Two-Hour Special Tapes Nov. 3 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville Featuring Performances by Dierks Bentley, Colbie Caillat, Katherine Jenkins, Lady Antebellum, John Legend, Little Big Town, Martina McBride, Scotty McCreery, Nettles, The Band Perry, and Keith Urban
Nashville Audience Encouraged to Bring an Unwrapped Toy to the Taping to Make the Holidays Brighter for Children in Need
NASHVILLE – Some of the most powerful and emotionally moving voices in music come together to celebrate the holidays on “CMA Country Christmas,” which tapes in front of a live audience Saturday, Nov. 3 (7:30 PM/CT) at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn. The special, which features Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland as host for the third year, airs this holiday season on the ABC Television Network.
"I am so excited to be hosting this year and I love inviting the audience to get into the spirit of the season by bringing a toy for donation! It is such a joy to watch this holiday special grow — in not only its talent roster, but moreover in its charitable celebration of the season,” Nettles said.
“It is important to all of us that there is a charitable component to everything we do,” said Robert Deaton, Executive Producer of “CMA Country Christmas.” “Utilizing the Christmas special taping as an opportunity to shine a light on a worthy endeavor is a perfect opportunity to give back to the community and reflects the values and heart of our industry and this city.”
Artists scheduled to perform and celebrate the season with songs and stories include Dierks Bentley, Colbie Caillat, Katherine Jenkins, Lady Antebellum, John Legend, Little Big Town, Martina McBride, Scotty McCreery, Nettles, The Band Perry, and Keith Urban.
For the first time, audience members are being encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the taping to help make the holidays brighter for Nashville area children. The Nashville-based, non-profit group Generosity, will have volunteers on site with specially marked bins to collect the toys, which will be distributed to families in need this holiday season.
“Our artists are extremely generous and so are our fans,” said Steve Moore, CMA Chief Executive Officer. “It is our goal to make sure no child goes without a present this Christmas and we are grateful to our partners at Generosity for helping to make this a dream come true for children in Nashville.”
"After working with homeless and impoverished children for several years, Generosity is so pleased to partner with the Country Music Association to collect gifts for these precious ones,” said Bethni Hemphill, founder of Generosity. “With the wide scope of the CMA and the generous hearts of Country Music fans, we know that together we will be able to show love and care to many more children with A Gift For All."
Volunteers from Generosity will start accepting toys Saturday, Nov. 3 at 1:00 PM/CT at the Bridgestone Arena. You do not have to have a ticket to the show to drop off a toy.
According to Hemphill, the gifts will be distributed to homeless and needy children on Christmas night (Dec. 25) during a special service held under the Jefferson Street Bridge. The Bridge Ministry feeds these children and hundreds of homeless people every Tuesday night under the Jefferson Street Bridge.
Tickets for “CMA Country Christmas” are on sale now and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com or Ticketmaster outlets; by calling (800) 745-3000; or in person at the Bridgestone Arena Box Office, located at 501 Broadway (corner of Fifth Avenue and Broadway, Nashville). Tickets for “CMA Country Christmas” are $50 for Club Level and $100 for Lower Level reserved seating. Ticket prices include tax, but exclude applicable service fees.
In 2011, the premiere broadcast of “CMA Country Christmas” drew more than 9 million viewers, which was an increase of nearly 23 percent over the inaugural broadcast in 2010. Adults 18-49 increased year-to-year by nearly 50 percent. Not only were initial airings better than in the previous year, DVR playback increased, too. Total viewers who watched the show within a week of premiere increased 2 million viewers from 2010 to 2011 (9.624 vs. 7.663).

GARTH BROOKS A “GIFT”

GARTH BROOKS CITES NEW TOM SKINNER RECORD AS A “GIFT”

RARE RECORDINGS TO BE RELEASED IN NOVEMBER 2012

Nashville, TN (October 16, 2012)-Country music megastar, Garth Brooks is among the multitude of music fans anticipating the new record release from longtime friend and early band mate, Tom Skinner. Simply titled TOM SKINNER, this rare collection of original music is set to be released on November 13th on 598 Recordings, a new upstart label headed by Oklahoma music icon, Mike McClure, and partner Chance Sparkman. "I know Tom Skinner well enough to say that making a record of his original recordings was not something he was easily talked into doing and hats off to McClure for getting it done. Tom is very private with his music because the stuff that he writes is extremely personal. This is a very, VERY special gift from Tom to all of his fans...of which I am one." says Brooks.

If you talk to any artist from Oklahoma who has cut their teeth in the anomaly known as Red Dirt music, you would be hard pressed to find a single one who doesn’t contribute their well- honed craft and a portion of their success to Tom Skinner. Tom is considered one of the main pioneers, alongside of Bob Childers, of the genre, and his songs have been covered by The Great Divide, Cody Canada, The Red Dirt Rangers, Stoney Larue, and Jason Boland.  Hindsight being 20/20, when you are young, life seems to be filled with complexities and wrought with an endless barrage of tumultuous storms and a constant struggle to survive.  But when you have been on the vine long enough and your ripe years are at hand, the weather tends to do little more than roll off your back and wash you clean.  Now on the backside of 50, Tom Skinner is ripe for the picking and his new SELF-TITLED album bears the savory indigenous fruits of that rich Oklahoma soil. His singular voice sweeps down like the fabled Mr. Sandman, the voice of a true time traveler worn with rugged trails and hard-lived tales told to a fortunate few by the glow of a well burned down camp fire.  Songs that gallop with hilarity in their utter honesty and ones that invite a reflective stillness are well endowed with his plain-speaking style and well-seasoned sense of humor.  With his brand new record in hand, Tom is an old friend who has come to visit, to sit a while and recount his latest exploits well into the night.

An Okie through and through, Tom grew up in Bristow, Oklahoma and started playing music in Stillwater with his brothers during the time Garth Brooks was trying to making a name for himself.  Brooks called on Tom and his brothers to create the Sante Fe Band and after a stint of playing around the local clubs they all moved to Nashville in the pursuit of landing a record deal. As Garth was turned down by everyone in town, Tom became homesick for Oklahoma moved back home. In the late 90’s Tom found himself in Louisiana where he landed a small record deal with Binky Records and recorded two albums.  He played the Louisiana circuit for a few years and once again found himself back in Oklahoma where he became a favorite of the musicians in the Red Dirt scene and was a mainstay at the now fabled Farm, a safe haven on the outskirts of town where musicians ended up at the end of the night. It was at the Farm that Skinner met long-time friend, band mate and producer, Mike McClure, for the first time and their mutual respect and camaraderie is just as legendary as the music they have both created. Tom joined the Mike McClure Band in 2007 and has played bass ever since. McClure felt that Tom needed a definitive recording that could bring to the world what Stillwater musicians have long since known. The recording was made at the Boohatch studios in Ada with long time Skinner fan and friend Steve Ripley (the Tractors, Bob Dylan, Leon Russell). The album was produced by McClure and the legendary Joe Hardy (Steve Earle, Georgia Satellites, ZZ Top). For the first time in his life Tom Skinner is just where he wants to be doing just what he loves to do, and looking at the world through his new pair of designer rose-colored glasses.  “I’m having the time of my life!

Brad Paisley Has A Cow!

Brad Paisley Has A Cow! 99.5 WYCD-FM Detroit Morning Show Producer Steve Grunwald Delivers Singer's Namesake, "Paisley," To African Tribal Chief.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 15, 2012) This past weekend Brad Paisley sent WYCD-FM Detroit morning show producer and co-host Steve Gunwald on a mission. His goal was to purchase and deliver a cow to an African tribal chief in Kenya. Grunwald made the trip and accomplished the task by presenting a young female calf, “Paisley,” to the Chief of the Masai tribe on behalf of Paisley. The traveling saga began in 2007 when Paisley bet Grunwald that he could not travel to 10 countries in 10 days – Grunwald accepted the wager and took along a life-size Paisley cut out to document his travels with photos. Grunwald has kept in contact with some of the people he met his first trip to Africa and recently received a request to provide the Kenyan tribe a cow – something that would support the whole village for a long time. Grunwald made this known to Paisley and in a recent interview Paisley offered to fund the trip and “The Brad Paisley Cow Project” began!

Grunwald documented his entire journey through up-to-the-minute blog entries, updating fans throughout his travels. The daily blogs can be found the radio station’s website, http://wycd.cbslocal.com/tag/brad-paisley-cow-project/

DIERKS BENTLEY PLAYS IMPROMPTU SHOW FOR FANS

DIERKS BENTLEY PLAYS IMPROMPTU SHOW FOR FANS
FOLLOWING POSTPONED “MILES & MUSIC FOR KIDS”

Nashville, TN – Oct. 15, 2012 – Multi-platinum country music star Dierks Bentley made a difficult decision to postpone his seventh annual “Miles & Music for Kids” celebrity motorcycle ride and concert yesterday in Nashville, TN when high winds and storm warnings threatened the safety of riders, fans and event organizers.  Hundreds of fans from across the country, already in town for the annual event, met at the Hard Rock Café where Bentley played an impromptu set and was joined by Sheryl Crow who participated despite the cancellation of the day’s festivities.

“It was a tough call, but we had to make it for everyone’s safety,” said Bentley. “But, we still had so many fans in town who travelled, sometimes hundreds of miles to help support Vandy’s Children’s Hospital, I felt like we had to find a way to do something to thank them for their time and donations over the past seven years. We decided to run across the street, invite anyone still hanging around and before we knew it, the place was packed out. I still can’t believe Sheryl came by…she jumped in her car and came over the minute she heard it was happening.”

Since first hitting the pavement in 2006, Dierks Bentley’s “Miles & Music for Kids” celebrity motorcycle ride and concert has held 12 events in seven US cities to raise over $2 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across the country. For more information, visit www.dierks.com.

Historic Jonesborough Bluegrass Series Presents Award-Winning Night of Music with Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice, The Boxcars, Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road

Historic Jonesborough Bluegrass Series Presents Award-Winning Night of Music with Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice, The Boxcars, Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road

October 3, 2012 (Jonesborough, TN) — The Historic Jonesborough Bluegrass Series will present an award-winning night of music with Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice, The Boxcars and Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road on Saturday, October 20th. Produced by Mountain Music Entertainment and nestled in Tennessee's oldest town, the Historic Jonesborough Bluegrass Series was recently awarded the NETTA Pinnacle Award.

Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice are at the top of their game with the recent honor of two of the premier awards given by the International Bluegrass Music Association; Song of the Year for "A Far Cry From Lester And Earl" and Album of the Year for The Heart Of A Song. The awards were recently held at the historic Ryman Auditorium and were accepted by a very excited band who were treated to a standing ovation by a sold-out audience of their peers. The band has been touring across the country in promotion of their latest project on Rebel Records and have been performing to enthusiastic, sold-out audiences far and wide. "We record our music hopeing that our fans will find something about it they like and it never really occurs to us that we might win an award for it," stated Sisk. "Winning these two awards is something that I never even dreamed of, but also something I couldn't be more proud of."

The Boxcars were also big winners at the recent IBMA Awards taking home the Instrumental Group of the Year award. In addition, the band celebrated Adam Steffey's win of Mandolin Player of the Year, making him the 9-time winner of the prestigious award. Though The Boxcars are relatively new to the bluegrass scene—the band formed at the end of 2009—the members of this group have a very well respected history in bluegrass and gospel music, having worked in some of music's most popular bands including J.D. Crowe and the New South, The Isaacs and Alison Krauss and Union Station.

The evening will be rounded out by Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road who have been celebrating the recent success of their latest CD, Back To My Roots, which is topping charts worldwide and is the #1 CD on the National Bluegrass Survey this month. This veteran group has earned a reputation as one of the hardest working bands in bluegrass, averaging 60 bluegrass festivals in the U.S. and Canada annually along with headlining the Bluegrass Cruise and hosting the Canadian Bluegrass Awards. Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road’s performance is a hard driving traditional sound with invigorating instrumentals, smooth blending vocals, and all the energy that you can stand.

The  Historic Jonesborough Bluegrass Series concert will take place on October 20th at 7:00pm at the Jonesborough Visitors Center located at 117 Boone Street, Jonesborough, Tennessee. Tickets are $20/adults, $10/ETSU students with ID and children 12 and under, and may be purchased at the door the night of the show, online at www.jonesboroughtn.org or by calling 866-401-4223. In addition to Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice, The Boxcars and Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road, The Moore Brothers will also perform. Proceeds from the show will benefit the Southern Appalachian Ronald McDonald House Charities located on the campus of Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, TN. To learn more about the Ronald McDonald House, visit www.rmhsa.org. For more information on the Historic Jonesborough Bluegrass Series including a complete concert schedule, please visit www.Jonesboroughbluegrass.com
