to say she brought home 17 blue ribbons, and was named 'canner of the year.'

Kris Kristofferson, 77 years old, has indicated he is suffering from memory loss.  He is a Rhodes Scholar and also has an English Literature degree from Oxford, and known to have an outstanding memory during his 40-year singer songwriter career.  He said he is having difficulty remembering 'things' but he remembers his song lyrics.  He thinks maybe being a boxer when he was younger might be a cause of it, but I can say, at my age of 77, I also have some memory loss, but I was never a boxer.....I don't think I was?  Kristofferson has a wife of 33 years, and eight children, and said, "I'm blessed and am at a good point in my life."   Me too!

George Jone's family has established a scholarship fund in his honor at Middle Tennessee State University.  His widow, Nancy, made the announcement at the unveiling of the George Jones Monument in Memorial Park.  The Jones Family have already made an unknown financial contribution to the fund which will be overseen by MTSU's Recording Department.

I've been working for several years to get John Prine into to our Hall of Fame, without much success.  Now, it's been reported he has an operable form of lung cancer.  He is 67 years old now, and will under go surgery in December.  He's feeling secure in the rfact that doctors found the cancer early on and there's no reason why he won't fully recover.  He's had to cancel a few dats, so for our prayer warriors, please offer up a prayer for John Prine's complete recovery.  He's a remarkable singer songwriter, composer of one of my favorite Jim & Jesse songs "Paradise."

Ricky Skaggs is set for several national television show adventures supporting his new autobiography "Kentucky Traveler" as well as his new CD "Cluck Ol Hen."  November 23rd on Fox Channel's "Red Eye" with Greg Culfield aqs well as performing on Fox's "Fox & Friende."  He'll also be on the Hallmark Channel on Thanksgiving.  The new CD "Cluck Ol Hen" is a duo with Bruce Hornsby taken from their 'live' performances with Skagg's band Kentucky Thunder this past summer.  Skaggs promotion of his book 'Kentucky Traveler' is his first ever unprecedented piece of bluegrass and country music.

George Hamilton IV is meandering out to Arizona for a few shows in the town of Surprise.  He'll be performing at a place called "Arizona Traditions," January 10 & 11.  He continues to appear as a regular cast member of the Grand Ole Opry, and performs on the road as a solo artistk doing acoustic music and telling stories of country music and its many legends.
