Award-winning performer Royal Wade Kimes—known for writing hit songs for himself and other artists, including Garth Brooks and Trace Adkins—has done the unexpected: his hot new single was written by someone else 48 years ago!

The new single, showcasing Royal Wade’s signature cowboy country musical style, is a powerful, unforgettable version of Bobby Bare’s classic “500 Miles Away From Home,” written by Bare, Charlie Williams and Hedy West.

Early reviews of Royal Wade’s new take on the 1963 hit song have been remarkable raves. Noted Nashville music critic Stacy Harris declared, “If a listener had never heard Bobby Bare’s classic recording…one would swear Kimes’ was the definitive version.”

The single will hit radio’s desk the first week in July, with the video being released shortly after the single. Staying true to the song’s message, Royal Wade—proclaimed the Best Living Western Solo Musician by nationally-acclaimed True West magazine in December 2010—traveled 500 miles while shooting the video for the single.

“Most videos are wrapped up in a day or so,” notes Royal Wade, “but I decided if we were going to shoot a video about a guy’s 500-mile struggle to get home, I wanted the filming to actually depict a 500-mile journey. And that’s what we did. It took us three weeks of filming in multiple locations in Tennessee and Arkansas to capture the entire journey.”

In an extraordinary twist of fate, the distance from Royal Wade’s Tennessee ranch to his father’s ranch in Chester, Arkansas, is exactly 500 miles. “Some would call that an omen,” chuckles Royal Wade. “Me, I call it destiny.”

The accomplished singer/songwriter candidly reveals he likes making history. “When the great Bobby Bare’s monster hit song was originally cut, video didn’t exist,” he explains. “So this will be the first-ever video covering this classic country song—and it’s one of the most extensive shoots for a three-minute song in country music history.”

In a tip of the hat to his own career, Royal Wade asked celebrated radio personality Bill Cody of Nashville’s WSM radio to appear in the “500 Miles Away from Home” video. Cody was the first to interview Royal Wade when the talented Arkansas native first roared onto the country music scene in 1997.

“500 Miles Away From Home” is the second single from Crossing The Roads, Royal Wade’s tenth album. The CD’s debut single, “I’m An Ole Song,” released earlier this year, was an international hit

Royal Wade, often compared to Marty Robbins and Johnny Cash, has performed in front of hundreds of thousands of fans in 30 states at fairs, festivals, rodeos, conventions, night clubs, theaters and special venues, including NASCAR events, the historic Grand Ole Opry and Disney World. His numerous country, gospel and western albums, powered by an array of hit singles, have contributed to his lasting popularity.

73rd National Folk Festival Puts Down Roots at Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park

73rd National Folk Festival Puts Down Roots at Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park
Nashville to Host Festival September 2-4, 2011
NASHVILLE – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Nashville Mayor Karl Dean are excited to announce that the 73rd, 74th and 75th National Folk Festival is putting down roots at the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park for its free-to-the-public three-day event Labor Day weekend 2011, 2012 and 2013.
Located in the shadow of the State Capitol in downtown Nashville, the 19-acre park was built in 1996 and is a lasting monument to the state’s bicentennial celebration.  A living historical feature, the park serves as a tourist destination and education center for all ages.
“Just as the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park preserves and highlights the remaining, unobstructed view of Tennessee’s State Capitol, the National Folk Festival preserves and celebrates the roots and variety of American culture we have here in our state,” Gov. Haslam said.
The traveling National Folk Festival is the oldest and longest-running celebration of traditional arts in the nation. Created by the National Council for the Traditional Arts (NCTA) in 1934, it celebrates American culture through traditional music, dance, craft, storytelling and food.
Nashville is proud to host the National Folk Festival, which will feature over 250 of the nation’s finest traditional performers and craftspeople, with simultaneous performances on six stages throughout the park. Attendees can dance, engage with master crafts people, shop the festival marketplace and enjoy regional and ethnic food.
“Celebrating the arts is a Nashville tradition, and Bicentennial Mall—located in the heart of our city—is a perfect place for a celebration of the traditional arts.  I’m proud that the music industry, the business sector, and the nonprofit community came together to bring the Folk Festival to town, and I look forward to enjoying some great performances this Labor Day Weekend.” Mayor Dean said.
The National Folk Festival also announced its second round of performers at today’s event. The first eight performing groups were announced earlier this month. Groups announced today that will perform in Nashville Labor Day weekend include:
Massive Monkees – Breakdance, Seattle, Washington
Rapid-fire headspins, twirling windmills, and breathtaking backspins are the hallmark of breakdance, the exciting, athletic urban dance tradition central to hip hop culture. These young West Coast champions are taking this newer tradition from the American streets to a new level artistry.
Genticorum Québécois, Montreal, Québec
Bursting with infectious energy and humor, this young French Canadian trio is dedicated to celebrating the vibrant musical heritage and culture of Québec Province through music and song: fiddles, flutes, guitar, mouth harp, bass, high-energy foot-tapping and beautiful three-part harmony singing.
Phil Wiggins & Reverend John Wilkins Country Blues and Gospel, Takoma Park, Maryland and Memphis, Tennessee
Two country blues masters join forces in a multi-generational exploration that spans the geographical and musical roots of the genre.  Rev. John Wilkins continues the blues-based gospel guitar tradition of his father, pre-war blues legend Rev. Robert Wilkins, and harmonica wizard Phil Wiggins is rooted in the Piedmont blues tradition.
Lloyd Arneach Cherokee storyteller, Cherokee, North Carolina
Master storyteller Lloyd Arneach is a tradition-bearer of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.  Children of all ages will be enthralled by his traditional stories learned from family and other tribal elders, as well as those he has written himself.
The Shams Ensemble with Özden Öztoprak Kurdish, Iran and California
This acclaimed ensemble is noted for its powerful music rooted in Iranian Kurdish tradition that features the Kurdish lute, the tanbour. At the festival, the group will be joined by one of the finest Kurdish singers in the U.S., originally from Turkey and now calling the Bay Area home.
Oyama & Nitta Tsugaru Shamisen, Aomori and Hokkaido, Japan
The modern sensibilities of these masterful young performers propel a 500-year-old Japanese instrument, the three-stringed banjo-like shamisen, into the 21st century, employing flashy finger work, percussive effects and fiery improvisation to create new and startling sounds.
The 73rd, 74th and 75th National Folk Festival in Nashville will be produced by the National Council for the Traditional Arts and Nashville Folk and Roots, in partnership with the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, the Arts and Business Council of Greater Nashville, the Nashville Downtown Partnership and the Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau, in collaboration with the state of Tennessee and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
Financial and in-kind support make the National Folk Festival possible. Thank you to our sponsors and additional partners: Avenue Bank • Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell and Berkowitz, PC • BMI • Bridgestone Americas, Inc. • Compass Records • Cracker Barrel • Mark Montgomery • Nashville Electric Service • SunTrust • Tennessee Department of Agriculture • Vail Memorial Trust • Veritas Media Group • AEG Live/The Messina Group • Cheekwood • Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum • Design “615” • Emma • Global Education Center • Katy Kirby • Lindsey Bailey • Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools • Music City Roots • Nashville Chamber of Commerce • Nashville Public Library • Robert Hakalsk • Sarratt Art Studios • Sheraton Nashville Downtown • Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition • Tennessee State Department of Tourist Development • Tennessee State Museum • Tennessee State Parks • The Frist Center for the Visual Arts • Tuck Hinton Architects • Two Dog Media • XMI

Country Band Issues 6-Song Project

Country Band Issues 6-Song Project as Two Different Radio Singles Gain Momentum on Both Sides of the Atlantic

"...any of these six cuts could be a single.
This group is ready for the big time."
- Chuck Dauphin, Music News Nashville

NASHVILLE, TN (June 28, 2011) – Rising Country band, LiveWire, releases their debut EP - today, June 28. The 6-song project is available at iTunes, CD Baby, Amazon, and other digital retailers.

The EP includes two recent singles issued by the group; “Tater Fed,” their debut US single, is gaining steam at radio, while a second single, “Heart Burn,” is currently sitting at #6 on the Hotdisc Top 40 chart in Europe.

The release of the EP marks a huge milestone for the Joplin, Missouri-based band, which has been together for over a decade. LiveWire features lead guitarist Bobby DeGonia, lead singer/acoustic guitarist Andy Eutsler, drummer Adam Hagerman, fiddle player Cory Shultz, rhythm guitarist Danny Bell and bassist Landon Rolfe. Bell and Eutsler also serve as principal songwriters for the group.

LiveWire’s unique Ozark Mountain firebrand sound blends working man’s Country and rootsy Southern Rock, which is perfectly captured by co-producers Bart Pursley (Nashville engineer on projects by Gretchen Wilson & Big & Rich), LiveWire lead guitarist Bobby DeGonia, and band sound tech, Justin Woods. Edgy and passionate, their original songs are infused with the kind of lyrical honesty and expert musicianship that can only be forged through years of shared personal experiences and hardships. Themes of the common man resound - it’s music about real life: good times, hard times, poverty, love, loss, family, spirituality, death and redemption.

The EP opens with “Tater Fed,” which Music Row’s Robert K. Oermann called “a stirring backwoods rocker.” “Gone” is an out-the-door and down-the-road leaving song. “Heart Burn” showcases a tasty Beatle-esque twin guitar riff in a cautionary tale about playing it cool in love - and losing. “That’s What Makes You A Man” is a heart-tugging story of family traditions, honor, God and country. “Drink About It,” is a light-hearted fiddle-driven hook that finds the band making short work of woman trouble. “For The Last Time” ends the set with a hook-driven melody of love lost that leaves you hungry for what’s next from LiveWire.

Over the years, LiveWire has forged a reputation as one of the top-draw live acts in the Midwest by regularly packing venues in their home state and in the surrounding areas of Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas. Along the way, their homegrown talent has taken them across America where they have opened for a “Who’s Who” of the music world, and experienced a brush with the “big time” as finalists in the 2009 Colgate Country Showdown in Nashville, where they performed on the hallowed stage of the Ryman Auditorium.

Mick Jagger formiert neue Superband

Mick Jagger (Gesang, Gitarre, Mundharmonika, Co-Produktion)
Dave Stewart (Gitarre, Co-Produktion)
Joss Stone (Gesang)
Damian Marley (Gesang)
A.R. Rahman (Gesang, div. Keyboards)

Co-produziert wurde das SuperHeavy-Album von Jagger & Stewart.

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (June 22, 2011) - Mountain Music Entertainment proudly announces exclusive booking representation of singer and songwriter Brandon Rickman. The partnership became official the week of June 1st though Rickman and Mountain Music Entertainment have been working together since March 2011.  Mountain Music Entertainment will provide exclusive representation for Brandon Rickman during solo performances. Interview with The BordererS

Interview with The BordererS

Ch.L.: Country Music has many new fans in Europe, who may be hearing about you for the first time. How would you describe yourself and the music you play to someone who'se never seen or heard you before.

The BordererS: The BordererS are a very energetic, rootsy band. They're originally from Scotland & Ireland but now live in Australia. You can't help but dance to their music.

Ch.L.: How was the last year for you? What were the highlights?

The BordererS: The last year was hard as we lost our son to suicide, and I'm in Scotland at the moment as my mum has just died, but professionally the highlights were performing at the Tamworth Country Music Festival and the Gympie Muster in Queensland, Australia.

Ch.L.: What's your latest CD and how's it doing?

The BordererS: The BordererS latest CD is called " A Time For Change" and it's our most successful CD to date. It also has a DVD to go along with it. The stand out tracks are Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" and "Higher Ground" with Serena Ryder from Canada.

Ch.L.: How did you choose the title for the CD, is there a story behind it?

The BordererS: It's called "A Time For Change" because it marked a musical change for the band. It sounds a bit like Bruce Springsteen's Seeger Sessions and features lot's of banjo and dixieland influences. It also had a political connotation, as it was time to get rid of Blair, Bussh and Howard in Australia.

Ch.L.: Do you write the songs yourself and if not, how do you go about finding the songs for the your CD?

The BordererS: Yes, we write the songs ourself. We're also just nearly finished another album with 14 new songs.

Ch.L.: Please tell us about the songs on your album.

The BordererS: The songs on " A Time for Change" were done live in our recording studio's living room. We wanted a kinda rough and ready sound.

Ch.L.: What's the difference between your last CD and the current one?

The BordererS: The last CD was mostly done live in the studio whereas the new one is 9 months in the making at present. We probably still have another 2 months left to finish it.

Ch.L.: Your current single is being played by radio. What do you thing is specail about this song that makes people what to hear it?

The BordererS: Everybody seems to love "Hallelujah" It's a very special song.

Ch.L.: What will your next single be?

The BordererS: We're not sure yet.

Ch.L.: What kind of songs do you like to record the most?

The BordererS: My wife ( the singer ) likes to record the slower ballad type songs as we find it hard to get the energy for the fast ones in the studio.

Ch.L.: You did a duet with ... How did that happen to come about?

The BordererS: We did a duet with Serena Ryder from Canada. We met her a blues / rootsy festival in Western Australia. We asked her to come on stage with us and our daughter taught her the song 3 minutes before she came on. It was a great moment.

Ch.L.: What's your favorite song among all the songs you've recorded and what's the story behind it?

The BordererS: Our favourite song is called: "Will you love me when I'm fat, bald & ugly?" It's not one of our own songs. We heard a a Scottish guy called Steve Boyd sing it at a gig in Australia and couldn't get it out of our heads for a week. We asked if he'd send us a copy of the song and then started to perform it. The crowd loves it and it's been used at loads of weddings.

Ch.L.: How much creative control do you have over your music?

The BordererS:  We have total creative control as we're not signed to any major label. We have our own Record Company "Celtic Records"

Ch.L.: Do you have any interesting stories about how fans have been affected by your music?

The BordererS: One of our fans moved from Melbourne to Paris because of one of our songs. The track is called "Jump Right In" and it's about taking chances in your life. She wanted to speak better French so she went to work in a travel agency in Paris. She's helped us find an apartment in Paris as we'll be there from the 14th to the 18th July 2011.

Ch.L.: Who do you look up musiccally and how deep do your musical roots run?

The BordererS: We like Brice Springsteen, Prince, Garth Brooks, Status Quo and Celine Dion. It's quite a varied mix.

Ch.L.: What do you think about today's Country Music versus its roots and where do you see it going in the future?

The BordererS: We think that todays country music is vastly over produced. It doesn't have the same edge to it. To us it sounds too glossy. We hope that it goes back to it's roots.

Ch.L.: In your opinion, what is the biggest difference between „traditional“ and „new“ country music?

The BordererS: Traditional is good whereas new country sounds a bit boring and bland.

Ch.L.: If you had the chance to change something about the music industry, what would it be?

The BordererS: I'd make the commercial radio stations play independent artists.

Ch.L.: As an artist you have to do so many different things such as recording, touring, doing interviews etc. What do you like best, what's your favorite activity?

The BordererS: I like doing interviews the best and also recording. My wife hates recording though. She loves live gigs.

Ch.L.: Are you doing anything to take country music beyond it's courrent borders or are you happy where it is?

The BordererS: The BordererS are performing in Scotland and at the Mirande Festival in France. This is France's biggest country music festival. The BordererS like to add different flavours to their country music. We love mixing Zydeco with Celtic instruments.

Ch.L.: What's unique about you that differentiates you from other artists?

The BordererS: We wear kilts on stage. We always dress up whereas a lot of bands don't.

Ch.L.: What moments in your career stand out in your memory as highlights and achievements which you're proud of?

The BordererS: Playing in front of 30,000 people in Federation Square on New Year's Eve was a highlight. Also winning songwriting awards in the USA were good too.

Ch.L.: What can your fans expect to see when they see you in concert?

The BordererS: A really entertaining and lively show. You'll laugh, dance and clap till your hands hurt.

Ch.L.: When you're on tour, do you have time to play tourist?

The BordererSe: Yes. We're just about to roam around the South of France before we play at the Mirande Festival on July 13th.

Ch.L.: Many music fans today get their information about artists via the internet. Do you have your own website and what will fans find there?

The BordererS: www.theborderers.com.au They will find biographies and song samples etc.

Ch.L.: Tell us about the fan club and how people can join it.

The BordererS: If people look up the website then they can join the fan club www.theborderers.com.au

Ch.L.: What's the best compliment a fan has ever given you?

The BordererS: You look like Brad Pitt. Only joking. Women who've been affected y domestic violence have really commented on our song "Independent's Day" It made them get out of bad relationships.

Ch.L.. What message would you like to send your European fans?

The BordererS: We hope that you can come to see the BordererS at the Mirande Festival on July 13th and please come and say hello.

Steel Guitar News

Hello fellow players,

Lets talk about the life of certain components on a steel guitar. You know what I mean. Parts that need to be replaced more often than others do. Strings need to be replaced because they go dead, corrode or just plain break. Volume pots wear out and get noisy much quicker than any of us would like for them to do.

Now we come to a part that really doesnt wear out and should last forever, but because of being abused, they dont last very long. This is the nylon tuner on an all pull system guitar. The nylon should rarely ever be tweeked. Ive seen guitars that were practically new, but the nylons have been turned, bent, stripped to the point of being worthless.

The bad thing here is most people dont even know how to put a new one on. The nylon should last years and years and years. It should never wear out, but can possibly become damaged by players that dont understand how they work or why. If there is a tiny washer installed between the nylon and the hole it goes through on the changer, it should be very hard to damage unless youre trying to tune the guitar with a pair of pliers instead of a three sixteenths socket type wrench.

Then we have fretboards. For some strange reason, some people like to run tape down the edge of them and write down the chords at each fret. Thats like a piano player taking a magic marker and writing down the names of the notes on the keys. Pretty ridiculous. And then even worse, I have seen guitars that have the name of the chords at different frets written right on the finish of the guitar beside the neck. Tell me this doesnt devalue the worth of the guitar.

Ive had guys say that they have the rollers worn out on their guitars. I have covered this roller subject before. This is something that is very near and dear to my heart. Rollers do not wear out. It would take 150 years of continuous playing to get a roller to show any wear.

Yes, I have seen old Sho-Buds with the hole in the middle of the roller turning oval instead of being round. I thought that was wear in the beginning, however I have since realized that the guitars were resting on the rollers and strings in the case and this is what beat the holes oblong, not wear.

On many Sho-Bud steel guitars built in the seventies, eighties and nineties the zinc fingers or roller cam in the changer will wear quickly because of the lowering finger that activates the changer will actually saw into it when played. This is one of the bigger points of wear on the late Sho-Bud guitars. I can fix these permanently without too much trouble or money. So if you have an old Sho-Bud you can send it to me and we can take care of it for you.

Springs on a steel guitar Emmons push pulls, LeGrandes or any steel guitar will technically last forever. They will only go bad if pulled, pushed, moved around and generally mistreated. Ive had people many times over the years want to order new springs for their Emmons push pull lowering fingers. This is pretty ridiculous because the tension on these strings can be easily adjusted and the spring should never be in a situation where it is worn to the point that it needs to be replaced.

This may be a long letter, but read it again and think about it.

Interesting observations I have for you today. Remember Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan or O.J. Simpson? These are very famous people that seem to get away with murder for no other reason than that they are extremely famous.

Other people that have ended up having to pay for their dastardly deeds long after they shouldve paid up, are famous political leaders like Stalin, Osama Bin Laden, Khadafy and Hitler himself, people that used their fame to sustain their life because of people that should have helped end these lives sooner didnt do it because they feared the fame and power that these people had.

We even have idiots in our own news at this time, like Representative Anthony Weiner, Blagojevich, Senator John Edwards and others. Im not saying these last ones should be shot, however its obvious that they have made some very poor decisions after we made some very poor decisions and elected them to be leaders for us.

In our own little world of country music, there are true idiots of entertainers out there, along with some good talent and very wonderful people. Over the years I have been following the careers of a few that I just cannot understand the stupidity of.

There are still people out there that say these are some of the greatest singers that have ever been in country music, which in itself is a stupid thing to say, but they do have followers that still like to publicly state how wonderful they are and how incredible they must be to be so famous.

Many of these famous celebrity country music singers treat their bands, record companies and everybody around them so badly that they are operating on the fringe of the law and way beyond the fringe of decency. But of course, outside of reality, the fans will never know about it and if they do, theyd never believe that their idol, the singer, could ever do anything wrong.

This is a real shame to follow a true psychopathic idiot blindly just because he makes records you like. Most people dont believe and realize that this singer that they like so much doesnt even make his own records. That task is accomplished by hard work from record companies, producers, writers and most of all promoters.

And how about the musicians that back these guys up? Would you believe that most people on the street still actually believe that the guys on the records actually work full time for the star himself? Everybody else does the work and the star gets the credit.

Well just remember, Bernie Madoff was rich and very famous too, but I hardly think that hes a brilliant anything to be looked up to.

Theres a little restaurant here in Hendersonville that I stop in to get my coffee every morning on the way to work. The owner manager of this little restaurant loves to hire the most beautiful young girls that he can hire to wait tables. While talking to one of these girls a few years ago, she confided in me that she was wanting to be a country music singer.

I said, Well what makes you think you can make it when so many others cant?

She said, Well, we have enough money behind us to get me famous.

I said, Ive heard that a lot in this town and have known some that actually made it from Hendersonville.

It wasnt too long until I turned on the TV one day and there she was. The rest is history. I still dont know if Taylor Swift is a really good singer or if it was just money and luck that made her famous and well known.

But have you ever noticed its the famous person that always wins an argument? Like the next door neighbor I had in Dallas that swore that Shot Jackson was the greatest steel guitar player in the world. I said, Well do you think hes better than Maurice Anderson or Tom Morrell?

He said, Why of course he is. Shot Jackson is in Nashville and Maurice Anderson just works in a music store downtown Dallas. The guy looked at me and said, Shot Jacksons a lot more famous than anybody we have in Dallas. So he must be better.

Which reminds me of a touch of sparing that a person and I had on the steel guitar forum last week. She not only doesnt play steel guitar, but because shes in a musical family, loves to argue with anything intelligent anyone says. She made the statement that blankety blank famous country music singer had to be great because of what hes done with his singing career.

Anybody know who Amy Winehouse is? Ever think of those entertainers that died because of drugs? Do you think they were brilliant? A few of them were talented, but as far as making the right decisions in life, they obviously didnt. But in the world of public opinion, the famous guy always seems to win out. If this wasnt true, there are many Hollywood stars that would be behind bars today that arent.

By the way, did you hear that The Judds are breaking up forever, again?
