Die Marty Stuart Show

The Marty Stuart Show

The Marty Stuart Show is THE show to watch for every lover of real traditional country music. It is a half hour show which airs every Saturday night and it is in its 4th season now.
It all started a couple of years back. When Marty was on tour he came across an old Porter Wagoner Show on tv and thought that one of the band members had brought a dvd. But then he found out that the show was on RFD TV, a Nashville based tv station and as they call themselves “Rural America´s most important network”. And Marty Stuart started to think that someone ought to redo a show like the Porter Wagoner Show, the Wilburn Brothers Show, Flatt & Scruggs show and that led to idea that he might do a show like that himself.

He got in touch with the president and founder of RFD TV and it didn`t need much convincing with Marty`s enthusiasm. The Marty Stuart Show is a big success of the network and each week up to around a million viewers are clued to their tv screens when the Marty Stuart Show is on.

The guestlist of the now past 100 show is absolutely striking – worldclass tradiotional country artists. Just to name a few, there was Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard, Tanya Tucker, Bobby Bare, Keith Urban, Willie Nelson, Ricky Skaggs, Earl Scruggs, Charlie Louvin, Don Maddox...too many to mention – but pure hillbilly heaven.

The concept of the show is similar to the old Porter Wagoner Shows. Each episode is sculpted around the guests with permanent performances of Connie Smith and Leroy Troy and Eddie Stubbs acting as the official announcer.
The show gives Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives a platform to showcase old and new songs. Quite a few songs that were originally written just for the tv show end up being on one of Marty Stuart`s cds. Each member of Marty`s band – the Fabulous Superlatives – get their airtime too to showcase their talents.

Each season consists of 26 episodes, usually taped in the winter at the Northstar Studios in Nashville in front of a small audience. The setting for the show looks like a mixture of the Country Music Hall of Fame, with rhinestone costumes, boots, hats and scarves and hay bales covered with Indian blankets.

The show can be watched online worldwide on the internet, if you suscribe to RFD TV`s Country Club on the internet and it is worth every cent to become a member. Check: www.rfdtv.com.

I hope that Marty Stuart & The Fabulous Superlatives will continue what they do for country music and that there will be many more seasons of this incredible show.

Michael Martin Murphey Breaks Levitt Pavillion Attendance Records

Michael Martin Murphey Breaks Levitt Pavillion Attendance Records

DALLAS, TEXAS — Genre-busting Michael Martin Murphey kicked off his Cosmic Cowboy Revival Tour in Arlington, Texas, Friday night by breaking attendance records at the Levitt Pavillion.

More than 10,000 people braved the heat when Murphey’s Cosmic Cowboy Band hit the stage, playing songs from his early days as a pioneer in the progressive country music era - widely known as the “Cosmic Cowboy“ movement — including “Geronimo’s Cadillac,” “Cosmic Cowboy,” “Wildfire,” and “Carolina In The Pines.”

“What was really fun was playing those songs in front of so many young kids,” Murphey said, adding that the band had also played such classic songs as “El Paso”, “Big Iron” and his own “Cowboy Logic.”

In the summer of 1970, the closure of the Vulcan Gas Company, a successful  psychedelic music venue in Austin, Texas, left a void in the city’s live music scene.  Coincidentally, it was also the same summer that a young Michael Murphey moved to the state capital, having already made a name for himself in Los Angeles as a writer of hits for groups like The Monkees and artists like John Denver.

Soon after arriving, the Texas native began the legendary “Cosmic Cowboy” movement and in the process, kickstarted Austin’s birth as the “Live Music Capital of the World.” He was a major influence on “Outlaws” Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Jerry Jeff Walker and was the first of the Austin-based musicians of that era to earn a major label recording contract before topping the pop charts with hits like “Geronimo’s Cadillac”, “Wildfire” and “Carolina In The Pines.”

Murphey is looking back at those early years as he launches a tour across Texas beginning May 25 through June 2 with his “New Cosmic Cowboy Band.”

“When he lived in Austin in the mid- ‘70s,” wrote John T. Davis in the Austin American Statesman, “he was one of the formative voices and most sophisticated songwriters of the progressive-country boom that defined the city’s music in that era.  Murphey originals such as 'Geronimo’s Cadillac,' 'Alley’s of Austin' and 'Backslider’s Wine' remain among the most graceful and accomplished tunes to come out of Austin’s turbulent country-rock scene.”

A lifelong resident and loyal son of Texas, Murphey is also known for such huge hits as “What’s Forever For,” “Long Line of Love,” “I’m Gonna Miss You Girl” and “Cowboy Logic,” among others. According to BMI, back to back performances of his award winning songs alone, with each averaging 3 minutes each, would amount to 63 years of continuous airplay.  In all, he  has made over 35 albums, earning six gold album awards and becoming the first artist to attain a Certified Gold Album in Western Music since Marty Robbins. His songs have been recorded by Lyle Lovett, Kenny Rogers, John Denver, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, and a host of other recording artists.

The COSMIC COWBOY BAND this tour is: Pat Flynn-guitar; Ryan Murphey-guitar, mandolin ; David Coe: fiddle/mandolin ; Bobby Blazier-drums ; Gary Roller- bass; Herb Steiner: steel guitar.

CRAIG MORGAN RELEASES “CORN STAR” TO COUNTRY RADIO

CRAIG MORGAN RELEASES “CORN STAR” TO COUNTRY RADIO

Nashville, Tenn. – May 29, 2012 – Country music star and award winning TV host Craig Morgan is ecstatic about releasing his second single from This Ole Boy.  “Corn Star,“ written by Shane Minor and Jeffrey Steele, is a rockin’ up-tempo smash that is sure to become a summer anthem.  The tongue-in-cheek tune colorfully describes the town’s hottest catch “…with a bag of seed on her suntan shoulder, cut off jeans and a tight tank top with a big red mower on it…She’s a CORN STAR.”  Fans are all ears for the song, as it has quickly become a live show favorite!

“Corn Star” is the follow up to Morgan’s Top 15 hit and title track “This Ole Boy.”  The New York Times describes the song as one that 'prizes a certain kind of woman, not the kind you'd meet at the corner of Hollywood and Vine' while 4 A Song shares it's about a 'TRUE country girl who hauls her own seed, drives her own tractor and takes the ribbons at the  county fair.'

The new album, his first new music in three years and debut release on Black River Entertainment, is co-produced with his longtime creative partner Phil O’Donnell.  Morgan co-wrote 6 of the 12 songs on the new record.

News of the latest single comes on the heels of announcing the season 3 premiere of Craig Morgan’s award-winning TV show “Craig Morgan: All Access Outdoors.” Starting July 1, 2012, viewers can catch Craig every Sunday night at 11pm (EST) on the Outdoor Channel. Check local listings or log on to www.OutdoorChannel.com to find out how to get the network in your area.

ABOUT CRAIG MORGAN:One of country music’s best-loved artists, Craig Morgan has made a name for himself with massive radio airplay of his signature hits:  “Bonfire,” “Almost Home,” “Redneck Yacht Club,” “That’s What I Love About Sunday” and “International Harvester”.  His latest single “Corn Star” is the follow up to Morgan’s Top 15 hit and title track “This Ole Boy.” The new album, his first release on Black River Entertainment, boasted a Top 5 debut on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart when it released on February 28, 2012. Craig received one of country music’s highest honors when he was inducted as a member of the Grand Ole Opry in 2008. Prior to becoming a country music and TV sensation, Craig Morgan spent over 10 years of active duty in the Army and an additional nine years in the Army Reserves.  He is an avid supporter of America’s military personnel and a recipient of the 2006 USO Merit Award.

SPEAK NOW TAYLOR SWIFT

TAYLOR SWIFT:  SPEAK NOW—TREASURES FROM THE WORLD TOUR EXHIBITION TO OPEN JUNE 6
AT THE COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME ® AND MUSEUM

NASHVILLE, Tenn., May 29, 2012 – The Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum will explore superstar Taylor Swift’s record-breaking world tour with the exhibition Taylor Swift: Speak Now—Treasures from the World Tour, which opens on June 6, 2012, and runs through November 4, 2012.  The exhibition will include dozens of costumes, instruments, set pieces and props from the six-time Grammy winner’s acclaimed 2011-12 Speak Now World Tour, which entertained more than 1.5 million fans over 111 shows in 19 countries spanning four continents.

“Taylor Swift’s Speak Now tour was one of the most successful tours in all of music, and she has been an ambassador for country music, raising awareness of our genre literally around the globe,” said Museum Director Kyle Young.  “We are delighted to be able to bring our visitors up close and personal with many of their favorite elements from the show, from the colorful and elaborate stage costumes and beautiful instruments, to the magnificent ‘Juliet balcony’ that Taylor entered near the conclusion of each show and ‘flew’ around the circumference of each venue.

“Taylor is a dynamic live performer whose open heart and engaging personality allow her to make even the largest stadium shows an intimate experience,” Young continued.  “Touring has always been a key element connecting music artists with their fans; those interactions help forge and strengthen the artist-fan relationship, and this exhibit speaks to that.  And the opportunity came to us out of discussions we were having with Taylor related to our expansion—serendipity is a wonderful thing!”

Earlier this month, Swift pledged $4 million to fund a new education center at the museum.  Swift’s gift, the largest capital contribution by an individual artist in the museum’s 45-year history, prompted the museum to name the new space the Taylor Swift Education Center.  The center will open in early 2014.  The gift was made in conjunction with the museum’s expansion capital campaign, Working on a Building: Country Music Lives Here.

Swift has for years been a generous supporter of the museum’s exhibitions, loaning the institution dresses, stage costumes and instruments for display; a free-standing, Taylor Swift multimedia exhibit has been one of the museum’s most popular attractions since its debut in May, 2010.

The Speak Now exhibition will recreate 10 vignettes from the tour, including the following artifacts:

·         Taylor’s Roberto Cavalli ombre gold bugle-beaded dress and shimmering red Gibson Les Paul model electric guitar, featured during Swift’s performance of “The Story of Us”

·         Taylor’s vintage ecru lace dress and Deering six-string banjo with rolled steel drum; fiddle player’s Marc by Marc Jacobs moss green crepe dress; male dancer’s soft-shoe costume including Brixton tartan plaid newsboy cap, shirt, pants, vest and oxfords; and numerous props including the 6’ x 8’ switchboard

·         Taylor’s pale blue silk Marchesa gown with rhinestone bodice; and a white piano bench with tufted leather upholstery, both featured in “Back to December”

·         Taylor’s red, sequined Jenny Packham slip dress  and knee-high leather boots, worn during “Better Than Revenge”

·         Taylor’s vintage purple silk halter dress; dancers’ costumes including a chiffon bridal gown with pearl- and bead-encrusted bodice, tulle veil and silk rose bouquet; two cotton-candy pink bridesmaids’ dresses with lace bodices and ruffled tulle skirts, and bouquets; groom’s ivory tuxedo and black pants; cleric’s vestments; and props including retro microphone, all featured during “Speak Now”

·         Taylor brand koa wood ukulele with mother-of-pearl inlay, whose “happy sounds” Swift elicited during her acoustic performance of “Fearless”

·         Taylor’s sleeveless, flesh-colored Reem Acra gown with sequin overlay; female dancer’s ballerina costume, comprised of a gold and ivory brocade bodice and pastel tulle tutu, embellished with pastel tulle flowers, seed pearls and beading; male dancer’s tunic and leggings; and prop trees; all featured in “Enchanted”

·         Taylor’s re-worked vintage dress, featuring leather corsetry; and the mallet she used to ring the bells during her performance of “Haunted”

·         Taylor’s black Jenny Packham flapper-style slip dress with rhinestone embellishments; black knee-high leather boots; and Taylor brand “sparkle” guitar encrusted with Swarovski crystals and featuring a headstock outlined in crystals and embellished with a crystal “13,” featured during “Long Live”

·         Taylor’s golden Valentino ball gown, featuring layers of tulle and a sequin overlay; dancers’ and aerialists’ costumes; and the “Juliet balcony” in which Swift soared above the crowd during each performance of “Love Story.”

Accredited by the American Association of Museums, the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum is operated by the Country Music Foundation, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization chartered by the state of Tennessee in 1964. The museum’s mission is the preservation of the history of country and related vernacular music rooted in southern culture.  With the same educational mission, the foundation also operates CMF Records, the museum’s Frist Library and Archive, CMF Press, Historic RCA Studio B and Hatch Show Print®.
