RECKLESS KELLY--known for straddling rock and country with strong songs and performances--are returning September 13 with their ninth album GOOD LUCK & TRUE LOVE on their own No Big Deal Records label.  GOOD LUCK & TRUE LOVE marks the Austin-based band’s first studio album of all-new material since 2008’s BULLETPROOF and is the follow-up to their 2010 release SOMEWHERE IN TIME, a tribute to one of their songwriter heroes, Pinto Bennett.  Both of those albums hit the top 5 on the Billboard “Heatseekers” chart and top 20 on the Americana charts and SOMEWHERE IN TIME was voted the #10 best album of the year by the Americana Music Association in 2010.
After having released music via Sugar Hill and Yep Roc Records, RECKLESS KELLY--Willy Braun, lead vocals/rhythm guitar/Wurlitzer piano; Cody Braun, fiddle/mandolin/harmonica/bouzouki/harmony vocals; David Abeyta, lead guitar & piano; Jay Nazz, drums & percussion; and Chris Schelske, bass guitar--are now releasing the self-produced GOOD LUCK & TRUE LOVE on their own, and are now self-managed. “In 15 years as RECKLESS KELLY we've had to learn things the hard way and figure out what works for us and what doesn't,” says the band.  “Trial and error.  We've always recorded to 2-inch analogue tape and we've always earned our fans one at a time. (Grass roots baby!) Over the years we've dabbled in conventional methods of promotion, touring and, of course, recording. Starting a record company and releasing our own records is something we have strived for our entire carrier. Now we feel we are finally in the perfect position with our business and band and are doing just that.”
GOOD LUCK & TRUE LOVE is quintessential RECKLESS KELLY with a blend of the gritty and the sublime.  There are road songs ("Weatherbeaten Soul," "Hit The Ground Running"), tunes about music ("New Moon Over Nashville," "I Stayed Up All Night Again") and others about hard times (“Save Me From Myself”) and good old-fashioned heartbreak (“Give It A Try,” "Guarded Heart," "She Likes Money, He Likes Love" and "I Never Liked St. Valentine").  “Taking our old school approach a little bit further on this record, we made a rule that if someone in the band can't play it, it's not going on the record,” explains the band.  “We are proud to say that with the exception of an outstanding harmony vocal by our good friend Dani Flowers, we played every instrument on this record and tracked almost everything live.”
RECKLESS KELLY formed in Bend, OR in 1996 but quickly established themselves as a strong live act in and around Austin, TX and have been praised by Country Weekly for “injecting its hooky songs with rock ’n’ roll propulsion without sacrificing melody or meaning” (2009 review of Bulletproof).  Michael Corcoran of the Austin American Statesman called them “a rock band that writes country songs” and said "Bulletproof is an aggressive album with an anti-war song that outprotests James McMurtry. Even in the most stagnant of subgenres (alt-country), the Kellies strive to remain fresh…(6/11/08)”
Bulletproof earned the group a #1 Americana and #1 Texas Charts song spot with “Ragged As The Road.”  That album also earned them an Americana Music Association nomination for “Duo or Group of the Year (2009).”

Nashville, TN…(July 14, 2011)…Grammy nominated Chris Young’s new album NEON hit stores this week and the album is already garnering rave reviews.

Here’s what some of the nation’s toughest critics are saying about NEON:

USA Today:
"An ardent, soulful baritone has helped him become one of country's most reliable hitmakers. His vocal delivery displays his affection for the music's traditions…in songs that value family wisdom, a good bar and the right woman.” ★★★
Associated Press:
“…An expressive baritone voice; a tall, handsome stature; and a friendly, approachable personality.  What makes "Neon" his best album yet are the songs about relationships, from the sweet come-on of "Lost" to the sage "Old Love Feels New." Throughout, Young comes across as a guy whose heart is as strong as his libido.  The album's initial hit "Tomorrow" may end up as one his career-defining cuts.”
Country Weekly:
“From the opening note of the first single, “Tomorrow,” Chris’ rich baritone establishes him as an instantly recognizable singer. “Neon,” with its vivid imagery and neo-traditional honky-tonk feel, is George Strait-worthy material.”★★★★

American Songwriter:
“…it’s apparent that Young … is acutely aware that now is the perfect time to up the musical ante, and it appears he’s done just that. This time out, Young co-wrote seven of the album’s ten tracks with some of the best tunesmiths Nashville currently has to offer, making this his best and most ambitious album yet.”  ★★★½

The jam-packed album launch week started early Tuesday morning with a performance on ABC-TV’s Good Morning America. Fans can also get an intimate behind-the-scenes look into his busy world by visiting Young’s “A Day In The Life” segment on AOL’s The Boot. YAHOO! also features stellar live performances as part of the RAM Country series.

While in the northeast, Young made appearances on Fox News and Better TV. He also entertained fans with a full band set from The Headliner in Neptune, NJ.

Tonight, Young heads south to join Jason Aldean’s sold-out My Kinda Party tour with stops in Orange Beach, AL (7/14), Tampa, FL (7/15), and West Palm Beach (7/16) with additional dates booked throughout the rest of the year. Fans can also tune in to ABC-TV’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! on July 27 to catch the singer perform songs from the recently released NEON.

NEON is produced by James Stroud and features 10 songs, including 7 that are co-penned by Young.  A deluxe version of the album is available at iTunes and features two bonus tracks plus a photo gallery.

ABOUT CHRIS YOUNG: Recently nominated for his first GRAMMY® Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance with his hit, “Gettin’ You Home,” Young is currently out on the road with Jason Aldean on his sold out My Kinda Party Tour.  With his rich, warm baritone and penchant for writing relatable, slice-of-life songs, Young has emerged as a fan-favorite with three consecutive #1s at radio. "Tomorrow," the GOLD single from the brand new album NEON, is currently Top 5 and screaming up the country charts.  For tour dates and all the latest information on Chris Young, visit and follow him on Twitter @ChrisYoungMusic.

Melanie C: Single: Think About It (Radio Edit)

Melanie C

Single: Think About It (Radio Edit)

September erscheint.

Hard-Fi: Single: Fire In The House

Single: Fire In The House

„Fire in the House“ erscheint am 19. August, zeitgleich mit „Killer Sounds“ dem  Dancerock Album-Platte dieses Sommers.
Chris Rea: Single: The Chance of Love

Chris Rea

Single: The Chance of Love

Wolf Gang: Album: Suego Faults

Wolf Gang

Album: Suego Faults

Sebastian: Album: Total

Album: Total

OST/Jonny Greenwood (Composer): Album: Norwegian Wood

OST/Jonny Greenwood (Composer)

Steel Guitar News

Hello fellow players,

Its really funny how different areas of the United States perceive famous people differently. When I was starting my career I worked for many of the famous stars in the business and never looked at them as being any different from anybody Id meet on the street and I sure didnt treat them any differently.

Well, this isnt true necessarily because I didnt treat any of them very good I feel. Id argue with Billy Walker, George Jones, Claude Gray and everybody I worked for like they were my brother, not like they were some kind of big star to be respected.

I moved to Washington D.C. to work a club named The Ozarks at 10th and K Street. It was right next to a storefront that Nixon had rented for office space for his election committee which was in the mid sixties of course. We have many so-called famous people in the club every night. People like Senator Harry Byrd wanting to sit in on fiddle and people that ran the country all day long and then sat in on the stage and had to listen to me tell them when to play, how loud to play and when to get off the stage.

Amazing. They were powerful folks that liked to have fun just like the rest of us. My time in north Los Angeles playing the clubs was really interesting. You never knew who would come in to hear you. There werent but two steel players in the area so once they had shown up, it was mostly famous lead guitar players after that.

These guys were famous, but not necessarily great guitar players. This was where I learned that greatness and fame really didnt go together very often. What I did learn was what soul and what feel was. Guys like Duane Allman, Jeff Beck, Ry Cooder, Jerry Garcia, Jimmy Page and Chuck Berry would sit in and absolutely rock the place.

They had everybody jumping up and down screaming, but in observing them I realized that they did it mostly with feel and volume. Like Chet Atkins said one time, I dont mind a guitar player stirring up the crowd and making them jump around and scream with a high volume distorted solo, but thats not me. Im not gonna do it that way. Id rather have them look at me, drop their head and just exclaim, wow, I wish I could do that.

Chet was a true master, but there was a dividing line between Chets playing and many of the other great players like Larry Carlton, Eric Clapton and how about George Harrison, a really famous guitar player because of his fame, but not necessarily a killer in any style but his own.

I saw a clip one time of Jerry McDonald from Europe, a very nice laid back player that just kept amazing me from bar to bar. And then of course, there was Wes Montgomery. Wes not being a hard core rocker, but he had the talent to take what he knew and play it to its finest degree. The background music that he created to go with his style was about as wonderful as you could ever ask for.

Remember Sunshine Superman by Donavan? How about Soul Man by Sam and Dave and the licks that Steve Cropper played on guitar? These guys knew just exactly how to play the least amount of notes possible with so much soul and taste that they could rip the heart out of other musicians that can seemingly play circles around them.

If youre not familiar with Steve Cropper, he was one of the two guitar players in the Blues Brothers movie and was on all the sound tracks. You might remember his work on Sittin On The Dock Of The Bay, a song he played guitar on and co-wrote with Otis Redding.

Listen to some of the solos on The Eagles recordings. How about the turn around on New Kid In Town? There sure is a wonderful world of music out there. Its not all watch how fast I can play or listen to all this distortion I can use, but taste can affect the greatest of players as much as it does the simplest of players.

These are the things that make me love great steel guitar and great lead guitar. This is why I took it as such a wonderful off handed compliment to be hired by Chet Atkins on the sessions that I was lucky enough to work with him.

Dont get me wrong, there are some extremely incredible players supposedly who I really didnt like working with at all and Ive had to suffer the indignity many years later of people coming up to me and saying, Isnt old so and so an incredible guitar player?

In my heart I knew that I not only didnt want to ever play with this guy again, but I didnt even want to see him in a restaurant years later. It goes back to something that I touch on in about everyone of my newsletters. Its not how famous you are, but how well you can really play your guitar.

There are many great players that may not be so great, but I have found that everyone of them have some kind of magic that can capture another soul with. I remember in 1970 playing an award show in Nashville and going to the restroom to get ready for the show to start and a long haired guy came in the room and he burst into a great big smile and put his hand out and he said, I heard you playing with The Compton Brothers onstage a minute ago. Youre astounding.

He said, If I could play like you, Id be the happiest guy in the world.

I replied, If you played like me, youd be broke.

He laughed and shook my hand (which had been washed by then). He said, Whats your name?

I told him. He said, Oh yes. I read about you in Guitar Player magazine.

I said, Whats your name?

He said, Im Jerry Garcia. I play lead guitar with The Grateful Dead

I said, Good. Why dont you play steel guitar with that group?

He replied that he owned one and did play it once in awhile, but he said hearing the players in Nashville scared him to death.

Several years after this I did a stint in North Hollywood, California with Johnny Rivers in a band his record company had put together with Nashville musicians, except for Herb Pederson from L.A. on rhythm and banjo and of course Albert Lee on lead guitar.

I complained vehemently to Johnny for having to play so loud. Johnny replied, Turn it up. Well make them listen to us.

My ears are still ringing from playing that loud and that was forty years ago. I played a double neck MSA through two Fender Twins. As you can tell, tone was not of great importance. Actually from the rock n roll we were playing, this may have been the right combination. I am glad we had a stage crew or my back would be even worse than it is today.

I think the point that Im trying to make here is in the professional world of guitars, steel and lead, there are a tremendous amount of parallels between the two. Rock n roll, country, it doesnt matter if youre Eddie Van Halen, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Frank Zappa or Andre Segovia. You need to throw your heart into it and have a good time. Enjoy it yourself and make everybody around you do the same.

Remember that we have many tracks to choose from with Nashvilles finest studio players that would go very well with the Tascam Guitar Trainer that so many of you have bought so you can work on developing your own soul and feel with steel guitar.

Nashville, TN (July 14, 2011) - On October 28th, The Schermerhorn Symphony Center will host the 17th Annual Inspirational Country Music Awards, and taking the stage will be some of today's most beloved Inspirational Country artists including Lee Greenwood, Joey & Rory, and returning ‘ICM Faith, Family & Country Award' winners Ricky Skaggs and The Roys.

With four Inspirational Country Music Awards including the 2010 ICM/Inspirational Bluegrass Artist of the Year, 2008 and 2009 Mainstream Country Artist of the Year and 2008 Musician of the Year, Skaggs is no stranger to the event.  In his upcoming July 19th release, Country Hits Bluegrass Style, Skaggs pays homage to both his country and bluegrass roots by featuring 14 classic country songs recorded in bluegrass style, sure to garner further national attention. In addition to his ICM Faith, Family & Country Awards, Skaggs has won a total of 8 ACM Awards, 8 CMA Awards, and 14 Grammy Awards.

A special segment during the ceremony will feature songsmith Lee Greenwood, writer of one of the most recognizable songs in America history, to honor the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001 in remembrance of those affected by the tragedy. Throughout Greenwood's illustrious career he has recorded over 20 albums, sold millions and charted more than 35 singles. Greenwood's latest body of work, I Want You In My World, is an EP of seven songs including two self-written tracks, set to release on July 25th.

Returning to the show will be reining two-time Inspirational Country Vocal Duo of the Year, The Roys. Their most recent album Lonesome Whistle has taken the bluegrass world by storm, with the album debuting at #7 on the Billboard Bluegrass Charts, and the single, "Coal Minin' Man", reaching #1 on the European Hotdisc Chart. "Coal Minin' Man” currently resides in the Top 10 in both the Bluegrass Unlimited and Bluegrass Music Profiles charts, and holds the #1 position on the Power Source Bluegrass Chart.

Another great addition to the night's line-up includes husband and wife duo, Joey & Rory, who won the heart of America on the 2008 season of CMT's Can You Duet.  Joey and Rory received the 2010 ACM Top New Vocal Duo Award and currently have a new album aptly titled Album Number Two, which continues to showcase their down-to-earth values. Valerie Smith - Blame It On The Bluegrass (CD Review)

Valerie Smith - Blame It On The Bluegrass (CD Review)

1. Blame It On The Bluegrass 2. Where The Sun Never Shines 3. Slow Healing Heart
4. Four Leaf Clover 5. A Good Day, Lord 6. No Vacancy (feat Valerie Speer and Kraig Smith).

Label - Bell Buckle Records (P) 2010 Valerie Smith
Digital Release - 23 Nov 2010 (Amazon)
Time - 19:49

Valerie Smith originally hails from the town of Holt (Population 300), Missouri and made her way to be nearer to Nashville. For her, Music City is now an hour’s drive north away, currently living in a tiny Tennessee hamlet called Bell Buckle. Her sound is drawn from elements of the mid-west with a pot-pourri of country, blues, folk, blues, and bluegrass. Last year in association with the International Bluegrass Music Museum (IBMM) Smith assembled her friends Ernie Evans, Rebekah Long and Becky Buller and members of her touring band Liberty Pike, to teach school groups from across Daviess County, Kentucky.
The spin-off from this project was a decision to record an album at the IBMM facility. In so doing they created their own piece of history becoming the first artists to cut an album there.
They built a makeshift studio and after the school lectures were finished scheduled recording sessions.
In between takes, I would walk around the exhibits, reading the incredible stories about the artists, feeling the passion that we all have for this beautiful genre - bluegrass” Valerie shares.

The much respected musician and songwriter Becky Buller produced this “six-pack project” and she also adds fiddle, guitar and vocals. This is the first part of 12 songs they recorded with a follow-up Volume 2 of six songs due to appear later this year. (Making the album Video)

The lively opening title track (written by Buller and Elizabeth Shrum) was selected by Valerie – “Because everything that I’ve done over the last years on the road I could blame it of bluegrass music, I love it so much!” said Smith. She taught at an Elementary School and was involved with an advertising agency –“I lost my mind and became an artist, forget it all, I’m going to sing music and travel on the road” she jokingly shared. The pace moves faster than a railroad train on this number with Ernie Evans (banjo and mandolin) and Buller (fiddle) trading licks and adding some suitably high lonesome Ooh-ooh-ooh’s on harmony. Valerie admits to her love affair with the genre with the words: I think that I’ve fallen head over heels in love with you. Then she later pleads her innocence “I’m a law biding straight arrow” to a police officer whilst explaining away a speeding offence with a happy-go-lucky line: Something strange came over me while listening to the radio, I hope you understand!

Smith, playing the role of a forlorn wife, dishes out the dirt on a faithless husband on the menacing ‘Where the Sun Never Shines’ (written by Douglas O. Flowers). He’s broken every vow and she has thrown in the towel with words: I don’t want to think about you / Told you a thousand times
Ready to seek new pastures whilst turning her back on love with a cutting and painful fiddle she declares: I’m going to where the nights turn to day I won’t need to care about your wild and your wicked ways

The sad country weeper ‘Slow Healing Heart’ written by Jim Rushings was first cut by Vern Gosdin on his 1984 album THERE IS A SEASON. Valerie’s vocal squeezes every bit of pain with each aching line sung, where, after break-up, a woman’s spirits are broken. She will however always remain guarded against making the commitment again, with words: Against looks that are tender and words that are hard Because I still remember those cutting remarks Oh its painful, a slow healing heart
The pace is lightning fast on the upbeat ‘Four Leaf Clover’ where both love, money and luck runs out every which way! The prayer lines busy and she can’t get through. The fiddle riffs that close the track have a ‘Devil went Down To Georgia’ vibe.

The joyful, uplifting and spiritual ‘A Good Day, Lord’ is sung from the heart with sincerity by Smith. Written by Buller and Nashville songwriter Jeff Hyde it scores a six with the roll of the dice.

The country gospel number ‘No Vacancy’ (written by Merle Travis and Cliffie Stone) was recorded by Travis in May 1946 immediately after World War II. At that time the sign was commonplace as people and returning veterans struggled to find somewhere to live. The track was suggested to Valerie by her friend and musical historian Dave Freeman from Rebel Records. There are some minor alterations to the original lyrics with his adaption. Smith is joined on the chorus by her husband Kraig Smith and legendary gospel artist Ben Speer. The lead singer of the influential family group The Speer Family and Gospel Music Assoc. Hall of Fame inductee adds his lower register to this bluegrass gathering.

I looking forward to next 6-track offering.
