America’s sheriff Andy Griffith dead at 86

America’s sheriff Andy Griffith dead at 86

By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper
Actor Andy Griffith, who won the hearts of 1960s TV viewers with his role as gentle Sheriff Andy Taylor in “The Andy Griffith Show,” then returned as a 1980s country lawyer in “Matlock,” died Tuesday at 86,according to WITN-TV.
The news was reported to the North Carolina television station by Bill Friday, former president of the University of North Carolina and a Griffith friend.

Griffith began his entertainment career with comic monologues and moved into movies, debuting in 1957’s “A Face in the Crowd” with Patricia Neal. But it was as the widower sheriff Andy Taylor on “The Andy Griffith Show” that he really made his mark. The show, which also starred a young Ron Howard as Griffith’s son Opie, and comedian Don Knotts as bumbling Deputy Barney Fife, ran from 1960-1968. Its setting, in the fictional small-town of Mayberry, became almost as famous as any one episode.

Griffith returned to TV stardom in 1986 as Ben Matlock, a Southern lawyer. That show ran until 1995 and was seized upon by comedians as a punchline for its popularity with older Americans. In one “Simpsons” episode, a highway is renamed the Matlock Expressway so a town mayor can win the elderly vote.

Griffith is survived by wife Cindi and his daughter Dixie. Son Andrew Jr., known as Sam, died in 1996.

Country Star to Appear on PBS’ A Capitol Fourth (July 4), Good Morning America (July 11), and The Late Show with David Letterman (August 23) in Support of No. 1 Country Billboard Album Debut, Punching Bag
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Viewers in favor of the "most recognizable voice in country music," get ready to set the TiVo. The multi-platinum selling hit-maker and recent No. 1 Country Billboard Album beholder, Josh Turner, will ring in Independence Day on PBS’s A Capitol Fourth Wednesday, July 4 at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT with performances of “Firecracker” and "The Star-Spangled Banner," backed by the National Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, next week, he’ll perform on ABC’s Good Morning America and then return to late night on The Late Show with David Letterman on August 23.
Turner’s fifth studio album debut, Punching Bag, debuted at the top of the Country Billboard charts and currently remains in the Top 10. It was also met with praise by critics: “On Punching Bag, Turner once again proves he ranks among the most effective - and most hard-core country performers of his generation," wrote the Associated Press, and the Washington Post adds, "These days, it seems like every male country artist wants to sound like Jon Bon Jovi fronting Def Leppard in 1985 — except for Josh Turner, who might be the only million-seller left in Nashville making contemporary country albums without the slightest whiff of arena rock or pop." PEOPLE Magazine also gave the release a highly commendable 3.5 out of four stars.
After his appearance on Good Morning America, Turner will perform for fans in New York City July 12 at the Best Buy Theater, presented by Cracker Barrel Old Country Store®. To purchase tickets, visit www.Ticketmaster.com.

Breaking Grass Releases First Single, "Running With The Moon" Today

Breaking Grass Releases First Single, "Running With The Moon" Today
Complete CD Hits Streets July 31st
July 3, 2012, (Booneville, MS) — Breaking Grass is very proud to announce the release of their first single, "Running With The Moon", is available to radio today! Their sophomore CD of the same title will officially hit streets July 31st.

With their fresh sound, original material, strong vocals and innovative musicianship, Breaking Grass is doing exactly what their name implies. Although not quite traditional, the music they present is without a doubt steeped in the timeless genre they grew up listening to. Comprised of Cody Farrar on guitar and lead/harmony vocals; Tyler White on fiddle; Thelton Vanderford on banjo and harmony vocals; Zach Wooten on mandolin; and Britt Sheffield on bass and lead/harmony vocals; this relatively new band formed with one goal in mind - to make music that all ages could enjoy. They are well on their way to becoming a household name and recently won the fan voted B.O.R.N. Award (Band On The Rise Nationally)  in June 2012.

2011 proved to be an exciting year for Breaking Grass with a string of wins at many of the southeast’s top music festivals including first place in the State of Mississippi Bluegrass Band Championship in New Albany, first place in the Athens Old Time Fiddler’s Bluegrass Band Competition in Alabama and first place in the Uncle Dave Macon Days Bluegrass Band Competition in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. This was also the year Breaking Grass released their self-titled, debut album of all original music to a standing room only crowd at a CD release event presented by the City of Booneville, Mississippi. "With Breaking Grass, my very first impression was that this band understands variety," states Brian McNeal of Prescription Bluegrass. "From heartfelt emotion to barroom romance to a Texas Two-Step to a genuine good-old-fashioned barn-burner, Breaking Grass lacks nothing in mixing it up. It's refreshing to hear a band that truly is different...different from any other and even different from within." With a sense of excitement and drive from a very fruitful first year together, the band turned to producer Stephen Mougin of Dark Shadow Recording once again for help with their latest project, Running With The Moondue for release July 31st. This new CD is a strong offering from the group, showing their versatility as musicians and vocalists with 12 tracks of original songs, all written by the band’s main lead singer, Cody Farrar. "I had the pleasure of working with Breaking Grass as producer and engineer on their last two albums," says Mougin. "I encouraged them to use “Running With The Moon” as the title cut for this CD because I believe it highlights all of the things they do really well. If there ever was a song that portrayed the story through sound, this is it. The tune explodes into a fantastic, tight, driving bluegrass groove that supports the fine vocals of front-man (and composer) Cody Farrar, and it really captures the energy of the band and proclaims their readiness to take on the music world! They have matured from a hot-pickin’ local band, to a tight ensemble that draws musical ideas from the lyrical content. That’s not to say they've given up on the hot-pickin’ – the spectacular trading solos near the end of the song showcase what great pickers they are!"

Lead Single Set To Impact Radio July 9
Nashville, TN- July 3, 2012- A&M/Octone Records’ vibrant new country music duo Miss Willie Brown, comprised of singer/songwriters Kasey Buckley and Amanda Watkins, released the video for their debut single, “You’re All That Matters To Me" on CMT today.  The upbeat track goes to radio on July 9 and was written by Robert John “Mutt” Lange and produced by Nathan Chapman (Taylor Swift, The Band Perry).  The video, directed by T.K. McKamy, showcases the duo's playful individual personalities and uses comedy to tell the story of two girls fighting for one guy's attention.
"We had a specific vision for the video as far as fighting over a man and showcasing our humor and friendship. When the director,TK, came back with this hilarious treatment, we knew we wanted to work with him, " said Buckley.  "It was such a rad shoot…a lot of laughing and playing tricks on each other, which is pretty much how every day on the road is for us."
"We've been writing songs and performing together for a few years," added Watkins.  "And now having a video feels like such a culmination of all of our hard work, it's a tangible and visual result of what we've been working so hard for!"
Buzz for Miss Willie Brown has been building over the past year as they toured across the country with Dierks Bentley, performed at CMA Fest, Bonnaroo and recently launched their first radio tour.  Radio programmers have chimed in with their support…
"These girls come ready to rock! They are full of personality, not to mention tremendous talent." Kerry Wolfe, WMIL
"Amanda and Kasey have the goods.  Great voices, superb energy, a fresh look and sound wrapped up in a song just right for summer." Smokey Rivers, KNIX
"Absolute killer summer single!"- Richard Kimball, The Road
"I'm humbly bowing down to my new favorite country duo...MISS WILLIE BROWN!" Sandra Foxx, WIRK
With raw, honky-tonk-style emotion and irresistible rock & roll swagger, Miss Willie Brown is both a reminder of the classic power of a song and a fresh look toward music’s future.   The two girls met in California waiting tables, instantly bonded over a deep love of country music and have been writing and singing together ever since.  Now based in Nashville, Miss Willie Brown inked a deal with A&M/Octone Records and have been busy honing their live performance chops opening shows for artists including Dierks Bentley, Dwight Yoakam and Billy Currington.  They are also the only unsigned band to ever perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

"Tim McGraw's new single 'Truck Yeah' just might be the best trucking record you'll hear all year…a gear-grinding, mud-flinging, guitar riff of a celebration of pickups, with a hook that's guaranteed to get its share of did-he-say what-I-think-he-said double takes."- USA Today
"gritty country-rocker”- Kansas City Star
"already popular set-closing"- Philadelphia Inquirer
“Truck Yeah” was written by Chris Lucas, Preston Brust, Danny Myrick and Chris Janson and produced by Byron Gallimore and McGraw.

Steep Canyon Rangers "Nobody Knows You"

Steep Canyon Rangers  "Nobody Knows You"  album is topping all the Bluegrass Charts - and they are set to release on Vinyl next week.

Nobody Knows You is the next level for the North Carolina quintet – Mike Guggino (mandolin/vocals), Charles Humphrey III (bass/vocals), Woody Platt (guitar/lead vocals), Nicky Sanders (fiddle/vocals) and Graham Sharp (banjo/vocals) – known for forging their own distinct path within a famously traditional genre. Having defied all notions of “déjà bluegrass” since their beginnings more than 12 years ago at UNC Chapel Hill, the new album – co-produced by the band and nine-time Grammy-winner Gary Paczosa – is fueled by deft musicianship, impeccable songwriting, distinctive vocals, and creative arrangements that eschew all formulas.  “We’ve made enough records by now that if we can’t just follow what we want to do,” says Graham Sharp, who wrote seven of the album’s dozen songs, “then what’s the point of us doing it?” The result – which blasts out of the box with the album’s buoyantly mold-breaking title track – is the most adventurous and fully realized accomplishment Steep Canyon Rangers have achieved to date, and the record is poised to bring them to audiences beyond their already devoted bluegrass, folk, americana and jamband fanbase.

Earl Scruggs almost singlehandedly invented and popularized the rolling, three-finger banjo technique ("Scruggs style") that has become the signature sound of bluegrass. Over the period of a couple of years, many of the best banjo players in bluegrass convened in Nashville to record this tribute to Earl Scruggs. Now, with his recent passing, this collection of never-before-released material has become a memorial album as well, for his pervasive influence can be heard on every track. Bluegrass banjo doesn't get much better than this.

About Clint Black:
Clint Black has long been a fixture in the country music community with international and cross-genre notoriety as a songwriter, record producer, and instrumentalist.  Black has written, recorded, and released more than 100 songs, an impressive feat for any artist’s career, while an astounding one-third of these songs achieved hit status on country radio.  Black is an accomplished singer and guitarist with a proficiency on the drums and harmonica; all which lends itself to why he has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide.  Black’s 1989 RIAA-certified triple platinum debut Killin’ Time catapulted this then unknown Texas singer/songwriter into the limelight, but for Black, that was only the beginning.  Several platinum-selling albums followed including Put Yourself In My Shoes, The Hard Way, and No Time To Kill, along with film and television roles.  Black also chairs philanthropic efforts in support of the International Rett Syndrome Foundation.  Black is currently in the studio working his upcoming album due out later this year. Tour Marks Attendance Milestone of More Than
One Million Fans While Prepping for Europe and Australia

Nashville, TN – July 2, 2012 – As the North American leg of Lady Antebellum’s headlining OWN THE NIGHT WORLD TOUR sponsored by GAC with special guests Darius Rucker and Thompson Square comes to a close, the 85 city run that has incited fan hysteria and massive critical acclaim also marks an attendance milestone with over one million fans as they continue into Europe and Australia this summer.

"I remember how exciting and special it was to hear we sold out the first weekend of the tour back in the Fall," said Charles Kelley.  "I seriously had no idea that so many others would follow, especially places like LA and Chicago, or that we would be sitting here eight months later saying we played to a million fans.  It doesn't even register."

"What I love is the connection we made with all of those fans," added Hillary Scott.  "It truly felt like we got to know everyone in the arena every night, which was one of our biggest goals when we started brainstorming on a paper plate last summer in Lake Tahoe.  We invited fans up on stage most nights and just tried to get as close as possible to them…it was one giant sing-along each night.   As a songwriter, it's so cool to hear the lyrics you wrote with your best friends in the back of a bus echoing back to you by so many people."

"We've definitely become closer as a band – musically and personally – over this tour too," noted Dave Haywood. "We are really proud of our show and how much we've grown on stage.  Moments like selling out two nights in our hometown of Augusta, GA with all our friends and family around are really going to make us miss being on the road this Fall, but we're looking forward to working on new music and getting back into the studio."

A tour concept that started with a simple production sketch on a paper plate, the OWN THE NIGHT WORLD TOUR kicked off in Knoxville, TN on 11/11/11 with an entourage of more than 100 people in 10 buses and eight trucks who travelled more than 46,000 miles across the continent, hitting arenas and amphitheatres in 34 states and six Canadian provinces. Along the way, the trio has earned praise from critics for their spirited live show and proved that Lady Antebellum has long-term staying power as one of the biggest touring groups in country music.

“Nashville’s Lady Antebellum, on its first arena headlining tour, has become such a crowd-pleasing phenomenon that there is arguably no other country band on the planet right now that can steal the trio’s ever-brightening spotlight.” – Salt Lake Tribune

“Lady Antebellum certainly pushes all the right buttons in concert --backdrops dominated by shooting stars
and bucolic scenery, a careful placement of the hits -- but there's more to their appeal than just that. Their
palette is broader, more forcefully colored than most of their peers, and the soulfulness that results is
unmistakable.” – Variety

“The Grammy-winning group has claimed its spot among the elite headliners, moving up from playing theaters to selling out massive arenas.” – San Jose Mercury News

“Its performance erased all doubts that the act’s seemingly meteoric ascendance to the top of the contemporary country world is undeserved…its celebrated vocal harmonies were terrific.”  – Kansas City Star

“While it can be hard to take the studio sound to the live stage, Lady Antebellum proved it can be done. But
more than that, the group’s playfulness, youthful exuberance and unending energy was evident fromstart
to finish.” – Virginian Pilot

Upcoming stops on the OWN THE NIGHT 2012 WORLD TOUR include shows in the UK where they will also open for Bruce Springsteen in Hyde Park, and headline in Ireland, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Norway and Sweden before they head to Australia in September. For a full list of upcoming tour dates, visit www.ladyantebellum.com.
