LIZ ANDERSON HAS PASSED AWAY

COUNTRY MUSIC SUFFERS A GREAT LOSS
LEGENDARY SONGWRITER-LIZ ANDERSON
HAS PASSED AWAY

Liz Anderson - The Cowgirl WayLynn Anderson’s mother, Liz Anderson, passed away October 31, 2011, at the age of 80, from complications of heart and lung disease.  Liz & her husband Casey are a great part of the Nashville Songwriters community.  Liz and Casey wrote Strangers & Lonesome Fugitive that were giant hits for Merle Haggard.

Please keep Lynn, Casey and family in your thoughts and prayers at this time of sadness and loss of their loved one.

MAY HER SOUL REST IN THE LOVING ARMS OF OUR BLESSED LORD.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS ARE NOT COMPLETED AT THIS TIME.

Born Elizabeth Jane Haaby in Roseau, Minnesota. Anderson played the family mandolin as a child and also sang in the local church. At age 13, the family moved west to Grand Forks, North Dakota. At the age of 16, Liz was married to Casey Anderson and then had her daughter Lynn a year later. She studied at the Redwood City Business College in Redwood City, California, and worked as asecretary
Early career
In 1957, the family moved to Sacramento, California. The limited popularity at the time of country music in California led Anderson to start writing songs. Casey was a member of the Sherrif's Posse, which was going to take part in the National centennial Pony Express Celebration. Casey convinced his wife to write a song in honor of the Pony Express. The song was named the official song.[1]
Anderson began publishing her songs and made friends within the burgeoning country music community in Bakersfield during the early 1960s. Some of the first hits from her pen were "Be Quiet Mind" by Del Reeves and "Pick of the Week", which was recorded byRoy Drusky in 1964. In 1965, Merle Haggard recorded her song "All My Friends Are Gonna Be Strangers". She won a BMI award for the song. Anderson published over 260 songs during her career and earned five BMI awards. Many major country artists of the 1960s recorded at least one of her songs on their albums, including Charley PrideTammy WynetteErnest TubbLoretta LynnGeorge JonesSkeeter DavisWaylon JenningsKitty WellsConnie Smith and Bill Anderson.
Anderson demo vocals were noticed by RCA producer Chet Atkins who signed her to RCA in 1965. Anderson's two initial singles fared well and her third, "Game of Triangles", with Bobby Bare and Norma Jean became a Top 5 hit. In April 1967, Anderson again had a Top 5 Country hit, "Mama Spank". Among Anderson's most popular recordings were "Go Now Pay Later" (1966), "The Wife of the Party" (1967), "Tiny Tears" (1967), "Thanks A Lot For Tryin' Anyway" (1968) (one of her few hits written by someone else), and "Husband Hunting" (1970).
Around this same time her only child, daughter Lynn, was rising as a country singer. Anderson wrote a number of her daughter's early hits, including her 1967 debut single "Ride, Ride, Ride", as well as her first big hit, the Top 5 "If I Kiss You (Will You Go Away)" (also in 1967). Liz and Lynn had a Top 25 duet with "Mother May I" in 1968, and appeared together on a Mother's Day episode of theLawrence Welk Show that May. Lynn Anderson would later have her biggest success in the 1970s, becoming one of Country Music's most successful female vocalist.

Later career
Liz Anderson's own chart success began to fade from view by the start of the 1970s. In 1971, she moved to Epic Records and released the four charting singles which went no higher than the Country Top 60. One of those singles was a cover version of "I'll Never Fall In Love Again". Anderson semi-retired from the industry in 1974 and has since made only a handful of recordings.
Anderson continued to write, however, and one of her songs was a top 40 country success for Faron Young in 1977. In 1979, Lorrie Morgan had one of her first charted songs with an Anderson composition, "Tell Me I'm Only Dreaming".
In the mid 1990s, Anderson started her own record company, Showboat Records. The Cowgirl Way was her first album in over a decade. In 2006, daughter Lynn Anderson released an album for the label entitled Cowgirl, composed entirely of songs penned by her mother.

“The 45th Annual CMA Awards” Airs Nov. 9 on ABC

“The 45th Annual CMA Awards” Airs Nov. 9 on ABC
By Bob Doerschuk
September 6 was a morning of firsts as the names of CMA Awards nominees for 2011 were revealed live on ABC Television’s “Good Morning America” and at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.
“GMA” unveiled its new set that day, relocated to street level so that passersby on Times Square got a close look at Jake Owen as he performed with his band and joined The Band Perry to announce the finalists in five of the Awards categories. And at the Ryman, where the rest of the nominations were revealed onstage by Jerrod Niemann and Thompson Square, Jack Greene, the inaugural winner of CMA’s Male Vocalist, Single and Album of the Year honors in 1967, presented those three trophies to CMA as a gesture of appreciation.
For The Band Perry and Thompson Square, it was also a day of surprises, as both received news of their own nominations at the New York and Nashville announcements respectively. And for “GMA” viewers and those on site at the Ryman, a picture quickly took shape of how this year’s Awards would play out.
If any single word could characterize the 2011 Awards, it would be “competitive.” First-time nominees made their presence known in 12 CMA Awards categories, including Entertainer, Male Vocalist, Album, Vocal Duo, Single, Song, Music Video, Musical Event, Musician and New Artist. No one artist ran way ahead of the rest in terms of how many nominations they received. Indeed, four of them tied for first place in this tabulation with five each.
• Jason Aldean earned nominations for Entertainer, Male Vocalist, Album for My Kinda Party and Single and Musical Event of the Year, for “Don’t You Wanna Stay” with Kelly Clarkson.
• Defending Entertainer of the Year Brad Paisley made the finals for Entertainer, Male Vocalist, Album for This Is Country Music and Musical Event and Music Video for “Old Alabama” (featuring Alabama, members of CMA’s Country Music Hall of Fame). These raise Paisley’s total career nominations to 57, placing him in third place on the all-time list behind George Strait (81) and Alan Jackson (80).
• Five nominations went as well to reigning Male Vocalist Blake Shelton, who is in contention for Entertainer, Male Vocalist, Album for All About Tonight and Single and Music Video for “Honey Bee.”
• Taylor Swift also garnered five nominations, for Entertainer, Female Vocalist, Album for Speak Now and Song and Music Video for “Mean.” And if she wins for Album of the Year, Swift will also receive a trophy as producer.
That’s not all. Two more acts are close behind with four nominations each. The Band Perry is up for Vocal Group, New Artist and Single and Music Video for “If I Die Young.” And Zac Brown Band made the finals in categories for Vocal Group, Album for You Get What You Give, Musical Event for “As She’s Walking Away” with Alan Jackson and Single of the Year for “Colder Weather.”
All CMA Awards finalists were featured on “CMT Insider Special Edition: 2011 CMA Awards Nominations,” which included in-depth coverage of all the nominations, artist interviews and more. The 30-minute special premiered Wednesday, Sept. 7, and re-aired Saturday, Sept. 10 and Sunday, Sept. 11. Additional preview coverage was offered in “CMA Close Up Presents Road to the CMA Awards,” a half-hour special packed with artist interviews and highlights from past interviews, airing on local ABC affiliates from Oct. 28 through Nov. 9.
The CMA Awards nominees and winners are determined by the 6,400 industry professional members of CMA, which was the first trade organization formed to promote an individual genre of music in 1958. The first CMA Awards Banquet and Show was held in 1967 at Nashville’s Municipal Auditorium. The following year, the CMA Awards moved to the Ryman Auditorium and was broadcast on NBC television for the first time — making it the longest-running annual music awards program on network television. The show aired on NBC through 1971 and on the CBS Television Network from 1972 through 2005 before moving to ABC in 2006.
Winners of “The 45th Annual CMA Awards” are determined in a final round of voting by eligible voting members of the Country Music Association. CMA Awards balloting is officiated by the international accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche LLP.
“The 45th Annual CMA Awards" will be hosted by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood for the fourth consecutive year and broadcasted live on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 7-10 PM/CT) on the ABC Television Network.
“The 45th Annual CMA Awards” is a production of the Country Music Association. Robert Deaton is the Executive Producer, Paul Miller is the Director, and David Wild is the writer. The special will be shot in high definition and broadcast in 720 Progressive (720P), ABC’s selected HDTV format, with 5.1 channel surround sound. Premiere Radio Networks is the official radio packager of the CMA Awards. Chevrolet is a Proud Partner of the CMA Awards and Official Ride of Country Music. CMA is a Proud Supporter of DRIVE4COPD.

VINCE GILL, BRAD PAISLEY, AND KEITH URBAN PAY TRIBUTE TO GLEN CAMPBELL

NASHVILLE – Reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year Brad Paisley and former CMA Entertainers of the Year Vince Gill and Keith Urban will pay tribute to Country Music Hall of Fame member and former CMA Entertainer of the Year Glen Campbell during “The 45th Annual CMA Awards.” The three guitar virtuosos’ performance saluting the legendary singer/musician will be a highlight of “Country Music’s Biggest Night(tm).”

“The 45th Annual CMA Awards,” hosted by Paisley and Carrie Underwood, airs live from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Wednesday, Nov. 9 (8:00-11:00 PM/ET) on the ABC Television Network. Previously announced performers include Jason Aldean, The Band Perry, Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Sara Evans, Faith Hill, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride, Scotty McCreery, Sugarland, Taylor Swift, Thompson Square, Keith Urban, Chris Young, and Zac Brown Band, plus Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter singing their hit collaboration “You and Tequila;” Rascal Flatts and Natasha Bedingfield singing their current hit duet “Easy;” Lionel Richie performing a medley of hits with Little Big Town, Rascal Flatts, and Darius Rucker; and co-hosts Paisley and Underwood in their first live televised-performance of their No. 1 song “Remind Me.”

Campbell was named both CMA Entertainer and Male Vocalist of the Year in 1968, and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005. The legendary performer has sold more than 45 million albums and recorded such classic hits as “Wichita Lineman,” “Gentle On My Mind,” “Galveston,” “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” “Southern Nights,” and “Rhinestone Cowboy.” As a musician, Campbell was part of the much-heralded Wrecking Crew that performed on a variety of artists’ albums. His guitar prowess is featured on the Beach Boys’ seminal album Pet Sounds and on Frank Sinatra’s megahit “Strangers in the Night,” among others. He acted alongside John Wayne in the movie “True Grit,” and hosted “The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour” on television from 1968-1972. Earlier this year, Campbell announced he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. He is in the midst of his successful Goodbye Tour after releasing his final album, the critically-acclaimed Ghost on the Canvas.

Gill is No. 3 on the list for the most career wins in CMA Award history, having won 18 CMA Awards thus far, including two Entertainer Awards (1993, 1994), five consecutive Male Vocalist Awards (1991-1995, tying him with George Strait for the most wins in that category), two Album Awards (1993 for I Still Believe in You and 1994 for Common Thread: The Songs of the Eagles), and a record-holding four Song of the Year Awards (1991 for “When I Call Your Name,” 1992 for “Look at Us,” 1993 for “I Still Believe In You,” and 1996 for “Go Rest High On That Mountain”). Gill served as host of the CMA Awards for 12 consecutive years (1992-2003), a record for hosts of any nationally televised Awards show. He released his new album, Guitar Slinger, last week.

The reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year, Paisley received five nominations in 2011 for Entertainer; Male Vocalist; Album for This is Country Music; and Musical Event and Music Video of the Year for “Old Alabama,” featuring Alabama. Paisley has won 14 CMA Awards to date, including three consecutive Male Vocalist Awards (2007-2009) and Album of the Year (in 2006 for Time Well Wasted). This is his fourth consecutive year to co-host the CMA Awards with Underwood.

Urban received two nominations this year: Entertainer and Male Vocalist of the Year. He has won four CMA Awards to date: Entertainer in 2005 and three consecutive Male Vocalist of the Year Awards (2004-2006). Urban’s current album is Get Closer.
