DJ Ötzi und The Bellamy Brothers Videos „Crossfire“, „Hotel Angel“, „Let Your Love Flow“ und „Like A Star“

Doch auch Gefühle sind groß geschrieben, wenn die drei Musiker gemeinsam die Country-Balladen "If I Sad You Had" oder "I Need More Of You" performen. "Simply The Best" eben – für DJ Ötzi und The Bellamy Brothers.

Startschuss für den Wilden Westen - Pullman City öffnet ab 31. März die Tore

Startschuss für den Wilden Westen
Pullman City öffnet ab 31. März die Tore –
Festeinzug, Shows und Aktionen zum Mitmachen

Eging am See, 12.

Steel Guitar News March 12. 2012

Hello fellow players,

Here is a question I got from Bill in Oregon.

Hi Bobbe
I really enjoy your newsletter and I was wondering if you ever had the chance to work with Jimmy Bryant or have any good stories that you could share about him and Speedy West.
Thanks,
Bill
Hermiston, OR

I have many stories of Jimmy Bryant, a lot of them not so good, however I definitely enjoyed working with him in Vegas in the beginning of the seventies.  He was a great player and definitely played a lot of fast things very well.  His personality could be a little far out there when he drank and he loved to drink.

I remember a beautiful girl coming up to him at the bandstand one night.  He looked at her and said, “You are one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen.”

Blushingly she looked at him and replied, “I am a grandmother you know.”

He looked at her and said, “I bet you’re a great grandmother.”

Then looking at me he said, “Doesn’t she look like the greatest grandmother you ever saw?”

I know the girl couldn’t have been over thirty-five, but Jimmy wouldn’t let the point get by.  Watching how he dealt with her and related to other people was pretty funny at times.

He came to Nashville to work in the studios but died while waiting for his first session.  I don’t know if it would have worked out for him or not but what he and Speedy West did for the business was pretty wonderful.

Here is an email I got from Billy Woo.

Hi Bobbe

I was wondering where and when to lubricate my steels, I just bought an
Emmons Le Grande II from Larry Petree (Bakersfield, CA) and Larry did
mention to use a product called Tri-Flow, also it might be beneficial to
remind Steelers to lube as a lot of us forget that we are playing a
mechanical instrument also I have a U-12 Zumsteel?

Thanks and as always appreciate your newsletter, Jeremy Lin is great, hey
I'm part Asian too, last name is Woo

Billy Woo aka
Bronco Billy

I’m still getting a lot of people asking me about lubrication of a steel guitar.  Just remember, never use WD-40 anywhere with the exception of the hinges on your case.  Several people recommend Tri-Flow.  Just make sure whatever you use has an anti-rust additive and is thick enough that it won’t run all over the guitar and drip on the floor and in the case.

Many people still use 3-in-1 oil and will still rave about its ability.  I know it does have an anti-rust additive and when you put it on your guitar, just wipe off any extra so it won’t get all over anything.

I’d like to say that I know several steel players in West Liberty, Kentucky and after seeing your town flattened by the tornadoes on television, I send out my condolences and wish I was able to be there and help.  I have a lot of friends in that area and it is as beautiful a part of the United States as there is.  Such a shame Mother Nature has to be so destructive at times.

Another thing I want to mention is the Pedal Steel Guitar Association in the northeast under the direction of Bob Maickel.  He puts out one of the very greatest newsletters with the greatest pictures on a monthly basis that I have ever seen.  These boys in this club work very hard to bring their members the best news and fun that they can for just the price of being a club member.  If you are not a member of this club, you should be no matter where you live in the United States.  You can find them at www.psga.org

It seems that many of you are getting ready for a good summer playing season by stocking up on expendables such as cords, bars, picks, strings or anything you think you may need because it looks like it will be a good steel guitar season.  Being over prepared for anything that could go wrong is always a good idea.

Check out our monthly specials at  http://www.steelguitar.net/monthlyspecials.html and we’ll try to save you a lot of money.

Bobbe

Grey Fox Announces 2012 "Who's Who" Lineup

Grey Fox Announces 2012 "Who's Who" Lineup

Hot Rize, David Grisman, Del McCoury, Infamous Stringdusters, Mountain Heart, David Bromberg and other stars will be out at award-winning event July 19-22, 2012 in New York's Catskill Mountains

Once again, Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, on the Walsh Farm in Oak Hill, NY, has outdone itself, having assembled an all-star lineup that underscores the event's reputation as a "Who's Who of Bluegrass" that draws thousands of fans from all parts of the globe.

This year's artist roster overflows with Grammy, IBMA, AMA and CMA award winners and nominees such as Hot Rize (and their alter egos, Red Knuckles and the Trail Blazers), Del McCoury, the David Grisman Sextet, the Infamous Stringdusters, Punch Brothers, David Bromberg, Mountain Heart, the Gibson Brothers, Chris Thile and Michael Daves Duo, The SteelDrivers, Blue Highway, Noam Pikelny, Aoife O'Donovan, and Tony Trischka. Host band, as always, will be Dry Branch Fire Squad, led by one of the great raconteurs of bluegrass, Ron Thomason. And the lineup is still growing, so stay tuned for more great bands yet to be announced. Click to see full lineup (so far, that is).

Two bluegrass icons who have each been named National Heritage Fellows and Grand Old Opry members will perform at this year's festival: Del McCoury, who is a perennial favorite at Grey Fox; and Jesse McReynolds (aka the Ironman of Bluegrass Mandolin) who began his professional career in 1947. McReynolds' latest recording project, Songs of the Grateful Dead, is a highly acclaimed tribute to the late, great Jerry Garcia.

As much as Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival is known for its well-established, highly-decorated and internationally recognized lineup, it is equally famous for introducing hot, young bands to the Northeast, quite often jumpstarting their careers. Red hot, up-and-coming talent at this year's Grey Fox are: The Hillbenders (actually back for the third consecutive year); Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen and Monroeville (returning due to popular demand); Bearfoot (originally from Alaska); country-blues singer from Chicago, Sarah and the Tall Boys; acclaimed songwriters Ann and Pete Sibley; the jazz-grass band, Too Blue; and Albany area favorites, Jim Gaudet and the Railroad Boys.

And as if three big, beautiful performance venues aren't enough, Grey Fox producer, Mary Tyler Doub, is all about education and providing ways to pass bluegrass music on to new audiences, new players and especially, to the next generation. To this end, Grey Fox presents hands-on Workshops, user-friendly Slow Jams, and a Family Tent with shows and activities each day for kids of all ages. Last, but not least, is the very popular Bluegrass Academy for Kids, a four-day music camp held during the festival with daily classes in all bluegrass stringed instruments and harmony singing, which culminates with a performance on the Main Stage on Sunday afternoon. Academy registration starts April 1.

Once a year, like magic, a small tent city appears in a farmer's field in Oak Hill, NY, about 30 miles southwest of Albany, NY. For five days in July, it is home to thousands of bluegrass and roots music fans from 30 to 40 states and several countries, often including visitors from Ireland, Scotland, France, Italy, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Russia, the Czech Republic, and as far away as Australia, New Zealand and Japan. About a quarter attendees are day visitors, but the bulk of Grey Fox fans come to camp, enjoy the summer weather, hear their favorite bands, discover new ones, meet new and old friends and when the time is right they tune up their guitars, mandolins, banjos, fiddles and basses and jam until they drop.

Also in the works for Grey Fox 2012 are nightly artist showcases, a songwriter forum, presentations by the Berklee College of Music American Roots Music Program, a Bluegrass Band Open Mic Happening, and night sky viewings facilitated by Mid-Hudson Astronomical Society. Pete Wernick's Bluegrass Jam Camp will take place Monday, July 16 thru Thursday, July 19 at the Oak Hill Fire Hall for all levels of musicians who want to learn how to jam with others. (Register at DrBanjo.com)

There truly is something for every member of the family and every generation at Grey Fox. Come experience the magic of music. You might just come back every year!

Marilyn Manson

“Lunchbox,” “Get Your Gunn” , “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)”,  “The Beautiful People,” “Antichrist Superstar,” “Tourniquet,” “The Dope Show,” “I Don’t Like the Drugs (But the Drugs Like Me),” “The Fight Song,” “Mobscene “Heart-Shaped Glasses,” “Coma White” und “If I Was Your Vampire.”

(„Mechanical Animals“, „The Golden Age of Grotesque“).

George Hamilton IV Interview at The International Ambassador of Country Music

George Hamilton IV - The International Ambassador of Country Music

Stan Silver:
Hello Mr. Hamilton and welcome to Mannheim, Germany. It's great to meet you again and that you take your time before the show tonight here at the SAP Arena to do this interview. Tell me how it came about that you are referred to as “The InternationalAmbassador of Country Music”.

George Hamilton IV:
Well, that goes back quite a few years. In 1973 I was invited to be part of an international country music festival at Wembley Stadium in London by Mervyn Conn. Quite a big event with many international artists. And on that festival there was Jiri Brabec, a country singer from Prag performing with his band “The Country Beat”.  He was one of the most popular country singer in the Czech Republic at that time and due to the political situation back then it surely wasn't easy for him to come to the “West” to perform. But neither was it the other way around that an american country singer could just go to the “East”. After we got to know each other a bit Jiri Brabec came up with just that idea and invited me to perform with him and his band. It took all but a year and in 1974 I was invited to perform with Jiri Brabec & The Country Beat at the Sports Halle in Prag. Since I was a “No name” in the Czech Republic I was quite stunned that the place was packed with about 28.000 people. Of course most people did come mainly because of Jiri Brabec & The Country Beat. Of course it was a wonderful opportunity and a great honor to present myself to such a big and lovely audience.
Well, the word got around all the way to Moskau that there's this country boy from Nashville, Tennessee playing in Prag. So the folks from the American Embassy actually informed me that I was truly the 1st american country music singer to perform behind the “Iron Curtain”. I was asked to come to Moskau to do a lecture concert at the Moskau University for soviet students on the history of country music. Which I of course was more than happy to do. So, I went there with a whole bunch of cassette tapes and introduced artist like Charlie Pride, Chet Atkins, and Dolly Parton just to name a few, to the students. I also got to do solo acoustic performances for the “Railway Workers Institute” and played a show at the “Palace of Culture”.
Coming back to England I was on BBC radio with DJ Mr. Bob Powel. As I was telling the story about my travel and experiences in Prag and Moskau he kind of jokingly said I deserve a titel and should be called: “The International Ambassador of Country Music”. Now Billboard Magazin picked up on that and actually gave me an award where they titeled me “The International Ambassador of Country Music” for taking country music behind the “Iron Curtain”. Now you know the story!

Stan Silver:
You mentioned being a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Maybe you could tell me a little bit about that. How do you become a member?

George Hamilton IV:
Yes, I've been a member of the Grand Ole Opry for 52 years. I joined on Febuary 6th 1960 to be exact.
In late 1959 I moved to Nashville and was approached by the manager of the Grand Ole Opry Mr. Ott Devine. He invited me to do some guest spots there which is a great honor to be asked to do. What I didn't know was that I was actually auditioning. After playing a few shows Mr. Devine came to me and told me that they believe I'm their kind of people and if I would like to be part of the family. That meant to be part of the cast of the Opry and on the list of the regular performers. It's one of those things you don't ask for – they invite!
Besides my wife, Tink – short for Tinkerbell – country music is the love of my life and I feel blessed to be part of this great family of country musicians and “The Mother Church of Country Music” as we like to call the Grand Ole Opry.
Stan Silver:
Mr. Hamilton I want to thank you so much for sharing all this with us and I hope you enjoy your stay and you'll come back to Germany soon.

George Hamilton IV:
Thank you for having me!
