Country Music Star Craig Morgan Partner to Benefit Folds of Honor and Military Families

Bushnell and Country Music Star Craig Morgan Partner
to Benefit Folds of Honor and Military Families

Overland Park, Kan. — (March 30, 2012) — Bushnell Outdoor Products, an industry-leader in high performance sports optics for more than 60 years, has announced a music download donation partnership with country music star and award-winning TV host Craig Morgan to benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation. A 10-year veteran of the U.S. Army, Morgan has written and dedicated a new song titled “What Matters Most” to the heroes Folds of Honor supports.

The track, a tribute to the millions of service men and women who defend America’s freedom, parallels the stories of so many who have lost loved ones on the field of battle. All proceeds from the donation download offer are donated to Folds of Honor, supporting its mission to provide scholarships to the children and spouses of disabled or fallen soldiers.

“This song is inspired by and dedicated to the millions of spouses and children who put their lives on hold while their loved ones risk everything to defend our freedom,” said country music star and former Army veteran Craig Morgan. “Each download will help Folds of Honor support the families of our courageous military heroes,” added Morgan.

Bushnell, a Folds of Honor corporate partner and sponsor of Craig Morgan All-Access Outdoors, will donate the first 10,000 song downloads. Once the song has been downloaded 10,000 times, it will be available for $1, or consumers can donate $5, $25, $50 or $100 to Folds of Honor through the “What Matters Most” download platform.

Founded by Major Dan Rooney in 2007, Folds Of Honor provides post-secondary educational scholarships to the spouses and children of service members disabled or killed during U.S. military service. Major Rooney, a former F-16 pilot who served three tours in Iraq, founded Folds of Honor to ensure that families of fallen service members never have to endure alone.

For more information about the What Matters Most project and the story behind the song, visit the download page at www.whatmattersmost.foldsofhonor.org. To learn more about Folds of Honor and its commitment to help the families of fallen and disabled service members, visit www.foldsofhonor.org.

About Folds of Honor Foundation
More than one million dependents have been affected by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and 87 percent of them do not qualify for federal scholarship assistance. Folds of Honor, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization with a mission to empower deserving military families with educational support and opportunities, is helping fill that gap by providing educational scholarships for children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving our great nation.

Earl Scruggs, one half of the duo Flatt and Scruggs, banjo pioneer and Country Music Hall of Fame inductee, died on Wednesday March 28th in a Nashville,  hospital. He was 88. Scruggs' son Gary told the Associated Press that his father died of natural causes. Born in Shelby, N.C., Scruggs first gained prominence in the 1940s as a member of Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys. While with Monroe, Scruggs popularised the syncopated, three-finger style of banjo playing that would subsequently become known as the "Scruggs style." Scruggs paired with fellow Monroe band member Lester Flatt later in the decade to form Flatt and Scruggs. Though the group won a Grammy Award in 1969 for Scruggs' instrumental "Foggy Mountain Breakdown," the group is probably best known to a general audience for "The Ballad of Jed Clampett," which became the theme song for the sitcom The Beverly Hillbillies. The duo appeared numerous times on the series. Flatt and Scruggs were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1985. Scruggs would go on to win a second Grammy in 2002, for a 2001 version of "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" recorded with an ensemble that included comedian Steve Martin, Vince Gill,  Albert Lee, Paul Shaffer, Leon Russdell and Marty Stuart.

ON THE ROAD WITH BOB & SHEILA EVERHART April 2. 2012

ON THE ROAD WITH BOB & SHEILA EVERHART
Anita, Iowa....."We finally made it back home."  The dynamic Smithsonian duo, Bob & Sheila have been on tour in California and Texas, and are now back home at the Oak Tree Opry in Anita, Iowa.  "We left pretty nice weather in Texas," Bob added, "but we hit incredible rain storms in Oklahoma and Kansas.  We were so surprised to see how beautiful the weather is in Iowa right now.  Last year we came home at this same time, and there was snow on the ground.  This year our apple trees are blooming.  So that sure means it's time for SpringFest at the Oak Tree Opry (April 20-21-22) and we certainly have a line-up of great upper Midwest talent.  Some of the names are automatic ticket sellers.  We're also going to have a great time with former Anita resident, Bob Duff, a multi-millionaire who now lives in Newport Beach, California.  He is a champion auctioneer, and he's going to sell a bunch of stuff on the Saturday matinee to raise money to fix the theater roof."
"Yes, we seem to get new leaks every year now," Sheila added, "and we'll keep trying to get them water proofed just as soon as we can find them.  In the meantime, we'll just have to set buckets under the leaks."
"We're going to have a great time with SpringFest," Bob added, "but first, Sheila and I are performing on the River Junction Jubilee in McGregor, Iowa, April 14-15.  It's a great old-time gathering, we even have to dress up in period costumes going back to fur-trader days.  Fortunately we still have some costumes from our time performing at Silver Dollar City in Branson. I guess I have done about 25 years with Silver Dollar City off and on.  Anyway, it should be fun, but our gig is far up in the north-east corner of Iowa."
"We finally found a fast-food budget lunch that dad really likes," Bobbie Lhea, the Everharts 15-year old daughter added.  "The Kentucky Fried Chicken has a brand-new chicken pot pie, and according to dad it's really really good.  He says it tastes just like a home-made one, crust and all.  So that makes a great budget lunch for us."
"It looks like there's going to be about 50 performers on the SpringFest," Sheila added, "we're already getting the theater ready, and I know a lot of people will want to see Bobby Awe who is coming just to help get the roof fixed. Clarence Hayden, Lee Muller, Janine Sherry, Bill Hendren, and a whole slew of great entertainers are going to be with us, even little LeMar the singing French dog.  It sure is going to be fun, and we already have quite a few seats reserved for the whole weekend.  Call 712-762-4363 to reserve a seat."

THOMPSON SQUARE WINS “VOCAL DUO OF THE YEAR” at the 47th Annual ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS

THOMPSON SQUARE WINS “VOCAL DUO OF THE YEAR” at the
47th Annual ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS
Chart-Topping Duo Pulls Biggest Upset in
Recent Country Music History

(LAS VEGAS, NV) – Last night – in arguably the biggest awards show upset in recent Country music history - Stoney Creek Records duo Thompson Square were awarded the Academy of Country Music’s 2011 “Vocal Duo of the Year” Award.
The husband/wife duo comprised of Keifer and Shawna Thompson was surprised with the award onstage by ACM CEO Bob Romeo in front of thousands of screaming fans at the ACM Salute to the Military Concert at the ACM Experience at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on Saturday night -- just moments after they had completed their set.
Thompson Square – who was officially honored as “Country Music's Breakthrough Artist of 2011” by Music Row Magazine in February — dethroned reigning Country superstars Sugarland who have won the award for 2 years.  Sugarland is also the reigning CMA Awards Vocal Duo for the past 4 years.
Thompson Square becomes only the third duo to win the ACM “Vocal Duo of the Year” Award in the past 20 years (since 1991) with Sugarland and Brooks & Dunn previously winning in the category respectively.
“It’s been a long, long road,” Keifer Thompson told the crowd.  “This is one of the greatest nights of our lives.”  Overcome with emotion, he continued, “It’s hard to talk when you’re crying.”
“This is a very bittersweet moment for me,” added Shawna Thompson as she fought back tears. “More sweet than bitter.  My dad passed away a month ago.  This is for my dad.”
Thompson Square’s win is a Country Music Cinderella Story of sorts as the duo is hardly an “overnight success,” despite its quickly skyrocketing career.
In fact, Keifer and Shawna Thompson pounded the pavement for 13 years in the music industry before finally signing to tiny independent label Stoney Creek Records.  The young married couple worked odd jobs, played bar shows and knocked on countless closed doors during that time before deciding they would hang up their microphones after one last year of perseverance.  During one final showcase, Broken Bow Records President/ CEO Benny Brown recognized something special in Thompson Square and signed them to his brand new independent label Stoney Creek Records (sister label to Broken Bow Records and home to Jason Aldean).
Two years ago to this very DAY, Thompson Square was first introduced to Country Radio at a suite performance during ACM Awards weekend.  One year ago to this very WEEK, Thompson Square’s inaugural smash, “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not,” reached the #1 spot at Country Radio.
In the past year, Thompson Square’s star has risen meteorically. The duo’s self-titled, debut album has produced 2011’s #1 Most Played Country Song “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not,” the follow-up Top 10 hit, “I Got You,” as well as the duo’s latest hit, “Glass,” which showcases a more serious side of the duo as well as poignant, powerhouse vocals from Shawna Thompson.
In only one year, Thompson Square has seen the release of its first album debut at #3 on the Billboard Country Sales Chart and its smash, “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not,” reach #1 on both the Billboard and Mediabase Country radio charts, conquer the Billboard Heat Seekers Chart, spend 5 weeks at #1 on the Country Digital Soundscan Chart and remain the #1 Country Ringtone for 12 weeks straight.  At press time, “Are You Going to Kiss Me Or Not,” was nearing double platinum sales status.
Thompson Square also earned 16 major award show nominations in less than 12 months, including two 2012 GRAMMY nominations for “Best Country Song” and “Best Country Duo/Group Performance of the Year.”
In December, Thompson Square returned home for the holidays as the 2nd most awarded act at FOX’s 2nd Annual American Country Awards, winning the fan-voted trophies for Single of the Year by a Group; Single of the Year by a New Artist; Music Video of the Year by a New Artist (“Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not”).
Also in 2011, Thompson Square was named one of USA Today’s “Six Pack of Success” stories, was heralded as USA Weekend’s “Who’s Hot in Hollywood,” peaked at #3 on MTV’s Music Meter (all genres) and landed on Entertainment Weekly’s “Hot List.”
Thompson Square ended 2011 as the “New Country Artist of the Year” (Mediabase) as well as Billboard’s #1 New Country Artist of 2011, in terms of sales.  The duo also ranked as Billboard’s #6 New Artist of 2011 (sales - all genres) and “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not,” was named iTunes’ “Country Single of 2011.”
In their short time on the scene, Thompson Square has performed on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Conan, Fox & Friends, NBC’s The Better Show, the 45th Annual CMA Awards, GAC’s Christmas in the Black Hills and Fox’s Summer Concert Series, as well as been featured in USA Weekend, Entertainment Weekly, People Country, the Associated Press, MSN Wonderwall, Country Weekly, Southwest Spirit Magazine, USA Today, Chicago Tribune, The Washington Post, Pollstar, and Billboard.
Additionally, the 2011 American Music Award nominee for New Artist of the Year is also the only duo to reach #1 on CMT’s Top 50 Artist Chart in 2011.  2011 also found Thompson Square nominated for multiple CMA and CMT Awards as well as playing to over one million fans, many as part of Jason Aldean’s My Kind of Party Tour.
Thompson Square is currently criss-crossing the U.S. as part of Lady Antebellum’s Own The Night World Tour with upcoming stops to include two nights at NYC’s legendary Radio City Music Hall on May 3 and 4.
Even with all of Thompson Square’s recent success, Keifer and Shawna have still found time to give back.  The duo recently partnered with ChildFund International to raise awareness and support for children across the world dying from hunger and poverty.  Thompson Square has personally sponsored a little girl named Lady in Indonesia. The duo will also give a free, autographed copy of its self-titled debut album to fans that sign up to sponsor a child at Thompson Square concerts.
Thompson Square will appear tonight as presenters on the 47th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards broadcast beginning at 8 pm ET/ 7 pm CT on CBS.
