Rural Rhythm Records will continue releasing albums in the Rural Roots Digital Series, as well as releasing “classic albums” in the Rural Rhythm Heritage Collection Series on both the physical and digital formats.
The first two titles in the Rural Rhythm HERITAGE COLLECTION Series will be released on September 24th with the CD release of RED SMILEY & The Blue Grass Cut-Ups - Red Smiley & The Blue Grass Cut-Ups originally released in 1967 and CURLY FOX - Champion Fiddler, Volume One originally released in 1972. Rural Rhythm’s SOUND TRADITIONS collection titles have helped keep the traditional Bluegrass flame burning for decades and will continue the steady flow of available Old-Time Country, Bluegrass & Gospel titles culled from the treasure trove of masters in the Rural Rhythm Records vault…IT’S ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC !

Interview with Western Avenue

Interview with Western Avenue

Lamitschka:  How was the last year for you? What were your highlights?

Western Avenue:  The last year has been a crazy ride for us! Some of the highlights include releasing our first single to Canadian Radio last July (Highway Headin’ Out of Town), shooting our first pro music video (This I Promise You), the release of our self-titled Debut EP, being nominated for Group of the Year at the 2013 CMAO Awards, signing with MTS & opening up for REBA & Trace Adkins at the Havelock Country Jamboree!

Lamitschka:  Do you write the songs yourself? If not, how do you go about finding the songs for your CD?

Western Avenue:  Collectively, we all wrote the music on our latest EP with the help of an amazing Canadian Lyricist – Dave Woods. We have so many songs right now that the difficult part was narrowing down our Album! Haha. There were a few gems left over from the album that will probably surface in the years ahead.

Lamitschka:  Your current single is being played by radio. What do you feel is special about this song that makes people want to hear it?

Western Avenue:  First of all, we are thrilled that our song has been picked up by Country Radio! It’s always very surreal to hear your own music on the radio while you’re driving down the highway. I believe soo many people can relate to our newest single Wherever You Are. Everyone has somebody in their life that they miss & this song has resonated with people across the globe. The coolest thing for us is hearing stories about how this song has been played as the first dance at numerous weddings this past summer! We are truly blessed!

Lamitschka:  How much creative control do you have over your music?

Western Avenue:  Right now, we have full creative control & we absolutely love it! On our past album we worked with the amazing Adam Newcomb of Newcomb Studios! With the final production of the album, we were all on the same page. We can see ourselves working with Adam for years to come!!

Lamitschka:  As an artist, you so many tasks such as recording, touring, interviews. What do you like best, what's your favorite activity?

Western Avenue:  The best part is being able to connect with our fans all over the world! In this day in age, it’s soo easy to stay connected with things like Facebook & Twitter. We love hearing their stories on how our music has affected their lives for the better!

Lamitschka:  What drives you?

Western Avenue:  The one thing that drives me personally is my commitment to realize my full potential. I work on self-improvement every single day & am an advocate of filling my head with positive information throughout each day! It’s my goal to be the best person I can be!

Lamitschka:  Is there any place you haven't played that you would like to?

Western Avenue:  We for sure want to take a trip & see all our fans in Europe, Japan & Australia! We’ll get there!

Lamitschka:  What can your fans expect to see when they see you in concert?

Western Avenue:  You can expect to see us having the time of our lives on stage! We truly love to play & we believe it comes across as well as our gratitude on stage!

Lamitschka:  When you're on tour, do you have time to play tourist?

Western Avenue:  We try to play tourist as much as possible! That’s the one really cool thing about playing in a band, is getting to see a lot of towns that we normally wouldn’t see! Soundchecks are usually around 5pm each day, so that gives us lots of tourist time!

Lamitschka:  Many music fans today get their information about artists online. Do you have your own website and what will fans find there?

Western Avenue:  Yes we do! Our website is & fans will find links to all our music, our Facebook page, twitter feed, photos, blog, etc. If people sign up for our mailing list, we also give away a free download off our album!

Lamitschka:  What message would you like to send your European fans?

Western Avenue:  That we are soooo grateful for your support!! We love you guys like you wouldn’t believe & we hope to come see you sometime soon!!

Love Is Alive Video 4
story reminiscent of John Cusak-inspired films such as Serendipity. The video
takes the viewer on a journey of two people's lives intersecting at a young age and reconnecting years later through a chance encounter...and the love story begins.

LeMars, Iowa.....The world's best known and most beloved Hobo, Boxcar Willie, would have turned 82 this year on September 1.  He's not with us anymore, he passed away in 1999.  The folks at America's Country Music Hall of Fame never got around to inducting Boxcar Willie, but a new opportunity has given rise to placing this traditional country music super-star in their Hall of Fame.  Of the four children Boxcar and his wife Lloene had, one son has taken on the name of his father.  Now known as Boxcar Willie Jr., (Marty Martin) will make the trek to the cornfields of Iowa to ascertain his father does indeed get inducted into America's Country Music Hall of Fame, and it will all happen on September 1st, on his dad's birthday, at the Plymouth County Fairgrounds in LeMars, Iowa, during the 38th annual National Old Time Country Music Festival.
"Boxcar Willie was incredibly popular in Europe, but his country music roots came directly from the upper Midwest," says Bob Everhart, President of the National Traditional Country Music Assn.  "Boxcar spent lots of time in Nebraska," Everhart added, "He was in the Air Force, and spent most of his time at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha.  As a matter of fact, Boxcar (his real name was Lecil Travis Martin) was sitting at a railroad crossing just outside of Lincoln, when a hobo that closely resembled one of his fellow airmen, Willie Wilson, passed by sitting in an open boxcar.  Martin saw the man that looked like his friend pass by, and immediately picked up a pencil and paper and wrote a song he called "Boxcar Willie."  It eventually stuck, and became Martin's nickname.  Sometime later, he attended a talent show as 'Boxcar Willie' in San Jose, California.  He won first place, $150, and a nickname that he would forever go by.  He left the Air Force in 1976, and became a full-time performer of traditional country music.  He had a big win on the Chuck Barris 'Gong Show.' This eventually led to a recording contract, and he sold well over 100-million records, tapes, and CDs worldwide.  In 1981 he achieved a professional landmark by being inducted into the Grand Ole Opry as it's 60th member.  In 1985 he opened his theater, and a museum, in Branson, Missouri.  He stayed in Branson, performing at his theater until his death."
"It's especially nice to see his son Marty keeping this incredible 'train-song' tradition alive," Everhart said.  "He'll be on stage with others coming for Hall of Fame ceremonies, Mickey Gilley, LuLu Roman, Barbara Fairchild, Joanne Cash (Johnny Cash's sister), Terry Smith (wrote Far Side Banks of Jordan for Johnny & June Carter Cash), and over 650 pickers, players, entertainers, and performers of traditional country music at this year's celebration.  It last seven days, starting on Aug. 26, going through Sept. 1, which is Boxcar's birthday.  There's ten stages to accommodate the many performers from 9am to midnight every day."
America's Country Music Hall of Fame is located in the Pioneer Music Museum at Anita, Iowa.  "It will be a real treat to put Boxcar Willie in the Hall of Fame," Everhart noted, "dirty face, overalls, a floppy hat, and all.  'Real-deal' country music has been diminished by today's so-called watered down country music.  Tom Petty recently said today's country music is really 'bad rock and roll with a fiddle."  I guess I wouldn't go that far in describing what the media calls it,  but I do know that Boxcar Willie, and Boxcar Willie Jr., are the 'real-deal' when it comes to authentic country music.  I hope Marty has enough time to visit that same railroad crossing near Lincoln, Nebr., that his dad did.  Who knows, there might be another great country song there."
