NASHVILLE - The CMC Rocks the Hunter 2011 Country Music festival in New South Wales, Australia served as the backdrop for two CMA International Award presentations last weekend (March 5-6). Event performer and 2003 CMA Horizon Award winner Joe Nichols; event co-producer and CMA Board member Rob Potts of Rob Potts Entertainment Edge; and event host and CMA Board member Storme Warren of GAC's "Headline Country" presented the CMA Wesley Rose International Media Achievement Award to Cheryl Byrnes, Manager of Country Music Capital News, and the CMA International Country Broadcast Award to Larry Cann, Director and On-Air Announcer for the Fairfax KIX Country Radio Network.
The CMA Wesley Rose International Media Achievement Award recognizes outstanding achievements in media which contribute to the development of Country Music outside the United States. Radio, TV, print journalists, authors, editors, television writers, producers, and PR companies who reside outside the United States are eligible to win this Award. It is named after a founding member of CMA who served as the trade association's first Chairman of the Board of Directors.
The CMA International Country Broadcast Award recognizes outstanding achievement by radio broadcasters outside the United States who have made important contributions toward the development of Country Music in their country.
"It's truly a great honor to receive this Award, which acknowledges my role with Country Music Capital News - Australia's only monthly Country Music magazine," said Byrnes. "Industry recognition within Australia is not such a regular occurrence so receiving the Wesley Rose Award from CMA validates all that I do personally within the Country Music industry -- and I'm truly grateful. The promotion of Country Music -- to and from Australia -- is so exciting and one I enjoy being a part of. It's such a thrill to have international artists tour Down Under as it excites existing fans, creates new fans, and can raise the bar for our local industry."
Born in Tamworth (Australia's Country Music capital), Byrnes is the daughter of the late "Gentleman" Geoff Brown, one of the pioneers of the city's Country Music scene. Throughout her career, she has been involved in Country Music having worked with the Capital Country Music Association, Radio 2TM, BAL Marketing, Max Ellis Marketing, CMAA, and The Pub Management.  She is currently employed with Rural Press Events as Manager of Country Music Capital News and Coordinator of Toyota Star Maker.
"Thank you to CMA," said Cann. "It's so wonderful to be recognized internationally at the KIX Radio Network for all our work over the years in Country Music in Australia."
Cann grew up on a farm in Chinchilla, Queensland, Australia before pursuing an international career as a professional bull rider and bareback bronc rider. He entered the radio profession in 1997 as a part-time broadcaster on KCTR in Billings, Montana while still competing in rodeos in the United States. Cann returned to Australia in 1999 with a dream to develop the Country Music format on radio in his home country. Four years later, he started programming what is now known as the Fairfax KIX Country Radio Network. Currently, the Network encompasses 30 repeater stations from their hub in Queensland into New South Wales and Victoria with a broadcast population nearing two million radio listeners.

Nashville, Tennessee…(March 10, 2011)…Earlier this week, “Family Man” singer Craig Campbell surprised Ohio parents Vince and Amy Spicocchi with a night they will never forget. Campbell first learned of the family after Vince posted a touching family video on YouTube set to the singer’s autobiographical hit single “Family Man.” The Massillon, Ohio fireman and registered nurse welcomed quintuplets in August 2010, however the babies were born prematurely and underwent heart surgery and had to fight to survive.
Campbell hired a limousine to pick up the couple from their home and bring them to The Tangier in Akron, Ohio for WQMX’s charity concert series. In addition to enjoying an acoustic set featuring Campbell and Steve Holy, Campbell met the parents backstage and presented the family with a personal check to help offset the family’s expenses. A father to daughters Preslee (3) and Kinni (7 mos), Campbell also gifted each child with identical onesies.
“It was beautiful,” shared Campbell after the evening wrapped. “All of us were crying by the end of the night, it was so special.”
Craig Campbell’s “Family Man” music video, featuring his own two daughters, can be seen at his website, The Spicocchi’s personalized “Family Man” video can be seen here:
ABOUT CRAIG CAMPBELL: After moving from his hometown of Lyons, Georgia to Nashville in 2002 to pursue his country music dreams, Craig Campbell quickly picked up work as a keyboardist in Luke Bryan and Tracy Byrd’s bands and was later discovered playing a regular gig at legendary Nashville honky-tonk, The Stage. Campbell’s debut single, “Family Man,” is climbing the country radio charts. The song can be found on his debut digital EP, Five Spot, available now at all digital music outlets. “Family Man” will also be included on his upcoming debut album, releasing April 5. Interview with Andrew Heller

Interview with Andrew Heller

CL: I am Christian Lamitschka and today I present you Andrew Heller.
Andrew welcome to the show.

AH: It’s a pleasure to be here with you.

CL: Andrew, we met each other times before and I know you have great new project trying to support all the artists which lost their houses and instruments during the big rain last year.

AH: It was last week of April, in fact, we had gotten a call to cancel our recording session because all the studios were closed. The floodwaters were rising and we got a call from Ricky Skaggs saying ‘don’t come up.’ That same afternoon he called us back saying can you fly up tomorrow as everyone of your musicians lost instruments that were stored down by the river. The Cartage Company was right on the river. Some lost everything or had damage under their houses.  They all need work; can you come right away. So we flew in that day, the morning after the Cumberland (River) crested, and we recorded the first song “Reach Out.” We gave that song to the city council to use to raise money for the musicians. The people on that song including Brent Mason, Dave Chapman, the three living The Jordanaires who sang with Elvis.  Ray Walker is 94, Louis Nunley is 82, and Gordon Stoker is 80. They sang background on that. We did that song as quickly as we could, finished it up and gave it to the city council to use on the advertisement they put out nationwide to raise money for the musicians.

CL: Who had this great idea for the CD Cover; folks, just have a look, isn’t it unbelievable? It looks so great! Who had the idea?

AH: It actually was my wife; my wife is a very religious woman. My songs are inspirational and inspirational country with some country ballads, but she said you’re singing a song to try to reach people’s hearts and trying to get them to help one another, and you need a picture of Christ reaching out.

CL: Which is your favorite song?

AH: That’s hard to say. Every song here has a story, “Reach Out” was written by Boomer Castleman, whose a Nashville native. “The Way The Wind Blows” is very special song, a love song written by a ninety-four-year-old man who won one of the first reality television show, a show called YOU WANT TO BE A COMPOSER in 1950.  Ray Swain is now 94 and still writing love songs. He wrote for Perry Como for many years. We recorded this song on his 94th Birthday. It’s a beautiful, beautiful love song. I love that song. Chris, there’s a large number of new songs in here. All of them are great. We did a song by Ervin Drake, “Local Call to Heaven” that had never been recorded. He had written it for Frank Sinatra

Chase Rice Serves Up a Buzzin’ EP for Mardi Gras

Chase Rice Serves Up a Buzzin’ EP for Mardi Gras
Chase Rice, the self-proclaimed “pilot of the party flight,” delivers his debut EP Country As Me just in time for Mardi Gras.  “I couldn’t find a better week to drop my debut than one devoted to a nationwide party,” says Chase. Chase’s debut EP became available on Tuesday, March 8th for download on iTunes and other major online distributors.
This North Carolina native premiered his first single Buzz Back on the final episode of the hit TV show “Survivor Nicaragua,” where he made it through to the final round losing the big pay off by a mere one vote. When it comes to this newcomer’s musical style and talent, the tribe has spoken and it’s all good things! Buzz Back is already getting air-time and receiving rave reviews among radio personalities. "Buzz Back is a refreshing tune, no pun intended,” said Kent Terry at SiriusXM11. “The first time I heard it, I could tell that Chase had really brought his music to the next level." He recently wrapped his debut video just before the Country Radio Seminar.  To view the video, visit his YouTube channel at
Chase has had a passion for country music ever since he saw Garth Brooks perform at just 10 years old. Inspired by his famous idol and his encouraging father, Chase began playing guitar in college and quickly began to excel at the instrument. It wasn’t until after his father’s death that he even thought about wanting to sing. From the lights of the football fields at the University of North Carolina Asheville to the rumble of NASCAR drivers speeding around the track, Chase proved to be a phene for intense career choices.  It wasn’t until he had an opportunity to step out of the pit crew of Hendricks Motorsports to grab the microphone center stage as a performer that Chase finally decided to pursue music full force. However, he put his dreams of becoming a singer on hold for a chance to compete on the CBS’ reality hit Survivor.  Now his persistent determination to succeed has him prepared to launch via his rowdy debut EP and single.  To stay updated on Chase, visit
