HANK WILLIAMS JR. PATRIOT AWARD

HANK WILLIAMS JR. SET TO BE HONORED
WITH 'PATRIOT AWARD' FROM OPERATION TROOP AID

Nashville, Tenn. (November 12, 2013) – Operation Troop Aid (OTA), a nonprofit organization which supports deployed U.S. troops, set to honor Grammy, CMA, ACM, and Emmy award-winning entertainer Hank Williams Jr. with the 2013 Operation Troop Aid “Patriot Award.”  The presentation will take place on December 31st, when Williams headlines the New Year’ Eve ‘Bash on Broadway’ in downtown Nashville, Tennessee.

Presented annually by OTA to celebrities that champion the men and women serving in the American Armed Forces, the southern rock and country legend was awarded the Eagle Trophy for his countless endeavors to support troops overseas and at local hospitals and for supporting numerous military charities. Well known for his role as an American Patriot, Williams, has performed at various military bases and continues to meet military personnel at every concert appearance.

"I am extremely honored to award Hank Williams Jr the 2013 Patriot Award.  His art, legacy of family and Spirit of Patriotism is exactly why this award exists.  He never forgot his roots and why we have the Freedom we do in America," says OTA founder and executive director Mark Woods.

Williams will join past Patriot Award recipients Toby Keith, Darryl Worley, Aaron Tippin, Gary Sinise, Charlie Daniels, Mark Wills, and KISS.

About Hank Williams Jr.
Though he began his career in the shadow of his legendary father, Hank Williams Jr. emerged as a formidable Country singer-songwriter in his own right with 1960s hits such as “It’s All Over But The Crying” and “Cajun Baby.” But things changed with the 1979 release of “Family Tradition,” where he broke the Nashville mainstream by adopting a rebel image and writing/recording in a style incorporating his Blues and Southern Rock influences. The results were staggering as  42 Top-10 hits followed, two CMA Entertainer of the Year honors, three ACM Entertainer of the Year honors, multiple Grammy nominations and a Grammy award for “There’s a Tear in My Beer”, a duet with his father using electronic merging technology.

As groundbreaking as Hank Williams Jr. became, it wasn’t just his performance that people took note about, but rather his songwriting that became so notable. The driven musician penned hits songs year after year scoring 20 BMI Awards. One of the arguably most-heard Country song of modern times, the four-time Emmy award-winning “Are You Ready For Some Football?,” which was heard nationally as the theme song of ABC and ESPN’s Monday Night Football telecasts, was aired for 21 years.

As the accolades kept coming, Williams sold over 55 million albums, achieving gold, platinum, and multi-platinum status along with 13 of those albums hitting the no. 1 spot on the Billboard chart. In 2008, Williams was honored with the BMI Icon award at the 56th annual BMI Country Awards, joining an elite group of past honorees including Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and Dolly Parton.

"It doesn't matter if you can see pine or palm trees outside your window ... you will find 'Almost Christmas' a very warm and enjoyable holiday experience."
- Chuck Dauphin / Music News Nashville

Nashville, TN (November 12, 2013) - Singer/songwriter Mike Aiken rings in the holidays with "Almost Christmas," a seasonal single and video filled with the Virginia troubadour's down-home warmth and charm.

The video, directed by Andrew Piland, inspires a sense of peace and quietude, reflecting a season of restoration and hope.  Twinkling lights and snow-filled vistas fuel the viewer's imagination while a wreath-bedecked train brings eager travelers home.  The striking red barn and manor house featured throughout the video are located at Windsor Castle Park in historic Smithfield, Virginia.

Additional scenes were shot inside downtown Smithfield's The Christmas Store.  Thousands of ornaments, including the glass candy-cane guitar slide used by Aiken, sparkled magically.  "The town's charm perfectly fit how I felt when I wrote the song," says Aiken.  "The folks at Smithfield Tourism, The Christmas Store and the locals all went out of their way to make us feel welcome during the shoot."

The single is available to radio programmers via Airplay Direct and CDX, and fans can purchase the ALMOST CHRISTMAS EP (Northwind Records) and single online at Amazon and iTunes.  The disc includes three originals and three classics recorded in Aiken's signature style.  Look for the video to air next month on ZUUS Country, America's Country Connection, Young Country TV, Sunday's Kind Of Country, Alternate Root TV, and HighwayFM TV.

In an effort to give his fans an additional taste of the holiday spirit, Mike has posted his own personal egg nog recipe video HERE.

THE OAK RIDGE BOYS CHRISTMAS TIME

THE OAK RIDGE BOYS TEAM WITH COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL
FOR 2013 CHRISTMAS TIME'S A COMIN' TOUR

Legendary award-winning, hit-making group
celebrate 24th Anniversary of Christmas Tour

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (November 11, 2013) – Grammy Award-winning music legends The Oak Ridge Boys are set to celebrate the 24th Anniversary of their annual Christmas Tour in 2013 with a festive show featuring live performances of holiday classics and their biggest hits.  Additionally, while Richard Sterban, Duane Allen, William Lee Golden, and Joe Bonsall are celebrating their 40th Anniversary of The Oak Ridge Boys, they have teamed with Compassion International as the official sponsor of the “Christmas Time’s a Comin’” Tour.

“Over the course of our career we have worked with many children's relief organizations, but never have we seen a more positive response from our fans than we are seeing with Compassion International,” says Oak Ridge Boy Joe Bonsall.  “I believe that folks are moved by Compassion International’s Christ-centered approach to feeding and educating needy kids around the world—and their amazing success rate, which is impressive! When folks sign up to help a hungry child there is a huge chance that THAT child will rise out of poverty and make a difference in the world. This is why we are excited and blessed to be working with this stellar organization.”

The Oak Ridge Boys came together in 1973, beginning as gospel singers, became a top act in country music and then crossed over to pop with the monster hit “Elvira” in 1981.  The song became their fourth No. 1 country hit, reached No. 5 on the pop charts, won the group a Grammy® award and went on to become one of only a handful of singles released out of Nashville ever to go double platinum.  The Oak Ridge Boys recently became members of the Grand Ole Opry®.

“Compassion International will be traveling with us on our Christmas Time’s a Comin’ Tour so folks can meet them first hand and join with us as we try to do some positive things for children. The song “Thank God For Kids” has inspired us for decades to give back and to be a special blessing to needy children. Our partnership with Compassion International enables us to fulfill those visions, and together we can make a huge difference through Christmas and beyond!” adds Bonsall.

The Oak Ridge Boys are known for creating a show atmosphere of holiday cheer with their Christmas tour, which consistently receives rave reviews and has become a holiday tradition in its own right since its start 24 years ago.  The masterful blends of new and traditional yuletide tunes are enhanced by the powerhouse group’s renowned four-part harmonies.

The Oak Ridge Boys will be filling the holiday season with the celebrated sounds of their Christmas Time’s A Coming CD (Gaither Gospel Series). The album was released to retail outlets in 2012, with an exclusive version of the CD available at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store®, featuring two heartwarming bonus tracks that capture the meaning of the season. The Christmas Time’s A Coming album marks the Oaks’ sixth holiday CD.
