Shawna Russell Releases New Single, “Get Right Or Get Left”
Okie Songbird Returns with Powerful Country Rocker – Video and Sophomore Album to Follow
NASHVILLE, TN (April 12, 2011) – Oklahoma recording artist Shawna Russell has released her latest Way Out West Records single, “Get Right Or Get Left” to radio, exclusively via AirPlay Direct.
Radio programmers can preview and download a broadcast quality copy of the song at: http://airplaydirect.com/shawnarussell/
“Get Right Or Get Left” was written by Russell; father, Keith Russell; and uncle, Tim Russell. The song is the first single from her forthcoming self-titled album, recorded at LOUD Studios in Nashville and produced by Grammy-winning engineer, Julian King, along with Clif Doyal and Tim Russell. The album is slated for release in Spring 2011.
“Get Right Or Get Left” features a cast of stellar backing musicians, including Shannon Forrest (2010 ACM “Top Percussionist/Drummer”); bassist Mike Brignardello (Lynyrd Skynyrd, Sugarland); mandolin, banjo and acoustic guitarist, Bryan Sutton (7-time IBMA “Guitar Player of the Year”); electric, slide and acoustic guitarist, Jon Conley (LeAnn Rimes, Wynonna); along with keyboardist Jim “Moose” Brown (Jamey Johnson, Darius Rucker).
"I am very excited to be back with new music!” Russell says. “‘Get Right Or Get Left’ is a fun song with a lot of attitude. I’m excited to share it with everyone."
Russell was in Nashville last week - between dates on her busy touring schedule - to shoot the video for “Get Right Or Get Left” with noted producer, Mark Nicolosi (Mark Wills, Stealin’ Angels). Promotion for the video will begin in the coming weeks.
What the tastemakers are saying:
“Shawna is now truly ready to compete with the big label stars. On “Get Right Or Get Left” there’s a hint of the vocal swagger of LeAnn Rimes. With a little luck and help from radio stations, we may have the birth of another star.” - Matt Bjorke, Roughstock
“A slice of sass, the attitude-laden ‘Get Right Or Get Left,’ could very easily find a home on the airwaves. A star on the rise.”
- Chuck Dauphin, the Direct Buzz

About Shawna Russell:
Shawna Russell first came on to the national and international music scene with the release of her debut album, GODDESS (Way Out West Records), in 2008, for which she co-wrote 12 of the 13 songs. Critical acclaim followed: the CMA named her “Who New to Watch,” and top music critics weighed in with praise for her debut. Chris Neal of COUNTRY WEEKLY gave GODDESS a 3 ½ star review, MUSIC ROW’s Robert K.Oermann bestowed a “DISCovery Award,” his highest compliment to a new artist, and rave reviews followed from CMA CLOSE UP, MAVERICK (UK), NASHVILLE MUSIC GUIDE, DREAMWEST (France), THE OKLAHOMAN, MUSIC NEWS NASHVILLE, COUNTRY STARS ONLINE and others.
Three radio singles, "Goddess," "Should've Been Born With Wheels" and "Fire In The Desert" cemented her status as a contender, with action on the Billboard "New and Active,' Music Row and Texas Music Charts. Shawna toured radio stations across the country where her talent won coveted performance and interviews for her on KBEQ-Kansas City’s highly-rated morning show with Mike Kennedy; Atlanta’s powerhouse WUBL; and on Washington DC’s “Voice of America” – which broadcasts to an international audience. Shawna's debut video "Should've Been Born With Wheels" reached the #1 position on the “Ya’llturnative” chart at Ya’ll Wire.com and stayed there for over a month and also attracted fans at CMT.com, AFN, GAC.com (debuted at #3 as a “Top Pick”) and on Pulse Network Television (“Top 20 Country Chart” for 3 months).

Grasstowne celebrating new CD Release
Mountain Music Entertainment presents an Evening of Bluegrass at White Horse Black Mountain (NC) on April 16th at 8pm. The evening will feature two headliner acts, Grasstowne and Ralph Stanley II. Grasstowne will be celebrating their new album release for KICKIN UP DUST (Rural Rhythm Records) that evening. The band is comprised of well respected veterans in bluegrass and acoustic music, Alan Bibey and Steve Gulley, who have known and admired each other for over 25 years in their endeavors with bands such as The New Quicksilver, IIIrd Tyme Out, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, BlueRidge and Mountain Heart. Add to the band’s mix three young and very talented players: Adam Haynes on fiddle and vocals, Justin Jenkins on banjo and vocals and Kameron Keller on upright bass and you have one of the hottest and energetic bands touring today. For more information on Grasstowne, please visit Grasstowne.com
“We are excited to be playing in Western North Carolina at the White Horse. It will be a fun evening of music with Ralph II and Grasstowne. We look forward to being part of the show for the evening and seeing our fans and friends in the area” said Alan Bibey of Grasstowne.
Grammy Award winning Ralph Stanley II, who’s known as “Two” to his friends, spent nearly half his 30 plus years as lead singer and rhythm guitarist for his father’s fabled bluegrass band, Dr. Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys. But like the great vocalist Keith Whitley, who preceded him in that position, Stanley has always had a passion for hardcore country songs, the ones that never wear thin from repeated singing. He is now fronting his own band doing a blend of bluegrass and county style songs old and new. With multiple awards and recognitions under his belt, Ralph II is looking to release his new project later this year. The show at the White Horse will be one of the few times he will visit Western North Carolina in 2011. For more information on Ralph II, please visit RalphStanleyii.com
The show will host both bands to give attendees a great night of bluegrass for the low $18 price of admission. The show is general admission seating. Tickets are available by contacting the White Horse in Black Mountain or learn more by visiting www.mountainmusicentertainment.com closer to the date of the show.
