CRAIG MORGAN TO HEADLINE FIRST ANNUAL NRA COUNTRY JAM

CRAIG MORGAN TO HEADLINE FIRST ANNUAL NRA COUNTRY JAM
PRESENTED BY BUSHNELL AND FOLDS OF HONOR

Sarah Darling and Due West to open the show at Pittsburgh’s Stage AE

Nashville, Tenn. – April 14,2011 – Country Music superstar and celebrated TV host Craig Morgan has been tapped to headline the first annual NRA Country Jam, presented by Bushnell and Folds of Honor. The concert event will take place Friday, April 29 at Pittsburgh’s Stage AE with singers Sarah Darling and Due West set to open what promises to be an energetic, high-octane show.

A former service member and active supporter of our U.S. military, Morgan, together with NRA Country and Bushnell, have designated a portion of the proceeds from the NRA Country Jam to benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation. Founded by Iraq veteran Major Dan Rooney, Folds of Honor provides post-secondary educational scholarships for children and spouses of U.S. military service members killed or disabled during service. Since its founding in 2007, the foundation has generated more than $9.8 million for post-secondary education scholarships.

“Not only are we going to give the fans a killer show at the first-ever NRA Country Jam,” shares Morgan, “it’s also incredibly rewarding to be able to support Folds of Honor in honoring our service members and their families.”

In addition to presenting the inaugural NRA Country Jam, Bushnell also partners with the celebrated entertainer on his top-rated Outdoor Channel show, Craig Morgan: All Access Outdoors. With the second season set to debut this summer, you can bet the cameras will be rolling on April 29 to capture all the energy and excitement of the first-ever NRA Country Jam.

For more information about the event or to purchase tickets, visit NRA Country. To learn more about Folds of Honor, make a contribution or nominate a recipient, visit www.FoldsofHonor.org.

Steel Guitar News

Hello fellow players,

Obviously last week’s newsletter hit a major chord with many of you. I got many favorable responses. Many I’d like to share with the rest of you. However, the gist of everything is almost everybody needs me to continue my newsletters with candor, honesty, tempered with a certain amount of belligerence which I will do.

I also got many responses by those of you that have been financially bit by club owners and band leaders that have hired you in the past. One story that was related to me was about a club owner that hired this gentleman’s band and when it came to the end of the night, claimed he didn’t have any money to pay the band.

So the band leader said, “Well I’m going to let you go this time and just remember us when you do have money to hire us.”

Two weeks later, the band leader walked in the club to see a disc jockey with all his paraphernalia setup in the stage area. Upon talking to the deejay and asking him what he charged for a night, the deejay said, “Seven hundred and fifty dollars.” And that the club owner had hired him for every weekend for a year.

The band leader was only charging $500 for a five piece band. So I ask you, wouldn’t this sound about right? By the way, the five piece band was a very good band.

I have heard many stories like this about deejays or karaoke machines replacing fine bands. Now I’ll agree that not every band in the world is worth what they’re asking, but most are, and let’s face it, nothing quite has the impact of a live band when you go out to a night on the town.

Now for a technical update that I’m seeing that is working out very good. The old Professional Fender three legged steel guitars with the trapezoid pickups are fast becoming to the end of their workability. I am installing a set of Alumatone pickups on a triple neck Fender Custom and so far these are working out much better than the original and I would continue to use these Alumatones even if I had a new set of trapezoids to install on these guitars.

As time sneaks by the keyheads in these wonderful old Fender steel guitars are rapidly suffering from tuning keys that are chewing themselves up. The little brass gears are just too soft to last another fifty years. So we are doing a Fender Stringmaster type modification to these old keyheads.

It involves some fairly expensive machine work, but if you have a double or triple neck Fender Custom or Dual Professional in your closet that won’t work because of bad pickups or slipping tuning keys, these modifications will make your guitar generally a lot better than new. Isn’t it better to have a steel guitar worth two to three thousand dollars than one piled up in the closet that’s only worth a hundred or two?

Check out our monthly specials at http://www.steelguitar.net/monthlyspecials.html and we’ll try to save you a lot of money.

Your buddy,
Bobbe

Tailwind Pictures Announces Opportunities for Film Enthusiasts to Appear in “Blake’s Country” and Chase Their Dream

Tailwind Pictures Announces Opportunities for Film Enthusiasts
to Appear in “Blake’s Country” and Chase Their Dream

Sweepstakes, Fan Club, Song Downloads Launch Today

SALEM, Ore., April 14, 2011 – Tailwind Pictures announces opportunities for movie enthusiasts to chase their dreams and appear in “Blake’s Country,” starring country music teenage sensation, Kylie Morgan.  The film begins principal photography in August, and is announcing a sweepstakes for a teenage girl, between 13 - 18 years, to appear in a scene in the movie.

Slated for release in December 2011, Blake’s Country is a movie for anyone with a dream and passion to pursue it. It’s the story of a young girl choosing between giving up her dream of singing or returning to the stage she loves.  The film’s star is Kylie Morgan, just 15-years-old, but already an established singer/songwriter who has been voted by the Country Music Association (CMA) as “Who New to Watch.”

“We want everyone – from teens to adults – to walk away from this movie feeling inspired and empowered to follow their dreams, “ said Ron Morris, president of Tailwind Pictures. “It’s especially important for teen girls to find their voices, and not just the singing kind.  Morgan’s character, Blake Nelson, will touch the ‘inner voice’ in so many girls.”

The Blake’s Country “Dare to Dream” Sweepstakes launches today and invites girls, between 13 - 18 years, to live their dreams by entering their names to win the grand prize – appearing in a Blake’s Country movie scene with Morgan. The winner, a friend and guardian will be flown to Oregon for the filming in August. Airfare, transportation, hotel and meals are included in the winner’s package. Second prize is a 3-day, 2-night trip to Nashville for the winner and guardian to attend the movie premiere in December. Fifty third prize winners will receive a Blake’s Country t-shirt. The first 500 girls who sign up to enter the sweepstakes will receive a signed Blake's Country movie poster.  Free to enter, the sweepstakes form is available now at www.blakesfan.com. Submissions close on June 15. Winners will be notified on June 30.

Today also marks the launch of the Blake Nelson Fan Club, www.blakesfan.com, which gives members the inside scoop on the movie production, Morgan’s songs, and more.  Free to participate, fans can earn points for joining and referring others to the club – which can be used for purchasing her songs and specialty items. They also can track Morgan’s cross-country bus tour from her hometown of Oklahoma City to the production town of Bend, Ore.

Three inspiring songs, recorded by Morgan, from the yet-to-be released Blake’s Country album are being made available today for download from the Blake Nelson Fan Club’s music page. Songs include “Country Girl,” “High Heels,” and “Find Myself.” Cost to purchase is $1.29 per song.
