MINNIE PEARL TO BE INDUCTED INTO AMERICA'S OLD TIME COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME

MINNIE PEARL TO BE INDUCTED INTO AMERICA'S OLD TIME COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME

(c) by Bob Phillips

If Minnie Pearl could have been with us, you can be sure it would have been a rousing 100th birthday party, with all her friends from the Grand Ole Opry in attendance.  She passed away at the age of 83 in 1996.  She was an important influence on younger female country music singers and rural humorists, and in 1992 she was ranked as number 14 on CMT's 40 Greatest Women in Country Music.  She would have had a few friends from outside her 'country music' clan at the party, including Dean Martin.  She even appeared on Martin's show, and another close friend was Pee Wee  Herman.  Paul Reubens, who played the role, made his last appearance as that character on a Minnie Pearl tribute show.
According to Bob Everhart, President of the National Traditional Country Music Association, "We tried for years to get Minnie to come to the upper Midwest to induct her into America's Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame, but our dates (the week before Labor Day Aug 27-Sept 2 this year) never coincided with her available dates, so we never got it done.  We will this year.  We will also induct Lynn Anderson as well as her mother Liz Anderson, and Tom T Hall and his wife Dixie.  We're trying hard to get Larry the Cable Guy to accept on Minnie Pearl's behalf, he was deeply influenced by her comedy, and they were close friends."
The Hall of Fame will also induct about 25 other deserving individuals from local and regional areas, as well as the national scene.  Sarah Ophelia Cannon (Minnie's real name) was deeply involved with cancer research in her last days.  After battling breast cancer through aggressive treatments including a double mastectomy and radiation therapy, she became a spokeswoman for the medical center in Nashville, which also created the Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation, in her memory.  They too, are celebrating Minnie's 100th birthday party by providing space on their website for "Minnie Moments."
Minnie's first theatrical job was with a touring company where she produced and directed plays and musicals. She met a mountain woman in Alabama, who became the basis for "Cousin Minnie Pearl."  It didn't take long for her to catch the attention of the Grand Ole Opry, and she was asked to perform on the Opry in November of 1940.  That experience lasted more than 50 years as she became a regular on the show.
According to Everhart, "We continue the tradition of Minnie's great comedy at our festival of old-time country music in LeMars, Iowa.  One of the things we do is host a 'country style' comedy contest.  Another is a direct remembrance of Minnie.  We're going to gather together as many of our audience at one time in one place, and yell Minnie's signature greeting.  This will hopefully establish a record for America's Book of World Records.  There's also going to be a Minnie Pearl free watermelon feed, and I think she'd probably like that best of all."
Everhart actually met Minnie.  "I was playing guitar behind a young fiddler, Sean Pittman from Springfield, Missouri. We were at the set of Hee Haw waiting to go on for a spot when Minnie walked by.  She saw young Sean, patted him on the head and said 'What a sweet looking little boy."  I took my hat off and offered my head but she just sniffed and walked on by."
The seven day festival Everhart directs, will host well over 650 musicians playing old-style country music acoustically on no less than ten stages.  "It's pretty amazing," Everhart added, "I believe it's something Minnie would have approved."
More information about the event is available at their website http://www.ntcma.net

Miss Anderson Love For You All

Swedish Country Rockers Miss Anderson Release Highly Anticipated Debut Digital Single "Love For You All"

July 6, 2012 - Asheville, NC - One of the most talked about Country singles of the summer is ironically not from a band out of the USA but from of all places Sweden! Miss Anderson is a Swedish rock band with influences that range from 70s and 80s rock, American west coast rock and contemporary American country music. The music is inspired by artists such as Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, the Eagles, Journey and Bon Jovi, and is described as “a rock sound spiced with country, storytelling and with straight and honest lyrics.”

The band Miss Anderson consists (despite the name) only of men: Peter Rundh and Magnus Bäcklund, and five other musicians. Peter Rundh is a guitarist, founder of Miss Anderson and the songwriter for the majority of the songs on Miss Anderson’s album that will be released in the fall of 2012. Magnus Bäcklund, who among other things has won "The Melody Festival" and as Sweden's representative came in 5th place in the Eurovision Song Contest, is Miss Anderson’s lead singer. Other musicians in the band bring solid experience to Miss Anderson through their backgrounds touring in several well-established bands in Scandinavia, Europe and the US, and their involvement in a large number of album releases.

The story of Miss Anderson has its roots in the 19th and 20th century Swedish emigration to America. Several of Peter’s relatives emigrated during this period, and his interest in the emigration has resulted in his creation of stories and music centered around a strong fictional woman he calls Miss Anderson. These stories are based on both actual and fictional accounts, and are expressed in the music and lyrics about Miss Anderson and her descendants' reflections on life from past eras up to the present time.

Peter and Magnus originally crossed paths through common interests. Magnus liked the unique music of Miss Anderson, and Peter knew that Magnus, with his strong, rocking voice, would bring the right character to his songs with both emotion and authenticity. Miss Anderson's music effects a genuine 'Americana' sound - something no other band from Sweden has gained recognition for.

The songs on the album that will be released this fall feature both songs about the character Miss Anderson’s life and times, and other songs about life in general.

The new band Miss Anderson launches its highly anticipated digital debut single, "Love For You All" in USA this week. The single will be followed by two more digital singles in the summer. In the fall the Miss Anderson album will be released as both a digital and a physical CD.

"Love For You All" is now available in Miss Anderson’s download webshop: www.MusicStoreNo1.com
It is also available on iTunes, Amazon and other digital media outlets.

Carrie Underwood Loses Title of American Idol

Carrie Underwood has lost her title as the all-time best-selling American Idol.  According to Billboard.com yesterday, July 4th, Kelly Clarkson made American Idol history as the latest sales figures from Nielsen SoundScan confirm her current hit, “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You),” to be the best-selling Idol single of all time.  She surpassed the long-time champion, “Before He Cheats by Carrie.”
Here are the numbers:
“Stronger” has sold 3,510,000 singles as of today, beating “Before He Cheats,” which has moved 3,509,000 copies since its release in 2006. “Stronger” ruled The Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks, making it Clarkson’s longest-running No. 1 (“A Moment Like This” reigned for two weeks in 2002 and “My Life Would Suck Without You” ruled for two weeks in 2009). “Stronger” went to No. 1 on 11 different Billboard charts, including Hot Digital Songs, Adult Top 40, Hot Dance Club Play and the Adult Contemporary tally, where it is in pole position for the fifth consecutive week.

Chris Young Narrowly Escapes Burning Tour Bus

Touring is a tough business, and country singer Chris Young can prove it. Just last week, the "Neon" crooner had a close call when his tour bus almost burst into flames.
According to Country Weekly, Chris and his crew were headed to a show in Charlotte, N.C. when the whole mess started. The singer's tour manager ordered everyone to evacuate the busas quickly as possible.
The fast thinking spared the crew from getting hurt, but they were still left a bit shaken up.
"It was about five seconds from being in flames," the singer recalls. "There was smoke coming out of the back of it, and it was red. We put it out with a fire extinguisher. Thank God we did."
Touring in the hot summer heat sure can wreak havoc on your ride. However, Chris says he's happy he's not apart of the "Bus on Fire Club," referring to fellow singers Jerrod Niemann, Justin Moore, Randy Houser and Lee Brice's recent bus blazes.

Chely Wright Reacts to Frank Ocean and Anderson Cooper Coming Out

In 2010, Chely Wright became the first mainstream country artist to reveal that she is a lesbian. Last year, the songstress celebrated another milestone by marrying LGBT activist and author Lauren Blitzer. Having faced the ups and downs of the public's reaction to her sexual orientation, the singer now keeps an eye on other celebrities who make the decision to "come out" to their fans, so that she can offer support.
Yesterday (July 4), Frank Ocean from the rap group Odd Future wrote on his Tumblr that his first love was man. "I can't think of a better way for Frank to celebrate Independence Day," Chely tells TMZ. "It's [spectacular]."

SECOND GENERATIONS JULY ON RFD-TV

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND--“SECOND GENERATIONS,”
TO AIR IN JULY ON RFD-TV

Country’s Family Reunion Continues to Document the Songs
and Stories of Country Music’s Legendary Family

Nashville, Tenn. (July 6, 2012) – When it comes to country music, it is hard to find a show that does a better job of documenting the legendary family tree than Country’s Family Reunion. The series “Second Generations” brings together the children of country music legends such as Marty Robbins, Conway Twitty, Faron Young, Tammy Wynette, George Jones, Roger Miller, Johnny Russell, Hank Williams, Dottie West, to share stories and the songs their parents made famous. Excerpts from “Second Generations,” will return by popular demand to RFD-TV throughout the month of July and will feature appearances by the Michael Twitty (son of Conway Twitty), Robyn Young (son of Faron Young), Jett Williams (daughter of Hank Williams), Georgette Jones (daughter of George Jones and Tammy Wynette), Dean Miller (son of Roger Miller), Ronnie Robbins (son of Marty Robbins), Shelly West (daughter of Dottie West) and MANY MORE, proving that the roots of country music run deep and talent doesn’t fall far from that tree.

The series (sic) “was named appropriately, because many there were the children of so many of our friends who had passed way too soon,” said Opry member Jan Howard. “If you had your eyes closed when these ‘kids’ were singing, it was like hearing once again the voices of Carl Smith, Faron Young, Roger Miller, Tammy Wynette, Marty Robbins”.

RFD-TV will air a new “Second Generations” show each Friday at 7 PM and Saturday at 5 AM and 11 PM in July. (All times are Central, schedule subject to change without notice—check local listings for airtimes.) For more information on “Second Generations” or to purchase the entire series on five DVDs, please visit www.cfrvideos.com or call 1-800-820-5405.

Lip-Smackin’, Toe-Tappin’ Spontaneous Good Times at
One of RFD’s Top-Rated Shows

Nashville, TN (July 6, 2012) – There may only be eighteen tables at “Larry’s Country Diner,” but it serves 1.4 million people each and every month as one of the top-rated shows on the RFD-TV network. The diner is not your ordinary restaurant, but rather a unique down-home variety show that in just over two short years has become a favorite “eatery” of country fans everywhere. Cornbread and black-eyed peas only complement the heapin’ helpin’ of country music performances served up by the stars of yesterday and today.  Larry’s Country Diner celebrates its 100th episode and continues to fans and garner national attention (with an upcoming article in TV Guide, channelguide.com and grammy.com)-- proving that America is “hungry” for this type of programming.  PFI (America’s Western Store), Crosley Radio (vintage-style radio and jukebox manufacturer) and Col. Littleton (purveyor of fine accouterments in the American Tradition) are on-going sponsors of the show. For more information on “Larry’s Country Diner,” please visit larryscountrydiner.com.
A new episode of “Larry’s Country Diner” will air each week in June on the RFD-TV network.  June’s menu of stars is a “tasty” classic line up for country music fans:
Week of:
July 5: James Gregory (Episode 100)—Tune in for this special broadcast!
July 12: Georgette Jones
June 19: The Whites
July 26: Teea Goans
All Schedules Subject to Change without Notice
Air times for “Larry’s Country Diner” are Thursday night at 7 PM CT / 8 PM ET, Friday morning at 9 AM CT / 10 AM ET, or Saturday evening at 10 PM CT / 11 PM ET.
Taped bi-monthly in front of a live studio/diner audience at NorthStar Studios (3201 Dickerson Pike, Nashville), the show’s spontaneity is part of the mystique of “Larry’s Country Diner” which contributes greatly to its success.  “The prevailing attitude at the diner is ‘…the cameras are always rollin’… and we don’t care,’” explains Larry Black, host and creator of “Larry’s Country Diner.”
The fact that plates are dropped or broken during a performance, a rack of knives and forks are dumped on the floor or that some of the lights go out while they were filming makes the show all that more exciting in a day where even reality shows are produced within strict script guidelines.  “It’s the kind of television you just don’t see too much anymore and both the artists and fans love it,” states Black who adds, “We even tell our artists that once the tape starts rolling, it does not stop.  If you get yourself in trouble, get yourself out ‘cause we’re not stoppin’.”
Because of its popularity, getting a seat to see a live taping might prove more difficult than getting a reservation at one of L.A.’s most trendy posh restaurants—the first available table is not available until 2013, so you’ll want to plan way in advance.  For reservations, please call 615-673-2846 or email paula@gabrielcommunications.com.
