Kenny Chesney Rocks “No Shoes Nation”

Kenny Chesney Rocks “No Shoes Nation” -- Kicks Off 2013 Tour with 26 Song Set at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium

Tampa, FL: They were waving pirates flags in Section 303 and 334, at the top of Raymond James Stadium when the lights came up and Kenny Chesney strode to the mic to kick off his 2013 tour in the home of the Buccaneers. For the next two-plus hours, Chesney played old songs, his brand new song and some real surprises.
“We’ve been waiting to get back out here, and it felt gooood,” Chesney said. “It was our third time coming to Tampa to kick off the tour, and there’s a reason. It’s Florida… It’s warm… It’s near the ocean… and these fans are just off the chain.”
They passed license plates that said “No Shoes” and “Nation,” high school yearbooks and oversized pirate flags to the stage. They sang along to “You & Tequila,” “Everybody Wants To Go Heaven,” “Anything But Mine” and “Out Last Night.” They got to see Kacey Musgraves duet with Chesney on the #1 “Come Over.” They were thrilled to hear No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem’s “On The Coast of Somewhere Beautiful” and an all-alone moment for the intimate “Old Blue Chair.”
With spring training underway, ESPN analyst Jon Gruden, Philadelphia Phillies pitchers Roy Halladay and Cole Hamels, as well as Yankee Kevin Youkils and USC 4 year quarterback Matt Barkley, whose awaiting the NFL draft, joined 47,492 members of the No Shoes Nation for the start of another season on the road for the man who’s sold over a million tickets each of his past 10 tours.
“We brought back some songs we’ve not done in a while, like ‘How Forever Feels,’ stripped things back a bit for ‘You & Tequila’ and even pulled out one no one in the band saw coming with ‘Old Blue Chair’,” he said of the tour’s first show. “It was as fluid as it’s ever been – and the music really took us places tonight. Trusting the music, and the fans, is a big part of it.”
Joining Chesney for the first night was CMA Album of the Year winner Eric Church, who turned in a set that was as intense as it was crowd-rallying. Texas’ Academy of Country Music award winners the Eli Young Band and acclaimed newcomer Kacey Musgraves also did sets that drew out the crowd.
“I think this is one of the best packages we’ve had. It’s very progressive, very music and very much about connecting with the fans. I think it’s going to be an incredible summer.”
With “Pirate Flag” racing up the Country Singles chart, the singer/songwriter from Luttrell, Tennessee is getting ready to release Life On A Rock April 30.Largely written by Chesney, it is a reflective album that considers the friends we make, the mark they leave and the reasons living life to the hilt is so worth doing.

Country and Hip Hop with a Gospel Message

Whosoever South Blends Country and Hip Hop with a Gospel Message on Debut Album “Goin’ Home”
Album drops May 14th. Debut Single, “Where We From,” is available now at iTunes.

(NASHVILLE, Tennessee) -- Straight out of southern Georgia, Whosoever South blends country and hip hop with a Gospel message on their debut album, Goin’ Home, due May 14th from Pit Bull Productions. Produced by Asaf Fulks (Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne, Tyga, Courtney Stodden), Goin’ Home can only be classified as a genre all it’s own: Country Crunk.

Whosoever South combines street savvy influences like TobyMac and Lecrae with country and bluegrass styles similar to the T Bone Burnett-produced O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack, for an unconventional but infectious bass-thumping sound that serves as the catalyst for a dynamic ministry already making a major impact throughout the south.

Husband and wife Rowdy Eunice and Sarah Eunice along with longtime musical partner Mike Mitchell make up Whosoever South. While the group is firmly rooted in ministry, their beginnings were not as well-intentioned. A decade ago, the trio was involved in a regionally successful mainstream act known as Solid Ground, and they were opening for major artists such as Kanye West, Outkast, Ciara and Goodie Mob. Major record labels were interested in moving forward, but the group’s personal lives were spiraling out of control.

“It was so close to breaking big that it was scary,” Rowdy says of Solid Ground. “But many of the people we were in business with wound up dead or in prison and all of that fell apart, which wound up saving our lives in more ways than one.”

As everyone was separately sobering up from the world of parties, drugs and music industry excesses, Rowdy and Sarah found themselves in church by 2006, where they dedicated their lives to Christ. Mike eventually found his way there as well. Despite being on the verge of stardom prior to becoming born again, music was the furthest thing from their minds as they dug deep into the word and simply strove to get their lives on track. But God had other goals for the longtime collaborators.

In 2008, the trio reunited as Whosoever South, which was inspired by John 3:16 and Romans 10:13, coupled with a nod to their southern roots. After hundreds of concerts and a large regional fan base, the group is finally stepping into the national spotlight with their full-length album, Goin’ Home.

“It’s like a genre all its own because we don’t fit into any one genre,” says Rowdy of the group’s sound. “It’s not really been done before, but it’s not all that complicated either. It’s just a combination of good music: country, bluegrass, gospel and rap music all mixed together.”

A perfect example is the lead single “Where We From,” which talks about the group’s unceasing work ethic amidst a simple southern lifestyle filled with dirt roads, farms and good old-fashioned food. On a more evangelistic note, “All The Time” is a bluegrass/gospel/country stomper encouraging believers to let their light shine, while the title track is a down home jam with an equally assertive message.

“When we wrote Goin’ Home, we wanted to get that old bluesy type of feel from back in the day,” says Rowdy. “We wanted to remind listeners that this world is not our home and that one day we’ll leave here and go to our final destination. Hopefully it will be a reminder to not get caught up in the stresses of daily living, but a reminder that we’re just passing through.”

Mike Aiken Releases Sixth Studio Album CAPTAINS & COWBOYS April 22

Mike Aiken Releases Sixth Studio Album CAPTAINS & COWBOYS April 22

Well-Traveled Virginia Troubadour Brings Chivalric Code To Wide Open Spaces And The High Seas

Aiken cover
Produced by Dan Baird, Ben Strano, Mike Aiken
Norfolk, VA  -- Well-traveled Virginia troubadour Mike Aiken may well have been born in the wrong century.  An inner sense of chivalry oozes from every track on CAPTAINS & COWBOYS, his sixth studio album on Northwind Records, which issues April 22.  As the title track says, "Save the babies, kiss the ladies, having drinks with my friends" is a code Mike lives by.  Aiken also addresses global environmental issues, love, loss and personal freedom in this conceptualized offering.

Aiken has drawn tales - and hope - from "trail riders, aging rodeo champs, sea captains, Rastafarians and outlaws on the lamb" and crafted a disc that draws the threads of these independent spirits together.  This is the first effort on which Aiken opted for outside production assistance, drawing upon the talents of Dan Baird (Georgia Satellites) and Ben Strano (Jack Sundrud/Poco).  The result gives the listener a remarkably clear vision of Mike as an artist.

"Dan and Ben really 'got' the appeal that old silver screen heroes, singing cowboys and swashbuckling sailors have always held for me," Mike notes.  "That gave me the freedom to focus on the songs," he adds.  It also allowed him to "gel" with the other pickers on the project.  Players like Dan Dugmore on pedal steel (James Taylor, Little Big Town), Tammy Rogers on fiddle and mandolin (Grammy-nominated SteelDrivers), the multi-talented Michael Webb on accordion, bass, B3 (Poco) and Michael Grando on drums (Todd Snider, Chris Knight) left their comfort zones behind and played fearlessly without a net.  Aiken brought his signature acoustic, awesome electric slide and his rich baritone guitar to the mix.

With the warmth of Lightfoot, the earthiness of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and the unerring timing of Billy Joe Shaver, Aiken's vocals are uninhibited on his own sweetly vibrant "Virginia" and Country Joe McDonald's poignant lament "Save The Whales."  The title track crackles with a longing for the old West and the open sea, while the earth-shattering "Coal Train" (Mike Aiken, Larry Berwald) sadly outlines the destruction of our shrinking Appalachian mountains.  "Get Down River" (Brian Henneman) highlights the challenges of living hand-in-hand with Mother Nature, while Aiken's "Bring Out The Bourbon" recalls late night communions with ex-pats found around the globe.  Other writers contributing to the project include: Tim Buppert, Michael Burton, Austin Cunningham, Brad Davis and Steve Williams.

"There's not a song on this project that doesn't fit," Aiken explains.  "The album was two years in the making.  I'd written many tunes during that time but not many made it onto this record.  They weren't bad, but the fit wasn't right," he adds. A writer of enormous depth, Mike knows whereof he speaks: he has lived on a sailboat for the past 20 years, sailed across oceans as a USCG-licensed captain, raised horses and made his living as a farrier.  His inspirations and talent come together on this seminal CD that should move Mike to the forefront of the Americana/Roots movement.  So saddle up, put sail to the wind and enjoy this ride with him.

May 2 - Aalborg, Denmark - Trekanten Culturehouse

May 4 - Buehl, Germany  - International Buehler Bluegrass Festival

For Lee and Elaine, these special dates represent a dream come true - and a good chance to dip their feet into the bigger global pond.  "To say we are excited about going to Europe is an understatement," notes Elaine.  "We are counting down the days!"  The siblings believe that music is the universal language and hope that their music will resonate with the audiences overseas.  "We want to show them that we love what we do and that we feel blessed to do it."

The two are studying some key phrases in Dutch and German, and Lee is looking forward to the challenge of driving on the "other" side of the road.  "Elaine's scared to death of my driving here," Lee admits with a laugh.  "I can't wait to see how fast she buckles up once I'm behind the wheel over there."

Lee and Elaine regularly perform over 150 dates a year across the U.S. and in Canada at venues ranging from festivals to more intimate music halls.  They have become a favorite at Country Thunder and are honored to have performed at Bluegrass Nights At The Ryman, CMA Music Festival and the Tamworth Music Festival (Australia).  THE ROYS have shared the stage with Bluegrass and Country legends and newcomers alike, including: George Jones, Ricky Skaggs, Lady Antebellum, Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton, Doyle Lawson, Rhonda Vincent and many others.

Recently, the duo has been in the studio putting the finishing touches on their upcoming CD which is due in stores this summer.  Their sophomore disc for Rural Rhythm Records, NEW DAY DAWNING (2012), debuted at Number 2 on the BILLBOARD Bluegrass Albums Chart in early September and two weeks later climbed to Number 1 on Amazon's Bluegrass Best Sellers list.  The EP is currently on the BLUEGRASS UNLIMITED MAGAZINE Top 15 Chart and is one of SiriusXM BLUEGRASS JUNCTION's most played albums.

Born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts and raised across the border in New Brunswick, Canada, Lee and Elaine come from a unique musical family.  Surrounded by song from their earliest memories, the siblings have become one of the hottest acts on the Bluegrass/Roots/Country scene.  Last October, THE ROYS were named Inspirational Country Music's Bluegrass Artist of the Year (2012).  They were previously honored with that award in 2011 and dubbed the organization's Duo of the Year in 2010 and 2009.  The twosome have enjoyed success at radio and are the Bluegrass darlings of the media.  They've appeared on CBS This Morning, Marie, Fox & Friends, Daytime, Daily Buzz, The Better Show and more.  Additionally, they have appeared on the PBS programs Pa's Fiddle: Charles Ingalls, American Fiddler and Song of the Mountains, RFD-TV's Reno's Old Time Music Festival, CMC Australia/Sky TV-U.K. and Bluegrass Mountains TV Show.
