Metronomy: Single: The Bay

Metronomy

Single: The Bay
VÖ: 29.07.2011

Frisch von ihrem aktuellen Sommerhit-Dance-Indie-Album THE ENGLISH RIVIERA erfreuen uns METRONOMY nun mit ihrer nächste Singleauskopplung THE BAY.
„Slighty funny disco songs like that are very popular there“ sagt Mount. “This isn’t Paris. This isn’t London. It’s not Berlin. It’s not Hong Kong. Not Tokyo.” Das ist THE ENGLISH RIVIERA. Das ist THE BAY. Das ist METRONOMY at it’s best.

Was Sie während des aufregenden Shorttrips erwartet?

Viel nackte Haut sogar. Cruising-Time mit den US-HipHop-Shootingstarz von den New Boyz, die mit „Backseat (feat. The Cataracs & Dev)“ den ersten Vorboten ihres zweiten Albums „Too Cool To Care“ startklar machen!
„I met a group of girls in a Escalade. They came with you and left with me...“ Nuff said, Ladiez und Gentlemen.

Steel Guitar News

Hello fellow players,

This newsletter may seem like a sales pitch but it is absolutely not. Im just going to give you some straight facts the way they are. Many people say they will not buy push pull Emmons even thought they know that the tone is superior to anything and the playability can be very good if adjusted correctly. Dependability can be excellent if the stops are set perfectly. Once these guitars are setup, they have a tendency to stay put better than about any guitar that I know of.

I do not sell these guitars new, but I sell several other brands new. I am telling you this about this great little guitar after spending nearly fifty years playing it professionally under some severe conditions. I have owned serial number 1554D since the early seventies. It has been in eight countries, been on over 3000 recording sessions and been responsible for my entire professional career in steel guitar.

I feel I am qualified to make a lot of the statements that I am about to make. When a person buys one of these guitars used, he may be biting off more than he can chew if he doesnt buy it from a player or company that will stand behind it totally. Like I say, adjusted correctly it will stay that way for many years.

They are much harder to make big changes to underneath, but done correctly by a professional technician, they will continue to perform very well. All the people that I have ever seen that have complained about the guitars are people that really dont even know how to tune one, much less set one up underneath.

If you buy one off eBay, youre really drifting into dangerous waters unless you are a serious technician yourself. If you buy one setup perfectly from a reputable source, you can be happier than youll ever be with anything. I have played many guitars in addition to my Emmons over the past fifty years. Several I have really liked, but to me serial number 1554D p-p is a priceless commodity in my professional playing career.

So the underlying current of what Im saying here is the more complicated the setup on the guitar and the more perfect you want it, the more you have reason to purchase it from me or someone with the talent to do complicated setups on these great guitars. As I have said, this guitar can be the greatest friend you could ever have in steel guitar or a bad enemy if you dont have it setup and working correctly.

If this guitar is working perfectly, it can do wonderful things for your playing career that no other guitar can really do. There are going to be several of you out there that may want to argue with me about this, but believe me nothing could sound better, play any better and do anything more for your reputation that this guitar will.

I can name many, many professional steel guitarists that have played the Emmons p-p for a good part of their careers, then tried other guitars and then gone back to the Emmons push pull guitars to spend the rest of their career with it, but you have to have it setup and working correctly. This is why you buy from a fanatical dealer or player. You may have noticed that the prices of the little Emmons push pull guitars are now surpassing the Emmons LeGrande guitars.

The LeGrande is also a wonderful steel guitar for tone and playability, but the hardcore old pros are preferring the p-p. I wish I had fifteen of them on my floor to sell right now, but unfortunately I only have two. There are many other guitars that I love and have in stock and actually may be better for the non-professional player that doesnt want to learn servicing of the p-p.

Theres no one guitar that is perfect for everyone, but if you know what you want or if you want a push pull guitar, Ill do my best to see that you are taken care of in your purchase.

I cant help but remember John Hughey coming in my store shortly before he passed wanting me to help him find either his old Emmons p-p or another one in equal condition. Then I think about many great players that have come to me looking for these wonderful guitars.

There is one substitute for the guitar that sounds very, very good, possibly equal or better, but its made in Bosnia by a great craftsman, Dusan Papac. His guitar is exactly like as high a quality push pull as can be. The only major difference is a difference that you cannot see with your eyes and does not affect the guitars tone or anything else. It is a metric guitar. All screws, leg threads, legs and all machine work on the guitar is done to metric specs. As easy as metric nuts, bolts and screws are to obtain today, it should make no difference. Personally, Id play one in a second.

Purchasing a steel guitar is not the simplest thing in the world but I try to make it as simple as possible for you. It can sure make your life extremely happy or if you buy the wrong guitar from the wrong person, it can make your life miserable.

Did you hear about the steel player who bragged that he could play thirty second notes? The rest of the band didnt believe him so he proved it by playing one.

I want to announce that we have an exciting new product that will very positively make a better player out of you. Its very inexpensive and made by Tascam. See all about it in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkje1we7G2g

Sara Hickman’s New Project Best of Times To Feature Willie Nelson, Robert Earl Keen, Rhett Miller and More

Sara Hickman’s New Project Best of Times To Feature Willie Nelson, Robert Earl Keen, Rhett Miller and More
Texas Luminaries Pay Tribute to Hickman With New 38-Track Compilation to Benefit Theatre Action Project (TAP)
Available August 23, 2011
REVIEW COPY AVAILABLE NOW
Amy BlackNashville, Tenn. - With an unwavering dedication to increased awareness and funding for arts education and a passion for art and the creative process, Sara Hickman provides a unique and powerful voice for women, her generation and the value and importance of the arts in school. It is no wonder more than 30 Texas music legends including Willie Nelson, Rhett Miller, Shawn Colvin, Robert Earl Keen and dozens more have come together to both pay tribute and add to her philanthropic endeavors with The Best of Times.  Sales of this compilation CD, available nationwide August 23, 2011, will benefit Theatre Action Project (TAP), a non-profit that brings art, music and theatre to Central Texas schools.
The 38-track double disc project was inspired by a recent slash in arts funding by Texas State Legislature. “I wanted to utilize my position as the Official State Musician of Texas to promote families being creative together,” says Hickman. “Many times this starts with children bringing home ideas they learn at school.”
The compilation CD was created to raise funds for TAP and help the organization take the arts and theatre back into the schools. Hickman goes on to say, “I knew thousands and thousands of Texas children were missing out on what art, music, theater, dance and writing can bring to their lives.”  Hickman’s goal is to raise $250,000 for TAP and share her story with Texas state legislature on Arts Day in an effort to have arts funding fully reinstate in Texas schools.

Their latest single, entitled “Second Chance” (Keith Burns/Michelle Poe/Tom Stipe) is currently at radio with video airplay on television screens across the country and online (including CMT.com, GACtv.com, Roughstock.com and YouTube). The cut is their third release from the pair’s double-disc, self-titled debut album, released last month.

Interview EMMA6

Ch.L.: German Music has many new fans in Europe, who may be hearing about you for the first time. How would you describe yourself and the music you play to someone who's never seen or heard you before.

EMMA6: We are EMMA6 (spoken “EmmaSix”), a German rock trio. The Members are the brothers Peter (24, vocals, guitars) and Henrik Trevisan (21, drums, vocals) and their best friend Dominik Republik (22, bass, moog synthesizer). We would describe our music as handmade mixture of pop, rock and indie with German lyrics.

Ch.L.: How was the last year for you? What were the highlights?

EMMA6: The last year was probably the most exciting in band history. We got our deal with Universal Music, recorded the debut album, released it, played the first sold out concerts. The step between the point that was 1 ½ years ago and now is huge.

Ch.L.: How did you choose the title for the CD, is there a story behind it?

EMMA6: Our debut album is called “Soundtrack für dieses Jahr” (“soundtrack for this year”). It contains 12 songs, one for each month.

Ch.L.: Do you write the songs yourself and if not, how do you go about finding the songs for the your CD?

EMMA6: Yes, we do write ourselves. Afterwards, we often do the fine tuning together with our producers.

Ch.L.: Please tell us about the songs on your album.

EMMA6: The good thing about debut albums is that they are often more than a moment snap-shot. It's the same with our first record. It contains songs that belong to the first ones we ever wrote about 5 years ago. On the other hand, there are songs we just finished while recording the album last year.

Ch.L.: Your current single is being played by radio. What do you thing is special about this song that makes people what to hear it?

EMMA6: The reason we made “Paradiso” our first single is that it represents the sound of EMMA6 very well. In addition, the verses only consist of single catchwords that build the story.

Ch.L.: What will your next single be?

EMMA6: The next single which will be released in July/August will be a track called “Leuchtfeuer”. It's a ballad with acoustic guitar and typical rockdrums in the end. But basically there is an electronic drumbeat and a few synthesizers which makes it sound quite special and modern.

Ch.L.: What kind of songs do you like to record the most?

EMMA6: All songs.

Ch.L.: What's your favorite song among all the songs you've recorded and what's the story behind it?

EMMA6: We love the last songs of our record called “Wie immer”. It breaks out of the form at the end and changes from a pop song into some kind of psychedelic jam.

Ch.L.: How much creative control do you have over your music?

EMMA6: 100%. Otherwise, we could not be as passionate about it.

Ch.L.: Do you have any interesting stories about how fans have been affected by your music?

EMMA6: We like to tell the story that a big fan tried to stagedive into the crowd while the crowd moved to the side and left a gap right where he intended to land on the crowd's hands. Fortunately, he wasn't hurt badly.

Ch.L.: Who do you look up musically and how deep do your musical roots run?

EMMA6: As a band, we don't have one special idol. Our music is a mixture of our personal influences that base on both German and international music.

Ch.L.: What do you think about today's German Music versus its roots and where do you see it going in the future?

EMMA6: It's positive to see that in the last ten years, the German music scene brought forward a lot of young new bands that do their own thing. Nevertheless, the German music branch could do a lot more for german bands.

Ch.L.: In your opinion, what is the biggest difference between „traditional“ and „new“ German music?

EMMA6: We think that “new” german music is more influenced by international artists and styles. “Traditional” German music becomes more and more oldfashioned, which sometimes is a pity.

Ch.L.: As an artist you have to do so many different things such as recording, touring, doing interviews etc. What do you like best, what's your favorite activity?

EMMA6: In the end it's the touring which we like most. Of course, doing interviews, recording in the studio and so on is a lot of fun and interesting but you don't get the emotions and the feedback that you obviously get when playing in front of people and that's what it makes it so great.

Ch.L.: Are you doing anything to take German music beyond it's courrent borders or are you happy where it is?

EMMA6: Yes, we care a lot about our lyrics and try to make it as special as possible, using wordplay and phrases that haven't been there yet.

Ch.L.: What was your big break that got you into the music business?

EMMA6: We had the luck to become friends with Mark Tavassol, bass play of the famous German band “Wir sind Helden”. He became a fan, supported us and co-produced our record.

Ch.L.: Before you became a star, where your friends and family supportive or was it a struggle?

EMMA6: They always supported us. We were between 16 and 19 when the band started, therefore it was important for us to get a lot of encouragement by our families and friends.

Ch.L.: What inspired you to become an artist?

EMMA6: It was a quite natural development. When we first held an instrument in our hands, we knew that that is what we have to do. Since then, it has become even more passionate.

Ch.L.: What drives you?

EMMA6: The love for music and the reactions we get from our audience.

Ch.L.: What's unique about you that differentiates you from other artists?

EMMA6: It's hard to answer this question, some other people should do. But if we have to answer, it's our lyrics and the trio-sound that does not often exist in Germany.

Ch.L.: What has been your greatest challenge in music business?

EMMA6: It's still going on. Namely the try to establish ourselves in the German music scene.

Ch.L.: What moments in your career stand out in your memory as highlights and achievements which you're proud of?

EMMA6: Mostly the live moments. We love to be on stage and these are the greatest memories for us. Furthermore, we were very proud when our debut album entered the German Top 40 charts in the first week.

Ch.L.: Who's your biggest critic, yourself or others?

EMMA6: We ourselves and the closest people around us. It's very important to have these people who tell you honestly what they think about you and your music.

Ch.L.: Is there anything in your life that you would change if you could?

EMMA6: Not at the moment.

Ch.L.: What can your fans expect to see when they see you in concert?

EMMA6: An energetic, passionate show every night. The live thing is where we come from and why we make music.

Ch.L.: When you're on tour, do you have time to play tourist?

EMMA6: Actually we don't. There are often interviews before the show and then there's soundcheck and other things to do. And if you have the time to walk around you don't know anything about the city you are in and just go into a shopping mall. It's definitely very rarely that we do play tourist.

Ch.L.: Many music fans today get their information about artists via the internet. Do you have your own website and what will fans find there?

EMMA6: Of course we have a website (www.emma6.de) and facebook- and myspace-accounts (www.facebook.com/emma6musik / www.myspace.com/emma6music). You find music, photos, videos, daily information about what's going on, diary entries and all that stuff.

Ch.L.: What's your favorite song that you wish you could have recorded?

EMMA6: Definitely “Bittersweet Symphony” by The Verve.

Ch.L.: Fans are always hungry for good road stories. Do you have one you can tell?

EMMA6: In September, we are going on a big tour through Germany. Afterwards, we'll hopefully be able to tell you lots of stories.

Ch.L.: Describe what a perfect day is like for you.

EMMA6: You should listen to our debut single “Paradiso”. It describes exactly that.

Interview with Jackie Arredondo

Interview with Jackie Arredondo

Ch.L.: Country Music has many new fans in Europe, who may be hearing about you for the first time. How would you describe yourself and the music you play to someone who'se never seen or heard you before.

J.A.: A NEW SOUND AND COUNTRY STYLE WHICH I HOPE THEY LIKE

Ch.L.: What's your latest CD and how's it doing?

J.A.: INSANE, IT’S DOING GREAT! JUST FINISHED ANOTHER RADIO TOUR AND THE FEEDBACK HAS BEEN FABULOUS

Ch.L.: How did you choose the title for the CD, is there a story behind it?

J.A.: WE DECIDED TO CALL IT THE SAME AS THE SONG  “INSANE“

Ch.L.: Do you write the songs yourself and if not, how do you go about finding the songs for the your CD?

J.A.: I DO WRITE BUT I DECIDED TO ALLOW OTHER TALENTS IN ON THIS MATERIAL, MY TEAM USUALLY APPROACHES SONGWRITERS FOR SONGS AND WE SELECT FROM ALL WE RECEIVE WHAT THE BEST MATERIAL IS.

Ch.L.: What do you think is specail about your single that makes people want to hear it?

J.A.:  ITS CATCHY, HAPPY KINDA LOVE  SONG

Ch.L.: What will your next single be?

J.A.:  MY RECORD COMPANY HAS NOT DECIDED YET.  I JUST FINISHED RECORDING MY NEXT EP WITH SONGS WRITTEN AND PRODUCED BY THAT GREAT SONGWRITER AS IS BRIAN WHITE AND THE SELECTION WILL BE VERY DIFFICULT SINCE ALL THE SONGS ARE EXTRAORDINARY.

Ch.L.: What kind of songs do you like to record the most?

J.A.:  I LOVE ALL KIND OF TEMPOS, I THINK AN ALBUM SHOULD HAVE A VARIETY OF ENERGIES TO BRAKE THE MONOTONY AND GIVE MORE VERSATILITY TO THE ARTIST AND THAT’S WHAT I TRY TO DO.

Ch.L.: What's your favorite song among all the songs you've recorded and what's the story behind it?

J.A.: I THINK THE FAVORITES ALWAYS REMAIN ON THE LAST SONGS ONE RECORDS SO I HAVE TO SAY SOME OF MY FAVORITES ARE THE LATEST ONES THAT HAVE NOT YET BEEN RELEASED THAT I RECORDED WITH BRIAN WHITE

Ch.L.: Do you have any interesting stories about how fans have been affected by your music?

J.A.:  “SOMEONE LIKE YOU“ IS A VERY SPECIAL SONG BECAUSE I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS CORRESPONDENCE THROUGH MY WEB SITES ON HOW MUCH IT HAS BEEN DEDICATED ON THE FANS WEDDING DAY OR ANNIVERSARY EVEN A MOTHER DEDICATED IT TO HER NEWBORN. SO I WOULD SAY THIS SONG IMPACTED A LOT OF PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD.

Ch.L.: Who do you look up musiccally and how deep do your musical roots run?

J.A.: RASCAL FLATTS I WOULD SAY IS MY F AVORITE.  BEING A VOCAL COACH MYSELF I CAN APPRECIATE TECHNIQUE, SPECIALLY WHEN ITS SO WELL EXECUTED TOGETHER WITH EMOTION.  MY DREAM IS TO COLLABORATE WITH THESE GUYS SOMEDAY.

Ch.L.: What do you think about today's Country Music versus its roots and where do you see it going in the future?

J.A.:  COUNTRY MUSIC TO ME WILL NEVER LOSE ITS ESSENCE AND ITS PURITY WHEN IT COMES TO LYRICS AND MELODY CREATING STORIES FULL OF EMOTIONS.  THAT WAS THEN AND ITS STILL NOW AND I DO BELIEVE IT WILL REMAIN THAT WAY FOR A LONG LONG TIME TO COME.

Ch.L.: If you had the chance to change something about the music industry, what would it be?

J.A.:  I WOULD LIKE TO SEE LESS FUSIONS AND MORE ORIGINALITY IN OTHER GENRE’S LIKE POP AND RNB.

Ch.L.: As an artist you have to do so many different things such as recording, touring, doing interviews etc. What do you like best, what's your favorite activity?

J.A.:  I AM A PEOPLE PERSON, I LOVE RADIO TOURS BUT PERFORMING AND GIVING IT ALL ON THE STAGE MUST BE MY VERY FAVORITE.

Ch.L.: Before you became a star, where your friends and family supportive or was it a struggle?

J.A.:  MY FAMILY WAS VERY SUPPORTIVE.

Ch.L.: What inspired you to become an artist?

J.A.:  MY PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS WHERE ACTORS, SO MY PLAYGROUND WAS ALWAYS A THEATER STAGE.  I BEGAN ACTING WHEN I WAS 4 SO MY LOVE FOR PERFORMING WAS BORN THEN.

Ch.L.: What drives you?

J.A.:  GOD

Ch.L.: What's unique about you that differentiates you from other artists?

J.A.:   I GUESS I DONT HAVE YOUR TIPICAL COUNTRY VOICE AND THAT CATCHES THE ATTENTION OF ALOT OF PEOPLE

Ch.L.: What has been your greatest challenge in music business?

J.A.:  MAKING THE TRANSITION FROM REALITY VOCAL INSTRUCTOR TO BECOMING A COUNTRY RECORDING ARTIST

Ch.L.: What moments in your career stand out in your memory as highlights and achievements which you're proud of?

J.A.:  WHEN I WAS INSTRUCTING REALITY VOCAL COMPETITIONS IT WAS OVERWHELMING TO KNOW I HAD TAKEN MY WORK OF IN BETWEEN 4 WALLS TO 53 COUNTRIES.  RECEIVING CORRESPONDENCE FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD ASKING FOR HELP ON THEIR SINGING WAS VERY GRATIFYING FOR ME. ALSO COACHING, CEDELLA MARLEY (BOB MARLEY’S DAUGHTER) AND TOMMY MOTTOLA’S WIFE THALIA, AND OF COURSE WORKING WITH EMILIO ESTEFAN WAS ICING TO THE CAKE.

Ch.L.: Who's your biggest critic, yourself or others?

J.A.: ME

Ch.L.: When you get time off, how do you like to relax?

J.A.: I RIDE HORSES

Ch.L.: What can your fans expect to see when they see you in concert?

J.A.:  A LOT OF ENERGY BUT WHEN WE BRING IT DOWN, WELL, A LOT OF EMOTION

Ch.L.: What's the best compliment a fan has ever given you?

J.A.:  THAT  I TOUCHED THEIR HEART WITH MY VOICE

Ch.L.: What's your favorite song that you wish you could have recorded?

J.A.:  HERE COMES GOODBYE FROM RASCAL FLATTS

Ch.L.. What message would you like to send your European fans?

J.A.:  I WILL BE COMING TO YOU VERY SOON AND I HOPE THAT I CAN TOUCH YOUR HEARTS MY VOICE AS WELL

Ch.L.: Fans are always hungry for good road stories. Do you have one you can tell?

J.A.: WHILE TRAVELING THROUGH THE BACK ROADS OF TENNESSEE, OUR CAR BROKE DOWN AND A FAMILY WITH A HUGE RV SAW US WITH OUR INSTRUMENTS ON THE ROAD.  THEY STOPPED AND ASKED IF WE NEEDED HELP SO WE TOLD THEM WE WERE ON A RADIO TOUR AND NEEDED TO GET TO THE NEXT RADIO STATION AND COULD NOT BE LATE SINCE THEY WERE INTERVIEWING ME FOR THE FIRST TIME.  WE OFFERED TO PAY FOR THE GAS IF THEY WOULD GIVE US A LIFT BUT THEY SAID I COULD PAY THEM SINGING THE WAY THROUGH INSTEAD, AND SO WE DID.

Ch.L.: Describe what a perfect day is like for you.

J.A.:  HAVING HOT CHOCOLATE ON A SNOWY DAY NEXT TO THE FIREPLACE IN A MOUNTAIN TOP CABIN WITHOUT MEANS OF COMMUNICATION.
