Jennifer Lopez

Pitbull mittlerweile weltweit verkauft. Der Song eroberte letzte Woche Platz 1 in den britischen Charts und setzt den Erfolgskurs nun in Deutschland fort: Jennifer Lopez stürmt mit „On The Floor“ die Spitze der Media Control Charts! Das Album „Love?“ erscheint am 29. April.

Die erste Single „On The Floor“ feat.

ABOUT STEALING ANGELS: Caroline Cutbirth, Tayla Lynn and Jennifer Wayne are STEALING ANGELS. In case any of their last names sound familiar…they should! EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE NEXT UP FOR JACK DANIEL’S/USO “TOAST TO THE TROOPS” PROGRAM

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE NEXT UP FOR

JACK DANIEL’S/USO “TOAST TO THE TROOPS” PROGRAM

Country Music Star Craig Morgan to Make 14th Appearance Headlining
Toast Concert for U.S. Troops, Families and Volunteers

LYNCHBURG (pop. 361), Tenn. (April 11, 2011) – Eglin Air Force Base in northwest Florida will be the site of the next Jack Daniel’s/USO “Toast to the Troops” event on April 15th as military spouses,  USO volunteers and others will assemble thousands of Operation USO Care Packages for our troops serving overseas.

Since 2005, the Jack Daniel Distillery has been collecting personal messages of support in the form of “toasts” to include in USO care packages, and has hosted 13 other “stuffing parties” at military installations across the country.  More than 150,000 care packages have been sent to our troops through the “Toast to the Troops” program.

The 14th “Toast to the Troops” stuffing party will continue the tradition of having a “thank you” barbecue for all the package stuffing volunteers followed by a free base-wide concert headlined by country music star and Army veteran Craig Morgan.

“All of us at Jack Daniel’s honor and support our nation’s servicemen and women,” said Jennifer Powell, Senior Brand Manager for Jack Daniel’s.  “We also recognize and sincerely appreciate the sacrifices made by the spouses and families of our military heroes.  The Toast program is just one way for us to show our love and support to those who truly deserve it.”

The Operation USO Care Packages, sponsored for $25 each, include items requested by service members, such as prepaid international calling cards, toiletries, sunscreen, playing cards, disposable cameras and snacks.  The packages are being assembled for troops deploying to Afghanistan, Iraq and other overseas locations, as well as troops arriving and departing on rest and recuperation (R&R) flights.

“We thank Jack Daniel’s for their continued support,” said Elaine Rogers, president and CEO of the USO of Metropolitan Washington, which administers the Operation USO Care Package program.  “Since 2005, these events have been an excellent opportunity for local communities to demonstrate their support for our men and women in uniform and their families.”

Ten-year Army veteran Craig Morgan has been a part of all 13 previous Jack Daniel’s/USO “Toast to the Troops” events dating back to 2005.  He is a recipient of the USO Merit Award and has made nine overseas trips to entertain our U.S. troops.

“I’ve been honored to be part of the Toast to the Troops program since it began six years ago and it’s always inspiring for me to perform for our troops and their families,” said Morgan.  “I know how much it means to receive a care package out in the field and to know that you are supported.  Our troops, their spouses and families sacrifice so much, and I’m glad to get the chance to let them know how much we value their efforts.”

One of country music’s best-loved artists, Morgan has made a name for himself with massive radio airplay of his signature hits:  “Bonfire,” “Almost Home,” “Redneck Yacht Club,” “That’s What I Love About Sunday” (Billboard’s most-played country songs of the year in 2005) and “International Harvester.”  Craig received one of country music’s highest honors when was inducted as a member of the Grand Ole Opry in 2008.  Prior to becoming a country music star, Craig Morgan spent more than 10 years of active duty in the Army and additional years in the Army Reserves.  Adding to his diverse list of talents, Morgan is also the host of “Craig Morgan: All Access Outdoors,” the Outdoor Channel’s #1 rated Saturday morning hunting show.

The stuffing party will begin at 1:00p.m. on April 15th at Hangar 102 on Eglin AFB, followed by the concert at 7:00 p.m.

Due to heightened security, individuals can no longer send letters and packages addressed to “Any Service Member.”  The Operation USO Care Package program is the best way to send a message of encouragement directly to troops and provide a touch of home.  The USO has distributed more than two million care packages since the program’s inception in 2003.  More information on the Operation USO Care Package program and other USO programs can be found at www.uso.org.

Steel Guitar Tips

Hello fellow players,

This is a strange business that we are in, me as a player and dealer and you guys that are enthusiasts and are not restricted by dealer rules or playing boundaries. I have to or I am supposed to be very careful in what I say in these newsletters, not to offend anyone. Whereas you may have noticed, there are some rules that I dont really adhere to the way I probably should.

The way I look at it, you folks can email me and say anything you want. I obviously say about anything that I want. Sometimes I say something and its like lighting a short fuse on a long stick of dynamite. However, Im always sorry if I dont say something and sometimes sorry if I barely say something that offends.

But let me tell you something, these newsletters are going to be a lot more exciting if I say exactly whats on my mind and right or wrong, thats probably what Im going to do. After all, most of the time Im just reporting whats already been said or done. I hate many of the things that I have to say, like reporting the deaths of some of the worlds most famous steel guitarists or the demise of a famous steel guitar company. Some things just are not fun to tell and then some things are extremely funny.

If youre just after high tech information and its the only thing you care about, youre going to have to put up with some humor, history, twisted and straight personalities of us players and who we work for. This should keep these newsletters as interesting as anything you can read, especially if you like the music business and what us steel players and musicians have to go through to stay in the business.

In the past several months I have shared a lot of strange stories with you that myself and many of my friends have gone through, so like I say, if you think Im saying a lot of weird things, I feel that they need to be said or I wouldnt be saying them. After all, most of you are in this business in one way or another, so Im just letting you know that what I have gone through is something you can expect to go through also if you havent already.

When it comes to money Im sure as musicians, weve all been taken advantage of by someone we thought we were getting paid to work with or for. Usually its a club owner that stiffed us and I have been taken advantage of by bandleaders and fellow musicians that claim they didnt owe me anything because they were stiffed on the other end.

How about big time record companies in Nashville? Believe me, theyll get you as quick as anybody will. Famous jingle companies in all cities have a way of thinking, Well just hire a steel player and not pay him because it didnt cost him anything to work here.

I got nailed one time by a very large jingle production company from Dallas, Texas. They insisted that I fly to Dallas for a major jingle session, strings, horns, backup choirs and the whole big deal. I paid for my flight to Dallas, ground transportation to the studio, worked six very hard hours and when I packed up to leave and asked for a check, they said, Well send it to you. What address do you want us to send it to?

Guess what? I never heard from them again even after many phone calls to try to collect. This was supposed to be a substantial amount. The name of the jingle company was Pams. Finding out later it was a major company that was in the throes of bankruptcy after being successful for many years, instead of me making $2100, I ended up losing about $900. This was in the spring of 1974. Money meant more then.

This happened again in Nashville with a friend that was doing a major jingle for a California company. I went into Monument Recording Studios on Music Row and the string players were all tuning up, the rhythm section was all in place. I proceeded to setup and in a few minutes we were running down the first highly orchestrated chart.

It was a wonderful session and musically something I could be proud of the rest of my life, but when I called the Union to see if my check was in there a couple weeks later, they replied, No. Were having trouble collecting it from the California company that produced it.

I said, How can this be? It was a Union session with the best Nashville musicians Ive ever worked with on the session.

The Union replied, Well, were working on trying to get the money for yall.

After waiting several more weeks I called the Union again only to get a threat that they may be fining me for working for a company they couldnt collect from. I never did get the money and I never did pay any Union fines. Well anyway, this is life in the big city. So if youre having trouble collecting from a small club in your home town, dont worry because they usually pay better than a lot of the big labels do in the big cities.

I know Im going to get some flak for this newsletter from some big labels Ive worked for, but if they havent paid me, Id like to hear from them. If they have paid me, then I really welcome a phone call from them.

I remember working 24 sessions in December of 1975 and only getting paid for two of them. The reason being the petroleum prices at that time were raging fiercely and the labels could not get petroleum to make the 33 and 1/3 or 45 rpm records. The musicians that cut the records were at the end of the money chain, so we are the ones that got stiffed.

But things arent always bad. I remember one time getting booked for 15 three hour sessions in one week. The Monday I was supposed to start doing them, the girl in the record labels office said that the album that we were going to do had been cancelled, but they would go ahead and pay us for the sessions anyway as per Union agreement.

I hustled as hard as I could and booked 11 sessions for other companies. At the end of the week I had made more money than I ever have since for one weeks worth of being a studio musician.

Today its very hard for a hard working, busy studio musician, especially steel guitar, to book over 7 or 8 sessions for the entire week. Things are a lot different today than they were when I was coming up through the recording ranks. I liked it a lot better back then.

Walking into a session and hearing two or three Martin flattops singing together, the sweet sound of an electric Gibson through an Echoplex and a twenty year old Fender amp and a real 11 Bösendorfer or a Baldwin piano. Things were definitely very musical back in those days. Nowadays, for the rhythm guitars theyll hire three Telecasters with fuzztone. Is this progress or is it a fast, cheap, dirty way to produce something called cool?

Looking back into history and what has been recorded in Nashville in the last five years, then looking back at the mid-sixties when songs like Roy Orbisons Pretty Woman were recorded, I cant see where weve made any progress, but we have to keep trying no matter what.

I still love steel guitar even though the business might be turning left and Im still going straight. Do I recommend anybody else getting in this business? Absolutely yes. Get in, make money and have fun. Maybe someday youll be looking back at these first of the century days telling everybody how wonderful these old days were.

Check out our monthly specials at http://www.steelguitar.net/monthlyspecials.html and well try to save you a lot of money.

Interview with Chris Ride

Interview with Chris Ride

Ch.L.: Country Music has many new fans in Europe, who may be hearing about you for the first time. How would you describe yourself and the music you play to someone who has never seen or heard you before.

C.R.: I am excited to have this opportunity to reach out to the European community. my father Jim smelgus was born in Germany and my grand mother madin name zierl is German. We still have family living in the regensburg area. One of the songs we did on the American dream cd has a line in German in it. My music was influenced while growing up, my father listened to Beatles, eagles, aerosmith and mostly adult contemporary music, while my mom liked country  most pop and other music. As a kid I liked it all. I kind of knew that I had the music in me at a young age. the music I play now are songs people can relate to.  My parents got me a guitar for Xmas when I was 16 and I taught myself how to play. Shortly after that I started composing my own guitar licks and my father and I found out we could write lyrics together.

Ch.L.: How was the last year for you? What were the highlights?

C.R.:  last year was the starting point for me it was totally by accident. My friends and I got together started a small band (on the rocks) we put together seven or eight songs that we thought were good and wanted to record them at a local studio just to have are own cd that we could listen to. After searching we ended up at the power plant studio in Hampton VA. Owned by Doc holiday. He agreed to do the cd for us. During the recording process doc heard something in me even thru our inexperience that he liked and took me under his wing so to speak. And we've spent the last year recording mostly new material

Ch.L.: What's your latest CD and how's it doing?

C.R.:   our new cd is called ( Messages ) we recorded it in Nashville at QUAD studios with the legendary Doc Holiday producing with his „A“ Team of studio Players in March of 2011

Ch.L.: How did you choose the title for the CD, is there a story behind it?

C.R.:   Messages is one of the tracks on the cd. It was the first song we wrote out of the 12 songs on the cd and actually it kind of fits all the songs on, because they all have certain messages about love, and Life.

Ch.L.: Do you write the songs yourself and if not, how do you go about finding the songs for the your CD?

C.R.: some of the material I have done myself. When I come up with a new guitar rift my father and I write the lyrics. Doc Holiday comes up with most of the music and the arrangements. Its a team effort that seems to work the best.

Ch.L.: Please tell us about the songs on your album.

C.R.:  Acting Bad was the first cd we did, being a new comer we thought it was a good idea to show the versatility of our music range. The cd had a little country some rock, adult contemporary and ballads but because of that wide diversity of music we found out that it was difficult to pin point an audience, so with „Messages“ we took Americana, Country and a little rock edge and put them all together in each song, and now I feel like we finally came up with a Chris Ride  sound..

Ch.L.: What's the difference between your last CD and the current one?

C.R.: The new cd Messages is more Americana with a twist of songs that will fit more into my singing range plus they go much deeper into the music as well as the lyrics.

Ch.L.: Your current single is being played by radio. What do you thing is special about this song that makes people what to hear it?

C.R.: I think and hope it's because I have my own sound and the lyrics are about everyday life

Ch.L.: What kind of songs do you like to record the most?

C.R.: Songs that send a message to the listener, everyday life experiences. upbeat

Ch.L.: What's your favorite song among all the songs you've recorded and what's the story behind it?

C.R.:           Its hard to say. I like all the songs on the new cd. If I had to pick just one I think it would be SENSES ON FIRE to me it really has a lot of drive. The story behind it is its a pick up song with class

Ch.L.: Who do you look up musically and how deep do your musical roots run?

C.R.:  I love Eric Clapton, Beatles and Eagles.

Ch.L.: As an artist you have to do so many different things such as recording, touring, doing interviews etc. What do you like best, what's your favorite activity?

C.R.: I like the recording process. When I need to loosen up I get out and throw the football around with my friends

Ch.L.: Are you doing anything to take country music beyond it's current borders or are you happy where it is?

C.R.: no. We are just trying to push the envelope

It’s the perfect combination of leather & lace. They create, stir up, and serve up their own unique blend of Roots-Rock and Authentic Americana.

Call it what you want. But one thing is for sure: When you experience the music and LIVE performance you will have no doubt what “it” is. You can’t explain it. You can’t define it. You can’t contain it. And you can’t deny it. It’s simply Heath Eric & Molly G, doing what they do and unafraid to share it with the world.

Heath Eric & Molly G have entertained International audiences and performed throughout the region at venues of all sizes and in many environments including: festivals, fairs, outdoor concerts, arenas, theaters, performing arts centers, schools, colleges, universities, special events, corporate events, and more.

They have released two original albums, finally gettin' it and 39, and continue to tour extensively throughout the region.
