CW’s INSIDE MUSIC ROW VISITS SHERRIE AUSTIN AT HOME

(NASHVILLE, TN) --  Film, TV, Broadway and recording star Sherrie Austin returned to Country music in a big way this year with her independently-released album, CIRCUS GIRL, which has been named one of AOL The Boot’s
Top 11 Country Albums of 2011.”

AOL The Boot -- which ranks CIRCUS GIRL alongside albums by Miranda Lambert, Brad Paisley and The Civil Wars – heralds Austin as “a terrific vocalist and a top-notch songwriter and 'Circus Girl' is her best work yet.”

Austin was recently lauded by fans as the “Taylor Swift of the Sex & The City generation,” and lived up to the unofficial title when AOL The Boot deemed CIRCUS GIRL, “rife with humor, sensuality and a whole lot of heart.”

Austin is profiled today in a thought-provoking career feature in The Huffington Post.  In the article, Austin candidly discusses the liberation of releasing a DIY project as well as the rollercoaster of a life-long career in the entertainment industry: http://huff.to/vxhbKP

Austin’s first new album in 8 years, was also recently spotlighted as part of Billboard’s 615 Country. Austin discusses her new music with Billboard and how it speaks directly to the 30-40 year old female audience – something that not many are doing on today’s Country radio.  http://www.billboard.com/column/the-615/sherrie-austin-goes-diy-for-first-album-1005616812.story#/column/the-615/sherrie-austin-goes-diy-for-first-album-1005616812.story

Austin has also garnered attention recently for her role in the Sundance Channel reality documentary series, “Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys.” Austin stars with her real-life best friend, songwriter/ artist Shane Stevens (co-writer of Lady Antebellum’s “American Honey”) on the show’s 2nd season that documents the lives of straight women and their friendships with their gay male best friends.

This Friday, fans of both Austin’s music and “Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys,” can tune in to the show to see the making of the music video for Austin’s fun, infectious holiday single, “Naughty or Nice,” a duet with Shane Stevens.  The holiday hit can be seen nationwide on CMT, GAC and The Country Network as well as on CMC in Australia. The making-of “Naughty or Nice” episode airs this Friday, Dec. 16th on the Sundance Channel at 9 pm ET/ 8 pm CT.

Austin will be featured on the CW’s Inside Music Row the very next evening as she invites fans into her Nashville home for an inside look on the making of CIRCUS GIRL.  Inside Music Row airs on the CW network on Saturday, Dec. 17th at 9:30 pm CT and is syndicated nationwide. ABOUT SHERRIE AUSTIN & CIRCUS GIRL:
The Australian-born ACM nominee and Golden Guitar Award winner previously enjoyed success on the Country charts with her hits, “Streets of Heaven,” “Never Been Kissed,” and “Lucky in Love,” during her days on Arista Nashville and Broken Bow Records.  Most recently, Austin earned rave reviews for her starring roles on another type of stage - the New York Musical Theatre Festival’s production of Bonnie & Clyde and the Broadway productions of Ring Of Fire- The Johnny Cash Musical Show and Warrior.  Returning to Nashville in 2006, Austin made a name for herself as an in-demand songwriter, penning songs for Trace Adkins, Blake Shelton, Tim McGraw and George Strait.

It is, in fact, Austin’s stint as a career songwriter helped inspire many of the songs on CIRCUS GIRL. The collection is a female-empowerment record, from  “Friday Night Girls,” the anthem for the brokenhearted single gals cutting loose and letting their hair down, to the raw, spunky, honest sensuality of “Just Wanna Love You Tonite,” to the feisty, matter-of-fact kiss-off track, “Get Your Leaving Done.” The album is a series of stories interpreted by a strong woman, about women, and for women, and Austin feels it’s something her female fans have been clamoring for, for quite some time.

At the urging of her fans, Austin decided to enter the recording “big top” once again. This time she found that a process that once had frustrated her is now exciting her again. “It stopped being fun for me, making records and touring, which is why I focused on writing, but this is fun again. I have freedom now that I never had before. I’m making music for my fans, my music,” she says.

RED JOHNSON The Old Man At A Table

RED JOHNSON The Old Man At A Table

The Old Man At A Table - You Can't Buy Happiness - Your Love Is Mine - Live Each Moment - The Frozen Snow - Pardon Me For Looking In - You Can't Hold Me Forever - You Are Not The Answer - Guitar - The Town Balladeer - You Hang Up The Moon For Me - You And I - A Place In My Heart

I've been a fan of Red Johnson's ever since I first heard "There's A Grand Ole Opry Show Playing Somewhere" he made a hit for Capitol Records.  This guy is a natural country singer.  He's a natural country guitar picker.  He's a natural country songwriter.  I say this because  Red Johnson knows how to write a 'story' in a song, and his lead track on this CD is incredibly good.  "The Old Man At A Table" is one of those 'story' songs that will bring a tear to your eye, and at the same time give the listener one of the best 'tips' of living a full life, anyone is likely to ever hear.  What's also neat about Red Johnson is his ability to get a good 'attention getter' cover on his CD's.  This particular one has an old man at a table, and it just happens to be Red Johnson.  I can't believe how I was so simply moved by the way this wonderful old-timey traditional country CD was put together.  Red's voice stands out in the mix, just as it used to be in 'real' country music.  Not devoured and hidden in loud outrageous noisy instrumental music makers.  On the contrary, this Red Johnson CD is mixed just right all the way through.  That's so important today, because Red is recording for an older buying market, and he knows exactly what he's doing in making this work for him.  I'm not sure where he cut this, but the studio work is fine, so are the musicians though they are mostly better known playing in the Rio Grande Valley and around Minnesota than they are in the recording studio. On lead guitar is Chuck Peterson and Kenny Nelson.  On harmonica is Don Grubb.  On steel-guitar (and quite well done) is Kermit Clarin.  On Acoustic guitar, bass, drums, strings, piano, and lead vocals is Red Johnson.  Judy Fasse helped him out on a couple songs with some vocal harmony.  Red has won some accolades at our festival in LeMars, Iowa, and this CD is definitely going to the Rural Roots Music Commission for "Traditional Country CD of the Year" award.  Good luck Red I hope you get it, you are very deserving.  Red makes his home (in the summer time) in Minnesota, and that makes Minnesota a very lucky state.  We will hope to be seeing him at the LeMars Festival in 2012, but he is also very popular on the Minnesota State Fair.  Not my cup of tea to get too involved in political issues, but Red's "Pardon Me For Looking In" hits the nerve just right.  This could go 'viral' as they say on the Internet.  All and all this is one of Red Johnson's best 'new' projects.  Highly recommended to anyone who really likes their country......"Country."  Visit Red at his website www.redjohnson.net and get acquainted with one of our really good country artists from the upper Midwest.

RAY LAWRENCE JR. Raw & Unplugged

RAY LAWRENCE JR. Raw & Unplugged

Check's In The Mail - Tonight She'll Be Makin' Love To Me Again - There's Another Cheatin' Heart - Tonight They're Makin' Babies - Hobo Story - She Stopped Loving' Me - My Hurtin' Will Be Gone - Lot Lizards Don't Love You - Just Kick My Ass To Texas - Lucky Bastard - You Can Hide Your Body But You Can't Hide Your Beauty - Two Timin' Mama - Stay With Me Tonight

This CD is definitely raw and unplugged.  I'm not sure there is a large enough market to make such a large number of love's infidelity very popular.  George Jones and Conway Twitty has pretty much covered this territory, and did it manifold.  Ray is giving it a good go however, but the 'topics' he chooses to write about has pretty much been done and overdone in country music.  Anybody that has ever lost someone they love, or been involved with someone they love who cheats on them, is going to directly connect to what Ray is writing about, but quite frankly it's a somewhat overdone.  He even takes to cursing in some of his creations, and that's not going to set very well outside of a bar-room somewhere, and maybe not even there.  He's a pretty good singer though, uses his southwest accent to emphasize some of the aspects of the songs that he writes.  This is kind of a 'demo' CD demonstrating his ability to 'write' rather than 'play and sing.'  The only accompanient is his own guitar, and that's strictly 3-chord rhythm.  If Mr. Lawrence was plugging these songs 40 years ago in the country music market, he just might find singers standing in line to get his songs.  In today's world I don't see that happening, but one thing is for sure, Ray Lawrence, Jr., is definitely a country music songwriter, and he's a pretty good one.  His melody lines are good, and his word rhythm patterns are good, and his progressions are good.  Carolyn Camp helped him get this recording done, and it sounds like a two-microphone set-up, and it's done as good as it can be done.  All of the songs are published through RLJ Music Publishing Co.  I want to personally wish Ray Lawrence Jr. all the luck in the world, keep at it Ray, there's definitely a reason why you are doing what you are doing.
