Kellie Pickler and Fresh Step Unite for ASPCA

Kellie Pickler and Fresh Step Unite for ASPCA

When the Fresh Step cat litter brand approached Creative Artists Agency for help creating and marketing a sweater to benefit the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, they suggested Kellie Pickler as the campaign’s solo celebrity spokeswoman.
Her fashion sense, bubbly personality and lifelong love of cats provided the instant connection needed to pull together the needed buzz for the early 2012 campaign, which also helped promote the release of Pickler’s new album, 100 Proof, as the campaign was getting under way. Pickler’s star power led to a sellout the day she wore the sweater on ABC’s “The View.” Created by fashion designer Geren Ford, it sold for $35. All proceeds went to the ASPCA.
“I don’t think there is much about it we don’t feel really good about,” said David Kargas, Sr. Group Manager, Public Relations, The Clorox Co., the parent company to Fresh Step. “The idea was fun, and people had fun with it. Kellie embraced it and helped us bring it to life.”
“Cat lovers tend to be females and Fresh Step was looking to capture that consumer demographic,” said Laura Hutfless of Creative Artists Agency, which brokered the deal. “Within hours of ‘The View’ appearance, the sweater sold out. That speaks to the power of an artist to help connect a brand with their target audience in an organic and meaningful way.”
Pickler’s use of social media was an added bonus. She has almost 500,000 Twitter followers and regularly chats with her fans online. That connection can be important in a socially driven campaign, which called on Fresh Step customers to post photos of themselves with the sweater on Facebook.
“Country artists seem to be very in touch with fans, and on some level accessible to them,” Kargas said. “The fact that she has a big following on Twitter and Facebook is the result of how she feels approachable to lots of people. It’s not like we look at it and say ‘We can only work with someone who has many Twitter or Facebook fans.’ But we saw someone who was approachable, and would bring the fun spirit to this campaign that we were looking for.”
“Cause marketing is a growing trend in the marketing space,” Hutfless said. “It is an effective way for brands to reach consumers, and for artists to bring awareness to a cause or organization they support. Fans are particularly receptive as they view the message as authentic. When we are able to pair an artist with a like-minded brand, the results are magic.”

David Ross Recounts 30 Years of Monitoring Nashville’s "MusicRow"

David Ross Recounts 30 Years of Monitoring Nashville’s "MusicRow"
By Kip Kirby
© 2012 CMA Close Up® News Service / Country Music Association®, Inc.
When David Ross moved to Nashville in 1981, it wasn’t to become a publishing mogul. After a decade of performing in the Boston area, he came to Music City to concentrate on songwriting but soon realized he needed a part-time job to support his family. Sifting through possibilities, he hit upon the idea of launching an information trade sheet that would list music-related companies and services. He named his fledgling publication MusicRow, a stroke of luck he sees as fortuitous.
“The name was so powerful,” he said. “I couldn’t believe it wasn’t already taken. I’d love to tell you it was the result of a massive marketing campaign, but it really just hit me like an apple falling from a tree. Of course, it was primitive in the beginning. It was certainly no New York Times. But people loved the idea that it was local. There was nothing local like it for the music industry at the time.”
Over the years, the magazine went from door-to-door hand delivery, to 12 color issues a year, to publishing biweekly (23 issues per year). Paid subscriptions and industry advertising boosted the bottom line. RowFax was introduced in 1992 to capitalize on the advent of fax machines, disseminating breaking news, song pitch lists and gossip each Friday to industry professionals.
Eventually, Ross reduced the number of print issues while rebuilding the magazine’s website as an instant source of information and news. Online subscriptions drove readership to an all-time high. MusicRow even debuted the first-ever HTML music trade newsletter. “None of our competitors had one, so for a couple of years, we owned breaking news,” he said. “We could send out stories as they happened. It was a powerful differentiator for us. We’d always been ‘the little guy,’ and now suddenly technology had given us a way to get a leg up on our competition.
“I never believed we were in the magazine business,” Ross elaborated. “To me, it was always the news and communication business. So as the industry morphed, whether it was a change from cassette to CD or from analog to digital, the pathway or the litmus test for coverage remained the same: to reflect reality. Only the vehicles we used to travel it changed. With Internet and email, the time frame for distributing news and information is shrinking rapidly. The window of relevance for news is now measured in minutes and hours, not days and weeks.”
Today, MusicRow has more than 34,000 Twitter followers. Traffic on MusicRow.com has swollen to more than 3 million page views per year. Annual directories and special issues such as “In Charge” and “The Artist Roster” are widely considered essential for anyone doing business in the Nashville music industry.
Ross sold the publication to SouthComm in 2008; it was later purchased by Sherod Robertson, former CFO of SouthComm in 2010. "I'm proud of MusicRow's legacy and all the people that have contributed to its success," said Ross. “We found a way to do something that very few magazines or newspapers have done, to transition successfully into the digital era. We created a hybrid model that delivers news and information across a variety of channels and formats.”
Though outspoken opinions and controversial critiques are no strangers to its pages, MusicRow has always been committed primarily to support for the music industry while striving to maintain a neutral, fair perspective. But it’s never been easy to communicate this in a media environment where people are quick to assume bias and trust is a fragile commodity. “It took years to acquire that reputation,” Ross recalled. “But I always realized it could easily be lost. It meant always going with stories based upon merit and not just highlighting friends.”
Looking back on MusicRow’s success at maintaining that balance between advocacy and objectivity, Ross admitted, “I’ve been very fortunate. The town may not have always liked what we wrote, but they supported us doing it. From the beginning, I always felt an obligation to try and be supportive and constructive to the industry. Sometimes that meant being honest. It meant cheering the successes but maybe sometimes also subtly pointing out things that weren’t right.”
Ross credits the local music community for his publication’s ongoing support and the Country Music Association for creating a positive, cooperative environment in Nashville. “CMA has always been a place where executives and companies take off their competitive hats and work together for the good of Country Music and the format,” he said. “CMA has been the catalyst that’s enabled Country Music to march with a voice and orchestrate its best interests.”

CMA Music Festival celebrates the unique relationship between Country Music artists and their fans in the heart of Music City USA. The artists participate for free, and on their behalf, CMA has donated half the net proceeds of the Festival to support music education through the Keep the Music Playing program.

To date, more than $6.1 million has been donated to purchase musical instruments and supplies, providing thousands of students in Metro Nashville Public Schools with the resources and opportunities they could not have afforded on their own, and giving many of them a strong reason to remain in school. The total also includes a $1 million endowment gift for the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum's Words & Music program, which assists language arts and music teachers with classroom instruction in the basics of songwriting.
Featuring concerts, autograph signings, family activities, and more, CMA Music Festival is an unparalleled celebration of America's music. In 2011, the event drew a record-setting 65,000 fans from all 50 states and 26 nations and, for the second consecutive year, sold out in advance each night at LP Field for the star-packed Nightly Concerts. According to the Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau, direct visitor spending generated by the Festival totaled more than $30 million. CMA Music Festival is a four-time winner of the International Entertainment Buyers Association's LIVE! Award for Festival of the Year (2004, 2006, 2008, 2010).

CMA Music Festival will once again be filmed for a national television special to air on the ABC Television Network. This is the ninth consecutive year that the event has been filmed    for a network television special, a feat no other music festival has achieved. CBS aired the first CMA Music Festival special in 2004, with ABC airing it from 2005 onward through 2021. "CMA
Music Festival: Country's Night to Rock" will be executive-produced by Robert Deaton.

Lee Brice “A Woman Like You” Hits #1 + News Release "Parking Lot Party"

“A Woman Like You” Hits #1 and Tops Billboard Chart
As New Album Preps For April 24 Launch

Lee Brice to Make National Late Night Debut
with May 1st Performance on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”
Nashville, TN – April 10, 2012 – Everything Lee Brice touches career-wise is proving the truth in the old industry adage and country music hit – “when you’re hot, you’re hot.”
With his current single “A Woman Like You” hitting the top of the Billboard chart, Curb Records is releasing today a second iTunes exclusive download from Brice’s forthcoming album project, Hard 2 Love.  The highly-touted new album will street April 24 with a strong lead-in at retail already established.

iTunes will offer a second exclusive download, “Parking Lot Party,” from the new album package as a “sneak preview” offered by Curb Records followed by a third download to follow on April 17.

Adding to Brice’s industry creds as a creative force to be reckoned with is the recent win of ACM “Song of the Year” honors by the Eli Young Band with the Brice-penned blockbuster, “Crazy Girl.”  After a string of huge successes as a hit songwriter putting his words in the mouths of a litany of country music’s most virile chart toppers from Garth Brooks and Kenny Chesney to Jason Aldean and Tim McGraw, Brice is now focusing his stellar hit creating ability on propelling his own emergence as a superstar.

Brice’s 2012 breakthrough to new levels of connectivity with radio and retail is a success story of note.  “A Woman Like You” proved Curb’s delivery system in navigating the single to the top of the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, with a blazing track record of over 700,000 digital downloads already sold.

Hard 2 Love will provide the much anticipated studio follow-up to Brice’s critically-acclaimed debut album Love Like Crazy, which spawned Billboard’s Most Played Country Song of 2010 by virtue of its title track.

Seldom away from the spotlight over the past few months, Brice filled a rare and recent high visibility country music co-host slot on the “Today” show.  He’s set to guest on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” on May 1 with a major round of high-powered media visits being strategically planned to ignite awareness on the Hard 2 Love launch.

(Nashville, TN-4-10-12) The Allen Karl Tour started in England April 4th.  He has completed 4 concerts to date with his last concert in England April 9th.  Each venue has been overly pleased, stating that they have enjoyed record ticket sales at all of Allen's shows, and in this economy, they are extremely happy.  So happy, that they have already started asking about making sure that Allen is available for a longer tour either later this year or in 2013.

BBC Radio Network has interviewed Allen on two different occasions since he started his tour, and  played Allen’s music for over an hour.  That in itself is a great recommendation from Europe’s greatest Radio Network.

Allen will be leaving England on April 10th for Dublin, Ireland where he will meet his duet partner Donna Cunningham who will be joining him for the rest of his tour. Confirmed dates have been set for Ireland, Austria, Germany and Spain.

All of Allen's European promoters are ecstatic to see his first European tour starting off with such a major success in England.

Allen was extremely impressed and grateful for the 6 piece UK band, Red Rock County, for the countless hours they put into practicing prior to Allen's arrival, so they could duplicate Allen's records on stage. A special thank you goes out to Lynn Butler for her great background harmony.

Allen Karl has jumped on board this great train of success, and now with Donna joining him for the rest of the tour to different countries, the results will be growing in ticket numbers, as the duet team reaches out to their current fans, and extends an invitation to many new fans, as their duet single “Your Name Is On My Lips Again,” speeds towards #1 in the charts throughout Europe and the U.S.

LiveWire Encourages Artists Everywhere to Get Involved With Tornado Relief Causes

LiveWire Encourages Artists Everywhere to Get Involved With Tornado Relief Causes

LiveWire Gone promo
NASHVILLE, TN (April 9, 2012) -- On February 29, Country band, LiveWire, was scheduled to debut a 60 second Public Service Announcement on The Country Network. The group and their label, Way Out West Records, had created the PSA to focus awareness on the continuing needs of the residents of their tornado ravaged hometown of Joplin, Missouri, which was struck last May by one of the most deadly tornados in U.S. history.

But on the morning of the 29th the members of LiveWire changed their plans and made a decision to pull the PSA after they awoke to the news that a severe weather system had unleashed another series of tornados in Kansas the night before, hopping across Arkansas and Missouri and crashing into nearby Branson before continuing to gain strength as it raced across the country wreaking death and destruction in communities in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee and Ohio.

"At the time, we felt like it was best not to air it," states LiveWire band leader Bobby DeGonia about the PSA. "Even though we had planned the spot for several months, we did not want it to seem like we were being insensitive to the losses in the other communities, so our label contacted The Country Network and asked them to pull the PSA before it aired."

But after more deadly storms occurred on March 2nd  and 3rd in Alabama, Indiana, and Ohio, LiveWire and their label began to rethink things. Band member, Danny Bell, who wrote the song "Miracle Of The Human Spirit" last year to benefit Joplin says, "We started thinking, 'Wait a minute. Our PSA is to help Joplin. Our own band members, families and friends have suffered from the tornado there. But people are in need all across the country. Maybe our message will help to raise awareness about tornado victims in general and more people will help. So our manager had a conversation with the folks at the Country Network and they agreed, and the spot began airing a few weeks ago."

In light of the tornados that hit the Dallas/Ft. Worth area last week, impacting over 6 million people, the members of LiveWire are convinced that they made the right decision and have released the following statement:

"Tornados are becoming more widespread and many people are hurting, everywhere. The needs go on long after the news cameras go away. As a band, we can use our music as a platform to get the message out. We commend Taylor Swift and Sheryl Crow for their recent donations to tornado victims, and Lady Antebellum for getting involved with their upcoming private prom party and public concert to aid in the rebuilding of Henryville, Indiana. We also want to recognize Joplin-native Kenny Foster and other artists for their great songs about what happened to our town. Those are all wonderful contributions. But it will take everyone doing something to help all of the affected victims. We should all try to do as much as we can to help those in need and we encourage other artists to join in the cause. Together, we can make a difference."

LiveWire features lead singer/acoustic guitarist Andy Eutsler, lead guitarist Bobby DeGonia, drummer Adam Hagerman, fiddle player Cory Shultz, rhythm guitarist Danny Bell and bassist Landon Rolfe. LiveWire's unique Ozark Mountain firebrand sound blends working man's Country and rootsy Southern Rock. Edgy and passionate, their original songs are infused with the kind of lyrical integrity and expert musicianship that can only be forged through years of shared personal experiences and hardships. Themes of the common man resound - it's music about real life: good times, hard times, poverty, love, loss, family, spirituality, death and redemption.

Since forming in the mid-90s, LiveWire has forged a reputation as one of the top-draw live acts in the Midwest by regularly packing venues in their home state of Missouri and in the surrounding areas of Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas. Along the way, their homegrown talent has taken them across America where they have opened for a "Who's Who" of the music world, and experienced a brush with the "big time" as finalists in the 2009 Colgate Country Showdown, where they performed on the hallowed stage of the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.

LiveWire released their debut single "Tater Fed" in May 2001. The song climbed both the U.S. and European charts and was supported with a video shot by Nashville director Flick Wiltshire (Jason Sturgeon/Tracy Lawrence). The group self-released a self-titled debut EP in June 2011. After signing with Nashville-based Way Out West Records in late 2011, LiveWire released a single via iTunes entitled "Miracle Of The Human Spirit," with proceeds going to benefit the rebuilding efforts in the band's hometown of Joplin, MO, which was devastated by an EF-5 tornado on May 22, 2011. The powerful video for the song was directed by Mark Nicolosi (Stealing Angels/Mark Wills) and gave an International platform for the band to help raise awareness about the needs in Joplin by gaining airplay on CMT Pure, The Country Network, and GACTV.com,among other outlets.

LiveWire is currently in pre-production for their full-length debut album slated for release in summer 2012. The album's lead single, "Gone (Remix)," is at radio now.
