Sommernachtsfest in Egg / Flawil CH

Sommernachtsfest in Egg / Flawil CH

See you and keep it Country Eure Angie

Jackson Thatcher Makes CMA Music Fest Debut

Jackson Thatcher Makes CMA Music Fest Debut
Instrumentalist Set To Perform Music From

Debut CD,
The Path, At Two Shows This Week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 7, 2013) - Teenage guitar prodigy Jackson Thatcher is making his performance debut at the schedule of events surrounding the 2013 CMA Music Festival, presented through Sunday by the Country Music Association. Thatcher is scheduled to play today at the recently-opened Black Dog Market in Franklin and at the famed Douglas Corner Cafe on Saturday as part of the Southern Trace Songwriters Showcase. In addition to songs from his debut CD, The Path, the instrumentalist will perform signature musical arrangements.

"I was born in Nashville, so I've known about the CMA Music Fest my entire life," Thatcher says. "To get a chance to play in a couple of shows going on while so many people are in town to hear great music is really sweet. I'm definitely looking forward to it."

Both shows have been organized by Don Swartz of Southern Trace Songwriters.

"Jackson has impressed me very much," Swartz says. "His talent is God-given, but he also has impressed me with his character. The future for Jackson is bright, there's no question. People need to get to know his name, because they'll be hearing it."

Tonight, Thatcher kicks off a line up at 5:30 p.m. that also includes Kerry Leigh, Zak Shaffer and Dustin Craig. Cover for the Black Dog Market show is $5.

The show at Douglas Corner (2106 8th Ave S, Nashville) begins at 6 p.m. and continues until midnight Saturday with a line up of musicians that includes Thatcher,
Steve Mastro, Tommy Welton, Allison Bray, Jessie Kohut, Donna Frost and Band, Alicia Michilli, Dustin Craig, Bedhed and Blondy, Kerri Leigh. Zak Shaffer, Mississippi Millie and others. Tickets: $6 in advance at Douglas Corner; $10 at the door.

Thatcher released his debut CD, The Path, a collection of instrumental songs written by the then-14-year-old, on February 19.

A student of guitar virtuosos Pete Huttlinger and Mike Bauer, Thatcher is garnering accolades from the music community, both within and outside of Nashville.

"...From the first notes I heard him play, maybe a year or two ago, yeah, Jackson, I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but you're a freak of nature! And I say that with all due respect. But it's true man, I just can't wait to hear what this guy keeps coming up with." Jason Scheff, lead singer, bass player, legendary band Chicago.

"In all my years as a player and teacher, I've never personally known anyone so accomplished at his age as 14-year-old guitarist, Jackson Thatcher," says Mike Bauer, solo artist who has also played with Pam Tillis, Little Big Town, Bo Diddley and others. "His debut CD, The Path, is a beautifully composed and performed project. The Path showcases his acoustic guitar style which has a wonderful blend of both technical prowess and heart with a writing style that's both groovy and optimistic."

Thatcher recorded The Path, which was produced by Jay Thatcher, with capital raised through the innovative Kickstarter "crowd-funding" business model. In return for contributing financially to make the CD possible, fans received pre-release copies of the CD, YouTube thank you videos from Jackson Thatcher, and other rewards.

Thatcher's acoustic guitar influences include Andy McKee, Sungha Jung, Tommy Emmanuel and his mentor Pete Huttlinger. On acoustic guitar, Thatcher incorporates the fingerpicking style of Huttlinger with the percussive style of McKee. His electric guitar influences are Pat Metheny, Joe Satriani and his mentor Mike Bauer. Thatcher recently was featured as a soloist with the Cool Springs Youth Orchestra performing songs by Pat Metheny and Elton John.

Thatcher has performed at multiple venues in Nashville and the surrounding area including Tin Roof Nashville, Puckett's 5th and Church, The Factory at Franklin, The Red House, Mellow Mushroom, Franklin Mercantile, Trevecca Nazarene University, Mama Java's, Nolensville Feed Mill, the Broken Wheel Festival, Buttercup Festival and others.

Thatcher, a rising high school sophomore from Nolensville, Tenn., also is an assistant teacher at Nolensville Guitar Academy. He has been studying guitar since he was 10 years old.

KICKIN’ IT COUNTRY

KICKIN’ IT COUNTRY

The two or three kick-off events prior to the CMA Fest have now blossomed into two or three days of kick-off events.  The traditional fan club parties, countless concerts, club performances, benefits and games seemed to appear out of nowhere to envelop the honky-tonk district in Music City, much to the delight of thousands of fans who descended upon the city from all over the world.

Starting with two breakfasts, one at the Nashville Palace with Mel Tillis, Bill Anderson, Jean Shepard and Charley Pride and then Easton Corbin, Lonestar, Eric Paslay and Drake White at the Country Music Hall of Fame, it was off to the Ryman Auditorium.  Family and friends of the man in black celebrated the issuance of the Johnny Cash postage stamp with a concert featuring Marty Stuart, the Oak Ridge Boys, The Roys, Randy Travis, Jamey Johnson and John Schneider who treated the audience to “A Boy Named Sue”.

Under raindrops that failed to deter the onlookers, the Kick-Off Parade brought us Kix Brooks (of Brooks and Dunn) as the Grand Marshall with Lynn Anderson, Meghan Linsey, Lorrie Morgan and Pam Tillis, Cowboy Troy, Danielle Peck and the magnificent Clydesdale horses.

The Celebrity Go-Go Go-Kart and Mini Golf Challenge is an annual favorite fan event for Bo Bice and Bucky Covington, and Craig Campbell held a corn hole championship with Jerrod Niemann.

There were lines, lines and more lines encompassing the Bridgestone Arena for the live broadcast of the annual CMT Awards, whether it was for entry, for seat and mosh pit fillers or for red carpet sightings.  Miranda Lambert and Florida-Georgia Line each took home two trophies and Carrie Underwood‘s video of the year, “Blown Away“ was the unanimous favorite.  An opening “American Woman“, with Lenny Kravitz and Jason Aldean, lead the way for great performances throughout the evening, especially that of Little Big Town and Keith Urban with a surreal cover of Fleetwood Mac‘s “The Chain“.

The evening was actually just beginning as the Awards ceremony came to an end.  Upon leaving the arena, we found ourselves showered with streamers and in the middle of a flash mob of a few hundred dancers celebrating Ronnie Dunn’s new release as he performed atop Rippy’s Restaurant across the street (where the WannaBeatles had once performed for the anniversary of the Beatles rooftop Abbey Road concert).  Videos of his new music, which included “Country This”, were projected onto the roof of the Ryman Auditorium across the street and other venues nearby.  Then, if you were not on your way to the Warner After Party with The Farm or heading for the Marty Stuart Late Night Jam until 3 a.m. at the Ryman Auditorium with the Oak Ridge Boys and the Mavericks, then you had to be at the “Duke after Dark” show at the Silver Dollar Saloon on Second Avenue with John Schneider, one of our finest genuine country singers (and well-known Duke of Hazzard), who told stories about co-writing and playing pool with Johnny Cash.

Concerts, concerts and more concerts are now on the agenda as the fans prepare for the Riverfront Stage and LP Field events after long days collecting autographs in the new Music City Center.  Tomorrow is another day….
