Award-winning performer Royal Wade Kimes—known for writing hit songs for himself and other artists, including Garth Brooks and Trace Adkins—has done the unexpected: his hot new single was written by someone else 48 years ago!

The new single, showcasing Royal Wade’s signature cowboy country musical style, is a powerful, unforgettable version of Bobby Bare’s classic “500 Miles Away From Home,” written by Bare, Charlie Williams and Hedy West.

Early reviews of Royal Wade’s new take on the 1963 hit song have been remarkable raves. Noted Nashville music critic Stacy Harris declared, “If a listener had never heard Bobby Bare’s classic recording…one would swear Kimes’ was the definitive version.” 

The single will hit radio’s desk the first week in July, with the video being released shortly after the single. Staying true to the song’s message, Royal Wade—proclaimed the Best Living Western Solo Musician by nationally-acclaimed True West magazine in December 2010—traveled 500 miles while shooting the video for the single.

“Most videos are wrapped up in a day or so,” notes Royal Wade, “but I decided if we were going to shoot a video about a guy’s 500-mile struggle to get home, I wanted the filming to actually depict a 500-mile journey. And that’s what we did. It took us three weeks of filming in multiple locations in Tennessee and Arkansas to capture the entire journey.”

In an extraordinary twist of fate, the distance from Royal Wade’s Tennessee ranch to his father’s ranch in Chester, Arkansas, is exactly 500 miles. “Some would call that an omen,” chuckles Royal Wade. “Me, I call it destiny.”

The accomplished singer/songwriter candidly reveals he likes making history. “When the great Bobby Bare’s monster hit song was originally cut, video didn’t exist,” he explains. “So this will be the first-ever video covering this classic country song—and it’s one of the most extensive shoots for a three-minute song in country music history.”

In a tip of the hat to his own career, Royal Wade asked celebrated radio personality Bill Cody of Nashville’s WSM radio to appear in the “500 Miles Away from Home” video. Cody was the first to interview Royal Wade when the talented Arkansas native first roared onto the country music scene in 1997.

Vier Jahre nach ihrem preisgekrönten Album The Reminder, das u.a. die Single 1,2,3,4 hervorbrachte, meldet sich FEIST mit einem neuen Werk zurück. Am 30. September wird Metals in den Handel kommen. Ein erster kurzer Einblick in die Studioaufnahmen ist bereits online zu sehen und deutet an, dass FEIST im Herbst mit einem weiteren Highlight ihres musikalischen Schaffens aufwarten wird.

Seit ihrem Solodebüt Let It Die aus dem Jahre 2004 reißen die Lobeshymnen und Liebeserklärungen an Leslie Feist, der Welt bekannt als Feist, nicht mehr ab. Mit ihrem 2007er Album The Reminder, das hierzulande Platz 11 in den Media Control Charts und die Goldauszeichnung erreichte, und der dazugehörigen Single 1,2,3,4 sowie dem "schnittfreien" hinreißenden Videoclip, eroberte Feist schließlich das große Publikum. In den USA und Großbritannien schoss der Song direkt in die Top10 der Singlecharts. Das Album wurde für vier Grammy Awards nominiert. (Nashville, TN – 07/26/2011) Mississippi based country music recording artist KC Johns will be making her first Chicagoland appearances later this week that include stops at WGN TV, RCC Western Store and Six Flags Great America.

 On Thursday July 28, 2011, Johns will be performing her playful, summer song “Fishing In Daddy’s Pond” live on the WGN Midday news, the #1 midday news program in the country that broadcasts nationwide on WGN America.

Launches Video Contest As Part Of PTSD/Warrior
Treatment Awareness Initiative

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 26, 2011)—In April of this year, multi-platinum country music artist Mark Wills, in alliance with USA Cares (a non-profit national military assistance charity founded to assist post-9/11 military families in emotional health and recovery, and bearing the burdens of service with financial and advocacy support), officially introduced the Warrior Treatment Today “Crazy Being Home” campaign.

With the goal to elevate awareness nationwide surrounding the severity of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI), Wills launched the “Crazy Being Home” website (www.crazybeinghome.com) with the multi-objective to reach out to, encourage and support America’s post-9/11 veterans, assist in raising funds for the PTSD and TBI programs and to serve as a communicative outlet for those who suffer to share their mutual stories.

A number of personal accounts appear as postings on the CrazyBeingHome.com site reinforcing the evident need for a public discussion outlet. Adding a second tier to the Crazy Being Home forum, Wills has added a video contest component, extending invitations to visitors, friends, fans and filmmakers to bring their stories to life in video format to demonstrate their support of our returning soldiers and their families working through the issues of PTSD and TBI.

Wills is encouraging folks to create their own original, visual story (music video) using the campaign theme song “Crazy Being Home” in the background. Entrants will receive a free download of the single and the winning video production will be featured on CrazyBeingHome.com as well as Mark Wills’ website. Wills recorded the campaign theme song “Crazy Being Home” (written by Chris Lindsey, Brad Warren, Bret Warren and Robin Lindsey) as a tribute to our brothers and sisters of service. The music is amazing enough on its own, but along with that we’re also planning Celebrity Jams on Friday and Saturday mornings Sept. 30 and Oct. 1; a “Name that Blue Grass Boy” trivia competition for fans Saturday morning, Oct. 1 at 10:30 a.m.; and a slate of discussion groups and workshops on everything from sharing festival memories and photos, music licensing for events and pre-war banjos to a “Going on the Road without Letting Yourself Go” exercise session,  strings and instrument set-up with break-out groups for individual instruments, recording acoustic instruments, the crosspicking guitar style of George Shuffler, how to start an instrument lending library, a session on what songwriters and writers can learn from the music of The Beatles, and a thought-provoking discussion led by The Infamous Stringduster’s Chris Pandolfi and Emilee Warner of Crash-Media on “big tent bluegrass”—the concept of welcoming bands and fans across the bluegrass-influenced spectrum from old-time music to jam grass.   

On Friday, Sept. 30 at 3 p.m. former Blue Grass Boy Blake Williams, of The Expedition  Show will host a special event called “Tell Us Your Bill Monroe Story.”  Friends and colleagues of Monroe will be invited to get things rolling, and then we’ll open the mic to anyone in the room with a story or memory to share. We’ll be videotaping, with participant’s permission, for future use on Bluegrass  Nation and the International Bluegrass Music Museum archives.
Proceeds from Fan Fest ticket sales benefit the Bluegrass Trust Fund, established to help bluegrass professionals during times of emergency need, as well as support IBMA’s educational and marketing efforts during the rest of the year. All artists appearing at Fan Fest donate their time and talents for the cause.

Advance tickets are on sale now, with discounts on three-day passes for members and non-members. Single day tickets and student tickets (with an ID) will be available at the gate, and children under 16 are admitted free with an adult.

There are two new stars on the Music City Walk of Fame in Downtown Nashville. Bill Anderson and Keith Urban drew a huge crowd of onlookers recently to accept their place in Country Music history. For Urban, he showed his gratitude by locking lips with the pavement and then with his wife, actress Nicole Kidman.  Getting his star took decades of hard work. Urban first arrived in Nashville in 1989 and got turned down repeatedly before finally finding his niche on Music Row.  Urban thanked the town that has embraced him and helped him through the years. "So it will be 20 years next year since I moved here, and I've had the absolute lowest lows of my life and the complete highest of highest of highs, all have happened in Nashville," said Urban. Another familiar face who has clearly earned his star on the Walk of Fame is is country legend "Whispering Bill" Anderson. For 50 years he's performed, written and remained relevant in a constantly changing industry. "I am thrilled to be a part of it after all these years, the one thing is that about the music business is that it is constantly changing so to say that you know where it's going to go, nobody knows that. The public will tell us where they want to go and we will follow," said Anderson. There are now a total of 50 artists on the Music City Walk of Fame.

Dolly Parton’s new album Better Day now has a June 28 release date. Her much-anticipated album of all-new studio material will be released on her own Dolly Records distributed through Warner Music Nashville. To coincide with the album’s release, DOLLY will launch a world tour bringing her throughout America and then onto the U.K. and Europe in August and September, then Australia in November in support of the new album. Better Day is the follow-up to DOLLY’s critically acclaimed and successful 2008 Backwoods Barbie album. Featuring 12 original DOLLY compositions, Better Day marks the fourth release on the independent label. On the live front, the Better Day world tour launches on July 17 in Knoxville in her home state of Tennessee and will be highlighted by two shows (July 22 and 23) at the historic Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. After finishing in the U.S. on August 3, the tour moves overseas starting August 20 and will feature a pair of shows (September 7 and 8) at the O2 Arena in London, the venue where DOLLY recorded and filmed Live From London (Dolly Records), her widely praised 2009 two-disc DVD/CD set that included songs from Backwoods Barbie alongside her many classic hits. Her Irish show will take place at the O2 Dublin, on Sept. 14.

Despite all the counter attractions in town, Emmylou Harris drew a large crowd to the beautifully appointed Grand Canal Theatre for her concert on Saturday night last. She had a completely new lineup in her Red Dirt Band, and was obviously enjoying her herself on stage as entertained her devoted fans for over 2 hours. She included a lot of her current material as well as some old favourites and as far as her fans were concerned she could do no wrong and received a well deserved standing ovation at the end of the show.

Sänger Tom Astor (68) über Country, Karriere und Klischees

Ismaning, 26.7.2011 – Country-Glamour in Nashville und Bodenständigkeit im Sauerland, zwei vermeintlich gegensätzliche Eigenschaften, die Country-Sänger Tom Astor liebt und lebt. In der Talksendung „Alles Liebe V.I.P.“ auf GoldStar TV – Alles Schlager (nur auf Sky) erzählt der preisgekrönte Sänger, dessen „Best of“-Album kürzlich erschien, am 7.8. um 22:00 Uhr von seinen Anfängen im Musikbusiness und räumt mit Country-Klischees auf.

Mit 20 Jahren stand Tom Astor mit Schlagertiteln erstmals auf der Bühne. Ende der 1970er Jahre wandte er sich der Countrymusik zu und landete 1984 mit dem Titel „Hallo, guten Morgen Deutschland“ seinen ersten Hit. Seitdem ist der in einem „Energiehaus“ im Sauerland lebende Sänger eine feste Größe in Deutschlands Country-Szene. Auch in der Country-Hochburg Nashville, wo er Duette mit Legenden wie Johnny Cash, Kenny Rogers oder den Bellamy Brothers aufnahm, ist er kein Unbekannter.

Bereits als Kind hatte Tom Astor alias Wilhelm Bräutigam das Country-Fieber gepackt, verrät er im Interview auf GoldStar TV: „Ich war 13 oder 14 Jahre alt und war musikbesessen. Durch einen Zufall [...] habe ich eine Platte gesehen, die Hillbilly-Musik hieß. [...] Ich habe mir das in Ruhe angehört und fand das sehr originell.“ Daraufhin beschloss er, selbst Musik zu machen. Vielleicht auch, weil sein Klavierlehrer ihn durch Nickerchen in der klassischen Klavierstunde demotivierte („Er war schon über 80 und schlief immer ein, wenn ich Klavier gespielt habe.“), wurde die Gitarre sein musikalischer Begleiter.

Sein ständiger Begleiter in modischer Hinsicht wurde später der Cowboyhut, den er seit 40 Jahren trägt. Auch wenn er durch sein Äußeres und durch die Liebe zu Pferden, die er mit seiner Familie teilt, ein Cowboyimage pflegt, wehrt sich Tom Astor gegen das Cowboyklischee der Country-Musik: „Wenn man in Deutschland an Countrymusik denkt, denkt man immer an Lagerfeuer, Cowboys und weiße Glimmstängel. Das ist das Problem. [...] In Amerika ist Country wie moderne Popmusik.“

Seinen Cowboyhut möchte der 68-Jährige noch lange nicht an den Nagel hängen, obwohl sein erster „Shady Brady“-Hut inzwischen im „Haus der Geschichte“ in Bonn ausgestellt ist: „Wenn ich jetzt aufhöre, würde mir das sehr schwerfallen. [...] Solange ich fit bin, wird man mich noch ertragen müssen.“, lacht Tom Astor.

 MTV co-founder to kick off Country Radio Seminar with keynote address Wednesday, Feb. 22

(Nashville, Tenn. – July 25, 2011)  Country Radio Seminar has announced Clear Channel’s Chairman of Media and Entertainment Platforms and MTV co-founder Bob Pittman as the CRS 2012 keynote speaker.

Pittman was appointed Chairman of Clear Channel Media and Entertainment Platforms in Nov. 2010, where he, alongside Clear Channel Radio’s CEO John Hogan and team, lead the development of a comprehensive, integrated digital strategy for Clear Channel in the radio business.  A 35-year entertainment industry veteran and founding member of New York-based private investment firm Pilot Group, LLC, he will deliver the keynote address to officially kick off Country Radio Seminar at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22.  CRS will be held Feb. 22-24, 2012, at the Nashville Convention Center in downtown Nashville, Tenn.

Pittman’s extensive background in radio and television includes CEO positions at AOL Networks, Quantum Media, Time Warner Enterprises and MTV Networks, where he led the team that created MTV.  He has also served as COO of America Online, Inc. and AOL Time Warner.  Among other recognition, Pittman was named one of Advertising Age’s “10 Marketers Who Changed American Culture” and “50 Pioneers and Visionaries of TV” and one of Life magazine’s “Five Original Thinkers of the ’80s” and “50 Most Influential Boomers.”

“Bob Pittman’s resume speaks for itself,” says CRS President Mike Culotta.  “His experience in radio, television and marketing will undoubtedly provide our CRS attendees with unique insight into the issues the Country radio industry is facing today.  We are once again anticipating another informative keynote address at Country Radio Seminar, and we encourage everyone to do themselves a favor and attend.”

Pittman began his career programming radio stations in Pittsburgh, Chicago and eventually WNBC in New York City.  In 1999, he was inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame, and in 2002 he received the International Radio and Television Society’s Gold Medal.  He has also served as CEO of Six Flags Theme Parks and Century 21 Real Estate.

Past Country Radio Seminar keynote speakers have included Scripps Networks’ CEO Ken Lowe, money management expert Dave Ramsey, marketing guru Seth Godin, retired U.S. General Tommy Franks and recording artist Bon Jovi.

Previously Kathy was Director of Marketing & Sales for Starwood Amphitheatre, Nashville's premier outdoor concert venue.  There she created the marketing plans for each annual concert season, selling all sponsor categories, VIP seating & suites, and directing the publicity, advertising and promotional programs for the popular summer venue.

Self-titled Album Set To Be Released In Late 2011

Chart-topping hits written by Dean such as “Pour Me,” and the Grammy nominated “Just What I Do,” established him, not only as Trick Pony’s “Wildman” with headlights in his chrome bass, but as a brand new singer/songwriting force and studio musician in country music. The trio won the American Music Awards’ “Top New Artist” and the Country Music Association’s “Artist of the Year” award and released three studio albums producing four top twenty singles on Billboard Hot Country. Their second CD, On A Mission, which Ira co-wrote seven cuts, brought in an additional five Academy of Country Music nominations including, “Album of the Year” and “Vocal Group of the Year.”

In 2008, Dean departed Trick Pony, and has since been busy writing songs for other artists including Joe Nichols, Chris Young, ex-band mate Heidi Newfield, Jake Owen, Gary Allan, and Montgomery Gentry, including their big hit “One In Every Crowd.”  He also has the writing credits on the title track for Trace Adkins’ album due out August 2, Proud To Be Here.

Now Dean is focusing on his solo career and is thrilled to be joining the Average Joe’s family, “I’m very excited to be working with Tom Baldrica and Average Joe’s and to be label mates with my good friends Colt Fort and Montgomery Gentry.” Dean’s self-titled solo debut CD is set to be released by Average Joe’s Entertainment in late 2011.  Ira Dean hints that the music on his solo debut is “a mixture of alcohol and testosterone-driven songs. My buddy Bobby Pinson has tagged it as ‘testostahol’.”  Recently, radio picked up on the album cut “Beer or Gasoline” which was written by Dean and previously recorded by Chris Young.
