Soundtrack to “The Last Ride”, A New Movie About the Life of Hank Williams

Curb Records To Release Soundtrack to “The Last Ride”,
A New Movie About the Life of Hank Williams

Music by Jett Williams, Johnny Cash, Michael English,
The Isaacs and many more

The Last RideNashville, Tenn. (May 25, 2012) – Curb Records is proud to announce the release of the soundtrack to “The Last Ride”, a new independent movie about the life of Hank Williams.
The movie, starring Henry Thomas, Jesse James, Fred Dalton Thompson and Kaley Cuoco, focuses on the period when Williams was getting his life back in order after drugs, alcohol, two failed marriages and a hair-trigger temper had nearly ruined Williams’ legendary career.  In late 1952, he had arranged several New Year’s shows in West Virginia and Ohio. Hank Williams never got there.  Somewhere on that last highway, the country music legend passed away on New Years Day, in 1953, in the back of his powder blue Cadillac, carrying only his guitar and a notebook full of unfinished songs.  He was 29.

Inspired by the mysterious final days of Hank Williams’ life, The Last Ride is the story of that final drive through the bleak Appalachian countryside of 1950’s America.

The movie’s soundtrack plays an integral role in the telling of this story.  It contains some of the best-known Hank Williams songs as well as new material written specifically for this project.

Performers include Jett Williams (Hank Williams’ daughter), the late Johnny Cash and numerous country and gospel artists.

Jett Williams had this to say about the film, “In the movie, my dad doesn’t sing a note or strum a chord.  This movie captures the essence of a man who, until recently, had become one-dimensional due to the myths, the lies, the fiction and vultures who surrounded him.   Sure, it’s fictionalized from a factual point of view, but it is right on from a human emotional point of view.”

Tracks on The Last Ride soundtrack:
The Last Ride Theme – Benjy Gaither
Hey Good Lookin’ – Jett Williams
Honky Tonk Man – Russ Taff
Keep on the Sunny Side – Rebecca Frasier
I Will Marry You – Wes Hampton
It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels – Sarah Johns
Cold, Cold Heart – Doug Anderson
The Swing Low Sweet Chariot – Clyde Wright & The Incredible Golden Gates
I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry – Michael English
Longing – Jett Williams
Footprints – Benjy Gaither
I’m Winging My Way Back Home – The Blackwood Brothers
Can’t Help It If I’m Still In Love With You – Jett Williams
On I Down The Road – Val Storey
Chino – Nathan Young
Ilene – Nathan Young
What Ya Gonna Do – Nathan Young
Tennessee Waltz – Nathan Young
O Come Angel Band – The Isaacs
Hank Williams’ Blues – Jett Williams
The Night Hank Williams Came To Town – Johnny Cash & Waylon Jennings
The Last Ride – Tony Ramey

The platform release of The Last Ride will commence June 29th in New York and Los Angeles.  The theatrical release will be supported by major radio promotion to Country, Americana, NPR and Triple A stations across the country.

In 2013, The Last Ride will be available on DVD and Video On Demand through Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

CMA SONGWRITERS SERIES HEADS WEST WITH SHOWS IN LOS ANGELES AND PHOENIX

CMA SONGWRITERS SERIES HEADS WEST WITH SHOWS IN LOS ANGELES AND PHOENIX

BILL ANDERSON, KRISTIAN BUSH, BOBBY PINSON, AND HOST BOB DIPIERO PERFORM JUNE 26 AND 27
NASHVILLE – The CMA Songwriters Series heads west bringing some of Nashville’s best tunesmiths to Los Angeles’ House of Blues on Tuesday, June 26 (8:00 PM), and Phoenix’s Musical Instrument Museum on Wednesday, June 27 (8:00 PM). Bill Anderson, Kristian Bush, and Bobby Pinson will join host Bob DiPiero for two nights of music and storytelling.
“Nashville has always known how amazing our songwriters are,” said Steve Moore, CMA Chief Executive Officer. “And now CMA wants to share these treasured tunesmiths with the rest of the country.”
With a career spanning more than 50 years, “Whisperin’ Bill” Anderson is one of the most awarded songwriters in the history of Country Music. He composed his first big hit, "City Lights," at the age of 19 and was soon setting the charts on fire with such classics as "Once A Day," "That's What It's Like To Be Lonesome," "Tips Of My Fingers," "Saginaw, Michigan," "When Two Worlds Collide," "Mama Sang A Song," "Cold Hard Facts Of Life," "Still," and countless other huge hits. A Country Music Hall of Famer and member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, Anderson has continued writing hits well into the 21st Century including two CMA Song of the Year Award winners, "Whiskey Lullaby," recorded by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss, and "Give It Away," recorded by George Strait.
"I have not taken my music to the west coast in a long time, and I'm really looking forward to this opportunity,” said Anderson. “I lived in southern California briefly in the early ‘60s and have many friends there from my game show hosting days in the late ‘70s. It's been awhile since I've performed in Phoenix as well. I'm grateful to the CMA Songwriters Series for giving me the chance to head west again."
As one half of Country Music duo Sugarland, Bush has garnered five CMA Vocal Duo of the Year Awards, exceeded sales of more than 22 million units, and garnered eight No. 1 singles. An accomplished producer and songwriter, Bush is responsible for hits such as “Baby Girl,” “All I Want To Do,” and “Stuck Like Glue,” all recorded by Sugarland. This is Bush’s first time participating in the CMA Songwriter Series.
"It all starts with a song,” said Bush. “Songwriting has been important to me since I was a kid listening to the radio. I'm always overwhelmed by the joy I feel when I'm writing, and how humbling it is to see people sing my songs back to me when I play. The CMA has always recognized the song as well as the songwriter and the artist, and I am honored and excited to be playing in the CMA Songwriter Series."
Rounding out the line up for both shows is Bobby Pinson (“She Never Cried in Front of Me” recorded by Toby Keith, and “All I Want To Do,” “It Happens,” and “Want To,” all recorded by Sugarland); and a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame as well as the host for each evening, Bob DiPiero (“Southern Voice” recorded by Tim McGraw, “Blue Clear Sky” recorded by George Strait, and “You Can’t Take the Honky Tonk Out of the Girl” recorded by Brooks & Dunn).
Tickets for the June 26 Los Angeles Show are $40 for General Admission Seating and $25 for General Admission; tickets for the June 26 show in Phoenix are $35 and $27. Tickets for both shows will go on sale Friday, June 1. For details on purchasing tickets, log on to www.CMAworld.com or www.hob.com.
ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, and GAC are the official partners of the CMA Songwriters Series.

Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush Writing Separately for Next Sugarland Album

Sounds like Jennifer Nettles and her duo partner Kristian Bush are busy writing new tunes for their next Sugarland album. Jennifer tells ABC News Radio they have been doing a lot of their writing apart lately. “Kristian has been writing with people from Japan. He’s been to Sweden and doing some writing. He’s obviously been doing writing stateside.” Jennifer has been spending time writing at her piano, and she adds, “We’ve been doing a lot of different writing, and we’ll see how it pans out when we decide to go to the studio.” Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles made her debut as a mentor on ABC’s new music competition Duets last night.

Taylor Swift & Kellie Pickler Make Maxim’s ‘Hot 100′

Maxim has released their annual Hot 100 List…Basically it’s a list of who they believe to be the most smokin-hot of all the ladies. And, I’m gonna admit I’m a little shocked at which country girls made the cut. Rolling in at #72 is Kellie Pickler.
Now Kellie is one sexy lady, so I’m not too surprised to see her there. However, Taylor Swift snags #26. Don’t get me wrong, Taylor is beautiful…But typically Maxim enjoys the sexier celebs. Maybe even more surprising than who made the cut is who didn’t. Carrie, Miranda, and Shania are no where to be seen on the list.

To date, approximately $1.4 million has been raised, including $1 million in grants from the Arkansas Natural and Cultural Resources Council, $300,000 in proceeds from the first Johnny Cash Music Festival, $50,000 in state funds, and $50,000 in private funds.

Country Music Hall of Fame Readies for CMA Music Fest with Star-Studded Lineup

“My Fool Heart Too” c/w “Do the Hoochie Coochie”

                                                        Gail Russell

Gail Russell was born in New Plymouth [New Zealand] and was raised on a small sheep and dairy farm before she moved to Wellington where she attended college. She purchased an Ovation guitar which she still plays today and performed songs by Emmylou Harris, Billie Joe Spiers, and Dolly Parton. Several years later she moved back to New Plymouth where she soon joined a country music club.

Her first album “I’m Just a Country Girl at Heart” was released in New Zealand in May 2006 with included nine of her original songs and she reached Number 4 in the airplay charts in New Zealand and Australia.

Gail has since recorded two more albums and her music continues to be well received and she is getting a huge amount of airplay in her native New Zealand and Australia and on radio stations in the USA, UK and Europe.

Gail recently heard a number of songs written by Derek Griffiths, Ron and Bo Walton and published by UK music publisher Tabitha Music Limited and the first song which was recorded in Nashville is the haunting ballad “My Fool Heart Too” c/w “Do the Hoochie Coochie” which is an original song written by Gail.

The single will be released by Tabitha Records on 1st June 2012 and is available to download from Amazon, iTunes and other major download sites.
