ON THE ROAD WITH THE EVERHARTS MARCH 17. 2013

ON THE ROAD WITH THE EVERHARTS

"When we left the Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation RV Park," Bobbie Lhea Everhart, Bob & Sheila's daughter said, "driving along the off-the-beaten-path road, no one knows how old, there was an absolutely huge black racer snake on the road.  Dad slowed down so as not to hurt it, and it scurried into the nearby swamp, but it was a little scary."
"We're just about finished with our four month performance tour of Florida." Bob Everhart, of the Bob & Sheila Smithsonian Duo said.  "Contrary to what one of our musician friends here in Florida told us, as we were setting the tour up, that 'he knew absolutely no one who would book an old-time music act, much less pay them,' has pretty much been discredited.  We've played nearly every weekend we've been in Florida, and those couple that we haven't, we played during the week.  We just finished performing at the Manatee Village Heritage Festival in Bradenton, and it was a wonderful experience for us.  The local ABC television station filmed us and showed it on the 6:30pm, and 11:30pm news.  This particular event is in an old-time restored 'village' from the past, so our music, the Florida historical heritage, and the large number of visitors present made for a really enjoyable day for all of us. The sponsors, the city of Bradenton, liked our act so much they even paid us more than the agreed upon contract price.  Our CD sales have been very good too, ever since we've been in Florida, especially our Smithsonian CD's.  We only have one more gig left, that's at the very prestigious Willow Theater in Boca Raton.  Located in Sugar Sand Park, this theater normally has classical music, opera, even ballet, however the 'open-minded' Director has included us in their regular "Afternoons At The Willow."  We're on Tuesday, March 19, 1pm.  Tickets are $7, so if you can come, come early as they frequently sell out.  This same week they are also featuring the play 'Chicago' as well as an 'Evening with the Opera.'  We really like the way they promoted us on their website, very nice to say the least."
"I'm really caught up in the 'march to regain traditional country music' that will take place in Nashville on April 17," Bob added, "but we have a show at the Oak Tree Performance Center on April 19, and I'm not sure I can get all the 'business' taken care of.  It's our first 'show' of the season, April 19-20-21, a kind of mini-festival of old time rural music, and there's just a ton of incredibly talented performers on the entire weekend, so that's where my first obligation is.  We'll see."
"Dad has an interesting way of finding a budget lunch for us," Bobbie Lhea added.  "The hamburgers and hotdogs at the Manatee Village Heritage Festival were cheap, so of course he calls that a budget lunch.  I'll be glad when we can get back to a Wendy's, at least I can get a salad there."

FRANK IFIELD PRESENTED LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

FRANK IFIELD PRESENTED LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD @ CANBERRA COUNTRY MUSIC FESTIVAL

Country music million seller Frank Ifield was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Canberra Country Music Festival.    As the first performer to have 3 consecutive number 1 chart hits in Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand, as well as numerous other Top 40 hits across Europe and North America in the 1960s.   Frank will always be associated with the songs “I Remember You”, “Lovesick Blues” and “She Taught Me How To Yodel” amongst many others.

Born in Coventry, England to Australian parents, Frank relocated when he was 11 years to a farm just west of Sydney.   Growing up he listened to country music while milking the cows and imitating the vocal and yodel style of country stars like Hank Snow.   At the age of thirteen won a live radio talent competition, scored a contract with EMI and recorded "Did You See My Daddy Over There?".   By the age of 19 was the number one recording star in Australia and New Zealand and had his own country music television show “Campfire Favourites” from when he returned to Britain.

Frank was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Canberra Country Music Festival Director Kelvin Fahey.   Upon receiving the award Frank elaborated on his early days promoting his records on radio and television during the times of emerging Beatlemania, as well as his approach to selecting and recording new songs.

The Lifetime Achievement Awards is in addition to his Medal of the Order Of Australia for services to the arts as an entertainer, Country Music Roll of Renown in Tamworth, TIARA for services to Australian country music, Best British Male Vocalist International Country Music Awards and Male Entertainer of the Year by the International Country Music Association of America.   These days Frank is active in promoting emerging country music artists as patron of the Music & Arts Talent Search as well as the International Spur Award given to Australian Country Music artists who have international potential.

Mr Frank Ifield we salute you in your lifetime of service to country music!

WILL BANISTER RETURNS

WILL BANISTER RETURNS
Clovis, New Mexico singer/songwriter set for festival appearances

Will Banister, the highly acclaimed singer/songwriter from Clovis, New Mexico, continues his fast developing international career with a return to the UK this Easter.

He’s set to be one of the headlining acts at the 10th Northern Nashville Country Music Festival in Halkirk, Scotland, staged over the Easter weekend (March 29-31), sharing the bill with Connie Smith, Bobby Flores, Kimberley Murray and Bob Manning among other US and UK artists.

Banister will make his appearance on Good Friday (29), then heads south to Watton, Norfolk where he played a sell-out concert on his debut UK tour in September 2012. This time he plays the Queen's Hall on Sunday, March 31.

“I’m really looking forward to returning to Britain  he says.“The British country music fans love real country music. They made me very welcomed, listening to me and my songs. I hope to make a lot more friends this time around”.

Will Banister’s success in Britain was launched with the release of his much praised debut album Turned Her On to Country followed by a not-to-be-forgotten slot at the International Festival of Country Music, Wembley (February 26, 2012) where his six song set brought the audience to its feet, ensuring that he wouldn’t leave the stage without an encore. The response brought him back to London for a especially request performance at Channel 5’s launch party for the soap Dallas and his debut UK tour. A second cd, Turn Back Time, was released to coincide with the tour and received equally enthusiastic response as his first, creating solid press and radio support.

This month’s appearances leads on to two further festival slots – in the UK and France.

In July he returns to the UK for the Americana Festival in Newark – this year celebrating its 33rd anniversary and boasting a star line-up that includes P.J. Proby, Georgette Jones, Mandy Barnett, Carl Mann, Jay Chevalier and Moe Bandy among four dozen acts set to perform on two different stages throughout the three day event (July 12-14).

A couple of weeks later Will Banister is set to make his European debut at the Country Rendez-Vous Festival in Craponne Sur Arzon, France – a three day event (July 26-28) headlined by The Mavericks.

Currently an autumn tour is being planned, says promoter Nicky James, which may see Will Banister supporting Gene Watson. More details to be announced.
