MIKE BEHNK - What A Way To Live
One More Drink - The House Down The Block - Three Chord Country Song - Daddy's Gone Crazy - What A Way To Live - Mr. Recordman - I Never Pass There Anymore - I'll Be Dropping Out of Sight - Amanda - Undo The Right - Lonesome 77203 - Farewell Party - You're Stronger Than Me - Think I'll Just Stay Here And Drink
From the list of songs Mike Behnk picked for this recording, it's immediately apparent that he's going to do some 'classic' country music from the git-go. And he does. Behnk is one of those true-blue country vocalists who lives out in the great Sandhills of Nebraska. This is the kind of vocalist it takes today to do 'real' country music. It's necessary. You have to grow up with it. You have to have experienced it. You have to be committed and devoted. You have to love it. You have to be good enough at it to make a recording real, not just for yourself, but for everyone that listens to it. That's what Mike Behnk does with this remarkable 'real country' CD. All of those necessaries are what makes a country music CD. These are the same 'necessaries' that are so very plainly and obviously missing in today's little rich kids that pretend to be country music stars. Mike Behnk might not ever see that 'country music star' status, quite simply because he's first off, not a pretender, and second off he doesn't have the million dollars the cute little 'let's pretend we're country' artists have today to make them stars. One comparison listening to Mike Behnk and any one of the top-ten today would put the two country music styles in immediate contrast, totally. And, it would immediately put the listener onto what is 'real country' and what isn't,' and where is it today?
Mike is also smart enough to know that the trek to Nashville, to record, might absolutely not give him the 'real' deal. Instead, he teamed up with Sharon Kenaston who is the producer of this CD, as well as harmony vocals, drums, and bass fiddle. Sharon is also the master mind behind World Famous Records who put this project out. Sharon was also the deciding factor to put her husband Roger Kenaston on lead guitar. Add to that Dave Elifrits on rhythm guitar and Blaine Garrelts on steel guitar and Kevin Blom on fiddle, and you have the makings of a down-to-earth 'real-deal' country CD.
Anyone who is wishing for, looking for, wondering where it all went wrong with country music today, Mike Behnk should be the number one stop on your shopping list. You can also usually see him in person at the Wahoo Country Music Festival in Nebraska that takes place the last full weekend of June. Not just Mike Behnk, but many of the musicians that not only backed him on this recording, but also play classic and traditional country music throughout the upper midwest.
This CD has a lot of those famous 'cryin' in my beer' songs that were so famous, not so long ago, and Mike Behnk has brought them back to life in black tie and tuxedo style. 5-star thumbs up from this reviewer.

TIM MCGRAW REVEALS MORE DETAILS ABOUT HIS UPCOMING ALBUM RELEASE TWO LANES OF FREEDOM – IN STORES FEB 5, 2013
Debut Big Machine Records Disc To Include Standard & An Accelerated Deluxe Version At Most Retail Accounts
Nashville, TN- Dec. 13, 2012- Country music icon Tim McGraw is revealing more details about his highly anticipated release TWO LANES OF FREEDOM. His first album for Big Machine Records will be released on Feb. 5, 2013 and is set to prove once again that on stage and on record, he remains dedicated to delivering music that is innovative, heartfelt and authentic.
"I feel like I've progressed in my work, and I've always strived to get better," says McGraw. "On my last album, I was discovering some new sounds and new things that I wanted to do, scratching the surface of the direction I wanted to head. This album was a way to reach a little further back, to all that I'd done throughout my career, and bring both sides together—it's a combination of that discovery, along with some rediscovery."
On TWO LANES OF FREEDOM, the sense of nostalgia comes through on the hard-driving current single "One of Those Nights." The reverie of that song, though, is countered by the humor and joy of "Southern Girl" or the feel-good hangover of "Mexicoma." McGraw maintains that it was the album's title track that really established the tone for the entire project.
"When we cut 'Two Lanes of Freedom,' there was such a freshness to it," he says. "The track has this sort of Gaelic drive to it and really sets a palette for the whole record because it's so visual—it has that summery, hazy image and I think that made the whole record open up for me."
McGraw reaches some especially emotional depth in his performances on such songs as "Number 37405," the lament of a singer-turned-convict. Most powerful of all might be "Book of John," a wistful account of a family going through the journal left behind by its late patriarch. The album closes with "Highway Don't Care," a breezy yet complex track that features Taylor Swift (the song is featured as number 13 on the album as a nod to her) and Keith Urban.

In his record-shattering career, McGraw has sold over 40 million albums and dominated the charts with 32 No. one singles. Since the release of his debut album in 1993, he has won three GRAMMY’s, 14 ACM Awards, 12 CMA Awards, and 10 AMA’s, while simultaneously maintaining a parallel career as a successful actor in such films as The Blind Side, Country Strong, and Friday Night Lights—as well as hosting Saturday Night Live, a rare honor for a singer in any genre. Nielsen-BDS recently certified McGraw as the most-played Country artist of the past 20 years (1992-2012) with more than 10 million spins detected and Mediabase recognized him as the most-played Country artist in the history of their tracking service.

Todays newsletter comes from Dave Thomas. His reply to my previous newsletter is brilliant as far as Im concerned. Bob, Thanks for your newsletter and ideas for "breaking out of the rut," we often create for ourselves. Working for a music store, you may not be able to offer these suggestions, without them sounding self-serving, but one way I've found to stimulate my playing, interest, keep me practicing and learning is to simply, "go out and buy a new guitar." Seriously, try it, and I've worked in more than a few retail music stores!! How long have you been driving an automobile? Decades I bet; but remember the last "new" car you bought? Whether it was a beat to death, oil burning, 4-door sedan; or a brand new, luxury van to haul your equipment; for the first six months, you washed it weekly, rotated the tires, changed the oil religiously, and read the owners manual cover to cover. It was your pride & joy. After a year, it became just transportation, and after five years; that windshield chip, the rust on the fender, the noise when you turned left...well, they didn't seem that big an issue. New cars, like new guitars, need only be "new to you" to re-stimulate your interest in using them. In fact, it need not be a new car or guitar...often a repair or new accessory will do the trick. Get tires, an alignment & tune-up...fix the chipped windshield, repair the rusted fender and replace the worn out brake rotor...and see how much more you enjoy driving that five year old gas guzzler. Similarly for guitars, try a new effect pedal, stomp box or amp...get an inexpensive lap steel, add a knee lever, learn the C6 neck, or even if you've played and taught for 40 years, take some lessons...and see how much more interesting it becomes to play, practice & learn the guitar. A couple other ideas? 1) Teach. Most of us do, or at some time, have taught. It need not be teaching Stairway to Heaven to 30 teenagers a week, in black Metallica T-shirts at some national chain music store. Nor does it need be a lifetime commitment, or pay union scale for an hour lesson. Choose your venue...private lessons, group lessons, seminars, workshops, online video, whatever... Prepare for the lesson, take pride in the skills you've acquired and often; the benefit you receive, will far outweigh the effort and service you have provided. 2) Play unorthodox jobs. Mirroring your recommendation to sit in with bands that play differently than your normal style, try playing other, previously unfamiliar venues. Too often, when we play for a living, it becomes "just a living-what's it pay, can I get leader or doubling fees, whos the contractor, will they pay mileage or per diem?" I'm not advocating setting up on lower Broadway with a tip jar, spending every Sunday afternoon playing nursing homes, convincing the symphony that your rendition of "Yackety Axe" would be a hit for their Pops series or hitting the wedding circuit with "Trumpet Voluntair" or "Canon in D by Pachabel." Instead, grab a couple friends, and provide school convocations...funding cutbacks have nearly eliminated field trips, and often the arts in education. Call a prison and see if you can play a free concert...you'll never find a more appreciative audience. Solicit and play MPTF jobs at the lunch hour...shucks, go back home for an evening and play hymns for an elderly parent. Playing unorthodox jobs is not about a studio player, switching to roadwork and stage performances. It's about getting us out of the rut, and like teaching; the benefit you receive, will far outweigh the effort and service you have provided. “Chris & I are excited to announce that our Christmas gift has arrived a little early this year! We are having a BABY! We feel so blessed!!!”
According to The Boot due to the Hillary’s bundle of joy likely arriving around June, it appears some fans will miss out on seeing Lady A on the road next summer. Concerts the trio had already scheduled for summer 2013 have now been wiped off their calendar.

Lennon and Maisy Stella, real life sisters who play the daughters of Connie Britton’s Rayna James character, will perform their original Christmas song, “Christmas Coming Home,” on Good Morning America on Thursday. Thursday is also Maisy’s 9th birthday. The pair will then make their Grand Ole Opry debut at the historic Ryman Auditorium on Saturday.
“My birthday is on Thursday and I was excited about that,” Maisy said. “Now, we’re getting to perform on GMA and sing for the first time on the Grand Ole Opry…what a week!”
“It’s been a roll of really cool and exciting things happening for us lately,” Lennon, 13, said. “We are going to take a deep breath and make sure we soak it all in. Everything is happening so fast and we are beyond thankful!

CMT is celebrating a new year with big premieres on Jan. 26 when season three of My Big Redneck Vacation debuts, followed by the series premiere of Guntucky.
The Clampets have wreaked havoc on the Hamptons, befriended the British and now they're traveling across the U.S. to spread some all-American, redneck love in the all-new season of My Big Redneck Vacation. Tom Arnold returns as host of the hit series, following the family on their cross-country road trip as they journey to new places: Miami's South Beach; Washington, D.C.; Mount Rushmore in South Dakota; a dude ranch in Colorado; Area 51 in Nevada; a Native American Indian reservation in the Grand Canyon and more. The family explores new cultures and values throughout the 13-episode season, leaving their redneck stamp on each postcard destination along the way. New episodes of My Big Redneck Vacation will premiere weekly at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
The 10-episode series Guntucky follows the three generations of the Sumner family who run Knob Creek Gun Range in Knob Creek, Ky. At the range, it's up to the family to keep things running smoothly as customers use, try out, purchase and sell weapons across a broad spectrum of firearms -- from cannons to machine guns.
