Brantley Gilbert Lands At #2

Brantley Gilbert Lands At #2 On Country Album Charts After Weeklong Retail Tour
Brantley entertained over 4,000 fans in six major retail stores in just six days

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE (September 21) – Valory Music Company recording artist Brantley Gilbert’s HALFWAY TO HEAVEN DELUXE debuted at # 2 on the Billboard Country Albums Chart and came in at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 All-Genre Chart for the week ending September 19. According to Soundscan, 50,822 copies of HALFWAY TO HEAVEN were purchased last week.

For the album’s launch Brantley partnered with mass retailers Best Buy and Walmart to create a weeklong in-store tour that allowed Brantley to engage with over 4,000 fans in six stores in four different cities. Hundreds of fans rolled out to the stores in Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, and Indianapolis to see Brantley perform acoustic sets and sign autographs.

“Last week I saw firsthand that Country Music really is ‘Country Wide.’  From my hometown in Athens, Georgia, all the way to Tulsa, Oklahoma, I met many fans and saw a lot of friends,” said Gilbert. “I am so excited about how well everyone has responded to this album. It means the world to me.”

While the in-store events provided Brantley with a unique platform to meet with fans and talk about his inspiration behind its songs, the events also proved very fruitful for the retailers involved.

There was a great time had by all at our store here in Indianapolis. We had over 700 fans come out to the store! I have done these events for Best Buy dating back to Sheryl Crow's first CD release,  yet I have never seen this big of a crowd for any of them! Not only did we have a huge turnout but we also sold over 300 units of product!” said Jim Davis, Assistant Manager of Best Buy store #230 in Indianapolis.

ABOUT BRANTLEY GILBERT: At the young age of 26, Gilbert already has a list of impressive industry accolades. The rising star’s second album – the independently-released HALFWAY TO HEAVEN -- reached #1 on the Billboard Heat Seekers Album Chart and #2 on the iTunes Country chart. The DELUXE version of HALFWAY TO HEAVEN released this September debuted at # 2 on the Country Albums Chart and Top 5 in the Top 200. Gilbert’s current single on The Valory Music Co., “Country Must Be Country Wide,” is a Top 15 hit and rising. In addition, the original HALFWAY TO HEAVEN, has spent 61 weeks on the Top 75 Country Albums Chart. Gilbert’s first album, A MODERN DAY PRODIGAL SON, also spent 35 weeks on the Top 75 Country Albums Chart. A celebrated songwriter, Gilbert penned “My Kinda Party,” the hit title track on superstar Jason Aldean’s latest album as well as his latest #1 single, “Dirt Road Anthem.”

ABOUT THE VALORY MUSIC CO.: The second of three labels established under the Big Machine Label Group umbrella, The Valory Music Co. opened in November 2007. The label celebrated its first #1 album with Jewel’s Perfectly Clear only 7 months after launching and then celebrated its first #1 single just 3 months later when Jimmy Wayne’s “Do You Believe Me Now” spent 3 weeks atop the Country singles charts. In November 2008 the label signed multimedia superstar Reba McEntire who saw her first Valory Music Co. album release, KEEP ON LOVING YOU, debut at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and spend two consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Country Albums Chart. Since Reba has enjoyed the two biggest chart hits of her illustrious 30+ year career when “Consider Me Gone” spent a historic 4 weeks at #1 and “Turn on the Radio” followed, allowing Reba to both begin and end 2010 at #1. Southern stylist Justin Moore’s poignant anthem “Small Town USA” reached #1 in October of 2009 and he has quickly become a Country Radio airplay staple as well as a touring force to be reckoned with. His new record, OUTLAWS LIKE ME, features the #1 smash hit “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away.” New to the label is Southern Country-Rock sensation Brantley Gilbert who has already topped the Country Singles Charts by writing “My Kinda Party” and “Dirt Road Anthem” for Jason Aldean. Brantley’s new album, his first on The Valory Music Co., is out now and includes his Top 15 hit, “Country Must Be Country Wide”. The Valory Music Co. possesses an exclusive, in-house promotion and branding team while utilizing the existing Big Machine Records backroom service and is distributed by UMGD.

“Right from the start Taylor’s voice was as enchanting and lovely as on her album. Taylor Swift live is even more impressive than on her albums -- her wonderful personality, sweet voice, and most of all her amazing songs gave Forest the time of its life.” -- CJP, Belgium
“Taylor Swift charms Korea in style, radiant...with pitch-perfect and sincere vocals. The dedication of the fans present was boundless, the cheers of the crowd were sometimes louder than the music itself.” --Korea Focus Times
“[‘Speak Now’] went off, as did every number, with clockwork professionalism and thousands of voices singing along and screaming between the lines. Ms. Swift, 21, is their superstar....her songs are taut, tuneful narratives.” -- The New York Times

The Roys Campfire Cafe TV show
The Roys join Campfire Cafe co-hosts in the kitchen.
From L-R: Larry Wiseheart, Elaine Roy, Pamela Alford and Lee Roy.
Nashville, TN (September 21, 2011) -With their infectious signature sound and virtuoso bluegrass pickin,' THE ROYS' performance of the new Campfire Café theme song-- and September 26 appearance on the season opener of the popular RFD-TV series --  offers proof positive that the celebration of  'down home cookin' knows no geographical boundaries.

Though born in Massachusetts, The Roys have more than a few good traditional southern-style recipes invested in the new weekly 13-episode series. In addition to providing the spirited new opening theme, Elaine and Lee will join Pamela Alford and co-host Larry Wiseheart in their world of  "gourmet campfire cuisine" for three Fall guest appearances - on September 26 at 4:30 P.M. Central, with return visits to the campfire on October 3 and November 21.  For complete air dates/times nationally resource: .

Co-producer Pamela Alford was thrilled to learn The Roys were fans of the show which originated on the network in 2003 and is now back in production by popular demand. "The first surprise was that The Roys were actually fans of Campfire Café and the second was that Lee Roy and co-writer Matt Rogers wanted to write our theme song for the new season," notes Alford. "Our RFD audience has a deep appreciation of traditional life skills, good country music and great food. Lee and Elaine have captured the essence of what we try to deliver in our episodes and our recipes."

This weekend Lee and Elaine change the focus from campfire cooking to tailgating. They will perform the National Anthem at the kick-off of the Tennessee Titans/Denver Broncos game in Nashville on Sunday, September 25.

Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life Makes Theatrical debut at Cinema Village

Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life Makes Theatrical debut at Cinema Village

NEW YORK, New York — Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life, starring Academy Award Winner Mira Sorvino, Joey Pantoliano and Michael Urie, will make its theatrical premier at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29 at Cinema Village (22 E. 12th Street, New York).

Based on the award-winning book by Wendy Mass, Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life is a coming of age adventure that warmly depicts parental love and wisdom, of a boy growing into his own understanding and acceptance of life.
Meanwhile, The Not So Meaningful Songs in the Life of Jeremy Fink, featuring songs from the soundtrack of the film, will be released by Loudhouse Records on October 25.  Advance copies are available.
Featuring Booka and The Flaming Geckos, the songs on the album reflect band leader Booka Michel’s eclectic tastes, which might explain why his soundtrack to the forthcoming independent film, Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life is a unique blend of styles that range from Piedmont Blues, Civil War-era, Bluegrass, Folk and even a style he terms “Acid Western.”
“We were given a very tight deadline for finishing the music for this film,” says Michel, who has worked with the likes of Butch Hancock, Doug Sahm, Flaco Jimenez, Hoyt Axton, Pete Seeger, Odetta, Don Walser, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Townes Van Zandt. “As the film’s music producer, that allowed me to take risks that I would not have normally taken as we didn’t even have picture lock or a final edit. Consequentially, some of these songs are in the film while others are not.”

But when Michel and his co-producer Sam Seifert began listening to the tracks they recorded for the film, they realized they had created a cohesive, natural sounding record and felt it would stand on its own, even apart from the film.

The Flaming Geckos - which includes Cindy Cashdollar (Bob Dylan, Van Morrison), Dennis Ludiker (Asleep At The Wheel), Kenny Franklin and Glenn Fukanaga (Joe Ely, Lloyd Maines) - worked with Michel for the soundtrack for his last film project (which he produced with wife and partner Edythe Michel), Baghdad, Texas, a multi-award winning independent film that has screened and won honors at such prestigious film festivals as the Strasbourg International Film Festival, Cannes International Film Festival, the Moondance International Film Festival, Toronto Reel World Festival, and  the Guild Theater in Los Angeles where it was presented by the Directors Guild of America.

Build in 1963 in the shell of a turn of the century fire station, Cinema Village is the oldest continuously operated cinema in Greenwich Village and one of the oldest continuously operated art cinemas in the city.

Make Plans for Appearances During AMA Conference

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Among the artists making plans to perform in Nashville during the annual Americana Music Association Conference are Iconic American Songwriter Michael Martin Murphey and the critically acclaimed Wronglers with Texas Legend Jimmie Dale Gilmore.
Both groups will appear on Wednesday, October 12.
• Murphey and his Rio Grande Band (featuring guitar ace Pat Flynn) will perform a free show at 6:00 p.m. at The Listening Room (209 10th Ave. S, #200). Known for his hits "Wildfire," "Carolina In The Pines," "Cosmic Cowboy", "Geronimo's Cadillac" and "Alleys of Austin", Murphey played a pivotal role in the early days of Austin's outlaw movement.
"When he lived in Austin in the mid- ‘70s , he was one of the formative voices and most sophisticated songwriters of the progressive-country boom that defined the city’s music in that era," wrote John T. Davis in the Austin American Statesman.  "Murphey originals such as 'Geronimo’s Cadillac,' 'Alleys of Austin' and 'Backslider’s Wine' remain among the most graceful and accomplished tunes to come out of Austin’s turbulent country-rock scene."
A true genre-busting artist, Murphey, Grammy nominated for his 2009 Buckaroo Blue Grass, is celebrating the release of his latest album, Tall Grass & Cool Water. Once called the "Best songwriter in the nation" by Rolling Stone magazine, Murphey and his Rio Grande Band continues to push the boundaries of acoustic music.
• The Wronglers with Jimmie Dale Gilmore will perform an AMA Showcase at 9:00 p.m. at The Station Inn (402 12th Ave. South). The group's new album, Heirloom Music, has earned praise from critics and fans alike.
"Four Stars! Their lineup isn’t traditionally bluegrass and most aren’t professional musicians, but that adds a feel of down-home authenticity (particularly when septuagenarian Warren Hellman sings lead on the oldest song, ‘Big Rock Candy Mountain’)," wrote Sylvie Simmons for Mojo. "The record sounds great, as does Gilmore’s voice, its inbuilt high-lonesome stoic sob framed by fiddles and female backing vocals on the mournful ‘In The Pines’ and ‘I Wonder Where You Are Tonight’.”
In addition to a long and distinguished career that includes three Grammy nominations, Gilmore is a member of the Texas supergroup, The Flatlanders with Joe Ely and Butch Hancock.  The Wronglers include San Francisco banjoist / philanthropist Warren Hellman, who puts on the wildly popular (and free) Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival each fall at Golden Gate State Park, this year featuring artists like Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle and Robert Plant.

Interview with Frank Fara – Songs of the Untamed West

Interview with Frank Fara – Songs of the Untamed West

Ch.L.: How was the last year for you? What were the highlights?

Frank Fara: I was very honored that the Billy the Kid Museum in Fort Sumner, New Mexico chose to adopt my song “ Charming Billy ~ Billy the Kid “ as their official song for their museum and web site. Everyone who makes the pilgrimage to the Billy the Kid Museum or their popular website hears my recording.

Ch.L.: What's your latest CD and how's it doing?

Frank Fara: My latest album is "Songs of the Untamed West". Radio DJ’s & fans have seemed to enjoy my new and original approach to famous names and places of the Old West. All the songs are based on true events and history with Patty Parker’s top Nashville production of music and arrangements to give them the flavor and excitement of the legends and icons they represent. See stories and photos of all the songs on

Ch.L.: How did you choose the title for the CD, is there a story behind it?

Frank Fara: I wanted fans to know immediately that the album was about the West when it was young and wild. By using the word “Untamed” that is not used that often, it gave me a good descriptive album title “ Songs of the Untamed West “.

Ch.L.: Do you write the songs yourself and if not, how do you go about finding the songs for the your CD?

Frank Fara: I am the songwriter of all the songs on this album and they were written over many years. It took a long time because of the research needed to make sure that I had all the facts and stories right.

Ch.L.: Please tell us about the songs on your album.

Frank Fara: Most of the songs take place in the turbulent decades following the civil war when gun toting soldiers returned home to try and make a living on the new frontier. Some of them put on a lawman’s star like The Earp Brothers in Tombstone while others lived outside the law as Outlaws like the Dalton Brothers. I also wrote of military icons General Custer and Mexican folk hero Pancho Villa. The album also has The Saga of Diamondfield Jack, a song about the cattle & sheep wars, another about A Black Cowboy ~ Isom Dart. Also a light hearted tune on Tips for Easterners taking a Stagecoach West. Wagon Trains were also an important part of the West and so included is the heroic tale of The Donner Party Wagon Train. One of my favorites is a song about the boy outlaw from New Mexico ~ Charming Billy ~ Billy the Kid. As the lyric says “ He Turned 21 at the wrong end of a gun “ The album concludes with a special song Sedona Serenade, the place of so many famous western movies.

Ch.L.: What's the difference between your last CD and the current one?

Frank Fara: In the past I only released CD Singles of my songs of the West. This is the very first time all my true songs of legendary heroes, outlaws and lawmen have been all together in this special Songs of the Untamed West album. I should mention, however, for Rock & Roll fans of the early days of the 1950’s & 60’s music, I had an album titled Only in My Dreams which is currently available on my oldies website

Ch.L.: Your current single is being played by radio. What do you thing is special about this song that makes people what to hear it?

Frank Fara: Isom Dart ~ A Black Cowboy is one of those story’s you just don’t hear about. I believe listeners like to hear something new and especially one that has been left out of so many history books. In truth, Black cowboys were numerous on the western plains and helped win and settle the West.
Ch.L.: What will your next single be?

Frank Fara: My next single will be “Custer’s Last Command“. I look forward to sharing the dynamic and controversial personality of General George Armstrong Custer and the events of his march with the Seventh Cavalry leading up to the Little Big Horn. The song has the feel of a big screen John Ford movie.

Ch.L.: What kind of songs do you like to record the most?

Frank Fara: Songs about people who’s history has survived their deeds as well as songs of people who led amazing lives but who’s deeds never made the newspapers. In other words ~ The famous and the not so famous.

Ch.L.: What's your favorite song among all the songs you've recorded and what's the story behind it?

Frank Fara: Truthfully I am unable to choose between them as it always seems
that I like the one I am writing or listening to. Then when they are all on an album I cannot pick one over the other. Each has such a special place in the history of the Untamed West.
