NEW ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Breelan Angel

NEW ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Breelan Angel

You’re a strong young woman who loves going out with friends. Yet you know that even this simple plan can be like weaving between roadblocks, many of them strangers asking for your phone number.
Breelan Angel’s It’s My Turn offers a map through this obstacle course. Produced by Dwight Baker for MisBhavin’ Records, it suggests that empowerment is a major draw to the “girls’ night out” experience, whether as a declaration of well-earned independence on the title cut (written by Angel, Greg Barnhill and Joanna Cotten), anticipation of an upcoming San Marcos, Texas, idyll in “Feeling No Pain” (Angel and Clay Mills), a confrontation with a rival for her man’s attention on “Walk of Shame” (Angel and Shane Stevens) or going face-to-face with a barfly who’s being just a little too friendly on “Real Good Night” (Angel and Rachel Thibodeau).
But that last song is deceptive: When the beat slows and stops and Angel speaks directly to the guy, her message is optimistic about what may — or may not — follow. It’s more about hope than hostility. Her treatment of this encounter is surprising — and assuring. The Baytown, Texas, native appears to be co-writing from experience on each of these 10 tracks. (Of course, Angel could have written as well about the time she spent at Southern Methodist University or mulling over the idea of studying law, but that somehow sounds less inspirational.) And if it’s imagination more than real-world events that underlies her songs, that says even more about her insight and empathy.
IN HER OWN WORDS
SONG YOU WOULD LOVE TO COVER
“‘Crazy,’ by Patsy Cline. I’m a sucker for the oldies!”
PET PEEVE
“I hate when people leave wet towels on the floor.”
DREAM DUET PARTNER
“Definitely George Strait. It would be the biggest honor to get to sing with him.”
PHRASE YOU FIND YOURSELF SAYING OVER AND OVER
“’Good goat’ – it’s something I always say instead of ‘good grief’ or ‘oh, my gosh.’”
TITLE FOR YOUR AUTOBIOGRAPHY
Glass Half Full.”

VINCE GILL & PAUL FRANKLIN'S Bakersfield

MCA RELEASES
VINCE GILL & PAUL FRANKLIN'S Bakersfield

Album an Affectionate Salute to the Music of Buck Owens, Merle Haggard

Road to Bakersfield Website Enables Fans to Picture and Post Themselves as Band Members

Nashville, TN--July 30, 2013--With the release today of Vince Gill and Paul Franklin’s album Bakersfield, fans are transported to one of the most glorious periods in country music history.  And to heighten their listening experience, an interactive website--http://www.roadtobakersfield.com/--has been specially designed to immerse fans personally
in the sights and styles of those turbulent times.

Bakersfield is Gill and steel-guitarist Franklin’s tribute to the early music of Buck Owens and
Merle Haggard, both of whom fashioned their distinctive sounds while playing the clubs and honky tonks of Bakersfield, California.  Unlike the more sedate sounds then spinning out of Nashville, West Coast country music tended to be raw, urgent, amplified and unfiltered.
Gill, a 20-time Grammy winner and member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, and Franklin, a 13-times recipient of the Academy of Country Music’s steel guitar player of the year award, grew up riveted to Owens’ and Haggard’s music.  Now playing together in the superband The Time Jumpers, the two old friends decided this was the ideal time to remind the world of what it’s been missing—not by recording a sound-alike salute but by re-animating the very heart of the music with their own affectionate and reverent interpretations.

Bakersfield is a perfectly matched set of five Owens and five Haggard classics.  Owens is
represented by “Foolin’ Around,” “He Don’t Deserve You Anymore,” “Nobody’s Fool But Yours,” “But I Do” and “Together Again,” while Haggard stands forth via “Holding Things Together,” “I Can’t Be Myself,” “Branded Man,” “The Bottle Let Me Down” and “The Fightin’ Side Of Me.”

These 10 songs were originally released between 1961 and 1974, the years during which America fought a divisive war in Vietnam, witnessed the triumph of the Civil Rights movement, suffered the assassinations of John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, soared to the moon, experienced the British invasion, the Summer of Love and Woodstock and was battered by the humiliation and resignation of a president.  But in Bakersfield—if we are to believe its music—the biggest problem was heartache, and the greatest joy was falling in love.  Owens and Haggard had both these bases covered.

The RoadToBakersfield.com website is filled with features to draw fans into the Bakersfield milieu.  One application allows them to upload their own photos and then outfit themselves
either as members of Owens’ band, the Buckaroos, or Haggard’s band, the Strangers.  These sartorial adornments include bow ties, hats and belts emblazoned “Buck” and “Hag,” as well as period instruments, amplifiers and microphones. The user can then share these “amended” photos across all the social networks.  Here also are videos of Gill and Franklin discussing the making of Bakersfield, background material for the media and sales links (iTunes, Amazon, etc.) for purchasing the music.  The site will be updated weekly with new features.

KIP MOORE NO. ONE WITH "HEY PRETTY GIRL"

KIP MOORE SCORES THIRD CONSECUTIVE NO. ONE FROM DEBUT ALBUM WITH
"HEY PRETTY GIRL"

Moore Rides Wave Of Debut Album Success With PLATINUM Sales, Sold-Out Shows, National Appearances And Critical Acclaim

Nashville, TN- July 29, 2013- PLATINUM selling singer/songwriter Kip Moore's "Hey Pretty Girl" takes the top spot this week on the Mediabase country singles chart, marking his third consecutive No. one. "Hey Pretty Girl" follows the two week chart-topping smash hit "Somethin' 'Bout A Truck" and "Beer Money" off UP ALL NIGHT.   Moore's UP ALL NIGHT was the best selling debut album from any country artist released last year and the first country album released since 2008 to spawn three back to back No. one's making him only the third artist to do so in the chart's history.

"It's wild to me that it's just been over a year since we put out my first album and we have three No. one songs," said Moore.  "Writing all of these songs and seeing them come to life through the fans' eyes is humbling to say the least.  The support from them and all the great people at radio has left me speechless.  I'm almost done with the next album and I can't wait to let everyone hear some of these new tunes."

Since the release of UP ALL NIGHT, Moore has been touring the country opening for Eric Church, Brantley Gilbert and Toby Keith in addition to headlining his own shows, sometimes selling out in minutes.  From national TV appearances like TODAYLate Night with Jimmy FallonConanThe Tonight Show with Jay Leno to his first stadium slot as part of CMA Music Festival: Country's Night to Rock and a photo spread in PEOPLE Country's "Hottest Guy's" issue, Moore has captivated a loyal following in both fans and critics.

“A kind of magical cross between the songwriting talents of a Jackson Browne, the grit of a Bruce Springsteen and the twang of a Willie Nelson or Merle Haggard, Moore has taken the top spot when it comes to the title of one of country music’s most promising new stars.” Chicago Sun-Times

"This guy is the real deal." Entertainment Weekly

"There is fiery, urgent intensity in his voice.  His lyrics vibrate with conviction and true grit. Kip Moore is a star."  MusicRow

"…one of the best new vocalists to come down the pike (or, in Moore's case, Interstate 75) in quite some time."
Billboard

This fall, Moore will join Lady Antebellum for their TAKE ME DOWNTOWN TOUR 2013 kicking-off Nov. 8 in Southaven, MS covering 40+ dates through December.  For a full list of tour dates and more information, visit www.kipmoore.net

Jason Sturgeon Puts New Spin on a Classic- “Angel Eyes”

Country Rocker Jason Sturgeon
Puts New Spin on a Classic- “Angel Eyes”

Nashville, TENN (July 29, 2013) – Toolpusher Records’ Jason Sturgeon is proud to release his new single, “Angel Eyes,” the second single from his sophomore album, “Cornfields & Coal” set to be released on September 10, 2013.

This heartfelt and sincere ballad has always struck a chord with Sturgeon who found himself writing with Fred Koller, co-writer of the 1989 Jeff Healey classic hit which is at country radio now.

"Jason captures the spirit of the song with a fresh interpretation of Angel Eyes.  I'm proud to hear his new voice on my words and melodies and he has my full support on this great performance," attested Fred Koller.

“Angel Eyes” has always been one of my top five favorite songs,” said Sturgeon. “The song just stuck with me through the years…it’s always followed me.”

The video, which is the brainchild of Sturgeon himself, premiered today across CMT.com, CMT Mobile and CMT Pure. The clip follows the story of a couple who are just starting out and beginning to fall in love.  To see a preview of the new video click here.

Leslie Fram, Senior Vice President of Music Strategy at CMT has this to say about Sturgeon’s spin on the song, ‘’Jason turns this classic song into a timeless treasure.”

“'Angel Eyes' is kind of a sexy song,” said Sturgeon. “The guy is so lucky to have this woman and he’s telling her. I really wanted the video to be a visual depiction of a man’s devotion and gratitude for this woman.  It’s kind of a mix between Chris Isaak’s ‘Wicked Game’ and ‘The Notebook.’”

Sturgeon has been tirelessly writing and recording since the release of his debut CD THAT’S ME. His sophomore effort is intertwined with more stories of the Indiana native's life and reveals a softer side of the singer-songwriter.

“The last few years have really been a blur and I've enjoyed every minute of it,” admits Jason, laughing. We’ve been busy on the road and my songwriting always tends to mirror my life.”
